New Impression for an Old Friend

Having a short attention span, I have been through a number of SUVs including a 02 Pathfinder, 03 Sequoia, 02 BMW X5 V8, 02 4Runner, 04 CR-V to name a few. This 06 seems to be the best mix for the price. My primary gripes are headroom on ingress, climate control knobs/buttons, and lack of dark interior option. If I could have had a scaled-down Sequoia, that would have been perfect. The V8 in this intermediate is a true luxury. I love the throttle response. Many complain that it is too responsive, but being primarily a sports car guy, it is a welcome attribute. I wanted a masculine SUV that had a livable nature and that is what I got.

2006 4 Runner SR5 4X V6

Great acceleration with the V6. You definitely have all the power you need. Handles turns at extraordinarily high speeds. The suspension is a little bumpy but much smoother than earlier models. There is a bit of outside noise factor. Great sound system. Back seat passangers are very comfortable with their own climate control and plenty of leg room. City MPG run lower than advertised but on the open highway they run much higher than advertised. Overall it is a fun safe car to drive.

I had gone through 2 Ford Explorers. My last being a 2005 Eddie Bauer. Both never saw 40,000 miles before I began putting large amounts of money into them. In February of 2009, I purchased my 4Runner with 52,000 miles on it. Just opening and closing the doors, you could hear and feel the difference in the quality of this car vs. Ford. The gas mileage is almost double what I got with the Ford. It handles beautifully in the snow. It's a little more work to get it into 4 wheel drive, but worth the effort! It handles beautifully on the highway, and is just a fun car to drive. I will own this car until it falls apart...I have the feeling I'll fall apart before this car does!

Just bought the car. Nice ride. Avg about 20.1 (set cruise @65.00 sharp). Combined driving gets about 18.2 MPG. Computer updates the MPG every 10 sec. Very smooth. Quiet interior. The power seats are nice. Wish side airbags come standard. No body lean around the curve at 40~45 MPH. Drove thru a heavy rain storm and can feel the traction control sets in right away. A lot of room when rear seats folded down. Storage areas throughout the car make it really neat.

Although I've only own this SUV for 4 months, I must say this is probably the best SUV I've owned so far. (I've had a 95 Jeep Grand and 07 Honda Element.) I originally thought the XREAS suspension was some hokey-pokey nonsense but after driving my friends 05 SR5. WOW, what a difference. this thing has plenty of power, the interior is almost as quiet as my sister's 08 RX350, I love the black interior, the power seats are comfortable. I can go on raving about this SUV for hours but I'll just keep it short. Bottom line, go drive one and experience this great SUV for yourself!
