Illegal advertising of tax amount

by amarone on 08/11/2015

We were buying a used car and the tax line item in their quote seemed high to us compared with other quotes we had, although we had not had a quote for this specific model of car elsewhere. We queried the tax and were told that it is out of their control and they just look it up on a Georgia government web site. Two and a half hours later we finally got to the point of buying the car (after they refused to take a check on an investment account because the check number was "too low"). On the bill of sale the ad valorem tax had been reduced by $400 and a separate line item added for "Cap Jen registration". The finance manager said that he simply split out the taxes into their components. After leaving the dealership I did some research. Cap Jen is a company registered at the same address as Kia Mall of Georgia. It has nothing to do with taxes - it is more money for the dealership. The following day I returned to the dealership and informed them that what they did is illegal and in contravention of the Fair Business Practices Act and I wanted my $400 back or I was making a complaint to the office of Consumer Protection. They immediately refunded the money without further comment. Beware of this place.

Illegally charging extra fees and overcharging for tax

by lilolme1 on 06/26/2015

BEWARE In the state of GA it's illegal for a dealer to charge "extra fees" (on top of an advertised price) but your tax tag and title. The dealer fee and all other fees must be included in the ad price. This company advertises what seems to be the lowest price online to get peoples attention. But when you go, they charge a $499 "dealer fee", and on top of that $895 for what they call "destination", something they call "CapJen", AND on top of that they illegally and purposely overcharge on the state title ad valorem tax(GA TAVT). This isn't even all of it, just what I can remember. They do this very deceptively but not showing you a break down of all the charges when they present you figures. When I asked for it, I noticed an extra $1,200 onto the tax making it more than what it should be (7%). (You can got onto Google(GA TAVT) and easily see what the tax is hello. I called them out and they take it off with the old (oops), it was an honest mistake line. But they turned around and just added it back onto the finance side. The sales person would not discuss interest rate or payment with me which I found odd. When I went into finance there came all these extra charges again. They had them built into the payment. When I did the math they had about 3,000 in extras out of nowhere. Again not showing break down unless you insist. They then tell you this charge is for a special coating we put on the paint and this is for that etc etc. They added a bunch of extra stuff I didn't want trying to pass it off. When I told I didn't want any of that and told them it was illegal to charge these fees they treated me very rudely. I bet my bottom dollar this company routinely preys on unsuspecting customers with deceptive, not to mention illegal practices. They claim to be a faith based family owned dealer too. It's disgusting. Most people don't know about this but here is the link for your to see for yourself: http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/story/22136233/local-car-dealerships-adding. You can calculate the tax by Google (GA TAVT). For new cars you ad the rebate and trade value and there you have the tax. Do they think people don't know this, or about the law here in GA. I've bought many cars before and know what to expect. These people bait and hook you with these low "internet prices" and when it's time to buy they jack up the bottom line by thousands by adding all of these extra fees. You end up paying more than a dealer that's straight forward with their pricing to begin with. Don't fall for the tons of good reviews from people that most likely didn't know and thought they got a good deal. Most likely fooled by a low advertised prices. They claim to be a faith based dealership yet try scam people out of their hard earned money and then treat you like your scum when you call them out. I recommend buying from another dealer. Those "low" advertised prices are just a lure.

Highly Recommend!

I purchased a used vehicle from Kia Carland two nights ago. I could not be any happier with the car and the customer service I received from the staff at Kia Carland. I worked with Kathi, Jerome, Charles and Kip and found all four to be incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and reasonable. The car I purchased was already priced very fairly and would have been a good deal even if I had bought it at ask price. Of course I negotiated and with the final out the door price I really feel like I got a great deal on a great car. The next day I had had it inspected at a different dealership and they found NO fault with the car. I was expecting them to find something even if just to upsell me on getting a service done, but it passed inspection with flying colors and I was told to simply keep up with routine maintenance. Thank you to Kia Carland! I highly recommend this dealership.

Great experience with a great dealership

by jponder on 02/08/2012

I purchased my 2012 Kia Sportage LX AWD in November 2011. This is our first time ever owning anything other than a Ford or Chevy. My husband and I had gone to 3 other dealerships and quickly figured out this was the dealership where we wanted to make our purchase. Our salesman was very professional, friendly and did not try to pressure us into anything we did not want. I hightly recommend Kia Mall of GA for all your Kia needs!

