I initially met with Joe Calabrese in August '14 to look at a Terrain for my wife. We lease her cars and the price of the Terrain for what it had didn't meet her/our expectations so we went with another vehicle at the time. I owned a 2011 Toyota Tundra of which I randomly brought into a different dealer to get an appraisal on. I was looking for a 2012 Pathfinder (since the new ones look like minivans). After I started looking at comparable models the Acadia came up but at the price points I thought I'd never be able to afford it. So I went back to see Joe and although I burned him in the past he got me setup with an unbelievable deal for both my trade-in and the Acadia that I wanted. He even helped me to get upgraded from what I initially looking at. I read some of the negative reviews about the dealer and it's unfortunate, however, where there's bad there is also good. In my case I had a great experience and the car is sweet. I highly recommend going to this dealer and seeing Joe Calabrese.

Rebate benefits Dealer and not Customer

I like my new 2014 GMC Terrain that I purchased on 08/09/2014, but I would not buy a vehicle from this dealership again. Reason, the two Sales & Finance people (John Kk & Rob S) did a last-minute financial switcharoo on me, without verbally telling me about it. During initial negotiations with John K on 08/04/2014, the available $1000.00 rebate was neither mentioned to me nor written down on the initial "Vehicle Purchase Agreement", in the "Buyer Credits" section, where I agreed to finance $23,849.00 with Buyer Credits totalling $9500 ($3500 Trade-In, $6000 Down payment) and a total purchase price of $30,090. Unbeknownst to me 5 days later, when the vehicle was delivered, the $1000.00 rebate was mysteriously added to buyer credit (total down payment) section on "Retail Installment Contract", which is correct, but the $1000.00 rebate was also added to the "Total Purchase Price", thereby, increasing the "Total Purchase Price" instead of reducing the "Amount Financed". That meant my rebate benefited the dealer and not me, the customer. The "Amount Financed" should have been reduced by $1,000.00 to $22,849.27 from $23,849.27 because the total down payment (buyer credits) now equals 10,500.00, and the "Total Purchase Price" should not have changed. The $1000 rebate issue was the dealer's fault for hiding it from me initially and then sneaking it in later by adding it to the "Total Purchase Price" (increasing it) instead of reducing the "Amount Financed". That was flat-out dishonest. I have talked to two people at Ettleson GMC (John K on 08/21/2014 and someone else ? on 08/23/2014) about the $1000 rebate issue, and they both tried to talk around the issue, and John K said he would call me back, and I have not heard a word from him since. In summary, I entered that dealership knowing exactly what I wanted and put down earnest money to prove that, without ever changing my mind, thereby, making the Selling process extremely easy for this dealer. In return, the dealer gives themselves my $1000 rebate by increasing the Total Purchase Price without verbally telling me, and they expect a pat on the back (a.k.a. positive reviews) just because I like the vehicle. It is the same thing as if I unknowingly dropped $1000.00 on the street, and a salesman saw me drop it, and knows it belongs to me, but instead of returning it to me, the salesman picks it up and keeps it.

Service Dept has more integrity than Sales Dept

My recent experience (08/15/2014) with Service Dept and Tony W. was very positive. I had a 1.25" trailer hitch installed on my new 2014 GMC Terrain. I called in advance and Tony W. had ordered the part so that it was ready in stock for my service appointment. While it was pricey, Tony W. did provided me an honest and accurate quote of how much it would cost ahead of time so that there would be no surprises. Tony W also searched for possible recalls, just in case. Service lounge was better than expected. I only wish the Sales Dept was trustworthy like the Service Dept. (See my separate review on Sales Dept).

