onWe didn't buy a car today as we were ONLY seeking to drive a couple of models in order to narrow our decision making. NOT the thing any salesman wants to hear when they walk out into the lot and see a family drive up in a 12 year old vehicle. I'm sure he looked at our car and thought his weekend would start out great because "these people needed a new ride". We were very clear from the get go what our goals were for the hour and the salesman was so kind and accommodated our request. When we got home both my husband and I talked about how Wonderful Mr. Ben Heyward was and how much we appreciated his demeanor and understanding of what our goals were. I swear, we feel as though we will probably wait to purchase a car until the one we want is on his lot. After 40 years at Southern Motors, he was so knowledgeable, easy going, sweet and not "used car salesman like at all. When you only buy a car every 12 years or so, you absolutely DREAD doing it. So... bottom line. If you are going to buy a car, don't let the older exterior of the dealership fool you. They have been there for so long for a reason. And if you ask for a salesman, ask for Mr. Ben Heyward. He was a pleasure!

Shady Promotion and Sales Practices

onWas drawn into this dealership with a mailer that promised a cash prize of $100 for coming in. I did not read the fine print which apparently stated that matching the $100 prize on the mailer didn't guarantee that particular prize... just A prize. In this case it was a voucher for pizza. I was in fact looking to purchase a vehicle within the next few weeks, and I understand the mailers are made to get you in the door (just hopefully not under false pretenses) so I let that bit of shadiness slide and said I would take the voucher and discuss what they had available. Instead I was told that the vouchers weren't there yet and I would have to wait, but in the meantime I could look at vehicles. Gut feeling was I was being railroaded even though I would have looked at vehicles after getting my "prize". As I was walking out, disgusted by the way they were treating me, the salesman said for me to wait to see if the pizza coupon "situation had changed" (in the last few minutes?!). I was done at that point and called back later to let the salesman know that if they wanted my business they would do what was right and simply mail me the coupon since it wasn't my fault that they didn't have them when I was there. He said he would talk to his manager and get back to me. That was a week ago, and no word from them. The worst part of car buying to me is the game playing the dealers feel they have to do to get the sale. I refuse to do business with businesses like that.
