very bad experience

by MP on 07/30/2020

Very frustrating experience in trying to get a portion of a service contract refunded, as I no longer own the vehicle. From the start, Paul Myers was terrible to work with. He would not return my multiple follow up e-mails and phone calls after the initial phone call I had with him in mid March. It wasn't until June, after I CC'd all the managers on the King VW website, that Paul finally sent me the form he needed me to sign. 3 months, multiple phone calls and emails, and that's how long it took him to just send me the form he needed me to sign. Two months later, after two calls with VW corporate and a conversation with Paul's boss Charles, I now know that somehow they mailed the check to my old address, even AFTER I caught this mistake in June and Paul Myers verified in writing he had corrected this. In this final phone call, Paul's supervisor Charles listened to me, was kind, and did waive the $50 service charge the dealership takes out, as he agreed that the level of service I received from Paul Myers was unacceptable. I was disappointed that he did not go so far to take responsibility for it as his direct supervisor, and someone who should have been aware of the situation as he had been copied on my last 3 e-mails to Paul. Again, I appreciate this gesture, but it does not take away from an incredibly frustrating experience. I wanted to be treated fairly and like a valued customer. Instead, I was essentially ignored for months. My suggestion to the owner would be to remind their team that whether someone is buying a new car, or returning a service contract, they are still customers and should be treated fairly and with the same level of service. In addition, please provide Paul some sorely needed retraining in basic customer service skills. Manager of anything should not be in his title. TL; DR: They took 5 months to process paperwork that could have been processed in 24 hours. Anyone who has ever been to a car dealership knows that dealerships will bend over backwards to take care of you when they are making the sale. Unfortunately in this case at King VW, the same is not true for taking care of their customers after the sale.

Bought a Car from here, Biggest Mistake of My Life Trusting Them

by neerraybaruah on 06/07/2018

This review was one interaction away from being a 5-star customer experience, but let me tell you why it is genuinely one of the worst dealerships I have come across. Last week, my family unfortunately made the decision to purchase a car from this dealership. We bought a new 2018 GTI that King brought in from Harrisburg, PA (100+ miles away). We met Paul Myers earlier in the week and he provided decent service, and helped us reach an acceptable price and ensured we got what we wanted. The entire experience was great until shortly AFTER we left the facility. 2 days after purchasing the car, we noticed there were tiny but visible scratches on the left front headlight. Let me note that we purchased the car on a rainy, foggy evening. So we returned to ask them that day to replace or fix the damage. This is where their true customer service was exposed, and what has made me never trust this dealership again. After presenting the damage to Paul, our sales consultant, he informed his manager about the situation, and handed over the issue to him. The sales manager, Diako Akundzadeh, was unlike any manager I have ever encountered, and not in a good way. Not only did he fail to admit to VW's lack of detailed inspection, he further blamed us of not noticing the damage on the date of purchase and accusing us for the scratches. Let me assure you that in those 2 days from taking the car off the lot to noticing the scratches, we drove the car merely less than 50 miles, and definitely did not cause the damage. In the grand scheme of things, the damage is not severe enough to return the car, but it greatly showed their lack of care for customers after securing the deal. We took Paul's word when he stated that the imported car was brand new and showed no damage when he inspected it. We did not doubt his eyes and were wow'ed by the interior features of the car when he handed us the keys. Little did we realize that we would actually need to look at every little detail in the dark, foggy rain, in the late evening to point out flaws, rather than holding the inspection service team and our sales consultant - who double checked after inspection - responsible for such defects. As a customer coming to a car dealership looking for a NEW car, scratches are the last thing I'm looking at when contemplating which car to buy. Additionally, they advertised the car as completely cleaned after bringing it in to King, but everything under the hood was filled with dust. The manager then proceeded to say the servicemen must have not seen it due to the nighttime. Not only does this exemplify their lack of care, but if they "didn't see the dirtiness" in the station, how do you expect us, customers outside in the rain, to notice the damage to the headlight that the average eye would not recognize? Anyways, I am shocked and honestly appalled I made the decision to purchase a VW through this dealership. The company has amazing cars, but the customer service is atrocious as the cars are lovely. After their manager said he would call us the next day after discussing the situation with the rest of management at King, he never actually followed up. For a new customer who bought a car less than a week ago, it is honestly disheartening to start off with such a terrible tong with the dealership and furthermore, Volkswagen, for allowing this disgraceful customer service.

