Amazing Jessica

by Stretch on 04/04/2023

I went to replace the glass in my sunroof. Turned out the part they had was incorrect but Jessica had the right one on order. It was done by the end of the day as promised.

Great customer service.

by lindsay78 on 03/06/2019

Dwayne West was an excellent salesman. He treated us with great respect. Wasn’t pushy, & answered all of our questions. He worked quickly with us & we left with our new 2019 Forester sport the same day. I love it! We highly recommend Williams Subaru, & don’t forget to ask for Dwayne West!

Buying a car: an experience

by Alex on 02/10/2019

I like to keep my reviews simple. Everything was done amazingly well. The salesman "Dwayne" kept in contact throughout the process, letting me know if any changes occurred. Their finance manager "Jason" helped by pointing out some cases of fraud on my credit report; it was good to hear it now than later down the road. I also met with their Subaru Star Delivery Assistant "Mishelle" to go over the ins and outs of my new Outback, as well as their Service Advisor "John". Everyone made the purchase an experience, compared to a simple transaction.

False Assurance by Your Service Reps

by whatdisplay on 08/17/2018

I brought my wife's 2012 Forester in for routine service June 28, 2018. When it was done, the rep reported that everything had been checked, the tread was getting toward replacement - needed levels on some tires, and everything else was checked and OK. This was similar to all my other visits to Williams for service, which is where we've had all the routine service done on this car. The service rep did NOT warn me that they had not checked the spare tire because it was too tedious to get to it. Since I had never had to get this spare out, I ldidn't realize that you have to unbolt it and turn it over to access the tire valve and check the pressure. Last Tuesday, my wife called me and said she had a flat tire, and was parked off the road a few miles away. I said I could come there fairly quickly, and thought I could change the tire in a reasonable time. When I got there I got the jack out, and then went for the tire. But as soon as I saw the tire , I knew it hadn't been checked. It was stowed withe the valve down, and the top side had pieces of straw all over it , which had sifted down from above. But it had been months since she had hauled straw, and it had been vacuumed out of the rest of the car. Imagine my dismay when a tire gauge showed 31 pounds in the spare instead of the required 60! It was absolutely unsafe to use at that pressure. Fortunately, we were able to obtain service and get the tire pumped up, but if this had happened at night and a worse location, we would have had a very difficult situation. If I had been warned that the dealer never checks the spare, I would have. But instead, I was told everything was OK, when it wasn't true. Daniel Friderici

Awful

by This-place-sucks on 07/10/2018

Was very interested in getting a Outback but asked if we could negotiate on the price. The sales guy told us it had not been inspected so there was no way they could negotiate at all; even tho the vehicle was on the sale lot with a price tag on it and fully cleaned. They even tried to get us to do a lease to own, when we were already pre approved for a set amount of money. The people here are only out to make as much money off of you as they can and are not courteous at all; very smug. We ended up going to the yark Subaru dealership in Toledo and had a pleasant experience. The people there were very friendly and helpful. I asked them if Subaru allows their vehicles to go on the lot with a price tag for sale before their inspection and they said no clearly the Subaru dealership in Lansing were just lying. It took the Lansing Subaru 4 days to get back to us about the alleged inspection, and by that point we already bought one through yark Subaru. We got a amazing deal with bumper to bumper coverage through yark Subaru. If you want to get screwed go to the one in Lansing! The real dealership is the yark dealership in Toledo they are the best hands down; and super nice

Experience when redeeming a coupon

by Sanket on 07/22/2017

I went to this dealership today to redeem a Subaru offer. Offer was to test drive a car and get $25. I am not looking to buy right now but was looking forward to drive a Subaru so I will have an experience to consider whenever I buy my next vehicle. The salesperson told me if I am not looking for a purchase right now then they are not willing to offer me a test drive. I think their sales department should have realized that denying a test drive right now is costing them a future prospect of a sale. I was surprised by this treatment of a customer by a big dealership. I mentioned to salesman, I have two 2014 Toyota vehicles with low miles if you can make a tempting offer I might consider buying. A good salesperson will take it as challenge but instead I was told there are lot of risks with test drive and if I am not in market I should just redeem the coupon!!!

