Great car … HORRIBLE DEALERSHIP!

by Corey Wolfe on 06/12/2021

First of all I want to say how much I love mazdas. This is in no way “buyers remorse”. I have wanted a Mazda for years, I just did not want to be ripped off when buying one. The men at Hawk Mazda are a deceptive bunch to say the least. I bought a 2021 mazda 3 select (which is a trim level above the base model). The advertised price was $23,275. (I have a screenshot of the exact vehicle advertised on their website). I sit down with the salesman Ernie and he writes up a draft of the numbers. It all seemed fine and so I went ahead into the finance department. I signed the paperwork and left with my new car. When I got home and looked over the contract my stomach dropped. The cash price for the vehicle on the contract was $27,200. Thinking that was a bit much [it is] I started looking at other dealerships and no Mazda 3 select package comes even remotely close to that price. Then I see on the contract $1,400 for a “mazda vsa”. Since the dealership had zero answers for me for three days about the extra $4,000 that was tacked onto my vehicle I decided to call mazda directly to inquire about this $1,400 mazda vsa. It turns out that this dealership (without telling me and without my consent) purchased me an extended warranty. I bought a brand new car with a warranty. I would have NEVER bought an extended warranty nor do I need one. So after three days of getting the run around from this dealership I was finally told that the extra $4,000 was for a “protective coating” that they put on my car for dings and scratches. How in the world they can tack on $4,000 for something as RIDICULOUS as that without telling a customer is beyond me. I’m sorry but for $4,000 I want my car to levitate to protect against dings. If you want a Mazda I would go elsewhere. They are beautiful cars but it is not a good experience to be railroaded by [non-permissible content removed]. The amount of work I have to do for that money is sickening. We are all not fortunate enough to sit and swindle people out of $4,000. Stay away from Hawk Mazda or ANY Hawk dealership for that matter. I financed $28,000 and put down $4,000. I am in $32,000 deep for a mazda sedan a trim level above a base model. I know that these people respond to negative reviews so let me be clear. These people are [non-permissible content removed] and have not helped me one bit.

Amazing experience at Hawk Mazda

by Rush21 on 08/13/2015

It was an absolute pleasure purchasing a new car through Hawk Mazda in Joliet, IL. Dan McCarthy was easy going, extremely knowledgeable, and got me a great deal on a brand new Mazda 3. After having test driven the vehicle several times and having decided on it, he made the negotiation process smooth and painless. The business manager was also on top of his game as it took almost no time at all to go through all the paperwork. A few weeks went by and I was called up out of the blue and offered another incentive that was originally missed, AFTER the deal was complete that saved me even more in my monthly payments. Granted, the incentive started the day I purchased the car, but the fact that I was contacted and given that incentive after the car purchase was a very welcome gesture. This has been the best car buying experience of my life. Hawk Mazda has an excellent reputation and after having done business with them, I now understand why. I had been to other dealers in the Chicagoland area, where I was put off by pushy salesman who were frequently calling me at home. This wasn’t the case at Hawk Mazda. The folks here are consummate professionals and I would recommend them to anyone looking to buy a car.
