Best Buying Experience Ever!

by Acmeagle on 02/05/2024

Hands down the best car buying experience I’ve ever had! Tom Calkins is a dream to work with…he went above and beyond to help me find the right car, and is just the utter definition of professionalism and elevated customer service. Mat in finance made the business side of things a breeze, and gave excellent advice and honest recommendations. I cannot recommend West Co. Volvo enough!

New XC40

by Ellen W on 11/19/2023

I am enjoying my new XC40 - I had a very positive car buying experience with Todd as my salesperson at Volvo Cars West County. There was no pressure, just a desire to make sure that all my questions were answered and my concerns thoroughly addressed. I appreciated that I was treated like I was a very important customer. I highly recommend Todd and Volvo Cars West County!

Another great experience!

by Happy Volvo Owner on 05/28/2023

Have been doing business with this dealership since at least the end of the 90's. Overall, it has been a pleasant experience. My vehicle was overdue for a checkup when I called to schedule an appointment. I don't put very many miles on my 2018 CX60. There were only approximately 30,000 miles on the speedometer, and the car had already undergone a 30,000 mile check-up on its previous check-up. The service department recommended that I just get an oil change. Because I have a hard time trying to find time to get my car to the dealership, I was told that if I could get there by 7:30 am on the appointed day, they would squeeze me in, which they did. I had a pleasant wait in their roomy waiting room, enjoying complimentary hot chocolate and breakfast bars. A serviceman came out and informed me that the brake pads were very worn. They were able to change them right then so that I didn't have to schedule another appointment. They also let me know that I would probably need new tires by the time of the next check-up. They washed my car and I was on my way about 2 hours after my arrival! Everyone was very pleasant and helpful beginning with the individuals who handled the check-in to the woman who handled payments, and the young man who brought my car back to the front of the building.

No pressure and efficient sales process

by Mike_W on 09/17/2017

Jim Portner greeted us when we entered the showroom and promptly showed us the car we were interested in. He even accompanied us on the test drive which was a big help because we were not familiar with the local roads. When we were ready to make an offer, he gave us good guidance about the process and worked efficiently to get our offer accepted. He also answered all of our questions regarding financing, extended warranty and registration. And while we completed the sales documents, he directed the service team to prepare the car for delivery. So that when we finished our the transaction, the car was ready to drive away. The entire process took less than two hours from the time we met Jim until the time we drove away. The level of customer care was outstanding.

Worth the trip.

by gcgjohnson on 03/25/2017

Traveled hundreds of miles at considerable expense to do business. Professionalism, courtesy, a fair deal, ample inventory and no nonsense is what I found. It was well worth the travel expense and time.

very happy used car customer...

by UsedCarBuyer on 01/06/2017

Normally, I just hate going to a dealer to buy a car. However, having just purchased a used 2016 Toyota Sienna from West County Volvo this week, I'm very happy to report that I was truly pleased with the company’s attitude and service throughout the entire process! Sales manager Stephen Lynch was honest with me, when my vehicle of interest was out “at the lake” for the weekend, and not immediately available for a test drive. When it became available a few days later, he was very prompt and courteous in notifying me… all things that I truly appreciated. When the time came to hand me off to a sales person, he paired me up with Jim Portner, who was excellent. Jim seemed to immediately understand the sort of no-nonsense shopper which I tend to be. He impressed me by being forthright and honest regarding the used Sienna, my own trade-in vehicle, and every other aspect of the car buying process. In short, Jim was terrific! I recognize that at this point I've only had the "new" van for a few days... but the people at West County Volvo made this one of the most pleasant car buying experiences that I've ever had, and I'm happy to recommend them! --CSC

AVOID AT ALL COST!

by fmcpherson on 11/11/2016

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. Purchased a car from, Dan Suntrup at Suntrup West County Volvo. Before purchasing the vehicle, I asked if the car had been inspected by a mechanic. I was told by Dan that it had and everything was in working order. Before I had driven the car 100 miles, the check engine and VSC lights came on. I took it to my mechanic who told me that the catalytic converter may be bad, a wheel speed sensor was defective and one of the three tires was so worn that it could have caused damage to the transfer case since the three other tires being new were not rotating at the same speed as the worn tire. My mechanic even stated that no reputable mechanic would have let an all wheel drive vehicle out of his garage with mismatched tires like those. When I contacted Dan and Sam Bruen (Pre-owned Manager) they, of course, denied there were any issues with the vehicle and it was pure coincidence that all of this occurred within 100 miles after the sale. They also told me that they would do nothing to help. Basically, Dan told me that it was too bad I got stuck with a defective vehicle and a $1,265 repair bill, but it wasn't their fault. I thought the day of the prototypical used car salesman and dealership were over. I guess I was wrong. They got me, don't let them get you! Be very careful if you think you are getting a solid car from Suntrup. You probably aren't! There are too many reputable dealership in St. Louis to have to put up with this type of dishonest service. Go elsewhere.

