Purchase used vehicle

by Karen on 05/14/2020

Appreciated salesman willie Bibb. No fluff. Only regret I had was at finance time. The guy for not forthright and added an $800 gap insurance. Caught me off guard. Could have declined and purchased much cheaper with my personal insurance. Won’t finance there again.

DEALERSHIP OF CHOICE

by Jackie on 07/30/2019

Jim Burke Subaru has been my go-to choice of Subaru Dealerships since 2008 when I leased my first Subaru Legacy. Professional sales team with customer satisfaction as a priority has made me a return customer since that time. Add to that a top notch Service Dept., and you know why Jim Burke Dealership is the only Subaru Dealership in Alabama as far as I'm concerned. Happily, I now drive a 2019 Forrester Sport!

Best Subaru dealership ever!!

by BamaGirl on 12/04/2018

Leasing a Subaru from JIM BURKE Subaru has always been a pleasure rather than a dreaded chore for me. Knowing that I’ll be treated fairly (my current car is my fifth leased Subaru), I can relax and enjoy the “getting a new car” experience. Everyone is courteous, professional, and really seems to appreciate my patronage.

A++ Service

by KonDoggu on 06/29/2018

Jim Burke Subaru has an asset in Mike Logsdon. He was extremely helpful with finding my Subaru. He gave me the positives and negatives to help me make an informed decision. He wasn’t your normal “pushy” salesman. I was at the dealership and I spotted him out in the lot and he offered his assistance. He made the process very easy as he is easy to talk to and carry a conversation with. You will become friends with him! If you are looking for a new Subaru, go by and see Mike!

Sam and David are great to deal with

by subarubrad2014 on 04/07/2014

Sam S. and David B. found the exact Forester my wife and I were looking for, and that is no small thing considering the demand for the model after it won the 2014 Motor Trend SUV of the year. The popular trim level and color we wanted made the search even more difficult, but they answered any questions I had and were professional and patient with me. They kept me up to date with the search and then the special order process over the phone, and were able to find and deliver an unallocated car a month ahead of the estimated time. The price was very much in line with what I considered fair according to TrueCar, and especially considering the high demand for the model. Also, this dealership offers free oil changes for life, which will save $40-50 every 7500 miles. If you go to trade here, ask for Sam and you will be treated well.

No Longer Reliable Sales Practices

by pastcustomer7 on 04/07/2013

I bought a car from Jim Burke several years ago because of the straight forward sales negotiation. The salesman started with the usual push to extract as much money as possible, but when I made it clear I had shopped around, we were able to come to reasonable terms. I returned to the dealership in January to look at a brand new car in the model that I own. I performed a test drive and then sought information on the price and on the value of a trade. The offer was list price for the new car and thousands under the fair book value at trade in value, though my car is 20,000 miles below the average milage for the model year. The sales person disappeared for quite a period of time. On return they wanted to argue about what a good offer that I had been given. I explained that I have never paid list price and that I knew that the value of my trade was far from the offer. So I asked for a reasonable offer, and got no where at first. When I said I was leaving, I was asked to wait a while for the sales person to go back to the general manager. I was willing to wait. After waiting longer than expected for a quick response, I hunted down the sales person. The sales person did have another offer. It was a offer that should have started a reasonable negotiation. It was something I could negotiate from; however, I was informed that the offer was a one day take or leave it right then. Outrageous seeing as I had just done a test drive, was becoming informed and was not final on car color and amenities. I asked if they were serious about the offer being today only. They were, and rudely made that clear. I will not buy a car from Jim Burke so long as they continue with the old school sales approach being pushed by the COO. So much for, "The sale never ends". They lost a reliable customer and I would advise others to shop around with their competition.

Not trustworthy...

by spatch359 on 12/30/2012

My wife and I recently traveled from Daphne, AL to Jim Burke Subaru in Birmingham to look at a vehicle that was listed on Autotrader. We met a salesman, Ron R., and told him we were there to look at a used 2011 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited. He informed us the car was being cleaned, but we could ride down and look at it. We took one of their used cars and drove down to their cleaning facility. We told him that we really like the car and that we want to test drive it and make an offer. He made an appointment for us to come back at 2pm to test drive it. So, we test drove an XV then and then we left and tooled around B'ham while waiting for 2pm. After waiting for 3 hours, we came back at exactly 2pm to be informed by Mr. Ron that someone was there buying the car already. Thats odd since we were told it wouldn't be back from the cleaners until 2. Ron didnt try to offer any explanation nor did he show any sympathy for making us wait for no reason. The car had already been sold to the other customer. After leaving, I called back up to JB and asked to speak to a general manager and ended up speaking with Efrem M., COO. He apologized for the way Ron treated us, but told me that humans make mistakes and that Ron was not at fault since he is a Senior Salesman. I explained to Mr. M. that humans do make mistakes, but in Ron's case since he is a senior salesman, they cannot make those mistakes. Ron had my cell # and could have easily called me to inform me of the car being sold so my wife and I wouldnt waste our time and energy waiting to view a sold car. Mr. M. offered to find a similar vehicle for us. I agreed thinking he may actually try to help us. Instead he finds a random Subaru on autotrader and sends me that (it also was $5k more than the car we looked at). All in all, dealing with Jim Burke just reminded me that all car dealerships are the same and just want your money. They are deplorable and will never see a dime of my money. In all of this, I was the one that made the mistake in thinking that this car dealership would be trustworthy. Think of it this way: I am a paying customer with cash so why let me even leave the lot? It just doesnt make an sense. Hopefully this review will help others steer clear of Jim Burke.

