Can't Trust Them

by Ian McCoy on 09/22/2022

The worst car buying experience I have ever had. I really wanted one of the new Kia Plug in Hybrids and they were the only dealership in the area that had any so I was forced to deal with them. But if you are looking for a Kia in stock elsewhere I would goo elsewhere. In negotiations with the sales rep she kept telling me things like I can for sure get you another $500 off, or I can for sure get you a 3.49% interest rate. She would then go to the sales manager and come back with numbers that were higher than where we had even started. They would say things like "but if you put more money down, we can get you a lower monthly rate" as though they were doing me a favor by asking me to make a bigger down payment. They claim to have used car pricing, but they wouldn't honor other used car prices I found because they were more than 15 miles away, meaning they only honor used car pricing from the 1 or 2 other dealerships closer to them, which again is just not really what they are advertising. Since I really wanted the care we eventually agreed on a price for one that wasn't in stock yet but they said it would be in stock a week later. It ended up taking 2-3 weeks. The delay was an issue for me being able to commute to work so I called and ask if there was anything they could do. The sales rep told me she could get me a loaner vehicle. But then she again went to talk to the Sales Manager, and he said that wasn't possible. I then asked if I could uber to work and take the uber cost off of the sales price since the vehicle was delayed. This was only going to be about $30 a day and she said that she could make that happen, but again the sales manager said no. So in short on that point, don't believe anything the sales reps tell you, they have no actual power or influence on anything. To the sales rep's credit she did offer to pay for my ubers out of pocket because she saw how frustrated I was getting with the constant dance of being told one thing then another, but I didn't feel comfortable taking her up on that as it shouldn't of been up to her to do that. Lastly, the day I went to purchase the car was important. It was the last day that these vehicles qualified for a federal tax credit. I was very up front that the reason I was purchasing the car that day was because of that. On the day we agreed to a deal, they handed me a few signed papers and said, "congrats, this is your car now." Then when I went to pick up the car, all the contracts had the pickup day, not the day I put the $4,000 down paymnet down and signed the contract. This made it so I will lose out on a $5,000 tax creidt, again, a main reason I purcahsed the car on the original date. No longer eligible for thatr credit, I asked if they could just refund my down payment so I could look at other options now that the time sensetive nature of the credit was gone. They said that was impossible. We argue for a bit, but they eventually gave me an F U and said take the car or lose the deposit. After taking the car I called a freind that worked at another dealership and they told me what I suspected, they could of 100% refunded my down payment, they just didn't want to. In short, you just can't trust the people at this dealership. There were countless things I was told, only to find out it wasn't true. In my mind, if you can't trust someone, take your business elsewhere. There are enough other Kia Dealerships in the area that if the car you want is available elsewhere (a luxury I didn't have) I would highly reccomend going somewhere else.

This Dealership is Fraudulent and Has Been Sued in Court - please read..

by Dealership is Fraudulent on 08/05/2021

Do Not Do Business With This Dealership - They Are Fraudulent!!. My 18 year old son and I leased a 2021 Kia K5 on 10/9/20 from the Jack Daniels dealership in Fairlawn, New Jersey. This was a significant event for my son as he worked 3 years during high school to save enough money to lease this car. The lease for this vehicle included a $500 rebate for which we qualified because there was a 2020 Toyota Camry in our household at the time of the lease that was leased on 9/29/20 (10 days prior to the Kia lease). Evidence of this Toyota lease was provided to our sales rep (Wil Ihmaid) at the dealership at the point of sale. Instead of our sales person (Wil Ihmaid) deducting the $500 rebate at the time of sale, he said he would submit it on our behalf and it would take a few weeks. It was supposed to be deducted at the point of sale, but the dealership did not do it then, and it was never submitted on our behalf. I followed-up countless times in person, via email and phone, with Wil and the Manager, Reiner Basulto, and everyone refused to acknowledge that I was owed a rebate. On multiple times, I provided the Toyota registration, but they refused to accept it and also denied I provided it to them (even though I have emails as proof in addition to providing it in person at the point of sale. This was a “breach of contract”. I informed then I would sue them if they refused to give us the rebate for which we were entitled and they laughed. In addition, the dealership refused to provide me/son with the permanent license plates for this vehicle when they arrived at the dealership 6 weeks later. I called, emailed and went to the dealership to follow-up countless times. On November 23rd, I went to the dealership and they claimed they had the plates and refused to give them to me. I contacted the police at that moment and they arrived and was able to obtain my permanent license plates the dealership was intentionally holding and not giving to me/son. Earlier this year, my case was heard in small claims court. The Manager, Reiner Basulto, represented the dealership in the case and continuously lied under oath during the case. As a result, I received the money for the rebate. When I went to the dealership to pick up the check, according to the terms of the court decision, Reiner again played games and refused to give me the check. Again, I had to call the police to come on site for support. I have supporting documentation and evidence to support all claims stated above. They are all real. Do Not Do Business with this dealership; they are fraudulent. I am not the first customer that had this experience. I have dealt with other KIA dealers in NJ and they are great! Nutley and Clifton. Please do not make the same mistake I did.

