Do you like your salesman to insult you?

by jfletch on 05/05/2021

Reached out with regard to an instock vehicle. Was quoted $10,000 over msrp via text by salesman Joshua Fink. Upon declining and referencing realistic quotes from competing dealerships Mr. Fink was immediately deceptive, confrontational, insulting and boasted of other large markups the dealership had taken from willing customers. A salesman that starts with outright lies and ends with insults does not represent Honda Usa or Honda Village of Newton well. "The great thing about the internet is it makes people seem witty and intelligent, that's just a facade to detract from their pathetic and loser-ish existence" Salesman Joshua Fink

Not a great car buying experience

by terrapins44 on 09/10/2017

After a horrible experience with another Honda dealership - It was off to a great start with Honda Village - they stayed open late for me to come in, as I had a check in hand ready to buy. I confirmed the price on the phone, the car I wanted was available (which was going to be a dealer swap), and that they accepted draft checks. All checked out. I get there, everything is going well, and we get the price finalized. Then I pull out the draft check, and the sales manager claims they don't accept draft checks. I know that some dealerships do not, but I confirmed with a salesperson that they do. I told them that I got 2.24% over 65 months through DCU, which is a great rate as Honda's tier 1 floor rate is about 3%. After (I kid you not) 40 minutes of discussion, where I don't feel I was treated great by the manager, he reluctantly€ told me that they also finance through DCU and could offer me the same rate. (As to why they didn't tell me that at the beginning-well, probably a typical car salesman act). This was on Wednesday. I put a $500 deposit down, and signed the preliminary Purchase and Sales Agreement. I was told to come in the next day (Thursday) - to sign the papers and potentially pick up the car Thursday, and if not Thursday, then Friday. I also needed the VIN # for insurance purposes (as they said they would fax the car information to my insurance company first thing Thursday morning, which they didn't send anything over all day). I was told I would get a call the next morning with that information. No call - I called 3 times that Thursday, every time, it was a different excuse. I went in Thursday at 430pm (to sign the papers and get the Vin #) - when I asked if the car was there, the sales person hesitated like he was hiding something, and said "you will have to ask the sales manager". So I laughed and said "you can't even give me a straight answer on that?"€ It turns out it wasn't there, which was fine, and I understood because it was a dealer swap. I sat in the dealership for 2 hours and 15 minutes before they printed out my papers and we signed everything. Absolutely crazy I had to wait that long. Fine, I moved on - and I got the VIN #, and signed the papers. I was told the car would now MAYBE be in Friday, if not, definitely Tuesday (as they don't do swaps over the weekend). I got a call Friday, the car wasn't in - "See you Tuesday to pick it up!"€ he told me. Tuesday comes around - no call. I call my salesman and sales manager each 2-3 separate times throughout the day, and neither picked up. Then I called the dealership - explained my situation, and was told I would get a call in 15 minutes. 2 hours went by, no call. So I called again - this time I said I was staying on the line - he comes back to the phone and goes "So the dealership sold your car to someone else" (BTW this was after I signed all the paperwork!!!). After talking on the phone for another 30 minutes, they finally told me they would find another of the same car - and that I could pick it up Wednesday. I called and confirmed Wednesday, and finally went to pick up the car! But wait, then they told me I would have to come back to get the registration and get the car inspected. But I was told by my salesperson to come in Thursday to pick it up. Again, he said "I will call you first thing in the morning if the registration will be available to pick up"€. He calls me Thursday - and doesn't remember why he was calling. So I asked about the registration. He told me he didn't know be he would check and call me back in 20 minutes. 2 hours goes by, he calls me back. Literally, the same conversation as before, so I ask him if I could pick up the registration that day, and he goes "Uhhhhh I'm not sure, let me check with the office, I will call you back"€. Again, 2 hours, no call back. I called him twice, no pick up. So I called the sales manager, he told me no I can't pick it up Thursday, but I can on Friday. Now mind you, I am working during the day as a teacher, and have to deal with this. I called out of work of my 2nd job on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday that week. I was treated horribly. Like once i signed the papers, they didn't car about getting the car, or registration to me in a timely manner. I also couldn't move into my apartment, because I needed the registration to get the parking permit. I had to catch a ferry to go to Long Island Friday night to go to a funeral. I then missed that ferry because they couldn't get their act together with the registration and car. I explained this to them that Friday, and they didn't care - they didn't want to make it right, or make sure the customer was happy. Great car, but horrible experience. Will not use this dealership again, I do not recommend it to anyone.

