Very Good Buying Experience

by ayeray on 11/13/2011

Perry Johnson gave a prompt answer to my e-mail and set up a date on 11/01/11 to discuss my trade-in and a deal. He turned out to be one of the nicest guys and most helpful people I have ever dealt with at any car dealer. At age 72, I've bought a goodly number of cars and met a bunch of salespeople too, so thats saying something. After a moderate amount of dickering to reach a deal that both I and the dealership could live with, he called around to find a new Elantra with the color and equipment I wanted and it was delivered the next day. As it arrived, the cargo net and mudflaps needed to be installed so he arranged with the service dept. for installation a few days hence. Those items were installed as scheduled and with good workmanship. Both my wife and I are very happy with the car and the dealership.

Buyer Beware!

by thelonman on 11/10/2011

Went in to test drive a used 2004 Hyundai Elantra GT. Seemed like a decent car at first. But upon further inspection the car was plagued with numerous problems. I know that a $5000 car is not going to be perfect, but I do expect it to be a decent, fairly reliable and safe vehicle. So I take the car back and explain to Andy Bell that the driver's window won't roll up, the sunroof won't close when opened, the instrument panel lights are not functioning, the antenna is gone, a major piece of trim on the front of the car is missing, the check engine light is on permanently and last but not least, the car's transmission sounds like it is about to explode and violently shakes the car when the automatic transmission switches between second and third gears - even when passing or accelerating at a very moderate speed. The car literally feels and sounds like it could explode. Do you want to hear what the salesman (Andy Bell) told me? First off, he said I shouldn't expect much of anything from a $5000 car. Well $5000 may not be much money to Andy Bell, but to some of us it's a lot of money. Second, he told me that if he were buying a car such as this, he would know better than to try to pass another vehicle and that three out of the four gears in the transmission (1st, 2nd, and 4th) did work and most people would be happy with that. Andy said if I was really gentle with the car it could potentially last a long time! Is he nuts!?! In case you didn't notice Andy, I'm on a cane. Almost thirty years ago I purchased a used car that had major brake problems that were never disclosed, the brakes failed and a tractor-trailer hit me... on the very day I bought the car! I am and have been since that day, an incomplete paraplegic secondary to a thoracic aortic rupture with a completely reconstructed face that was broken into twenty-two pieces, my femur went through my pelvis and into my abdomen and because of that I lost part of my intestines and stomach, my left hand was severed and I punctured a lung. I realize that it is of no concern to you, Andy Bell, but that is why I got extremely angry that you would callously put myself and my wife in a vehicle that has such a serious and potentially life threatening mechanical problem - this wasn't just a little problem. First I asked Andy if he thought this was any way to try to build a lifelong relationship with potential or current customers... by selling them junk? Andy graciously let me know that he had over 1,200 former customers! Let me tell you something Andy, that doesn't impress me at all. In fact, I'm here to tell you Andy, if I were one of your former customers, I would seriously be looking at my transaction with you to make sure that I hadn't been taken to the cleaners or could potentially die in one of your vehicles due to your negligence. I then asked if Hyundai of Somerset inspected these vehicles at all and he said Hyundai of Somerset didn't do anything but clean them up and put them on the lot. He at that point let me know that if I so chose, I could take it to a mechanic and let them inspect it. I said, "Andy, it's a Hyundai, right? Why can't you, Andy, take it across the road and hook it up to a Hyundai computer to see why the check engine light is on and inspect the transmission to see what is wrong with it... Since You ARE A HYUNDAI DEALER!". He had no answer. He had no answer because Andy, the management and the owner of Hyundai of Somerset don't want to know what is wrong with the car. I then told him I wouldn't give $1000 for the car and he let me know that as soon as people (poor people - my emphasis)got their income tax checks, that he would empty the lot of all his cars(substandard automobiles - again my emphasis). He then proceeded to let me know that I had not gotten a very good deal on my 2008 GMC Yukon that I had bought from McAlpin-Hall (which used to be the only place I would buy a used vehicle and in fact have probably spent over $100,000 on vehicles there in the last several years). But guess who now owns McAlpin-Hall as of today? You guessed it... Hyundai of Somerset. So my suggestion to you, the potential customer, drive right on past this sham of a dealership, save yourself a whole bucket full of problems and buy yourself a vehicle somewhere the salesman, the management and the owner actually gives a flying flip about taking your money and giving a decent deal in return. Oh, and Andy, I would suggest removing the 2004 Hyundai Elantra GT off the lot before someone gets hurt or killed while driving it.

worst dealership ever

by finishnail1 on 02/23/2011

went here to trade for a 2010 santa fe. deal was fair but i subsequently had some issues that did not allow me to follow through. i went oun of town on personal family business. once that was taken care of i left to go to daytona. when i returned(maybe two weeks later) i went to dealership to explain what had happened.. at that point i was told that they had wasted too much time on me and that i should just leave!. after i told them the sales guy what [violative content deleted] he is, i did leave and would never set foot on their lot again. beware of this place1

Very untrustworthy sales people

by stogz52 on 03/09/2010

This is one of the worst dealerships in Somerset. Chuck Coldiron own this dealership and also owns serveral other businesses in Somerset that I won't patronize. I would not deal with them again if they gave me a brand new Hyundai! I first dealt with Ron Elliot. He seemed like a nice guy but after I bought a car from him he changed. By that I mean while I was buying the car it was the best one on the lot according to him but it was a real lemon. Their attitude was if you buy used car what can you expect. Well, I expect the truth. They lied to me from the beginning. They told me they would let me trade even for another car but when I took them up on the offer they didn't have available to trade. Will Branscum told me they would make it right with me but then never returned my phone calls.
