Empty promises after a really disrespectful behavior

Drove 90 miles only to deal with a salesperson (J. Park) who dropped f-bombs constantly, talked about his drug use, asked me if I used drugs and DIDN'T KEEP PROMISES. If you see the "we don't normally sell used non-Lexus" and "it'll go to auction" lines, that's a gimmick to get you in the door. The used RAV4 XLE AWD I came all the way from North San Diego County to look at had a shady history as a former rental and then it was driven a lot of miles quickly (likely a delivery/Über vehicle). I asked for and was promised a simple thing, an enhanced-OBD scan. The scan would have generated a dozen pages of computer sensor readings ranging from oxygen/fuel mix ratios, electrical resistance from circuits that control the transmission, etc. All rather straightforward. Throwing away $12,000+ is not in my family's best interest... Not only was I given a pathetic ⅓-page 14-line report, one, THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE was *INCOMPLETE.* (See the photo.) On top of that, the vehicle was missing all of its undercarriage shielding. Some of that is tolerable if the engine and computer modules all checked out okay... but would have been an immediate replacement need. What a waste of my energy, time, money and wear and tear on the car I drove up there. Another representative, after I had already returned home, named Diego was conciliatory in emails although he was unwilling/unable to make a deal happen on another vehicle in consolation for my previous experience. It was either he or a manager who said that they will "take care of me" in the future. Giving me standard online pricing isn't being "taken care of" in most people's books. Hiring somebody such as my initial consultant, J.P., made me think he was the owner's son. No dealership would (in their right mind) hire someone so out of control of simple social mores. I pitied JP and tried to boost his standing with a manager on-site but, ultimately, by not providing the promised enhanced-OBD scan, it completely screwed me. If you deal with them, demand actions. Their words are empty, promises unkept.

Couldn't deliver

Sales Manager and sale rep. were not honest to tell me that the dealer did not have the vehicle on stock as I requested and made me drive to the dealer knowing that they did not have the car on stock which wasted my time. This is after I requested of them to be respecful of my time as another dealer had wasted my time. They offer a car that was missing an option that I wanted but becasue they never apologized or responded to my emails after I told them that I was very dissappointed at the service they provided, I turn them down.

Disappointing treatment

I've leased 3 cars from this dealership in the last 10 years. This time, I had 6 dealerships all quoting me, and I was working the price down among them. When I finally decided to make a hard offer, I made it to the remaining 4 dealers who would cooperate. Three of them said OK. Glendale said "no, this is too much of a loss." I said, "thanks, anyway," and proceeded to head off to one of the other three to lease the car. At that point, the saleswoman emailed me and said, "OK - come down and we'll do the deal." I decided to honor my appointment with the other dealer instead. I was not happy that Glendale did not try harder to keep my business. I guess that doesn't really matter to them that much!

A great place to buy

Have been a retuning customer since 1992 and would not be returning if I were not satisfied with the sales process. Over the years, I have purchased quite a few cars from Lexus of Glendale and cannot say enough good things about this dealership. Top notch in all ways.

BEWARE!

The only way to protect yourself at this dealer is to bring a cellphone. Once they start to cheat you and tell you the price they quoted will not hold up you need to whip out your cell phone and call (or pretend to call) another Lexus dealer and tell them what's happening in front of your salesman. Lexus of Glendale quoted me a lease at 36 months... the paperwork said 48 months. They stood to make a fortune over that "little error." Another salesman wouldn't quote me a price until I surrundered the keys to my current car. Minutes later I grabbed my keys and drove off. BRING YOUR CELLPHONE. Once they start to screw you... you screw them. Call anyone. Pretend it's another Lexus dealer. "Hello, Joey. They want five hundred dollars extra. Do you have this car? You do? I'll be right over." You can only win if you play one dealer over another. Jim in LA
