4th vehicle purchase in December 22

Our family have been a customer of Liberty Subaru for over 10 years and just purchased our 4th vehicle in the family. Elmer Hansen, sales manager, is the direct opposite of the stereo type car sales person, honest and does exactly what he says. Sales staff takes his lead and delivers exactly what they say they will. Low pressure, low price with a great sales experience translates to the only place I go to purchase my Subaru cars.

Fantastic Service

I bought my first Subaru with Charles and James at Liberty Auto. They were both great in making sure that I was able to stay within my budget while also getting me the car that I was looking for. Thorough explanation of everything from the car to financing. Could not have asked for a better car buying experience. If you’re a seasoned buyer or this is your first time, 10/10 recommend coming in. These guys will take care of you 100%.

Defying stigmas, Liberty Auto is the best!!!

I went in on Monday for an oil change, which was the normal customer service I know this business is good for. Thursday night my fiancé pointed out an oil puddle on the garage floor and I was highly concerned about this, considering my car is only 3 years old and was purchased brand new from Liberty Auto and I have never brought my car for any service anywhere else. Yesterday (Friday) I called and mentioned an issue and had scheduled an appointment for 10:30 AM. When I arrived the service bay was so packed that I could barely get my car in. I had to wait a bit to speak with Tony. I showed him pictures, explained the slow but steady oil leak, and explained how concerned I was and the possible worst case scenario harm that my car could have endured if this continued. He told me he was going to bring this to the service manager and I asked to speak with him as well. I was sent to the waiting area and within 10 minutes Adam again came out and spoke with me and brought me in the service area to show me what was going on, as per my request. He told me his best educated guess about what was going on which was accurate because the crush washer definitely looked like it did not crush. I went back to the waiting area and soon after he came out with the crush washer which was in fact, factory defective. I waited another 10 minutes and he brought me the drain plug and showed me wear and tear on this but said he would replace this as well to be safe. Then he told me it would be about half hour and he thought it would be good to go. It was a little over half hour later and Adam came out not looking so confident. I was told the oil was still leaking and he suspected something came loose in the oil pan. Despite the extreme amount of clients at the service center he was able to get me a loaner vehicle (which was absolutely brand new) and I was told it should be a few hours to work through the problem. I have had a loaner in the past shortly after I bought my vehicle but this process went even smoother and quicker than normal. After the expected time had passed I called to see how everything was going, as I was being transferred to Adams line I received a call, but I ignored this since it came up as a Northbrook number. After not reaching Adam I checked my voicemail and it was from him. I immediately called back (before he left for the day) and he explained everything in detail to me. The leak was fixed and he replaced another part that I was recently informed about and had also inquired about earlier in the day. I brought the loaner back and was checked out as per normal but Tony and the service clerk (a very sweet female but I can’t remember her name) ensured that I was happy with everything. Something as trivial as an oil change went horribly wrong but was due to what seemed to be a factory faulty weld on an oil pan, and a faulty crush washer. I was shocked at how far above and beyond Adam went to correct the problem. Plus it seemed that he was actually working on this issue himself. He even got me “diapers” to correct the oil damage to my garage floor. He was so very honest and this is beyond appreciated because I expect the opposite out of car dealerships and am always skeptical due to past dealerships as well as the reputation that dealerships have, and this is something I have to be especially skeptical about since I am an almost 30 year old, short female (all of these characteristics make me susceptible to dealerships attempting to take advantage of me, which does not work because I am oddly educated on vehicle mechanics). Liberty Auto Subaru has kept their great reputation in my mind. This is the only dealership I have ever said positive things about and I have referred many people here, two of these individuals have purchased vehicles and the occurrence from this week truly tested my positive views of this dealership and exceeded my expectations. Adam is a valuable employee to this company and I can’t begin to express my gratitude towards him. Don’t ever let him go! He truly cared, he was honest, thorough, forward and had quality standards which are all perfect qualities for the service department and I could not ask for more. Thank you all again for turning my nightmare of an oil change into an extremely positive experience that defied stigmas about dealerships and service centers at dealerships!

Service Department Going Downhill Fast

I have been going to this dealer for the last 20 years for both purchases and service and I can say that within the last year the service department has been less than stellar. Had routine maintenace done with no update on My Subaru History, No upated oil change sticker on the windshield "Did they really change the oil". I brought my outback in for a AC problem . Found bad condensor. Work done no issue. Started hearing knocking noise when braking or going over bumps within a week of the condensor replacement which I could not find myself. Finally made a service appointment and they found that the horn fell off and charged $158.99 to reinstall. Just a coincidence right after condensor replacement. I don't think so. At the same time they said they will do a multi point inspection at no charge (which they do everytime you bring in your car). When I picked up the car I found a BLANK multi-point inspection form which tells me they did'nt even do it. When I showed the form to the sales advisor I was told "sorry about that you should be fine". That for me was the ultimate "I don't care answer" . I have now decided to take my business somewhere else. Who knows maybe after purchasing 6 Subaru's it's time to look at other options. I can honetly say that the service department had there act together better "Before " they remodeled the delership.

Never going back!

