Great car-buying experience

by dave4128 on 05/23/2013

I just bought a 2013 Prius from Capitol Toyota, and the experience was great. Andy N. was my salesman. He was very patient (I took a LONG time to evaluate and buy the car) and always helpful. Negotiating the purchase price for a car is never a joy, but it was pretty painless, and I paid a fair price. It appears Capitol does NOT do Internet quotes, but that is what it is. I think it costs them business, but that's their call. The sales and service staff were all great. I'll definitely recommend them (I guess I'm doing that HERE) and buy there again.

Waste of time

by suvsearcher3 on 03/25/2013

I tried over and over to get an internet quote on a specific car very popular car and each time got evasive answers. Then, when my wife finally went into the dealership, the internet sales guy kept asking where her husband was, as if she was incapable of making an intelligent decision. Just horrible

"thanks for wasting my time"

by ChanduPen on 02/28/2013

Sales is a tough job. Its not always possible to get what a customer asks. But there are better ways to say NO than 'thanks for wasting my time". I spoke to john Nguyen Internet sales person & I have issues with him. Infact I would give him a 4 star rating. Went to the dealership John's not available another sales person approached me. I took no more than 5mins of his time. I drove prius before so all i was looking for was a good deal on base model. His price for Prius 22988.. I asked for $22500 he tried to intimidate & uttered this "thanks for wasting my time" I felt really cheap walking out of his office. Not for long though... with in 2 hrs I went to another toyota dealer & signed a prius for 22,000. Same model , year & make.

by judala on 11/26/2012

I just bought a 2012 Prius V from Captiol toyota and paid in total what others offered without tax and regitration. The sale was lowkey, straightforward and quick. I highly recommend checking them out first.

The worst dealership I've ever been to

by ba2 on 02/15/2012

This is one of those dealerships where they don't even hide the fact that they're going to try to take you for everything they can. They will lie, hide information from you, and pressure you into a purchase. The good news, in hindsight, is I avoided making a purchase there. That would have been a terrible mistake. But I suffered through a clingy, oily salesman and an unpleasant "owner" who tried to give me the runaround on a new car. Sadly, it turned me off from buying a Toyota at all, and I was very interested in a loaded Camry. If Toyota tolerates the shenanigans of dealers like this, I just can't justify giving them my business. Beware! Try another dealership (though as I mentioned, I won't be buying a Toyota at all thanks to the horrible experience I had here.

Dishonest!

by annreviewed on 02/11/2012

My husband and I went to Capitol Toyota for the End-Of-Lease purchase of our Toyota. We were surprised by the Manager Anthony Vu's insistence that we had to pay a $500 Safety Inspection fee to complete the sale. I wondered why I had not been given this information up front - when I specifically asked for the details on final costs for the car before coming in. My husband and I ended up leaving without completing the purchase because that fee did not sound right to us. I have done some research, and it turns out we are not required to have a Safety Inspection in the state of California: In the state of California, there is an exemption from these safety requirements regarding the sale of a leased vehicle by a dealer to a lessee if the lessee is in possession of the vehicle immediately prior to the time of sale and the vehicle is registered in this state. [Vehicle Code § 11713(i), Health and Safety Code § 24007(a)(3)] So, as is true with smog certification, if the former lessee is also the buyer, and if the vehicle is registered in California, the vehicle is exempt from a safety inspection by the selling dealer. BEWARE of Capitol Toyota and don't fall for this anywhere in California.

Disappointed

by johnng on 12/14/2011

I am very disappointed with the sale person. I made a offer $3000 below MRSP and the sale person told me that if I am not ready to purchase please don't waste his time and my time. He should starts the negotiating process and say, "Well your price is too low, I can't do it." and I am happy to raise my offer price. I ended up buying from another dealer.

Bought Siena LE 2011 ; Loving it

by dangsula on 11/11/2010

I am a internet customer. i did research to learn everything i need to know about the Sienna. Send out request for quotes on the Sienna. Capitol Toyota gave me the best deal the first time. No further haggle or negotiation on the price. The purchase experience at the dealer is very friendly and nice. Kudo's to Capitol Toyota on taking care of the customers well. The van feature provides a lot of useful features (starting with Siena V6 LE) like bluetooth handless call, door jam protection, ....a lot of useful safety feature to protect the kids. I think the voice recognition is great. Manufacture sound system is great .... i don't think stereo upgrade to JBL is necessary. 3 weeks into it, i enjoy the van & think highly of the dealer and its approach to taking care of customers before and after the you drive the purchased car off the lot. Of course, I am talking specific about Toyota internet team and not the over all departments. I am not sure if the experience for me was great because i am a knowledgeable (i know the Siena features well) customer. So do your homework and know what you want before you come to the dealer. The more you know the less things the dealer can sell you that you don't need :) The beauty is that all the info is on the internet.

