Very Disappointing Experience

by dontgohere1 on 12/12/2012

We were shopping for a new car. We stopped by this dealership on a Monday night and test drove a car. Over the next couple of days I called the salesman to ask a couple of questions based on offers from other dealers (unlike the other dealerships this one does not put the options on the vehicle and other information on their website instead just saying "Call Us,") in particular whether they were willing to match the another dealer's offer on an identical vehicle (also unlike other dealerships this one added a "Market Adjustment" fee to the MSRP. On Friday evening I called to see if the car was still available. Since it was I told the salesperson we'd be in to make a deal Saturday morning and asked when he would be there. He stated that the dealership was open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. because Saturday was a big day for him. Saturday morning I called to ask what documentation we needed for our trade-in. I was told that the sales man was in, but not available. However, the person on the phone gave me the information I needed. When we arrived the salesman was not on the lot. Apparently several employees were unaware of this as they paged him a few times. Eventually I was given two different stories regarding his absence. I asked a managerial person if we could buy the car with another salesman. At first he called the salesman's cell phone and apparently got no answer, but then told me a story about his absence. He then asked another salesman to help us. By this time we had wasted an hour at the dealership. The new salesman was clearly irritated at having to help us and even more irritated when we told him we did not have the stock number of the car. He made a number of snarky remarks to my wife's questions and then went outside to look for the car. After awhile he came back in and told us the car had been sold. This in itself was not upsetting as we had not put a deposit on the car. We asked if there was as similar car on the lot and he told us to go look for ourselves and that there was another lot down the street we could also try but gave no directions to get to it. He then said our salesman would be back in an hour and a half,we should find something to do until he got there, and walked away. Needless to say we did not wait. We went to another dealership (Homer Skelton in Olive Branch were the service was great) and bought a car. We never heard from anyone from this dealership as follow up - no phone call or email from the salesman explaining why he left without even telling his sales manager we were coming in and why, no apology, nothing.

Fairly friendly dealer but auto prices are higher than others

I went to this dealer with the full intention of buying either a sedan or small SUV. They allowed me to test drive the sonata. They didn't seem interested in showing or talking with me about any other vehicles such as the Santa Fe that I was also interested in. The price they came back with on the sonata was aound 900+ dollars above the MSRP sticker price(which included the destination and handling costs) which seem a bit high to me. They were not interested in negotiating any on the price. Even though I feel that hyundai are good vehicles, I was not interested in payiing more for a korean vehicle than I could get a similar japan vehicle. I ended up buying a similar size SUV ( to the Santa Fe) from elsewhere for a few thousand less. When the price of the hyundai vehicle moved up higher than a similar vehicle from one of the japan manufactures, I really saw no reason to go with the hyundai.