Tried to book an appointment to get my car detailed and the girl on the phone was extremely rude. When I asked what time I had to be there she said come when we open, I asked her what time that was again she didn't respond for awhile and then said 8am. I then asked if I would get a rental since that was what I was told when I went in to get my oil change. She said yes and hung up on the phone on me. Noy sure what happend there so I tried calling twice with no answer. I then called again on Monday to change my appointment since I now had to work that day. When I called to change it, they now told that there was never an appointment made for me originally and also that there was no rentals for me until possible next week. I would have to go on a waiting list. This is now the 4th time that this dealership has let me down! This whole experience along with the other times I had to deal with this dealership have been a nightmare. I will never again come here nor will I ever shop Subaru again in my life! Do yourself a favor and really read the narrative reviews on google. They are 100% right!!

Liberty Subaru - Rock Solid!

I purchased a 2018 Forester from Liberty Subaru last month. My experience with Elmer and his staff (Charles Perchak) was nothing short of first rate. They are very patient with indecisive buyers (like myself), and they shoot straight with competitive pricing. No question in my mind they genuinely hold customer satisfaction in the highest regard. The worst customer service I’ve experienced in years. Better to avoid.

I had damage to fuel lines in my car by rodent. The initial estimate was 1,200+. After my insurance got involved estimate went down to 800+. My insurance company order parts shipped overnight, but car stuck for additional 5 days in repair shop. Subaru blamed everybody, and lie to Insurance Company that I did not pick up car at the time it was repaired. The result – extra charges for rental. Ask to get back damaged fuel lines – never received them. As a cherry on the pie, I got back my car with birds' droppings with the excuse "Car wash is broken".

Pass 4 Other Subaru Dealers to Go There

Other dealerships are closer but will only go Liberty Subaru. NO high pressure. Elmer Hansen great to work with. No last minute surprises in finance office. Give Elmer a try before you buy!

Never repeat

A pretty bad experience all the way around. Extreme high pressure sales. Way over priced the vehicle no matter what we agreed on they somehow managed to gouge the price back up. They poured on meaningless extras at exorbitant prices. Like Finnish insurance that had to meet impossible criteria. Then the final insult. The interest rate of 10.5% back in 2014. I probably overpaid by $10,000 on a new, one year old Imprezza. The car as delvered was not equipped like the car I thought I selected.

out of towner - treated like family

I brought my 2014 Forester in for a oil change and tire rotation. The service writer Kyle was very friendly, and efficient - and very happy with the whole service experience at Liberty Subaru - for being an out of towner, you never know how you would be treated since I will probably never be back for service, but I might as well been a long time customer - or family member - highly recommend this subaru service department!!

Disappointing experience

Everyone was very nice and willing to help when we went to the dealer to test drive and get more information on the car. In the end, they could not match the quote we received from another dealer even though we were returning customers. That was really disappointing. A plain flat "can't do it", not even a "let see what we can do". I felt they weren't really interested in selling us a car. We didn't really deal with the internet person, not sure why. The salesperson we had seen took over. May be that made the difference.

Overall good experience

Purchased a Kia Sorento from this dealership in May. Overall, got a great deal, but I felt like I really had to fight for it and the purchase process was far from perfect. If I didn't know what I was doing and exactly what I wanted to pay for the car, I would have gotten taken advantage of. Internet Consultant and Sales consultant were not on the same page, which wasted my time.

I have left 3 messages (2 during business hours and one after) to attempt to make an appointment and discuss a safety concern with my Kia and they refuse to call me back. Apparently, their business is so good, they don't need customers. Another reason to stick with the local service shops.

Great experiance, no preasure tactic, the best ever

Great dealership. Not the best looking from the outside, but the professional service is the one of a kind, which matters the most. There is no pressure used buy any of the sales people. Very straight forward. I have been buying cars in the past, and always felt that dealerships are anything but honest, but I must reconsider that. I am serious. The price was the best possible and service amazing. Bob Yanca is a salesperson with 11 years of experience, and a great guy to work with. Explained everything, and made me feel like a valued customer. The only thing negative was the finance department that had hired outside company do the finances for them this week while other guys were on vacation. I am sure this will be much better once their guys come back. Once again this is the best Subaru dealership in Chicago land area.

Emergency repair done by flashlight!

It was snowing quite badly in Northern Illinois. Enough snow fell on my windshield wipers to disengage the linkage. I hurried into Liberty Auto City to get it fixed only to find out that the same snow storm had wiped out their power. Knowing I couldn't get very far without wipers in near blizzard conditions, the service personnel were kind enough to fix my car despite their lack of power, lights, etc. Thanks guys!!!!

Good people, professional and willing

I came to Liberty Auto with a complaint that was not solved by another dealer, MY dealer. What my dealer could not recognize, or hear, or was simply not willing to acknowledge --- was noticed 3 minutes into the test drive with Liberty's chief mechanic. A faulty part was needing replacement. They ordered the part and a week later I was back in, and out in one hour. This is one professional and trustworthy dealership. I'd rather drive 45 minutes to Librty Auto, then trust my own dealer, right in my own neighborhood...
