Never Ever Again

by jbeltran004 on 04/10/2018

During little bit of time, I spent at this dealership I witnessed some the most unprofessional behavior I have ever seen when purchasing a good car. The manager acted as if he did not have time even though the people he was working with walked out on him. The salesman was condescending and did not even know his product. Then I met the desk manager who was the worst of the bunch. He assumed that I wanted a free appraisal. Little did he know that already had one in my pocket from CarMax. I just wanted to withhold until they valued it, so as not bias them into low balling me. In the end, I got pretty upset and had to demand my keys back in order to leave. It all worked out because I purchased my car in Glendale. The desk manager said he was number one in the country, but the ratings online to show that. Go somewhere else and save yourself the aggravation.

If I could rate zero stars I would.

by Shadow09 on 08/03/2017

I have reached out to this dealership multiple times now to ask questions about a vehicle i would like to purchase. I live pretty far from them and I do work a lot so I do not have time to be going over to this dealership just to get information. I have asked to deal with someone experienced and they keep emailing me the same crap over and over it's like they are machines preprogrammed to respond the same. They want you to come in no matter what. Why do they even have a e-mail or online portion of the business, is it just to get some information so they can keep bothering you to come in and test drive a car like it's some sort of special privledge they are giving only to you. They pretty much only want you to come in so they can try sucking as much money out of you as they can in person and then when they come to realize that your not one of those people they can do that with they don't want to deal with you and you leave and waste your time for a hour+. I have requested quotes from multiple other Subaru dealerships throughout southern California and this seems to be the only dealer that doesn't respond to requests. I also called them and at first they refused to give a quote saying that they can't give me a quote without running my credit first. Then they didn't even give me a full quote they just said it's the msrp + taxes and fees.

They sent me away TWICE

by ticketseller81 on 08/10/2011

Went to Kia Sherman Oaks in June to look at a Sorento and had a nice gentleman help us, but when I came back a few weeks later, a different experience. First off, the salesman told me they would not offer a trade, and I should go to a Carmax/Auto Trader type place to sell the car and come back. Several weeks later when I came back, I was told not only would they offer a trade, they didn't need to make as much there, so I would get a BETTER price than where he sent me. Same salesman, 2 completely different answers weeks apart. But once we seemed to agree on a price for the Sorento, I was lowballed badly on the trade-in. So the salesman tells me to go to Auto Trader AGAIN, sell the car, and come back to him. I went to the closest dealer to value my trade, and not only did they honor the online offer, they said it would be increased if I bought their make. While I was waiting for them to appraise the trade, I looked at their make and found a much better car for not that much more. I ended up buying a car I didn't know about, was not shopping for and am extremely happy with, and all because the appraiser lowballed my trade. I spoke to the salesman and told him, honestly, had the trade-in been the same as every other dealer offered, I would be driving his car instead of another. More or less, Kia Sherman Oaks lost a willing and ready buyer by lowballing a trade-in and sending me right to a dealer willing to treat me fairly. I find it interesting Kia Sherman Oaks has not responded to any reviews. Maybe their appraiser is simply echoing the attitude of the ownership and the entire dealership?

They Made It Fun!

by takerr0007 on 09/29/2010

I was "just looking" when I discovered, and fell in love with, the Subaru Tribeca. The dealership had to do some looking to get the exact model I wanted but they were persistent and finally found it. When I came in to do the paperwork, I was so excited and everyone there seemed genuinely excited, too. Even the finance manager seemed excited! Thet made buying my car fun!

A refreshing experience

by rkolan on 04/23/2010

I must say that I'm surprised about the negative reviews this place has received. I was unexpectedly delighted by my experience with this dealer. Over the years I have come to dread the car-buying experience, which has usually meant being descended on by an over-eager salesperson who tries very hard to sell me the vehicle rather than let the vehicle speak for itself. Then, when I've decided to buy, I end up tag-team wrestling with the sales staff and the managers until I'm pummelled into submission. Maybe it's me, but frankly, I like to take my time and consider my options and shop around a bit before I decide, test drive different makes and models, and ask questions of the sales people. I spent a couple of weeks online reading reviews of cars and making a short list of half a dozen cars to check out. I had already test driven 4 other hatchbacks and small SUVs. I was leaning toward a Mazda 3 Sport which drove great, but was reticent because its cargo area would have been cramped for my guitars and amps. When I stopped at Subaru Sherman Oaks, I looked around a bit, and I was surprised that no one came rushing over. Initially I was concerned, so I went inside and looked around and found a sales rep. I told him I was looking at a lot of cars and told him my needs. He let me take some measurements, showed me some features. I test drove an Impreza Outback Sport first, and it was okay. Then I took out the Forester. No contest. I drove great and responded better than the Impreza Outback Sport. I asked the saleguy why the larger car felt so much better to drive and he told me about the positioning of the engine and that there was an 18 pound difference in the weight of the 2 cars. That bit of trivia floored me. This guy knew the product. In earlier test drives the reps knew very little by comparison. At any rate, I told the guy I wanted to test drive a couple of other cars and asked him to be frank about how high pressure the sales manager was. He told me they didn't work like that. He said they show you the actual dealer invoice and then make a fair offer based on that. He showed me the list of cars they had at their storage facility and said if they didn't have the color and features I wanted they would trade with another dealer. I tried out a couple of other cars then called this guy back. The sales manager answered and told me it was the guy's day off but that I would call his cell. I got a call a few minutes later, then we discussed color and trim. He called back and said they had it in stock. I said I'll be in tomorrow. I went back the next day fully expecting to negotiate through a long list of add-ons and extra charges. Imagine my surprize when the young sales guy I'd been dealing with came over and said that they had run the numbers. He showed me the figures, and they were making an offer $200 above dealer invoice. When I read all the costs there were no add ons, no effort to talk me into fabric protection and all that. Just a bottom line that was lower than I would have settled for. Financing was a breeze. The only add on we discussed was an extended warranty. They mentioned that it was availabl but didn't push it. It was something I was considering anyway because twice before I had opted out and something costly went bad and I kicked myself for not having gotten one. They gave me 20% off on that. Bottom line? I found the entire experience refreshing and I decided that I much preferred their laid-back approach to the pressure I had felt at other dealers. I guess it was a win-win. I got a great car for the price I wanted and they made a sale.