Great Buying Experience

by NewOwner on 06/07/2017

I recently bought a 2017 Outback from Paul Rawlings at Williams Subaru. The entire process was great. Paul did not try to up-sell me, was professional, fair, and efficient. The entire process was great. I would highly recommend this dealership.

Car buying made simple

by A_from_Ohio on 05/31/2017

The sales person I worked with at at Williams was knowledgeable and friendly. He spent time making sure he knew what we wanted and he didn't push inventory that didn't meet my specifications. I enjoyed working with Ben and Jason and we purchased a used Subaru which was well priced for the market.

Not too bad.

by nti_hazard88 on 04/17/2011

I've had my '05 Impreza serviced here for some time now, and to be honest, while I won't commend Williams for being fantastic, I don't have anything negative to say. To me, for the most part, they're pretty straightforward. The labor rate is a bit steep, so that's a downside, but I maintain my vehicle well, so at 110,000 miles, I haven't had any repairs to do yet; just regular service. Their waiting room could use an upgrade, but they do have complimentary drinks, so that's a plus. They've never really impressed me, but then at least the work has always been on-time and they've never been rude or unprofessional with me either, so I'm not complaining. Although on a fair note, I'm not one who cares too much about being pampered as far as the customer service aspect goes. I just get in, get the work done, and get out. Although I do enjoy their courtesy shuttle for the couple of times I decided it would be easier to leave the vehicle overnight. I don't really understand why the reviews of this place are so negative, but I hope others may find this place not too bad, as I do. Bottom line: if you really know a place that will give you what you need for a lower rate, go for it. Otherwise, this service department, at least in my experience, is around average, and is OK if you just care about getting your Subaru fixed/maintained.

Not too bad, but do your research.

by nti_hazard88 on 04/17/2011

Afraid of all the rather negative reviews, I proceeded to talk to other dealers in the area. My family had bought a Honda from Thelen in Bay City, and I tried Kalamazoo as well. Ultimately, things did not work with Thelen, and I had no particular draw to work with the Kalamazoo dealership (though to their credit it was more due to the distance - they did not give me much trouble). So, I decided to chance it and give it a shot with Williams. Now, in all fairness, I had been servicing a previous Subaru with them for some time, but was looking to upgrade to a 2011 WRX. So I put in a request for a quote, and I was promptly contacted with some information. After some negotiation, I came out to a price just above invoice (fairly in line with the TMV), and we decided to proceed from there. I don't know if I just got lucky or if others were unfortunate to have a bad day with them, but I had a pretty hassle-free and low-pressure experience. Would I say they're absolutely magnificent and a wonderful dealership? No, but I definitely can't say my experience was negative. It was due in part to the fact that I had some heavy research done beforehand, and had prices and firm offers from other dealerships at my leverage, but all in all things went well for me. So my only recommendation is to make sure you know your stuff (and I'm not insinuating any of the reviewers before me did not), and hopefully you might get as lucky as me. Or perhaps they changed some of their employees. Good luck to anyone else!

Experience has been positive

by angiea on 05/28/2010

My car was blowing nothing but hot air out all the vents. A local shop told me I would have to disassemble the entire dash to fix my problem. Fearing they wouldn't be able to put it all back together properly, I took the one hour hike to Williams Subaru instead. Williams could have socked me with a big price; I was expecting it because of other mechanics quotes. Instead, Williams found a way, with a little ingenuity, to fix the broken heat lever beneath the dash. The mechanic said he thought it would hold for a long time, but if it didn't, I'd have to come back for the big fix instead. I really appreciated that their effort to save me money, and at the same time warned me that it might not work. The bill was $85 for the fix. On another trip to Williams I thought I needed a front end alignment. The mechanic told me all I needed was a tire balanced, and he did so. Again, I could have been hit up with the larger cost of the front end allignment, but I wasn't. Yet another trip to Williams, when a fee to look at my security system seemed inappropriate to me, Williams removed the fee from my bill. Every time I go to Williams, I know I can get a courtesy ride to wherever I want to go in town from Williams, and a pick up again. They usually wash my car for me after they have serviced it. Its an hour drive to get to Williams, but I go when issues come up because I feel confident they will address them properly. Often times the people who write evaluations like these are inspired to do so because they had a bad experience. The satisfied customers don't necessarily spout off about their good experience; they just go home and pick the kids up from school, water the garden, and go on with life.

