2026 Chevy Bolt EV

The Chevrolet Bolt EV debuted as an all-electric hatchback in 2017 and quickly became popular with consumers because of its low price and capability to go approximately 250 miles on a full charge. GM canceled the Bolt EV and the larger Bolt EUV at the end of 2023. Thankfully, an all-new Bolt EV should debut for the 2026 model year.

Historically, the Chevy Bolt EV was one of the most affordable electric vehicles on the market. We're hopeful the new model will remain budget-friendly and fairly robust with range. The first generation offered an EPA-estimated range of 259 miles on a charge. In our independent Edmunds EV Range Test, the Bolt EV exceeded that figure, going 278 miles. We expect the new Bolt to improve upon these numbers. Based on the spy shots we've seen of 2026 Bolt EV prototypes driving around, the vehicle appears to be similar in size and shape to the previous model. But we do expect the 2026 Bolt EV to have updated styling along with new technology features.

A redesigned Nissan Leaf is coming for 2026. It has new styling and a Nissan-estimated range of up to 303 miles. The Volvo EX30 is another possible option. It's a small and affordably priced electric hatchback that's sportier and quicker than the Bolt EV. We also think you'd be wise to check out Chevy's own Equinox EV. It's one of the best-ranked small electric SUVs on Edmunds thanks to its long range, roomy seating and reasonable price. 

The discontinuation of federal tax credits for electric vehicles means that affordable initial pricing will be paramount in 2026. We expect the 2026 Chevrolet Bolt EV to be one of the least expensive models, and that bodes well for its popularity.
