I just wanted a car that would get me where I wanted to go with a minimum of fuss, anxiety, and maximum of value & comfort. It works for me. I'm pretty small, so I like a small car. I'm frugal, so I like the mileage. I get 32 mpg for my normal driving, which includes lots of steep hills, and 39 mpg on the hwy. And I need to watch myself on the interstate, or I'm cruising effortlessly at 80 mph! Sure it's basic! But even on my basic L trim, I have a backup camera, auto headlight dimmer (which works amazingly well!), lane assist if I veer across a line, a beeper if I get too close to the car ahead... The only safety feature that I'm trying to figure out is the auto following distance, which slows you down if you are using cruise control and get too close to the vehicle ahead. That doesn't work well in heavy traffic. I like having both a CD player and a backup camera. It's now July 2020 and I feel the same way. This might end up being my last car. So far, after 2 1/2 years of ownership, I haven't paid a thing for maintenance. "Toyotacare" covered the first 2 years of maintenance. It came with fully synthetic oil and only needs to be changed yearly or 10 k miles.

Front seats are awful

I have only had this car a little over a day. I drive 45-60 minutes one way to work everyday. So a total of 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours a day in my car. If you do any kind of long distance driving, beware, the seats are extremely uncomfortable. There is zero support. Also, hard to get in and out of unless you are young in age and or in great shape. I wish I would have paid more attention before I leased it.

For the first time in over 15 years, I rented a car while traveling. I don't get outside New England very often so renting a car is seldom a concern, but while visiting my parents in South Carolina, I was looking forward to renting a brand new Toyota Corolla. My current vehicle is a 2007 Subaru Outback that has it's old car type quirks, but has been good, solid transportation overall. I was eager to get behind the wheel of a new car, even if it was only a rental. My enthusiasm quickly faded. The controls on the car were anything but "user friendly". It was late May in the south and it was hot outside. It took a while for my wife and I to figure out how to turn on the a.c. We also couldn't figure the radio out to save our lives. The interior materials felt cheap, I'm sad to say. For a new model, the ride was rather noisy. I'm used to a semi noisy ride because my Subaru is 10 years old, but I don't expect it from a new car! The transmission shifted smoothly enough, and everything else seemed to work ok...except...the first time I had to go up a hill in downtown Columbia, the car started to lose acceleration and I had to pump the gas pedal! I thought it was going to stall, but it just didn't want to go up the hill! Perhaps I'm spoiled with my all wheel drive on my Outback. The one and only feature I enjoyed was the rear camera, I found it quite handy. Please understand, I am not anti-Toyota, I drive Japanese cars. My wife and I also previously owned 2 Toyota Corollas with GM labels on them. We had an 87' Chevy Nova, and a 91 Geo Prism, both cars we loved. So I was anxious to see how far the Corolla had come. I expected to have to fight the desire to buy a car like this once I drove it, but it only made me miss my ten year old Subaru. In my opinion, the Corolla is just okay but with issues. Keep looking before you settle for a Corolla.