Wandering around aimlessly

by kc_king on 04/01/2010

I went to Sherman Oaks Subaru about 1 month ago, ready to purchase an Outback 3.6. I was looking at a couple of the cars for about 30 minutes, even opening them up and sitting inside. During that time, many associates were just walking back and forth across the showroom, drinking sodas and eating snacks. One saleswoman was just sitting at her desk the entire time. There was nobody else shopping for cars while I was there. They just ignored me. I walked out and got in my car, but decided to go back and discuss the (non) sales-experience I just had. I went to the saleswoman at the desk and asked her if it was a sales tactic for customers to be completely ignored. I understand that customers don't want to be attacked the second they step in the showroom.. but it was terrible to not even have someone say "hello" during that 30 minutes. Her response, "Do you know how many people I come up to them and they say they are just looking?" I say, "I'm sure most of the people are still looking, but there are people like myself who are actually ready to buy a car." She says, "How am I supposed to know that? Are you sure you can even get financed?" Then I felt very insulted.. I was actually prepared to buy the car with a cashier's check. I informed her of this fact, and that her dealership had just lost an easy sale. She just glared at me, and said that there's always someone willing to buy the car, and it didn't bother her at all. Well, I'm glad that in this troubled time, they're doing so well that they don't have to care about their customers.. but hopefully this review will divert some of these sales to other dealerships where their managers and sales personnel take time to actually talk to their customers.

What a waste of time!

by airborneranger on 07/12/2009

I went into the dealership the last weekend of the month. They were pretty busy so it took a little while to get taken care of. When I finally go helped I was informed that they didn't have the Impreza that I wanted in stock, and then they referred me to another dealer. They told me to go to Shaver Subaru in Thousand Oaks. They didn't have it in stock either, but they were more than willing to track one down for me and give me a great deal. With how poor the car business is now a days, I can't imagine referring away business but it worked out in the end. Thank you Shaver Subaru for saving the day, and redeeming the Subaru brand.

BEST CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE EVER!!!

by caddyboy on 09/09/2008

I leased a new 2009 Subaru Legacy with Subaru Sherman Oaks on Labor Day weekend. The dealership was extremely busy with tons of customers- one couple was buying their second car from Subaru Sherman Oaks in the last 3 months. Even though the dealership was busy I was greated right away and told a salesperson would be right with me. I came in off of their LA Times newspaper ad and was pleasantly surprised at how easy the process was. They had multiple colors of the advertised vehicle in stock, there were no games and no pressure. Not only was the deal amazing but my salesperson Arik took the time to thoroughly explain how a lease worked (I have never leased a car before). After feeling more comfortable about leasing, choosing the color and car I wanted. They appraised my trade in and gave me exactly what I was looking for as a trade in value. Even though they were busy and I had to wait a little while to sign the paperwork with the Finance manager my salesperson always communicated what was going on and how long it was going to be. They had a really nice lounge upstairs with leather couches and a flatscreen tv for me to relax in while I waited. Once I was done signing the paperwork Arik went over everything in my new Legacy. Even took the time to program my garage door remote into my homelink system for me. The car was freshly detailed and had a full tank of gas. This was the easiest car buying experience I have ever had (Ive bough 15 new cars in the last 20 years).....almost as easy as going into Target to buy shampoo! Thanks Subaru Sherman Oaks!

Beware !

by serezhkin on 06/14/2008

I went to the dealership two times. First time was on Sunday before the Memorial Day. I went there around lunch and saw a bunch of customers wandering around helplessly. When I asked on of the guys on the floor to help me, he said he's not a salesman, and that all three salesmen are busy now. Ok, I thought, busy day, and left. Second time was on Saturday before Father's day. I go there and ask to test drive a car (It took five minutes for two salesmen sitting next to me to give me any attention). The guy asked me if I am buying today, and when he found out that I am here just to drive the car before I make the decision, he just told me to leave and come back when I am buying a car. What an [violative content deleted]! I'm never going to this dealership again ! Beware ! If this is the way they treat new customers, I can only imagine how they treat you when you come for service !