Insurance protection

by GaryJr2 on 01/23/2017

I purchased a car here and also purchased the guarantee that they offer, which includes road side assistance, oil changes, and etc. I took it for an oil change and they tried to charge me. They said they didn't know anything about any oil changes being included. After "looking and looking" through my file, they said I was right and it was included. About a month later, I get a flat tire. I called Zurich, which is the name of the warranty company, to make sure that they will cover my flat tire. They said they would. I then took it to the Honda Service and they call me back saying that I need to change all 4 tires because they are really worn out. Also, Zurich will not be paying for the flat tire because the tire is really worn out. What does that have to do with anything? If that was the case, why doesn't it say it on any of the papers?? I tell them not to do anything to my car and that I will have to talk to the company. I get to the dealership and they had changed the gasket, which was leaking and the company should have covered, but they were claiming that it wouldn't. I ask them if I have to pay considering I told them not to do anything to my car. They say the company paid for it. I ask how bad my tires are worn out? They show me examples of worn tires and say mine are between bad and good. Why call me and tell me that my tires needed to be changed immediately because they are badly worn out and then tell me that they are ok. And why tell me that the company will not pay for fixing my tire and then say they did. It seemed to me that they were trying to stiff me! Don't try and sell me extra warrantee and then tell me that all the things that are supposed to be covered are not. The man I was talking to at the Honda was also giving me attitude and saying how simple it all was that the warranty wouldn't cover it. Needless to say when I do get new tires, it won't be there

Great experience

by sarreina on 10/02/2013

Great experience working with Manny Z. at Honda Village. After speaking with many many other Honda salespeople I felt most comfortable with Manny and actually finalized the deal on the phone. Also found the staff to be friendly and professional, and same goes for Sales Manager I worked with (sorry, don't remember his name). I would recommend Honda Village and Manny Z. to anyone looking for a Honda.

Purchased a new Crosstour

by tiancovici on 09/23/2013

Out of all the Honda dealers in MA, this came with the best results. They offered the best quote. I didn't feel entrapped like in Honda Prime, where you try to leave the place, then the guy says "hold on" and brings his manager to bother you some more, then try to keep the process going forward as if you never said no. Got great help in Honda Village. I def recommend them, especially Jim Samson

Disrespectful and shameless

by savvy_shoppe1 on 09/16/2013

This dealership should not be on anyones list and their sales manager"David" should be fired for misbehaving and insulting potential clients in their showroom when a client propose a deal. I would never consider this dealership for any honda purchase and strongly recommend people to look at other dealerships if you are not one of those easy customers who just like to believe a sales man or a dealership on what they say because most of it is "make believe and move the inventory". their red tag event has sad deals. you must insist on buying not more than $500 to 1000 over invoice and ask them to produce their invoice sheet and not pull up random websites. I strongly recommend you to avoid this dealership specially you are a student or novice at negotiating.

Terrible Customer Experience. Deceptive, dishonest, unprofessional

by tfm1976 on 07/19/2013

Honda Village is a living parody of what we all envision a car dealership to be. All of the characters are here, the "cool" salesguy, the stern manager who can't understand why you don't appreciate their deal, the smoky finance manager ready to sell you the Scotchguard. Couple that with the bait and switch and some dramatics and they have it all. We recently started shopping for a car. We went to this dealership as a return customer, but the initial experience was awful. Nobody would acknowledge our presence. We spent 20 minutes in the store and not even a hello. I'm sorry that Saturday beach attire does not exude prospective customer. After further shopping, we returned, because they seemed to have the car that we wanted. We were greated by Tim. He was pleasant, goofy (kept jumping around and bumping into things) and seemed genuine, but that all changed later. He told us that it was a slow day and that he had extreme flexibility to do anything with the numbers to get us into the vehicle listed at $27,7. After a test drive, we talked numbers and were far apart. Tim brought in his "manager", Tom S.. Tom ran the numbers and his best offer was $700 off of the sticker ($27k). He looked like a high school student but did not exhibit that level of professionalism. He was nervous, not confident and contradictory. Tim told him we return customers. He didn't care. We entered into a discussion on our trade in and they low-balled it. We expected that, but eventually agreed to $2000 if we replaced the tires. They are now at $25,000 with the trade. We offered lower again but left when they refused to budge on price. Of course Tim, our pal, called back later and said that if we were willing to pay $25K for the car, we could get something done. We refused but he eventually agreed to come down to $23,900 plus trade in. Tim promised us that if we didn't buy the car at his price, that his owner's friend was already willing to....classic. We put down a deposit and got started. After an inspection showed body damage, Honda Village offered to repair it free of charge. We were thrilled and excited for our car. A few days later, we received a call that the car was ready. We brought in our trade, drove 45 minutes to get there, but were told that it was too late and we could not do the deal today. That's fine. We were willing to do the paperwork and swing by the next day. Everything was going great and efficient. We were led into the Finance office to finish. The Finance Manager Dave A. (?) was an older gentlemen with poor hearing. We asked several questions, but he ignored us/didn't hear and proceeded the hard sell on his warranty. We declined all options. We started to sign the paperwork and write out the check and got down to the last piece where we saw a price of $25.9 for the vehicle and $2000 for the trade in. That was not the deal. In fact, it was a price HIGHER than their inital offer of $27,000 for the car and $2000 for the trade. It made no sense at all and we questioned it. If we were not willing to pay $25K ($27K minus 2 for trade), why were we willing to pay $25.9K now. It is counterintuitive and incorrect. The finance manager yelled "we have a problem." Our pal Tim came in and immediately told us we were wrong. No apology for misunderstanding or effort to investigate. Just...you're wrong. He then said he would check with his manager. He came back and again said we were wrong. We were upset. The conversation escalated and he brought in another GM. The GM first said, "why did you start signing?!?!" that's the price. If that's not the price, why did you start signing" The signature on the purchase document was the first time that we saw the price on paper. We said that was not the agreed on price and he said we were wrong. We expressed displeasure, and admittedly used harsh words, but in the end asked for our money and car back. He asked if it was my car or my wife's. I said it was my wife's and he told me to shut up and get out of his office. He also said that he would call the police if we didn't shut up and leave. That's fine. Deal over. What's not fine is his low-five to a coworker/friend on the way out of the office who then responded, "you get 'em every time." I'm sure that I was not supposed to see that. We believe that Tim made a "mistake", whether intentional or not, it was a deep chasm of misunderstanding between two parties. He showed no effort to reconcile or any professionalism. Maybe it was all the bumps and bruises to the head. We were sorry to see it end this way, not over budget or financial reasons, but just over old-fashioned honesty, transparency and sales professionalism. Here's hoping that the owner's friend enjoys this car. I'm sure he won't have the same experience.

