Toyota Buyer for many years

by Toyota Crown Buyer on 03/20/2024

I have owned Toyota's for at least 25 years. I have purchase 3 corollas for my niece and nephews and a Camry for a sister in-law. My wife has owned Toyota's I have owned several Toyota's. The vehicle I traded in was a 2016 Avalon with 130K. I was a bit disappointed in my visit when purchasing my new Toyota Crown. The salesman and I clashed. Not over price or trade-in but we just had difficulty communicating. I had picked out the car I wanted (Toyota Crown) the day before. I came home all excited because I was going back to the dealer the next day to get my new car. I had gone to the bank that morning and had a cashiers check made out in full to MATICK Toyota for the purchase price of the vehicle. I cleaned my Avalon out at home and had the its title in hand. My appointment was for 11 AM at the dealer to meet with the salesman. After I got to the dealer I wanted to test drive the car before purchase. That is where the crap started. I couldn't drive the car because I couldn't find my personal car insurance or registration. I had taken them out of the car along with all my belongings because I was trading the Avalon in that day. The dealership had a policy that No other dealer I have ever worked with had. They wanted my Avalon insurance to cover the test drive of the car !!! I was pissed off to say the least. There I was with my 2016 Avalon Title and a check for the full remaining price of the new CROWN ($37,000.00) and I couldn't even test drive it. The sales guy was kind of an A** as he said that it wasn't his fault, I didn't have my paperwork together. Anyway, I left the dealer and headed 15 miles home to get the paperwork (Insurance) I had removed from the Avalon. After sitting at home for a few minutes I emailed the sales guy and said. "My new car experience just went to CH!T, I am no longer excited, I no longer wanted the car". After all, buying a new car should be a pleasant experience with some excitement. The sales guy apologized and told me he was under dealer policy and he was sorry about the way things started off. After about an hour of thinking it over I drove back up to the dealer with my Avalon insurance in my hand and was able to test drive the car, make the purchase and head home. I believe that Josh and I got off on the wrong foot and we had a personality clash. He may have had a bad morning also. People are humans and we all have bad days, right. However, I think that after the test drive and purchase I would go back and most likely buy a Tundra from Josh. I realize some people just do not see eye to eye and may have some friction before they settle in with a mutual understanding. After the sale Josh took the time to go over every feature of the vehicle and we got along great. The part that still boggles me is, when a customer comes in with cash in hand and already committed to a purchase, they should be treated a bit better. Even some exceptions made when they want to simply take a test drive of the vehicle they are purchasing. I have paid cash for my cars for the last 25 years. I don't finance or use other people's money. I am very fortunate as I am not dependent on a bank or credit union. There are a lot of Toyota dealers in the tri-county area. My wife's Outback is 4 years old and I want to get her a new Toyota Rav4. My Tundra truck has 140K and I want to purchase a new truck. I want MATICK Toyota to be my dealer in the future? At this point I probably would not recommend them to family or friends. However, that may change depending how the next visit for a new vehicle goes. I would like to add that Matick has done all my service work over the last 7 years. I have never had an issue when it came to servicing my Tundra or Avalon.

Great Place

by Toyota4Life on 09/28/2018

Had a great experience getting our new Toyota here. Everyone was friendly and the entire process from start to finish was fast (which has been on my greatest frustrations during previous car purchases). I love my new Highlander, it was exactly the car I had researched and wanted for months only finally deciding to pull the trigger after taking to Molly over email. Will definitely be back and tell others.

Friendly Staff, Great Price

by RogerReview on 09/19/2018

After visiting a few Toyota dealers in Detroit I found Matick Toyota and wanted to give them a shot to beat the price I got from another dealer. Was presently surprised that they not only beat the other dealers price but the environment and people that worked there were so much better. It was like people were happy and enjoying working as opposed to other dealers I went to. It was a quick deal and I'll be back for my next Toyota when I'm ready.

Purchase of 2015 Dodge Dart

by RonJankowski on 05/29/2018

From my very first phone call, to the final purchase process, this dealership and it's staff are 5 star rated. Thankyou to Matthew, my sales associate, and Lisa the finance manager. This truly was the most enjoyable sales purchase I've ever made buying a used vehicle.

Really Friendly Staff and Dealership

by StClairLove on 03/30/2017

We had a great experience getting our new RAV4 from Matick Toyota. The dealership staff there were friendly from the person who greeted us to when we signed paperwork to when we took our new car home. It was easy and we never felt pressured. They respected our time and the price they gave us in an email was exactly what it was when we got there.

