great treatment

by doug71plus on 09/06/2013

Ken L. (fleet sales) was upfront and no pressure. I have limited mobility due to a leg injury so it was a relief not to have to go through the old "I'll have to check with my manager" or even two or three "managers" to wear you down. Ken pointed out the fact that the Prius C 2 had features I would need with my bad leg that did not come with the basic Prius C.

Good experience via buying service

by chrispmorgan on 12/18/2012

I used the Consumers Checkbook buying service for my most recent purchase and was content with my experience at City Toyota. Pluses for being near Colma BART, free wifi, an espresso bar and plenty of inventory of what I wanted. Minus for a modest amount of hard sell materialized even when I was clear about things I didn't want (I also realized in retrospect I should have counter offered on the security add-on I wanted). I think they could improve buying efficiency to one hour from the ~3hrs it took for somebody like me who is paying cash by allowing me to fill out forms online ahead of time. Friendly and honest service. Would recommend.

Best Price from the SF Bay Area

by eynht on 06/03/2012

I would like to comment on this dealership. I bought my first new car in 2008. I was not looking forward to spending a whole day at a dealership from all the horror stories I've heard about so I thought about trying the online quotes and hopefully that would alleviate some of the pain. City Toyota was the first to respond out of 7 and they gave me the best price. I asked the other dealers if they could beat the price and no one was able to. I was very specific with the exterior/interior color and the options with the car. They honored the price quote and even through in a few extra accessories at no extra cost. I was out of the dealership in an hour and drove off. Being the skeptic that I am, I went online to the Rav4 boards to see what others were paying and I was glad I went to City Toyota because I realized I got an excellent price. Flash forward to May 2012. I had to buy another car unexpectedly and was not prepared for it. I decided on the Prius and again I went online through Edmunds.com. City Toyota again was the first to respond out of 8 dealers and again they gave me the best quote. I asked the other dealers if they could beat it and none could. I also went online to the Prius board and again felt I had an excellent price. Again I was very specific with the exterior/interior color and options for the car. I was told the car would be arriving 1 - 2 weeks. I picked up the car with 2 miles on it and with a great price. Both experiences at City Toyota was awesome. No haggling, no "let me talk to my manager." I was in and out in an hour with new car both times. I normally don't write reviews but felt I had to say something about the excellent service I received.

Who is running this place?

by irat8er on 02/03/2008

It is hard for me to believe that someone can build such a beautiful dealership and forget to fill it with competent people. My wife and I visited this dealership to purchase our 2008 Prius. We had received several quotes from around the bay area and were surprised at the price we received from City Toyota. The price they quoted was over $700.00 lower that the other dealership that we had contacted. We soon found out why. We waited almost an hour for the salesperson who forgot about our appointment. While we were waiting, we were able to hear the other salespeople talking about their last deals. I found it amazing that anyone would want to buy a car from someone that considers their customers to be “roaches”. Anyway, after our sales consultant found the vehicle we wanted, we were then told that they had made a mistake on the price of the vehicle and would not honor the quote that they had give us. I felt the hair on the back of my neck begin to rise. I asked to speak to the manager. This was a bad decision on my part. The manager came out and asked my wife “what her problem was.” While I am not a violent person, I asked the manager to please apologize for his outburst toward my wife and to find a way to honor the price his sales person had quoted. The manager finally agreed to honor the price and soon we were off to meet with the paperwork person. Here is where things went from bad to worse. When reviewing the total price of the vehicle with the finance manager, we were told that the price we had been quoted did not include the destination charges from the factory or the additional “protection package” they have installed on all of their cars. Now the base price was over $1,100.00 more that we had agreed to. The finance person recognized the look on my face and began to try to talk his way around the difference in the price. He said he would make up the difference in the price by discounting the extended warranty that he knew we wanted to purchase. Ok… time to run… quickly! My wife and I grabbed our things and ran out of the dealership being chased by the salesperson and the manager. I felt like I was escaping from something. I have never felt this much pressure in my life. Our experience was so bad that we considered purchasing a Honda instead of the Prius. After visiting the Toyota dealership in San Francisco, we kept with our decision to purchase the Prius. Thanks San Francisco Toyota for not being anything like City Toyota. We love our new Prius.

Full of Lies.

by waistoa on 11/28/2007

I went there tonight (at 8:00 pm on Wednesday 11/28) and there was this Chinese (no racial hatred here - I'm a Chinese myself) salesman I met. His last name is WONG, and he wears some cheesy cheap-quality pinstripe suit. He definitely has an attitude problem. I wasn't too impressed with his customer technique (lack thereof) in the beginning - he smelled horribly like cigarettes all over himself, and he rudely spat on the floor in front of me while talking with me. Not very sophisticated simply put. He was supposedly the floor supervisor. He was very unhelpful, was full of lies giving us FAKE invoice prices. He refused to show us the invoice that we requested on a Prius, and would only give us an oral answer when we asked him for the invoice. And then he changed his invoice price again and again, after we asked him tougher questions and showed him how prepared and informed we were as buyers. Then, he was also UN-educated about basic science. When I asked him about the reason why MPG went down on Prius, he told me the reason MPG went down was because the rising gas prices. Come on! MPG is price per gallon, which is NOT even related to gas prices! I mean, how UN-educated can a car salesman be to give an answer like that! Very UNimpressive.

Excellent dealership

by bwh1 on 09/29/2007

We drove across the Bay to buy our new 08 Toyota Highlander from this dealership. Cindy Lee was the internet fleet manager that sold us the car. She provided excellent communication, sales, information and service. The price was very good compared with other dealerships we checked. Also the actual dealership building and lot was so large, new and attractive. Everyone we came in contact with was terrific.

City Toyota SUCKS!

by rothschi on 07/29/2007

Our visit to City Toyota to buy a Prius today was horrible. When we were finalizing the price (down to $100 difference), they decided to tell us that someone else had just sold our car (there was only 1 in the color we wanted). We were shocked and they didn't seem surprised. Also, another couple came to City Toyota to buy a car b/c they had talked to a salesguy there who offered them $100 less than the other quote they were getting in San Francisco. When they showed up, they spent 4 hours there only to find out that City Toyota was now raising the price of the car by another $500! Crazy! Do not shop there unless you are okay with potentially inopportune outcomes such as this.