I had a great experience

by jamison884 on 10/29/2017

Douglas in sales and chuck in the finance department were exceptional. Ultimately the sales manager made the deal happen and accepted a number I felt was fair for both parties. They beat out all of the local NJ dealerships I contacted by several thousand dollars on out-the-door pricing, so I made the drive down to Maryland just to make the purchase and received the desired savings. The VW Golf GTI SE Manual I purchased is an amazingly fun to drive car with great features and is really a top model within its price range. The four hour drive home was thrilling every time I took a bend with the turn-in and mid-corner balance being just fun to drive. The torque from the turbo is impressive and as soon as it kicks in you have all the acceleration you need. I recommend King VW without hesitation.

Above and beyond service

by SamiraS on 05/31/2017

I've been searching for a new Volkswagen for a fair price for a while now. I have driven Volkswagen for most the time I've had a license and I will most likely continue being a loyal customer. Initially, my father and uncle tried to get a good deal from the Ourisman Volkswagen dealership nearby. However, after an unsuccessful deal, we decided to try King Volkswagen. My uncle, having had a bad experience before, still recommended to come to this dealership and check it out. Needless to say, the staff went above and beyond and more than exceeded our expectations and I was able to walk away with my lovely '17 Jetta last night. I am very satisfied and will continue being a loyal customer of King Volkswagen, as well as recommend anyone in search of a car to this dealership. Ali helped me initially with the car, but it was with the help of Diako Akhundzadeh that I was able to reach a deal. I am very grateful to him and his staff. Diako treated me and my father like family, and without his help I would not have been able to drive off with the car I had wanted from the start. My little brother will be turning 16 soon and once he gets his license we will be sure to come back to Diako, Ali, and the wonderful staff at King Volkswagen for his car.

Avoid King VW

by tdi_tjd on 04/28/2017

Very dishonest salespeople. They refused to answer straightforward questions, like whether the price they offer includes rebates. Be prepared for the typical, sleazy dealership experience, if you go with King VW. It’s clear that they value the bottom line over customer experience and transparency.

DO NOT buy a car here!

by Glademom1 on 01/29/2017

We had an absolutely horrible experience with my son trying to purchase his first car. They made him feel uncomfortable and treated all of us badly. Their "internet price" is a scam because they have lumped every incentive they can into the price and then when you get there you are told you don't "qualify" for most of them. We left and went to Fitzgerald in Frederick where we had a perfectly wonderful experience. Stay away from King!

GREAT DEALER TO BUY FROM!

by lpboteler on 03/17/2015

My wife and son have been happy customers of King Volskwagen for several years. I recently needed a new mid size sedan and after looking at several makes and models, stopped by King Volkswagen where Diako helped me with buying a 2015 Passat SEL. I had seen this car at another dealer, but Diako's thorough product knowledge of both VW's and its competitors and his ability to beat the price down where I wanted it made the sale. I had already heard very positive things about King Volkswagen service, so this was a no brainer.

Don't waste your time

by drummedic on 10/02/2014

I contacted this dealership via their website from out of state in attempt to purchase a vehicle. I had asked initially that they do not call me because I was at work. This request was ignored. Then, during the call, the salesman was rude, had an attitude, and seemed unwilling to work with me. I explained that I was out of state and would not be able to just drive to dealership without having a solid chance for a deal to work out because I simply wasn't spending that much time and effort (very glad I didn't go). I provided him with the information he requested to evaluate my trade. He replied with an offer that was $10,000 (yes, that's right, $10,000) less than what I was offered locally and what the auto buying websites stated I should be offered. This experience was a total waste of my time. I would not recommend ANYONE shop at this dealership.

Great experience in car purchase

by billylee1 on 10/02/2014

I bought my VW Jetta S (manual transmission) in this dealership and I would say the overall experience till now is great! There are a number of things I specifically appreciate about this dealer and its salespersons. (1) The salesperson Lev was very helpful. When I called to ask for very specific information about car specifics and pricing, he was very honest and transparent: telling me every detail about the car and how the final price was added up, unlike some dealers who always beat around the bushes with regard to pricing and try every trick to lure a customer to their shop. (2) When I negotiated price with Lev over the phone, he was also very courteous and responsive. He also very well kept the price promised over the phone when I actually went into the shop to purchase the car---no unhappy surprise at all. (3) With regard to my experience at the dealership store, Lev prepared the car well for test drive before I came. He was very patient in introducing this car to me--both the good sides and weakness about this car. He was also agreeable, warm, and funny, and I had a very nice talk with him during the test drive. It took me less than 2 hours from driving in to this dealership to driving out in my brand new car---I get a sense that they are organized and efficient. (4) the business manager Chuck also gave me a very good impression too. Though he did not speak a lot, he was straightforward and clear about every piece of information. Just the facts and info without long-winded persuasion to get me spend extra money. That's basically what I experienced in King VW. Hopefully this signals a good start because I anticipate long relationship with them for future maintenance or even repair.