Sales Appointment

by RescueLife on 10/08/2018

We made an appointment in advance. Was told to come in. We got to the dealership, they were very nice. However, after a short waiting period we were told the truck was sold. In this day and age not knowing it was sold is not exceptable and a huge waste of time.Learn how to delete unavailable cars so people do not waste their time.Very disappointing we were ready to purchase. The staff was very nice before during and after no complaint. Just who ever is in charge of the internet posting should be replaced.

don't waste your time at this dealer

by flesp123 on 09/16/2018

I test drove a use Mercedes at the Jack Daniels Kia dealer in Fairlawn a few days ago; I made an offer which they accepted. They were asking $34,000, they agreed to sale the vehicle for $31,500. When I went to pick up the vehicle the sales or finance manager seems to have no knowledge about the agreed price. Instead he added two additional charges on top of the original sale price. With the addition of these two charges the price went up to $37,000. When I asked about these charges he explained to me that one charge was for prepping the car the other charge was related to the financing of the vehicle. I was stunned by the behavior of this individual who was presented as manager of a business, responsible for making the decision that affects the revenue. The dude was a total [non-permissible content removed]. I cannot believe that the owner of this business entrust this individual to make decision that impacts revenue. He killed a deal by tacking on two bogus charges. The agreement on the sale price was provided to me in writing by the sales man in an email. I wanted to ask him about the agreement, but I realized he himself was also surprised with the additional charges. I walked out of the showroom thinking there's no way these people can stay in business for much longer with these individuals running the operations.

Untrustworthy! ZERO STARS!

by atripodi14 on 05/14/2018

ZERO STARS!!! BEWARE! HORRIBLE DEALERSHIP SHORT VERSION: They falsely advertise vehicles as being certified preowned. They gave me paperwork telling me it is preowned just to find out from corporate it is actually not and they lied to me. I paid for this vehicle in full in January, it is over 4 months and they refuse to put the paperwork in to put the title in my name, or rather every time they call they say they will do it and yet it never gets done. Instead they registered the title under their name even though we have the paperwork stating otherwise. FULL STORY: I was interested in buying a CPO Kia. I chose this dealership because it had the vehicle I wanted for the cheapest price, little did I know that saving some money would lead to 5 months of headaches and still continuing.... To begin. I was set a 2015 Kia Optima and as I was ready to say I want to buy it, they decide to notify me of a $2000 prep fee??? Which could not be waived on this vehicle but of course could be waived for the a 2014 Kia Optima that they were insisting I purchase instead. What is this prep fee? Apparently to clean and prep the car before giving it to us....that's right? a $2000 car wash essentially. I stormed out and called later that night to speak with a manager to complain of this indecency. He was "nice" enough to waive this fee for me on the 2015 and went to go pick it up the next day. (I am a student and was recently hit in an accident and unfortunately needed a car on short notice or else I wouldn't have even gone back). Of course, the second day didn't go any better. After spending hours on paperwork with the sales rep. I met with the financial manager who offers me warranty on the vehicle which I decline because this was a CPO and was supposed to have the 100,000 mile 10 year power train warranty. This was clearly advertised online as a "KIA CERTIFIED PREOWNED VEHICLE" which was evidently not the case. The sales rep even told us it went through a 165 point inspection which I found out later was also a lie. They tried to charge me $1500 for it to officially be a certified vehicle, which of course, they were "nice" enough to waive. I didn't trust this dealership and decided to call corporate Kia about the status of my vehicle. I then found out that my vehicle was not certified even though they gave me paperwork stating so. This was of course another headache and I needed to bring my vehicle in to be inspected to officially be a certified preowned, all after I purchased the vehicle and have been driving it for over a week. I thought all the problems were finally over and 4 months have past and I still don't have the title to the vehicle that I purchased in full. I have been reaching out to them every few weeks since the purchase, their response was, wait another few weeks, motor vehicle takes time. After going to motor vehicles, they have no record of this. Then finally they admit that it wasn't done and they are doing it now., sometime in April. Of course it never comes, keep calling and calling, and they finally admit, they did the paperwork in their name and registered the vehicle to them and now have to do a new registration. This dealership is filled with dishonest, untrustworthy people that are not worth your time or money. PLEASE save yourself the headache and go elsewhere!