Fantastic service

by Jdpbug3 on 10/15/2016

My experience with this dealership was like no other. I was not pressured or pushed by a dealer trying to make a sale. I was treated with respect and professionalism. I was given a huge amount of helpful information. My dealer was Tim Edwards. He was an absolute pleasure to work with. He went above and beyond to make the experience of purchasing a car a smooth and pleasant one. I look forward to future endeavors with this dealership!

poor service

by mizzougrads on 07/09/2016

The service dept is not representative of a luxury auto brand such as Volvo. I had a 730am appt for oil change, tire rotation and state inspection. At 1230pm when I hadn't heard from service dept, I called. I was told by Bob that they hadn't even started on my car and they had no estimate of when it would be completed. I was told that it didn't matter that I had a 0730 appt because so did everyone else and they couldn't "bump" anyone. I asked that they cancel my service and I would pick my car up. Upon pick up, the service mngr showed my husband a long list of other open tickets that also hadn't been started. He even showed him an open ticket from Wed (this was Fri), that wasn't finished as if to validate this problem. Never have I run into problems such as this at any other dealership, let alone one where cars run 40k plus in price. They definitely do not cater to the customer. Very disappointing.

(Almost) no-hassle car purchase

by jcsarino on 01/28/2016

We had visited Suntrup West County Volvo to look at a Honda Pilot that was on the lot. However, when we got there the SUV was sold earlier that morning. We then spoke to Tom Calkins, who offered to have us test drive two SUV's in our price (and reasonable mileage) range, the Acura MDX, and the Mazda CX-9. We really liked the MDX, and without any pressure, we did end up picking it up...the price was just too hard to pass up. Tom on the sales side, and Mat on the financing side were more than accommodating, even with our bored daughter tagging along. :-) I would recommend coming here to check out their selection of pre-owned, as well as new cars!

Stay Far Away!

by ericam1 on 05/08/2015

My husband and I were in the market for a Honda Pilot. West County Volvo had one that we were interested in. Before even looking at the vehicle we met with Tom in Sales and explained our situation in detail (credit challenges). We even provided him our credit scores, the fact that we were trying to stay around $1,000 down to start out and asked if it was possible to make the deal work or if we were just wasting our time. We were assured that he would be able to make it work. We looked at the vehicle, test drove it, filled out the application and gave them a deposit. It was closing time so they were allegedly unable to run our credit that day (my credit report states otherwise). We left with the promise that Tom would run everything first thing in the morning and give us a call. The next day (Friday), after numerous follow up calls to Tom, he said that he was not able to make the deal work. We then went and found our own financing that night. Saturday morning we called Tom and let him know that we had secured our own financing and that we would be providing a down payment of $2400 between cash and trade in. We emailed him the loan documents (he confirmed he received them) and asked that he have everything ready for me to come pick the car up on Monday evening. Monday at 4:50 pm I received a call from Tom asking about the loan that we had secured. It was obvious that he hadn't bothered to do anything with it until then. I was on my way to the dealership so he stated that he was going to call the loan company. When I arrived at the dealership, again it was obvious he had done nothing. After making me sit and wait he ran around helping other customers and finally got the loan company on the phone. He went back to someone's office to speak with them. When he came back, he stated that they were not able to give me the vehicle until they sent the paperwork to the loan company and they sent a check back. I mentioned that when we bought my husband's car at Bommarito we had the same type of draft check with Capital One and did not have any issues using it. He stated that Capital One is a larger, reputable lender but that I was using one they hadn't dealt with often. He promised they would overnight everything the following day (again, being too late in the day to be able to complete it that day) and that as soon as the check was received and cashed they would release the Pilot to me. The following afternoon (Tuesday), I called to make sure the documents were being over-nighted. Tom was out of the office of course. I spoke with Ken instead. He promised to check and call me back. When he called back an hour later he stated they were not going to accept the loan. I asked for an explanation and he stated that because the loan company charged the dealer a fee and required them to do paperwork with them and become a (gasp) provider for them, they didn't want to do that. He stated the lender was predatory and they didn't want to do business with them and did not want the business they would bring. In other words, they don't want low class people in their dealership. Ken offered to work some numbers since we were able to put more down and said that he would call us back. Of course, he did not. We continued on our search and on Wednesday were able to secure a loan with Capital One. My husband called and spoke with Tom and let him know we had financing through Capital One. He provided the loan amount, the down payment amount and the interest rate (9.4% on a 48 month loan). Tom told him that was great and to come in the next day (Thursday). After arriving at the dealership, again got the run around and they stated they wouldn't accept the Capital One loan either because they also charged fees and were also a "predatory" lender. They told my husband that they had a friend that worked at a bank and ran my husband's credit AGAIN and came up with a "great offer" with 22.95% interest on a 54 month term. When asked why anybody in their right mind would take that deal when they had a much better offer in their hands, he was told that they wouldn't be told who they had to use for financing. Funny how days ago they were unable to finance the deal and then suddenly their "friend" comes up with a "great offer". Wonder how much the friend's bank and they were making on the back end of that deal!! Needless to say, we did not buy a car from them. Run, do not walk away from this dealership!

Another Great Experience

by wheelergj2003 on 05/12/2014

This is the second time we have purchased a vehicle from West County Volvo and both experiences have been excellent. We went to another dealership and had a really bad experience, so we immediately called Ken L. and told him we were headed over and what we were looking for in a vehicle. Ken has sold us are last two vehicles and when we purchase another, we are definitely calling Ken to help us with the process