Hassle Free Purchase

by tbone32 on 04/09/2014

We bought a diesel VW Jetta station wagon from Kings, after shopping around a fair amount to find exactly what we wanted. We used a car buying service, and the purchase from Kings was at a great price, and completely hassle-free. We walked in and met with their online salesman who had the quote in hand, exactly as we were expecting with no surprises. They of course offered extended warranties, but not in a pushy way.

Great experience

by Tiguan_buyer on 08/18/2013

My wife and I have been returning to live in the US from Europe and have been looking to buy a new car upon arrival. We needed the car right away so we spent time on setting everything up prior to arrival from Europe. We contacted King VW to get a quote for a 2013 VW Tiguan. Francisco has been very helpful and attentive from the beginning, offering all details we needed and asked for. It was no problem that we could not come to the dealership and see the car before we landed in the US. It is really great that Francisco helped us with basically going through 95% of the purchasing process without us setting foot in the dealership, so that when we arrived we got there by 9:30 and left 1-2 hours later after test driving and signing various documents. Prior to arrival we also filled out a credit application which the dealership also was helpful in providing. When we arrived to test drive and purchase the vehicle, the car was ready and for us and we could simply take it out for a test drive. The car was well prepped and everything was as we agreed upon in the prior email communication leading up to the actual meeting. Overall our experience with VW King was that they lived up to their commitment and they have provided an excellent service throughout the process. Based on my experience with them, I can only give them my best recommendations.

Great Place to Buy a car.

by Olufson3 on 08/16/2013

As title states, this was a great place to purchase a new VW. First came to this dealership after a friend bought a used car and went to the same salesperson for a new car. This dealership gave me very relaxing experience, nu pushing and asking same question million times if we want to buy a car, our salesman Arthur was great with very good knowledge about the product and took us to the right car from the first test drive. If you are buying a car and not looking for drama go to this place!

Good Deal - Easy Transaction - Professional Sales Staff

by hankaaron61 on 01/28/2013

Puchased a used car -a trade in - from this dealer. They were willing to negotiate a better price than advertised - set up the basic transaction over the phone. Once I went in to the dealership to inspect and test drive the car, Arbi, the used car sales manager and Ryan, the salesman could not have been nicer or more helpful. The whole transactioin was easy and painless.

Salesman very good, professional, got a good price

by nedf104 on 10/24/2012

I did my research and got an excellent offer online. Since King is closest to me, I sent an email. Internet salesperson Arbi was very good, professional, courteous, answered all my questions and met the price quote I had. The only negative was a fairly long wait for the F&I man, but they said he had been fairly busy (a Saturday morning). F&I guy was not all that pleased that I had already had financing and wasn't going to buy any extras - and I had no trade-in since I donate my used cars for use by the wonderful Montgomery County public school automotive trades training program. But overall one of my better car buying experiences - five star except for the maybe 40 minute wait for the F&I guy. I would go back.

DECEIVING, UNPROFESSIONAL, STUPID Do not recommend this dealership. The moment you pick up your new car, they won't care about you at all. No follow up, no check up call, no follow up email, no return calls, no, no, no, you're alone! They hid a very essential information, made me stupid when I found out. They didn't want to take any responsibility on what they said (and made up things they never said). Their price wasn't that good, I just pick this one and got my new car, which was my BIG MISTAKE. Price not good, service not good, you have no reason to go there. No wonder this dealership is inactive. The sales people I dealt with don't know what they're saying, will change words later, blame customers for 'misunderstanding' AND have short term memory loss... Please take my two cents, do not work with this dealership. When it's not busy, there's a reason behind it, THEY ARE NOT GOOD!