Lemon

They sold me what is legally called a lemon. By the looks of other reviews, I was not the only one. Figures. If I knew then what I know now. Sneaky? Absolutely. Typical unscrupulous used car dealer. I need to warn buyers to stay away!

Agreed to a deal over email and then didn't honor

by RMantilla on 12/31/2017

I have been communicating with the Jack Daniels Kia dealership through email for the past few days. Through email, we agreed upon a price (21,990) and an interest rate for financing (0%). I had given the sales associate my credit score and the amount I was going to put as a down payment and I was told that this would be enough to confirm these terms. The sales associate I communicated with confirmed these terms with me multiple times over email and then over the phone. I even called the sales associate this morning before I went there to make sure there were no hidden fees besides normal title, documentation, sales tax and registration fees. I was assured there were no hidden fees and that the deal we had agreed upon was still valid. When I went in to the dealership today, I was met by a salesman named Will. After showing me the car I was meant to buy, he informed me that he forgot there was an extra $400 fee because the car was the color black. I was disappointed, but I told him that it was fine as long as the rest of the deal stayed the same. After this, I was kept waiting as he talked to his manager and "got the contract ready". I signed forms to approve credit checks and so forth. After more than 2 hours of waiting, he asked me for my insurance card and called my insurance provider. He asked me to talk to them to transfer my insurance policy over to the new car. Thinking that this meant the deal was almost done, I happily agreed and talked to my insurance agent to change my insurance policy to add the new car. After this was over, he gave me a new contract to sign and tried to rush me to sign it but after I read it carefully, I found there were two new fees on there (one for window etching and another fee that I can't recollect at this time) and after asking him about these, he rudely said that I could just cross these out if I didn't want to pay them. After I crossed them out and signed it, he took the contract and disappeared for another 15 minutes. When he came back, he gave me the car keys and sent me to the finance office. There, I was told that my credit score, which was exactly the same score I had told them over email, mandated that I pay 5.9% interest. I was very upset and I told them that this was not the deal we had agreed upon. He asked me to stay so he could talk to his manager. After disappearing again for 15 minutes, the finance associate returned and said that I only had to pay 1.9% interest. I again reiterated that this was not the deal we had agreed upon through email and that I was going to leave. He asked me again to stay so he could talk to his manager. I waited for another 10 minutes only for him to come back and try to sell me on leasing the car instead of buying it. I gave him back the keys and left. I waited over 3 hours at the Jack Daniels Kia Dealership over a deal that was already agreed upon through email and not honored. The salesman Will was rude and kept me waiting for a very long time, I'm guessing, to break my stamina so I would agree to whatever deal was in front of me. I now have to call my insurance company to put my insurance back to how it was because of this. This is not the way to treat potential customers and I'm filing this complaint because I hope that this kind of treatment gets addressed.Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Broken promises

