A scary purchase turned out good

by A new car purchase on 09/11/2020

We recently bought a new car from them and while we initially had some trouble with the car's check engine light coming on the day we drove it home, Larry the GM made it right the next day by swapping out the car for another one to give us peace of mind. They also beat almost every VW dealer in the area in terms of price. It was my first VW purchase and while initially scary, they made it right and I thank them for that and putting my mind to ease.

Very poor customer service & no resolutions even after an year of follow-up

by Gokul Mohandas on 03/11/2020

Below is a detailed experience of buying my first car with VW of Marietta. I am willing to submit call records & email threads if anyone doubts these details. (TL:DR- Bought a poorly maintained CPO car on APRIL 30, 2019, which violated several CPO inspection checks but was passed anyway. Did not receive any proper warranty or maintenance documents. Dealership broke the windshield & promised to replace with within a week, which they finally did after a month. Has multiple signs of rear backing accidents. Did not come with the Valet-Key used for locking & unlocking the car. As of March 11, 2020, these problems are unresolved, Dealer has ignored multiple emails & calls and has also blocked my cellphone number. I would NEVER in the slightest off chance recommend VW of Marietta or Jose Luna to anybody because this is customer service at its lowest.) I had talked to Jose (Joe) Luna, the Internet Sales Manager regarding a Certified Pre-Owned 2018 VW Passat SE with Tech and agreed upon a price. I go to the dealership on APRIL 30, 2019. The dealership is solid 3.5 hours drive from my house. Me & my friends reached there around 2:30 PM. I had mentioned this to Joe so that he realizes that I come in with an intention to drive back with the car and would like to get back as soon as possible, being the middle of the week. However, when I got there, Joe was absent & I was pleasantly handled by Misha Atanasova (Sales Consultant). The car however was pretty dirty both from outside and inside with dust & bird droppings on the car as well as shoe prints & oil stains inside. Misha told us that the car was not detailed. This really put a bad impression on me. When I inspected the car, I found that there were couple of scratches on the front bumper and rear bumper and also on plastic in the interior. I had bought all this to the notice of the sales person and was assured that these scratches were going to be buffed out. After I worked out the paperwork on the car, I waited for the car to be detailed. When I inspected the car again, the scratches on the inside were gone but ones on the outside were not. Moreover, the windshield of the car got cracked because of some accident during detailing. Also, there was dirt which was uncleaned inside the hood, behind the rims and inside corners of the doors. The car had to be again sent for detailing. This took way longer than I expected because I wanted to leave the dealership at 5 PM for me to reach my home on time. But it was already 7 PM and we were still waiting for the car. Because I came to the dealership directly after I reached Atlanta, me and my companions were pretty tired and hungry and were getting really impatient. After final detailing with my presence, most of the dirt was washed out. However, the scratches on the bumpers were still there. I talked to the person detailing it, who was kind enough to explain to me that these scratches have to be repainted. At this point I had already been through the paperwork and was just waiting to collect the car. If I knew these scratches had to be repainted, I would have renegotiated the price of the car with these imperfections in consideration. At this point, I wanted to drive the car and get back home as soon as I can, hence I did not have the time or patience to go through the car again and when the sales representative asked for my opinion, I could not do anything other than accepting it for what it is. After which she refueled the car and we drove off. This was close to 7:50 PM. We could not go for lunch or dinner fearing that the dealership will close by the time we return. This morning, when I inspected the car in better light before I left for work, I noticed a deep dent below the right door with a scratch and a cracked chrome piece on the rear bumper indicating the car hit something like a STOP sign while backing. This would require a significant amount of labor to fix and should have been fixed from the dealership’s end being a CPO vehicle. I do not understand how the vehicle passed CPO inspection with these problems. I felt dissatisfied at this point because I trusted the dealership, that the car would be detailed properly. Moreover, I could not drive the car with the risk of being pulled over for the cracked windshield. Another thing I noticed was the car did not come with factory Maintenance & Warranty Booklet as well as other literature related to infotainment & GPS, nor did I get the “Valet-Key” which is used for locking & unlocking the glove box. Finally, after multiple follow-ups & the dealership trying to hand me a cheaper 3rd party windshield & failing, the windshield was replaced on MAY 31, 2019 with the OEM part, exactly a month after I bought the car. The car was practically unused for this period due to safety reasons & still the broken trim issues, scratches, inability to lock glovebox & no warranty and maintenance documents were unattended. Over a period of next couple of months, I frequently tried contacting VW of Marietta & Jose Luna multiple times regarding these issues. I have tons of ignored emails, false promises that “it would be sent the coming week”, putting my calls on hold indefinitely, redirecting me to a voicemail, and then finally them literally blocking my email & cell phone number! Finally, on JANUARY 07, 2020, I was able to reach Jose Luna with my friend’s cell phone number pretending to buy a car. When I finally talked to him, he said that he had mailed some package with unknown contents at my house but nobody was present to receive it. Mr. Jose Luna did not send me any form of prior intimation that he would be sending any package nor did he send me a tracking number. He expects, I leave my day-job and sit on my doorstep waiting for his package which he never bothered telling me when he shipped or when I should receive it. I ask him to send it again to a new address which he said he would but never did. As of now the time I am writing this review which is MARCH 11, 2020, I have not received any kind of follow-up on my concerns. I still have the broken trim, scratches & keyless glovebox which cannot be locked. Also, my cell-phone number is still blocked!
