The folks at Kia Downtown LA lied to me and scammed me into leasing a used/returned car at full price. they didn't inform me of what they were doing, instead they rushed me through the paperwork requiring me to check all boxes and sign on the lines as if to say "you don't need to know the fine print. sign here." I didn't know any better, so I signed. Come to find out later that not only did the car have 1500 miles on it when I drove it off the lot, but the registration began for 3 months earlier than when I leased it. This is how I learned of this scam. When I called to confront them about it, they said, "Well, you signed, agreeing to this." HELL NO I wouldn't have if they had explained what I was signing. I would gladly have accepted it with the 1500 miles at a reduced price. But no, now I'm stuck with paying for a used car for full price. These people are slimy, awful human beings and they do not deserve your business or your time.

Irresponsible

by Sasha on 04/24/2019

I originally came here to have my 2016 Kia Soul worked on in the service department. As they were taking my car off the tow truck I had a salesperson talking my ear off if I ever thought about trading it in. I was considering because I was getting sick of the constant work I was having to put into a 3 year old car. Definitely was undecided about it and was just focused on trying to figure out when my car would be repaired and what was wrong with it. While talking to the service department, this man from sales came over and took my ID card from the service guy and said “Oh I’m just gonna make a copy of this!” I didn’t think anything of it. Then he came and asked me for my social and I was like “Wait why are you asking me for my social?” And he said it was a credit application and wanted to see if I would get approved for a new car for trade in. I told him I just want to see what was wrong with my car and how bad the issue was. He stood there talking nonstop how the repair was going to take forever and it probably wasn’t gonna be covered under warranty and it’s going to be a big hassle and why not just get a new car?! To shut him up I told him I would at least browse some cars while they were checking my car out. He told me they found an engine problem with my car and it would be months and months until I had my car again and it would cost a lot of money and eventually convinced me to get a new car. It later turns out my car actually had a recall notice for the same exact issue I brought it in for and it definitely would have been covered by the dealership. Fast forward, the guy showed me a 2019 Kia Forte and I fell in love. Knowing that I wouldn’t have a car for months like he said just wasn’t an option for me. I agreed to buy the first car he showed me,as I was feeling a bit desperate just to have a car. I feel like he took my weakness as an advantage. Okay whatever I eventually got the car. Fast forward to almost 2 months since I got the car and I’m getting collections calls and emails from Kia Finance saying I owed money on my 2016 Kia Soul, the one I traded in. I had agreed to a payoff and signed my car over to the dealership. It was not my responsibility anymore. I was receiving letters and phone calls nonstop about late payments on a vehicle that wasn’t even mine anymore. I tried telling Kia Finance the situation and they said I had to get ahold of the dealership. I talked to Jason,my finance manager. He said he had mailed the payoff check on April 19th and was received April 22nd by Kia Finance. I traded in my car March 11th. He waited over a month to send the check. He put it off for so long that I had to stress about late payment notices showing up on my credit report. Very very disappointed in how unprofessional this was handled. I will not be returning here for my services or recommending this dealership to anybody.

Don't Go To Them

by BDW on 04/14/2019

The salesman was not honest. I am now chasing them for months and am being charged for things I never agreed to. What a nightmare. Go somewhere else. I will need to file a lawsuit.

Disappointing

by Kennie on 04/02/2019

I went in Sunday March 31st with the goal to trade in my Kia Optima which i also purchased from Kia of DTLA in 2016 for a newer model, i had contacted a sales rep a day prior to set a appointment. Went in Sunday waited and was greeted by a sales rep (not who i had the appointment with) talked about what vehicle i was interested in looked at some options and fell in love with the optima S model. Test drove once we sat down the rep and i went over what monthly numbers i was looking at, he came back and gave me some ridiculous numbers. They ran my wife and my credit which is good, i have never been late in a payment with KIA. He mentioned during the sales process that he had already hit his monthly numbers and could be in the back “online shopping” i feel as there was no effort into wanting to continue business with me, never did the Sales manager come out to see what other options may be available or to at least introduce himself. The rep just handed me my keys and said we can’t help you. I left with a sour taste in my mouth and very disappointed because i would think i would get some sort of thank you for wanting to continue business with KIA but the effort was not there since they had already hit “their numbers” for the month. Iv worked sales for over 8 years and your treat everyone equal regardless if monthly goals are met or not. This is the first time i go to a car dealership and the sales manger did not come out to introduce himself before letting the customer walk. Thank you.