I pulled into this dealer on my way to the Toyota dealer down the road. I stopped because they had two vehicles out front with prices lower than the one I was going to see. As soon as we started talking to the salesman he said that the price was only there to get us in to the lot and that it would actually be higher. I tried several times to get Nick and then the finance manager to knock off the extra $500.00 but they both ignored me. The finance manager tried to sell me an extended warranty and gap insurance and I was willing to accept the warranty but did not want the gap insurance. He offered both at a reduced price and he would also reduce my interest rate. The gap insurance was reduced but not the extended warranty and the interest rate was not enough to make much of a difference, about .25%. I bought this vehicle on August 25th and on August 27th I refinanced it with State Farm for a better rate and have been trying to get the gap insurance refunded since. We were told to fax proof that the other loan was paid then they would refund the money. The contract states that I can cancel at any time. I have also made several calls about getting my tag and I have been getting the run around about that. They told me I have to call the Dodge dealer and talk to Celeste and when I talked to her she said to call back the next day because they were processing the tag. This was last Tuesday, Sept. 15 and I have called everyday since then only leaving messages because Celeste is not taking any calls. She has not returned my calls and they have not emailed my paperwork as promised. I have 4 days left to get my tag. I also drove off the lot and after about 10 miles the tire pressure monitoring system light came on and I thought it was probably because the tires were warm and the pressure was too high. When I returned home I checked the pressure, I checked again in the morning when the tires were cold. The pressure is fine and the light is still on. I called and spoke with Nick, my salesman and he told me that my pressure was probably off but I had already checked and the pressure was fine and the manual said it was a malfunction. I live 87 miles away from this dealer and do not feel right taking it to another dealer for this. Although I will but feel that I ahve been giving the run around since the beginning. I sent a complaint to the B. B. B. and they responded with it seemed that I was complaining about the price and the dealer has the right to charge any thing they want. My complaint was that the advertised price and the price they charged was not the same.

Excellent Experience !!!!

by ceev on 02/21/2009

I have been looking for an SUV off and on for a while, while surfing the Internet I found that they have a used SUV recently listed for sale with low mileage. Since the information on the Internet was not detailed, I decided to drive to the dealership to see the vehicle. When I got there Peter Milner greet me and asked him the information about this vehicle. An excellent SUV in great condition & fully loaded. My husband later came to the dealership and we negotiated the price with not pressure at all. I asked Peter about the SUV history and later asked him for a car fax. Everyhting matched with the car fax history. We were already pre-approved with State Farm. Kia Mall of GA gave us a better rate and the financing guy ( Sonny ) was really nice . Overall one of our best experiences buying a vehicle. Our sales consultant Peter Milner was Awesome and truly recommend him.

Ignorant, Deceitful sales people, rude, unconcened managment

by buzzpoet on 01/27/2008

Had multiple issues. I was first assisted by Ricardo who seemed pretty clueless. Justin then jumped in and helped show me some minivans. He told me they had a bunch of used Sedonas come in recently because they were all loaners to Kia executives. I later found out on a carfax report that the vehicle I purchased was a rental vehicle from Colorado. It had been rented 10 times. The floor manager offered more than $1k less than blue book (trade-in) value for my trade in, and he couldn't really explain why he was offering that figure. After 3 rounds of negotiations, I got him to give me an additional $1k. During the purchase process, I had to run home to get additional paperwork because we were putting the van in my wife's name and she couldn't be with me that day. They let me take the van to do it. I discovered a tail light had a piece missing and was cracked (it was hard to see). I brought up the issue with Ricardo who agreed to speak to the manager. They did eventually send me a replacement. I also mentioned there was no owners manual in the van and the side view mirror was damaged on the outside edge (it was obvious someone scraped it up against a wall). Ricardo said "oh, sure we'll take care of it - I'll speak with the manager tomorrow about also sending you those things" (I offered to replace the part myself to avoid driving back and waiting). A week went by and I hadn't heard back, so I called and spoke with Justin who said I had to speak with Ted Sykes, manager of used car sales. I left a message for Ted. Never heard back. Left another message, didn't hear back. Left 4 messages. My wife called and got in touch with Ted, explained the situation, and he said "we couldn't have promised you these items", and "Ricardo no longer works here". We escalated to the GM of the dealership who was very rude and basically told us the same thing. He went so far as to say - "we sent you a $500 tail light replacement, we thought that would make you happy. There's nothing else I can do for you". Umm - that tail light cover wasn't $500 - maybe $30 tops. We're right now trying to get in touch with the owner of Kia Mall of Georgia. ..but I have little hope anything will ever be done. This didn't have to be a big deal - they could have been up front in telling me the origin of the vehicle and provided the cheap replacement part to me (after all I had just bought a $14k car from them) and I would have provided them a glowing review. I would tell anyone considering buying a vehicle from them to reconsider, and steer clear of Kia mall of Georgia.