BEST CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE @ Capitol Toyota in San Jose!!

by srusmantijo10 on 08/21/2010

I had read numerous reviews on Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander and various others : Subaru, Audi, Infiniti and Mazda. After making my minds on Pilot and Highlander and its options, I sent quote request through Edmunds and Costco. I got very competitive quotes from both Honda and Toyota dealerships in San Jose area. Finally settled on 2011 Pilot and went to the nearby dealership to trade it in.The Highlander was my 2nd choice, knowing that trading my 99 Land Rover could be a heart breaking experience (no values nor demands). Equipped with Edmunds info on MSRP, TMV and Costco and quotes from several dealership, I drove my trade in to Honda. After I showed them my target price, they lost interest and told me that they cannot give me the deal that I wanted (trade in value for my LR at $3K and ballpark figure on the new Honda). I thanked them and drove next door to Capitol Toyota. SALES EXPERIENCE In the process of reviewing and choosing the car, the sales person at Capitol Toyota (Quoc) was great. He took the time to show me the color combination that my wife was interested in. We test drove the cars and was shown all details, features and benefits. He gave us a ball park figure and they were all reasonable. I called him after I left the Honda dealership, and was told that the HL with the color that I wanted was not available - they were all sold out, but he promised that I'll get it the next day. So he processed the trade in, and all the necessary paperwork. The next day the car arrived from another dealership, my wife came to inspect the color for the final time and we signed all the paperwork. We process the bill of sale, called in the insurance while he took care of other paperwork and we were done in less than an hour. FINANCING MANAGER After that, we went to see the financing manager. He was extremely helpful and friendly. He offered additional maintenance service; Toyota offers 2 years free maintenance, with 45K optional. He explained the cost benefits and we took it. He also offered the extended warranty from 3yrs/36000 to 8 years/75000. He helped us getting the right financing and rebate. Given my wife excellent credit score, we were able to get those APR and rebate combination. It was an EXCELLENT deal. I have bought multiple cars in the past 15 years, and I must say that the buying experience at Capitol Toyota has been the best: - Sales Rep is knowledgeable and knows his cars. He showed us all the features and the color combination that my wife wanted - The financing manager helped us getting the excellent blend of APR and rebate, as well as options/add-ons for the cars. No pressure at all, all were presented honestly. If I were to rate my car buying experience from 1 to 5, I would rate them 6! I think we got a great deal on the car because: 1. I did my homework by reading Edmunds reviews on various cars that I was interested in. I narrowed down the selection (from the car model, exterior color/interior color combination, trim level). I followed up by test driving the cars to narrow down my selection. I also went to the specific car websites to get additional details. 2. Went back to Edmunds to get pricing breakdown ( MSRP, TMV, Costco). Edmunds sent request to those local dealerships; the pricing that I got from Edmunds are better than Costco, in my opinion. 3. Get your credit report done if you can. Having a good credit score helps you get a better financing rate. Shop around for car loan. If you need more details on this or have specific questions, send me email : [violative content deleted]

Excellent Transaction at Capitol Toyota

by mattnday on 05/27/2008

We worked with Rick Perez in the Internet Sales Department. We called him knowing that we wanted an advertised vehicle. He got us preapproved and the deal done before we ever left our house. We were in and out on a holiday weekend in under an hour. He was very gracious and even called us several time to verify our arrival and followed up by having our car ready for us. Finance was not a high pressure experience. They did not press for anything except gap due to our short term lease. Overall an excellent transaction and worth the 120 mile drive for the great deal on a Camry.

Don't know the product, don't care

by yatesjo on 01/28/2008

I stopped by Capitol Toyota to look at the Sienna after visiting the nearby Honda and looking at the Odyssey. The differences were dramatic. While not having salesmen breathing down my neck and putting the hard sell on me was nice, it went too far in the other extreme. Most of the vehicles were locked so there wasn't much chance to get a feel for the pros and cons of the van, and after poking around the supply of vans for more than 20 minutes a lone salesman wandered along to see on me and and another family loking around the same area. Unfortunately he didn't have a clue about the product and was more interested in showing me the Highlander and other SUVs. He could show me any features of the van and could not give any answer as to why I might choose the Sienna. I finally walked away with the impression that the Toyota wasn't much of a option.

Gave Competitive Price but ripped off through Extra Care and Alarm

by reachsan on 01/13/2008

They were able to match up the price but they ripped off with the extra money they cheated on the Extended Toyota Care and the Alarm System. They told the alarm system will be a free add-on when I buy the Toyota Platinum Extra Care and when I compared the price with other dealers I felt I had paid 900 more than the others just for the alarm system. When I tried to cancel the extra care, they said they can only cancel the warranty and the alarm system is already ordered and I cannot cancel it. Don't ever buy any additional warranty and packages when you buy the vehicle. If you need them, you can buy them later. Its a cheap trick the sales persons play on you.