Disappointment

by arthsiung on 07/04/2013

I had a very bad experience with Honda Village. First, the finance manager (Ivaylo P.) tried to rush me into making decisions. I had to wait at the dealership for more than 3 hours before he was able to come up with the best rate that he could get for me. The rate was much higher than I expected with my credit score (795) and he tried to convince me that is a good rate. I asked him whether he was able to find better rates for me, but he told me he did not have enough time and the branch was closing. I wanted to wait for the next day and make my decision since the rate was so high; and he told me that if I did not make a decision that day then the vehicle price I was offered will be voided. I felt that I was forced to make a decision..... After 4 months, I finally have time to go to my bank and see what rate they could offer. Just for your references, the new APR is half of the rate that Honda Village got me. On that same day, Ivaylo then tried to sell me a bunch of additional coverage offered by the dealership. Again, he gave me maybe 8 different things. He explained it very briefly and forced me to make a decision right away. He told me I could not get any of these coverage the moment I drove off the car. I picked one of the coverage, but after I went home and read the coverage more carefully, it was not the same as what Ivaylo described to me in the dealership. There were many limitations that he purposely avoided telling me. Second, I also had problems with David R., the General Sales Manager. A few days after I purchased the car, someone from Honda American Company called me and asked me to rate my dealership experience. I, of course, did not give Honda Village the best rating. After another week, I had some problems with the car. The car has roughly 50 miles on it. I gave the dealership a call and got transferred to David. He told me he could not help me because he received my review from Honda American Company. Since I did not give them a good review, he refused to help me. I tried to tell him why I gave such ratings. He was not listening and he even yelled at me on the phone for 20 minutes. At the end, I asked him to calm down and even apologized to him because he did not receive bonuses due to this review. He just hung up on me. I would not recommend Honda Village to anyone.

Bunch of [non-permissible content removed]

by icewater5 on 04/10/2013

If I had to do it all over again there is no way I would buy from Honda Village again. I repeatedly had to call them on "errors" in how they calculated fees and when we finally negotiated free oil changes, they ended up reneging on that aspect of the deal. Lied to my face and continuously gave me the run around when I tried to get resolution to the situation. Go elsewhere!