Still dealing with these [violative content deleted]!

by pugdaddie on 05/21/2010

Had my ancient Legacy towed there last Thursday for a starting problem. It took several calls and 7 days for them to even be bothered to look at the car, always with excuses why it hadn't been done. Finally they tell me the starter is bad and they have the part in stock and they will fix it so I can have it on Friday. After waiting all day to hear from them, I called at 4:30 pm only to be told that they part is actually not in stock and they have ordered it and it will hopefully be in on Tuesday. I "should" be able to have my car back on Tuesday afternoon. Yeah, right. They will have had my car for almost two weeks for a repair that any wrencher could have done in his driveway in an hour and a half and they have no loaner cars available for me, probably because my car is old and beat up. The customer service that I have received has ranged from uncaring to deliberately rude. They obviously have no concern for the customer.

My Mother just moved to Lansing, Michigan and needed a oil change on her well maintained '03 Legacy GT sedan. She got a coupon from Williams Subaru for $39 for a oil change a vehicle inspection. She was told that over $850 worth of repairs needed to be made to the car to make it SAFE. Some repairs not required at all like heat shield replacement, The heat sheilds have rattled and rotted off the car shortly after it was new! The dealership saw out of state plates, older, female owner and gouged all they could.

avoid it if you can

by orbitskeeper on 10/02/2009

We own a Subaru Outback and have been stupid enough to take our car to Williams for years. The service there has improved over the years, but hey, let's be honest 4 x zero is still ZERO. The summary: the service is mediocre to poor. Sometimes they do not even know what is wrong with the car (even though it is under warrenty). They do not offer an extras like a loaner vehicle (if they have your car for a long time (like a wekk). And they are expensive. Want an example? Our car, purchased "brand new" was less than two years old, under factory warranty and started having "CHECK ENGINE" issues. If you read the owners manual it says do not drive past go, do not collect $200, go directly to your dealership. We took the car to the dealership immediately, it was riding rough and loud. They had our car for about 2 days and then said they didn't know what was wrong with it. Their advice: "just drive it around and it will probably go away." Very professional, eh? A few months later we had the same problem, but worse. We took it back. This time they had our car for A WEEK. They did not offer a loaner car, they did not tell us how long it would be. Finally, they learned that it was a faulty fuel injector and they replaced it, but it took days for them to get the part. The car worked fine after that, but they were hardly helpful about it all. What else can I say? I already wrote elsewhere that they gave us a quote for $5000+ to fix our car this year, when a trusted mechanic down the street did they job (splendidly I will say) for less than $1300. Our second mechanic went over the William quote with us and showed us all the places where they had "padded" the quote with unnecessary services and excessvie profits. If you ask anyone in town who drives a Subaru or VW they will tell you that Williams Auto World is one of the most unpleasant places to do business.

Never to be trusted

by orbitskeeper on 10/02/2009

I concur with the review written above about Williams Auto World. You need to be one your game 100% to buy a car from them because you can never trust a single thing they tell you. We were warned about the terrible service at this dealership when we arrived here. Practially everyone in town would say that Williams Auto World is THE WORST. But, they are the only ones to deal Subaru's in town, so we proceeded to give them the benefit of the doubt. We did our due diligence, researched the cost of the new car, and told them that we wanted a simple sale, no haggling, etc, let's just agree on a reasonable profit for you, and get it over with. They did not appreciate our approach and still tried to stretch the truth to justify the highest price possible with things like "dealer prep" etc etc. Finally, we found the car we wanted in Ann Arbor (about 50 miles) away and told them we would rather buy in our own community, but if we had to, we would go elsewhere to deal with honorable people. They finally relented. We got the car we wanted, at the price we wanted, but they made us work for it and made us endure many lies. I hated them for it. Now we are in the market for another car, and we do love our Subaru, but we never want to go back to Williams again. Ask any local who drives a Subaru or VW. They will tell you that it is worth it to drive to Ann Arbor before succombing to the lying hassles that await at Williams Auto World.