Major Rust Issue Not Disclosed/No Offer of Compensation

by peacocklady on 12/07/2011

Description Of Work: I was sold a used 2003 Subaru Forester with significant progressive rust issues that were not disclosed or visible on visual inspection due to coverage with several coats of spray paint. Member Comments: After 6 months of searching locally and on the internet and several test drives of similar vehicles I made a 400 mile round trip to consider purchasing this particular Subaru Forester based on the AutoTrader on line add, dealer/sales person description, and assurance that if there were significant problems of which I was not aware at the time of purchase that the dealership would 'make it right'. The day after letting the sales person know what day I would be able to make the trip to see the vehicle I noted they had raised the online price at AutoTrader from $7500.00 to approximately $8375.00. But they would 'honor the original price on line the day before'. Upon return home, when inspected by my mechanic for an oil and coolant leak, he discovered significant rust affecting all portions of the vehicle from the brake lines, to the frame, shock absorbers, brakes, bolts holding engine and all major components in place. He informed me that the rust progression would continue, there was no reliable way to stop it and that any further work on the vehicle would likely be significantly more costly due to increased labor costs when trying to replace or remove parts for access due to the severe deformation of the bolts keeping parts in place. In addition the rust is likely to cause many further problems such as damaged brake lines, frame, brake and suspension issues. The extent of the rust problem was not apparent until he had removed the water pump and radiator to search for the cause of the coolant leak due to several coats of spray paint that had been recently applied and were covering the rust from immediate visual inspection. I contacted the sales person, the General Manager and finally Mr. Burke's assistant. I explained the situation and requested one of 2 solutions. They accept the vehicle back and refund my purchase price, or compensate me for the difference between the difference based on Kelley Blue Book and Edmunds for a car in 'good' condition versus 'fair to poor'. The differences ranged from $2200.00 to $4000.00 less that the price I had paid. As another 400 mile round trip to return the vehicle was very difficult for me, I requested less than the lowest price difference represented by Kelley Blue Book and Edmunds ($2000.00). I was told after a week of 'consideration' that they 'were going to do nothing for me as the rust was not their fault'. Initially, I had stated that I felt perhaps the person trading the vehicle into them had placed the spray paint there; but that since according to their on line AutoTrader add and the sales person's assurance the car had been carefully inspected by their mechanics, I felt they should have been aware of the rust situation prior to offering the vehicle for sale and made that known to prospective buyers. They continued to deny any awareness of the rust which raises concerns that either their 'mechanical inspection' is very cursory or incompetent or that in fact the condition was covered cosmetically at their facility. I offered to e-mail pictures of the rust and will do before pursuing the matter legally in order to document the severity of the condition. Ultimately, I would strongly recommend that anyone considering a used or new vehicle purchase from Jim Burke Automotive in Birmingham, Alabama choose another dealership or be aware that there is very little chance that they will take any action at all to rectify significant issues with vehicles they have sold or to promote customer satisfaction. Their promises of 'the sale never ends' and 'guaranteed customer satisfaction' appear to be the usual 'car salesman sales pitch'. If they eventually take an honorable action to rectify this matter I will certainly update this information. In the mean time I would avoid any interaction with this dealership.

Dealer said found my car and was having it trucked in

by fish25 on 03/12/2011

Dealer called me and said they had found what vehicle I was looking for but it was in Memphis. So they were going to have it trucked in. What a lie! It was driven from Memphis. When I bought car it had 241 miles on it and was charged $588 delivery charge. Then I had a noise coming from under the hood and was told when I called the salesman that sold me the car he would come over and listen to the car when I got there. He was to busy I guess. Go elsewhere!

Painless car buying experience

by susmcc on 03/06/2010

After considering a new car for many months, I decided to get serious about buying a Nissan Cube. Jim Burke Nissan and especially Rexanne Smith were the best. They gave me the best price immediately, without any of the games that many car salesmen play. There was no need for any haggling - thank goodness! I was always treated with respect. My experiences prior to this had not been positive when buying a car. What I recieved for my trade-in was fair. The Cube I selected didn't have all the options I wanted. Jim Burke Nissan worked hard to accomodate my wishes. All the paperwork was ready quickly and within a short period of time I left driving my new car. I had a couple of questions about my new car in the days right after the purchase. Rexanne and the service dept. were always available and ready to answer my questions. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Jim Burke and especially Rexanne Smith to any of my friends who were interested in purchasing a car.