Beware! Lying Salesman & Rude Manager

by nowosun on 05/07/2012

First of all, the salesman at Kings lied about the equipment of the car - and to cover it up, he wouldn't even let me test drive outside of its parking lot. Lacking experience I mistrusted him. After test drive, he kept pushing me to buy the car. When I asked about the equipment of the car, he lied and answered yes to all my questions. Finally, when I was still trying to make a decision, the salesman told me they already initiated the application for financing - using the driver licenses I gave them for test drive. What's worse, three days later when I found out the truth, I went back to Kings and sought for a solution - the lying salesman claimed he explained everything clearly to me - and the manager blamed me for not checking about every single detail. His exact words "No matter what the salesman tells you, you should check it yourself - not just to believe it." If everyone has the expertise on cars - we can simply buy cars from Walmart. So if you are in the market buying a new VW, stay away from Kings, as they will lie and trick your money, and then deny any responsibility. Beware!

Don't bother reading the negative reviews!

by brifol5 on 04/13/2012

I can't say enough good things about King Volkwagen. I've never had a car purchase go this quickly or this smoothly. The were curtious and flexible for a car that flies off the lots and that other dealers add surcharges to. First, lets talk about Roger, my salesman. He was knowledgable about the car, never added any pressure to the purchase, and bent over backwards to ensure we were satisfied. He even came in on his day off to meet with me when I brought the car back to have mud flaps installed. Next, let's talk about Mike the manager. Unlike other dealerships where the manager sits in the ivory tower and is the "voice behind the curtain," Mike pulled up a seat to the purchase and was an integral actual voice. Finally, let's talk about price. We bought a Jetta Sportwagen TDI and traded in a Takoma 4x4. We got such a fair price that I do not feel slighted and I'm sure the dealership feels the same. I always find I feed bad, like I was taken advantage of, after a new car purchase...this time was SO different. So the long and short of it is, they're a good bunch. And they cared! In the DC area? Go to King!

Dishonest Dealer

by angelfall1988 on 03/15/2011

PLEASE READ, THIS IS A GOOD STORY BTW. I'll keep it brief. It is my first time buying a car. THEY SOLD ME A CAR WITHOUT AIR CONDITION. SALESMAN LIED. MANAGER ACT as if he want to help, but he didn't offer anything decent. I saw their advertisement online for a volkswagen Jetta with a decent price. Called and the salesman told us the price seen low on the advertisement but they will definitely honor the price if it is advertised online. On the advertisement, it stated the car has all the basic stuff including a/c, radio, and such. We went to the store, salesman pull up the car and told us this is the car we advertised online, it has the same inventory number as we advertised. We test drive the car and realize the car doesn't have a radio, he said the radio is the only difference between this car and the car advertised online, we are getting a great deal with this car, all we have to do is spend $200 to install the radio, and assure us RADIO is the ONLY difference between this car and the car advertised online. We even ask him in the car, "so it has A/C, heater, all those basic stuff right". He said of course, the ONLY difference is the RADIO. We bought the car, three days later, we discover the car does not have AC. We went back, manger said it will cost $11,000 to install the A/C, or we can trade in the car for a new one, but this car will lose 4000 dollars instantly. We bought the car for 16,200, and he offered the trade in value of 12000. I said to the manager, "if your salesman disclose to us that the car does not have AC, we would never bought it, we would look at other car, who sells a vehicle w/o AC in maryland. I had the car for 4 days, put 140 miles on it, now you are telling me I am gonna lose $4000 on it." Manger's word was," I am sorry, but you should have read the MSRP sticker, it list everything on the car, and you agree to buy the car, there's nothing more I can do for you" Salesman's word was" BUDDIE, I told you yesterday, this car is the basic model, IT HAS NOTHING IN IT, no AC, no RADIO". I remember the day we bought the car Salesman's words were, "BUDDIE, you are getting a great deal, the ONLY difference between this car and the car advertised online is the RADIO, come on you can install the radio for 200 dollars". After hearing the salesman lied to my face, I walked out without anymore words because he lied and he's certainly not going to help. I know that man has let go of his integrity and became a liar because of few hundred bucks commission and I pity him for degrading himself for money like that. Before I went back to the dealership, i even tell myself, salesman probably didn't know the car doesn't have A/C and he will certainly offer a good way to solve this issue. What's Ironic is that manger even said to me, "sorry you have to learn your lesson the hard way, but what is done is done". THE END (I hope you all enjoy the story) ------- BTW, I traded my car in with Congressional Volkswagen, took a 2000 dollar loss instead of 4000. Congressional VW told me they will probably auction off car, no one can drive a car w/o AC in Maryland when it's 100 degree outside. I am grateful that Congressional VW was willing to take the car in and offered us a great deal on the new car(w/o any price negotiation). There is just NO way i can sell a car without AC myself. I simply can't understand why King Volkwagen can't do the same and offer the same deal.
