Vehicle trade & purchase process

Each and every staff member I encountered was pleasant, outgoing and well dressed. The process to trade-in my vehicle was a breeze and so was finding and negotiating a deal for a Volvo model vehicle. I have no complaints since the two gentlemen that worked with me were fair, honest and willing to hear me out (and I am quite sarcastic and not always easy to deal with). This is my thirteenth vehicle purchase (2nd time to purchase a Volvo) and by far the easiest vehicle purchase transaction to date. Many thanks to Mr. Wilson Sojo and Mr. Chad Socha. Those two really put in work to make the deal happen.

Good service, poor transportation choices

Beware! Even if you buy your car from McDonald Volvo, when you take it for scheduled service, don't expect full transportation home/work. They only have one loaner car and it's out a month to get it. They do offer a Lyft ride but a max of $40 which only got me one way home but not enough to return to pick up the car after the service. I only live 20 miles away and at 8:30 AM the Lyft ride cost was $38.

Crooked and will not help after sale

My mom has been “not helped” by this dealer. Instead of trying to assist her, they have acted rudely throughout the process. I had to intervene and when I did, they got mad and refused to help. It’s gross and elder abuse.

Keep Your Guard Up. Think About Somewhere Else.

I bought a used Volvo about a month ago. It is my first and last experience buying from Volvo, based on my experience. Here's what you need to be aware of: (1) The A/C does not work on the driver side, although the car was advertised as having Air Conditioning. The response from the Used Car Sales Manager after I communicated the issue was the following, (this is a quote from him): "We would make sure this car blows cold air but not necessarily through all the vents." When he agreed to bring the car in to be checked, the service department identified a problem, but the Used Car Sales Manager refused to cover the cost because he felt there was nothing wrong, and that the A/C 'blows cold just not to your liking.' (Again, another quote from him.) They offered to pay for half of the repairs ($300 of maintenance within a week of purchase ... if they had responded to me then to fix a leak and recharge the system.) Again, this is the driver-side Air Conditioning that does not work, essentially meaning that the car can't be driven above a certain temperature outside because it is too hot inside. (2) The sales person I worked with told me on two separate occasions that the transmission had been service and/or rebuilt 'very recently' so I didn't have to worry about that. When I pressed him on specifics, he looked around and said he couldn't find the specifics, but new it was just done. When I called about the Air Conditioning the week I bought the car, and mentioned what felt like a kick in the transmission, he suddenly had the exact time the transmission was last serviced, which was 70,000 miles prior to the current mileage. Had he told me that originally, I would not have bought the car. I purchased a used car. I don't expect it to be perfect. But I went to what I believed to be a reputable dealer representing a respected brand, purposely avoiding 'corner' dealerships not associated with a brand. My experience with McDonald Volvo's sales department was that I was just another sucker that they pawned a car off on. To advertise Air Conditioning and then justify it not working is very shady and the entire discussion of the transmission feels like a lot of critical information given to misrepresent the reality of the situation. So ... beware. Whatever you're being told here may or may not be true ('the transmission was just serviced.') And whatever features - critical or not - that are advertised may not actually work 'to your liking' (as in the air conditioner might not work on the driver side and that is the customer's problem, not theirs). The standards here are obviously very low. Or possibly those are the standards of Volvo in general. Disappointing, because this has not been my experience when dealing with other brand dealerships. Unfortunately, McDonald Volvo follows no higher moral compass than a stereotypical huckster dealership. Buyer Beware should be in very large capital letters. I will say that their service people were very nice and helpful, but completely overshadowed by the Used Car Sales staff and management.

2004 Volvo XC90 Fuel Pump Issue

McDonald Automotive has always taken care of me. This particular repair was the subject of a recall for southern states XC90's that expired back in 2009. Even so, McDonald took care of the problem free of charge. They are truly an amazing dealership and they will have my continued business and future car purchases because of this service!

Solid Overall Experience

I started my dialog with Jeff Engquist online regarding a 2016 Volvo XC70 lease. I prefer to get 50% of the negotiating done online, ahead of time so they are no surprises. Jeff was helpful and courteous throughout the process, both online and in-person. What was discussed online was honored when I arrived and it was a friendly, low pressure sales experience. This alone set them apart from encounters Ive had with other dealerships in the past I did not feel like I was being nickeled and dimed. This is our first Volvo lease but wed not hesitate to return to McDonald Volvo, or any McDonald dealership in the future.