Awesome service

by 12100717 on 08/09/2016

This dealer has an awesome service department. My service guy was Brian. I have had him a few times now since I leased my camry. He is always polite and professional and keeps my vehicle on track. He took care of my oil change and tire rotation recently. He got my car in right away and I was out in no time. He thanked me for my business as well. I thought this was nice because he acknowledged me as a customer and not just a number. Kindness is everything and Brian is the best guy in there. Anything you need for service I would go see Brian and for sales go see Braden he took care of me also finding me a fair deal.

Terrible service practices

by jpavlik on 11/30/2012

Please do not let yourself of your loved one go to this dealership for service because they will rip you off in cold blood without blinking an eye. My ill-advised grandmother that only trusts dealerships to maintain her '99 Camry took her car in to diagnose a brake hissing noise. The dealership looked it over and told her she needed to replace the power brake booster with a new part to the tune of $960 for just that part, plus $200 in labor to install it. On a car that is worth $5000. Yes, the actual list price for this part is actually $960 for whatever asinine reasons and they act like this is completely normal for an old lady to pay. Of course my grandmother not knowing any better agreed pay the dealer to order the part and bring her car back in after the part arrives. Then she tells me afterward how much it was going to cost and then I feel sick for her. After researching the issue on the internet, the hissing can be related to the brake booster, however the common failure modes are typically a vacuum line leak or a gasket failure between the brake booster and master cylinder. When I talked to the service department, they do not even consider trying to fix the problem with the $2 gasket and will only try to fix the problem with the $1000 part. They told me they saw the booster leaking, but wouldn't tell me where from. If it is leaking at the attachment point to master cylinder, then I would logically believe that the gasket has failed. Yes the brake booster can still be at issue and need to be replaced, however boosters are typically much more robust parts than the gasket or vacuum connections and so it is less likely the part that needs to be replaced. In either case, my issue with this dealer is that they don't even consider the cheaper fixes first or offer to replace the part with a professionally remanufactured part that can be bought for as cheap as $150. In fact, the parts department acted like remanufactured parts don't even exist unless some private party had a hobby to rebuild a brake booster by hand and sell them on craigslist. Yeah, I'm sure the part I can go to O'Reilly Auto Parts and buy off their shelf right now is rebuilt by some Joe Schmo in his garage. After all of this, I made my grandmother go back to the dealer the next morning and cancel the order on the expensive brake booster part. No surprise, they "have" to charge her a 20% restocking fee for the part she hasn't even gotten to see yet.... yeah that's $200 they had charged her with the holidays coming up to have to put a part back on the shelf... Congratulations [non-permissible content removed] dealership, you got your $200 from her that you were going to make anyway from the ridiculously priced new brake booster. I hope this teaches my grandmother that not even dealerships can be trusted, or at least call me before agreeing to swipe her card for such expensive parts. We are going to find her a nice little shop that will happily work on her car and treat her like a normal person that won't have to pay outlandish prices to keep her vehicle on the road. So please do not let your loved ones get their cars fixed from McInerney Toyota on Gratiot in Clinton Township.

What service?

by rji1 on 07/21/2012

Rude service department. Bad communication and unwilling to take responsibility. Changed their story a number of times. This was a warranty issue on a inexpensive item that they broke while it was still under warranty. For this small item they have lost a customer, plus any people I would have sent their way as well as some valuable word of mouth advertising.

would not keep their end of the deal!!

by tina1304 on 04/30/2010

The initial dealing with this dealership was fine. Everything you would expect from a used car dealership (little pushy, make you "feel" like you got a great deal). We purchased two cars, same day, cash transaction. Tom, our salesman, told us that when we picked them up the next day he would have them cleaned out and filled up with gas. When we picked them up they were cleaned out but both were on a half a tank. After we mentioned this to him, he said to come back tomorrow. To make a long story short, when my husband went to get the gas, he was told that he could only give him $20 because we got such a good deal. When my husband told him that he was not satisfied(with some explicit language) Tom loosened his tie and came at him. He told my husband if he did not get off the property in 30 seconds, he was going to beat his [violative content deleted]. My husband proceeded to count out loud. Tom went back into the building so my husband followed him. Even after talking to the owner of the dealership, they refused to keep their end of the agreement. I feel that for the class A dealership that they claim to be, this was a class D, petty, tactless way to treat customers. When you say your going to do something, do it. No matter how "good" of a deal he think he gave us, we still purchased two cars in less than 2 hours(test drives included), which is money in his pocket, and a pretty good day for a used car salesman. I would not recommend this dealership simply for the reason that they wouldn't honor their word on a handshake.