by Unlucky on 11/17/2017

I purchased a used vehicle at this location. After long negotiating and signing of paperwork it was past closing hours. They told me that I was going to have to return another day to have the truck fully detailed. I suggested that I could leave it there and pick up the next day. They refused and said to come back with it when my plates were in. The next day I decided to take a look at the air filter's condition. Needless to say it was in very bad condition. I looked over the paperwork that was given to me and it said that the cabin filter was changed but mentioned nothing about the air filter. Why would the dealership worry about the cabin filter but not the air filter is beyond me. So out of curiosity I checked the cabin filter and it was just as bad and so was the oil, it was dark and hadn't been changed in a very long time. About 3 weeks later, I called to see if my plates were in, they were but I was never notified. So I returned with the truck and spoke to someone and mentioned that I hadn't received any notification that my plates were in, They looked at me like I had 3 heads. I then mentioned that the cabin filter was old and the oil in the truck was old and that it was never changed. They told me that it was changed and that whose to say that I put an old filter in place of the new one and to remember that I already had the truck in my possession for 3 weeks hence it would reflect the oil darkening. I was basically accused of switching an air filter.... And that the oil was bad because of 3 weeks of use?? I then asked if they would detail my tuck as promised and they said they would. I waited 3 HOURS and asked if my truck was ready, they told me that they were almost done and to give them another 20 minutes. After finally getting it, only an exterior wash was done!!! I then spoke to Eddie Carbajal and asked him why it wasn't fully detailed as promised, his response was we are too busy right now.He then told me to return another day... This is the worst dealership ever!!! They lie, and are incompetent to communicate and deliver on their promises. Once you sign away, they don't care about you. People, please read their reviews. They are bad. Do not read the ones on their website. Those are handpicked. Use the internet and different websites.

Horrible customer service

by Rayna14 on 03/28/2017

I went in to lease a Kia Optima. Went through the whole process 3 weeks later the salesman asks me for missing financial information demanding I come in today or my car is taken away. Instead of asking nicely for me to come in when I am available to come in they expect me to drop everything and come by after I have already been driving my car for weeks. Then met with the GM who gave me a free month included for all the trouble with the salesman. Months later still waiting for my refund saying they aren't sending one now when I have it in writing they would reimburse me. I would not recommend this dealer to my worst enemy. No one cares to follow up [non-permissible content removed] and they all go against their word. Very annoyed at the delayed response and disrespectful service I received.

Jack Daniels KIA Rocks!

by Riveragaram on 06/12/2015

I just bought my third car from Jack Daniels Kia in Fair Lawn New Jersey, A KIA Sportage. The experience was great! Beginning with Mr. Will who was knowledgeable about the truck that I wanted; sometimes many dealers try to sell you what they want; Mr. Will listen to me; and sold me the truck with all the features and options that I wanted it. The financing process with Mr. Garret was phenomenal, he answered all my texts, my emails. And if he did not know the answer he contacted the Pre-owned Manager Mr. V. Ramdass and they worked together to make sure that my questions were answered. They made sure that my car was delivered in safe conditions. I am a very satisfied with the services and hope to keep continue doing Business with them. Thank you very much for listening to me and selling me a reliable truck.

I just traded in my kia forte and leased a new one from Jack Daniels Kia on end of October. My sales specialist was Ash Shatnawi and General Manager Wesley Mancias. They were friendly and knowledgeable about cars. They took long time to helping me with lease a car and also answer my questions. I am really happy with my new car now. If you are looking for a car. I definitely recommend Jack Daniels Kia.

Kia rocked my world

by pam021 on 10/28/2014

I went to Kia, not planning on making any decisions about my new lease because I still had a month left. But my plans changed when I was introduced to a sporty black and white 2015 Kia Forte, which I immediately fell in love with. Everyone at this dealership was friendly, knowledgable and competent. I left that same day with my new car and was floating on cloud 9. Thanks, Jack Daniels Motors!

Satisfied Repeat Customer

by KC_NJ on 10/18/2014

In 2012, we bought a Kia Sorrento at Jack Daniels Kia. Marco was our salesman (now in finance) and worked with us to get us to a price we could afford for the vehicle we wanted. He made it painless for us. So now in 2014, we returned to Jack Daniels for an Optima. This time Jim Malloy was our salesperson. Jim was very nice and very informative as I sat in & compared multiple car models before settling on the Optima, and then walked us through the physical inventory a few times on the lot again as I tried to pick a color. From initial contact with Garret, then sales with Jim and finally finance with Shonta, we had an easy and stress free experience at Jack Daniels Kia. I would recommend going there to purchase a vehicle.

I received a phone call about early trade in and went to Jack Daniels to check out my options. Chris D. my sales associate was great. Everything was straight forward and the way it was supposed to go. I traded in my current Kia Optima 7 months early with no penalties. I ended up upgrading to a fully equipped SX for a very fair price. Everything was straight forward. Wonderful experience overall. I definitely recommend Chris D. if you are looking for a Kia. He was patient while I was deciding on a new vehicle and did not pressure me in any way.