$1000 Rebate benefited dealer instead of customer

I like my new 2014 GMC Terrain. However, during negotiations with John K., the available $1000.00 rebate was not mentioned to me, and it was not added to my initial agreement in the "Buyer Credits" section where I agreed to finance $23,849.00 with Buyer Credits totaling $9500. Unbeknownst to me 5 days later, when the vehicle was delivered, the $1000.00 rebate was mysteriously added to buyer credit (total downpayment) section on "Retail Installment Contract", but the $1000.00 rebate was added to the "Total Sale Price" instead of reducing the Amount Financed. The "Amount Financed" should have been reduced by $1000.00 to $22,849.27 from $23,849.27 because the total downpayment (buyer credits) now equals 10,500.00. Not to mention, I felt like my trade-in was worth $4500 instead of $3500. The reason given, was that the "timing chain may need service in the future because it was never serviced". That is because there is nothing wrong with the timing chain, and the vehicle's value should be based on the vehicle's current condition--not that it may get struck by lightning sometime in the future. Overall, I felt like I paid $2000.00 too much by receiving $1000 less for Trade-in and not receiving $1000 Rebate in "Amount Financed"). The $1000 for the Trade-in was my fault for bad negotiation, but I did not like their reason. The $1000 rebate issue was the dealer's fault for hiding it from me initially and sneaking it in later by adding it to the "Total Sale Price" instead of reducing the "Amount Financed." That was flat-out dishonest.

We bought a 2006 pontiac g6 from this dealer because we wanted the gm guarantee.After getting it home, the brakes started squealling with a very high pitch,found the dome light had a short in it, the cd player didnt work, the visors were both loose and the front end started shaking when the car was braked at 30 mph.When I contacted the GM at ettlesons and asked to get a refund the next day I was rudly told NO!When I suggested we get a diffenrent vehichle, he told me they had a year to fix the car.Our first trip to get the brakes fixed had them cutting the rotors and saying the problem was fixed.I then asked to drive with the mechanic riding with and showed him that the squeaking was still there.At this time I asked him about the 117 point preinspection program GM CERTIFICATION and this cars problems.He said he had not seen this car before and if the inspection was done all of these things should of been found.When I confronted Chris, the salesmen, about this he swore up and down that the dealer "spent money on this car" and 'the 117 point inspection was done".We are in the middle of this saga right now as of 6-29-10 and 2 days ago the cars electronics went haywire.At this time we took it into [another dealership] in Elgin.They replaced the main moduale for the computer on the car and we went home.car electronics symptoms were: door locks going up and down,radio,lights and fuel pump going on and off all while the car is off.Three hours later the moduale fried again and the electronics went off again.Took it back to [other dealership] and its been there since.I talked with several people there including the general manager who pulled up the vehicles service record which showed numerous past problems including having a lifter replaced and anti-theft wiring replaced.They are suspecting the anti-theft wiring has something to do with the module problem.The gm listened to my story and steered me in the right direction.According to the GM CERTIFIED VEHICLE , the customer has 3 days/150 mile customer satisfaction guarantee.When confronted on the second day after purchase their general manager said there was no such guarantee and we couldnt bring the car back.When we said we did have that right he said to get a lawyer!At this point we can get no where with ettlesons as far as a refund and we live 50 miles away.Because they worked on the brakes, no other GM dealer will touch them under the warranty so we have no choice but to take a day off work to take it in there.This car was suppose to be certified but that wasnt possible with all the problems.When we looked for the certificate it wasnt in the paperwork.We dont remember getting it with the paperwork but were told it was certified.When the salesman was called today he said he wasnt aware that the customer was suppose to get a copy of that.According to the GM at [other dealership] that is a must.Furthermore, if they didnt do the inspection and fix all problems , they were in breah of promise which means they should refund our money.As soon as that car left the dealership we have had nothing but headaches, poor service except for [other dealership] and we are stuck with a lemon.We are looking for a full refund as we dont ever want to have to see this dealership again. Your Desired Resolution: We need another car but do not wish to deal with ettlesons as they have done nothing but lie to us.They were able to get the brakes to stop squeaking only after i pointed out they were still squeaking and they took it in the back and sprayed them with silcone spray i suspect.When asked point blank, the managers of used car sales promised they were not sprayed and he garanteed they would not squeak the next day.The next day--the brakes squeaked! These people are [violative content deleted] and we wish neverto have to deal with them again!With everything thats happened and whats wrong with the car, we feel we deserve a full refund so we can go purchase a car from a reputable dealer.