Sales

by Ruben_Vazquez on 02/13/2019

Salesperson lied to me, tried to manipulate me that he was trying to help me. He never disclosed to me deficiency balance only said they would have to absorb the deficiency balance and it was a bad deal and I did not understand what that meant. They never told me how my vehicle worked nor any options. It took a week after my purchase to get my sealant placed on my vehicle. I was shown one number in writing and reviewed my contract and it was another. Just all around horrible experience at this dealership!

Horrible customer service

by Mendozakathy on 01/27/2019

My 2016 lease was up in Dec so I stepped in to get an estimate as to how much my over-mileage would be and trade in fees all together. Upon asking for this info, I got talked into checking out other vehicles to get started on a new lease. I was told and promised that if I got a new lease, my over mileage fees would be payed off. Asked multiple times to avoid miscommunication and kept getting assured. Fast forward 15 days later, I receive a letter saying I have a 2500 debt of over-mileage fees. I call multiple times trying to get a hold of Moises, the manager that made these false promises and no luck. Finally, he answers after calling 5 days and all I get told is “I will talk to financing to see what I can do and will call you back”. No call back as expected. I call once again the next day and no luck contacting him. I decide to show up personally just to wait an hour and have the receptionist tell me he has “stepped out but will be back in 15 min”. I wait around just to be blown off by him saying he doesn’t recall saying anything. I ask who else I can speak to and speak to a finance agent. She says there’s nothing they can do. Speak to the GM just to get told “I can refuse service to whoever I want in my shop”. Since when is it your shop? Okay. Biggest mistake was giving this dealership my business. Can not wait for this lease to be up to return this vehicle and take my business elsewhere. I’m not the only one having these issues as I’ve check Yelp reviews and there are more than a lot of people stating the same thing, if not worse. False promises just to get a sale will only result in less business over time. Lesson learned. I will definitely discourage anyone I know to not take their business to Kia. Horrible customer service.

Online parts / sales

by JRAM6878 on 11/16/2018

I purchased all weather floor mats online 10/22/18. The order was shipped incomplete and I have sent 3 emails with no response from the online parts department. I called the dealership and was given a different number to their online parts dept which just put my call in a holding pattern and eventually went back to the main dealership receptionist who suggested I call back after lunch. I did and the same thing happened. I spent more than 30 minutes on hold with no resolve. Finally, I found a live chat feature on their website and was told they would forward my message to the appropriate people and I should hear from them soon. I'll hold my breath. Never would I order from this establishment again.

Fantastic Service from Emmanuel Hamwi!

by Arshum_R on 10/11/2018

I went in today to get a tire replaced after I was in an accident, and at first I wasn't being helped, but a gentleman named Emmanuel Hamwi approached me and assisted me immediately. It was an incredibly busy day at the service center, but he managed to get me out of there in no time. He was incredibly patient and kind during the whole process. Could not recommend him enough. If I ever come back, I am definitely requesting to work with him again. Thanks Emmanuel!

Shady operations to sell extended warranty

by Lucky on 06/13/2018

The financial "specialist" tell you they will give you a warranty plan after you have decline the plan with the sales rep. They then make you sign papers as fast as possible. Tell you this is an error, sign here. Then you go home and double check the math, they charged you for the warranty planned you declined but was "gifted" to you. You go there next day and they make up stories about the paperwork. They admit they messed up and tell you they will give you this and that to make it up to you. They will not call back or do as promised. Needless to say, My first and Last Kia. Thanks Kia of Downtown for ruining my car buying experience.