[violative content deleted] car dealer

by jikamens on 01/21/2010

We bought a new 2007 Honda Odyssey from this dealership a few years ago. We were both misled and outright lied to by the sales guy about the coverage of the dent repair warranty. We first realized the "misled" part, after which we asked the dealership to refund the cost of the warranty. They said they would, but never sent the check and stopped returning my phone calls. While dealing with that mess, I discovered the "outright lied" part. We had asked the salesman directly when we bought the car if the warranty would cover dents in the bumpers, and he claimed it would. I said, "Are you sure? The warranty seems to say that it only covers sheet metal components. Are the bumpers made of sheet metal?" "Yes, they are, they're covered," he responded. I called the company that actually issued the warranty, and they confirmed that the bumpers are *not* sheet metal and are *not* covered by the warranty. So I sent Ray Ciccolo, the owner of the dealership, a letter informing him that if he didn't refund the cost of the warranty as well as some money to compensate me for all of my time his dealership had wasted on this, I was going to sue him for deceptive trade practices and he'd end up paying me triple damages. That finally made him pay up. Other complaints: * They spam us over and over. We ask them to stop, over and over, and still the spam keeps coming. * We supposedly received a "VIP membership" along with the car, which supposedly entitled us to three free oil changes, but when my wife took the van to the dealership for an oil change, they (of course) upsold her all sorts of services she didn't actually need, and charged her for the oil change despite the fact that she specifically mentioned that it was supposed to be free. I complained to the service department manager afterwards, and he said that all we had to do was mention the VIP program and we'd get the free oil change. I responded (in email) that my wife *had* mentioned the free oil change, and they charged her anyway. He never responded to my email. * Since June 2009, they've been sending out promotional mailings in envelopes, without their name on the outside, that are intentionally designed to look like official government correspondence (e.g., there's a bogus certified mail stamp printed on the envelope, and the year and return address are printed on the envelope using the same font and format that the IRS and Social Security Administration use). This is totally slimy obnoxious. I asked them months ago to stop sending them to me and they continue to come. Honda Village fits perfectly into the stereotype of the [violative content deleted] car dealer.

they cheated me to pay for a car that did NOT exist

by mwang on 08/14/2009

It was a very bad experience. Honda village at NEWTON promised me a very low price on the phone. At the site, I tested one car with higher setting than I can afford. They told me that they have the car I wanted, but it was stored in another small town. I paid using credit card and check. But when I bought the car insurance, they told me that they didn't have the car they sold to me. I have to accept cars with a different color and high testing mileage. It wasted me a lot of times on the site, buying & cancelling insurance. They even did not want to refund me the money.

good buying experience, but robbed by the financial

by haidong on 05/17/2009

I got the quote from the internet and they hold the price well. After I agreed the price, they pushed me to pay the down payment without financial detail (rate...) When the time that I need to sign the document, they put me in the room without the enough light, talking with me other stuff, so I could not pay attention that they charged some financial insurance to the purchase agreement. Also the rate is more 2% higher than market rate. And put me in 5 years loan which I do not need. Car delivery process is clean. you need to make the appointment to let them deliver the car to the dealership before you coming, do not buy the car without touching that.

CRV'd Off

by pnam on 03/16/2009

I am so thankful that there is a way to get out real experiences when car shopping and buying. For me and my personal experience in dealing with Honda Village of Newton, the best I can offer is if anyone is even contemplating going there, emailing, driving, walking, taking public transportation or even canoeing to the banks of the Charles in Watertown Square and jogging up to Washington St. - don't go. Just don't do it. The sales management's primary focus is to build up a car and a price that can't be matched anywhere else - at least that's what they tell you. It won't matter that the numbers are on paper; that you negotiated in good faith, that you worked your monthly payments out based on what they told you. Because when they are through with you, the numbers will never have existed. If you thought test driving the car of choice was something, you haven't seen anything until the sales management (the phantom and czar of the numbers) takes you on the ride of your life. And the journey begins and ends in hell.

Terrible

by samgreen on 04/26/2008

If you like dealers who renege on their written word. If you like dealers who don't want to tell you the price. If you like dealers who badmouth others dealers as they themselves do the same thing. If you like dealers who make you wait to wear you down. If you like dealers who use razzle dazzle rather than talk straight. If you like any or all of the above, go to Village Honda. I had an appalling experience even by the low standards of most car dealers. No, they didn't "earn" my business. I'll never understand why a company that makes such good cars tolerates such bad dealers.

Worst Dealership

by nasq on 01/19/2008

I ended up returning my vehicle, and going to another dealership. After negotiations and signing documents, they took forever to locate and deliver the vehicle, which they claimed was very far away (I later learned the vehicle was obtained from a dealership just a few miles away). They attempted to change my original financing agreement that I'd already signed, and tried to pressure me into signing new documents. The sales manager was extremely rude, and even physically threatening. He tried to snatch the original paperwork away at one point. They have very dishonest sales practices, and even after the car was returned, the downpayment was never given back. I had to put a stop payment on the check. It also took more than 2 weeks for them to return the car plates in order for me to be able to cancel the car on my insurance policy. In sum, avoid this dealership!

Honda Village was a horrible experience

by omarabdala on 01/12/2008

I was shopping for an accord one afternoon and walked into the honda village dealership. We negotiated in a standard way, but when it came down to signing a contract, I said I wanted to to research online. This irritated the salesman, and in fact, the sales manager came out of the back office to yell at me, berate me, and curse me out before I left
