2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO 4dr Double Cab 4WD 5.0 ft. SB (3.5L 6cyl 6M)
The engine has been a point of contention so I will make this short, normal every day driving you would never notice and by purchasing a manual transmission I am not subject to the "indecisive" automatic. I will say that it could do with a little more low end torque and wish there was a supercharger/turbo option. Overall I love the truck and off-road comfort is amazing without … sacrificing the on road sensibility.
Update Nov 17: Still love the truck and no major issues to report. Only one thing that I need to follow up with the Service dept. is a noticeable humming when cruising in 4th gear as the accelerator is just being engaged/disengaged.
Nov. 18
Etune system does random reboots usually when using Bluetooth audio and a call comes in. Need to get to Toyota to diagnose. An irritation for sure, but I still love the truck.
April. 19
Toyota fixed the issue with the Entune head unit in December and it has been solid since. No other issues or concerns.
May 2021:
Truck is still going strong after 4 years with no major issues or irritations. Been all over Nevada, on and off-road with nary a complaint.
Great off road but cant hold 70+ on the freeway.

2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO 4dr Double Cab 4WD 5.0 ft. SB (3.5L 6cyl 6M)
When I purchased this truck it was based on always wanting to drive a Tacoma. Historically I have driven full sized trucks. To be honest I feel like I’m driving an ATV. The truck is wonderful off road, but sometimes I feel like I’m going to get killed getting into traffic. Additionally, holding freeway speeds is an incessant downshift nightmare. The speed limit on the way to the … mountains where I frequently travel is 80 mph. The Tacoma can’t handle it. I do not understand why Toyota can’t fix this. Not everyone lives off road. I think long term If I lived on a ranch or off the grid this truck would be ideal, but for the weekend warrior I would rather tow this truck to my off road location, like an ATV, than drive it there.
Good little truck. Very reliable. Just wish it had a freeway mode.
I purchased a 4 cyl. Turbo Wrangler Sahara for my daughter. In comparison to the Tacoma it has tons more torque, similar off-road, and better gas mileage. I’m not sure what Toyota is thinking

2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO 4dr Double Cab 4WD 5.0 ft. SB (3.5L 6cyl 6M)
Toyota created my dream truck and I was fortunate enough to actually get it! The dealer where I purchased it, TOYOTA WEST, COLUMBUS OHIO provided superb sales people (Chad and Michael) to help me work out the details. It is a color called Quicksand and to this day people stop me to compliment me on my truck's beauty. But its features are superb: it is both rugged and technologically … brilliant. The engine purrs. The driving experience is glorious; you can really feel the power in a manual. The style was created by some artists: just gorgeous. Here, 3 years out, my truck has proven to be my consummate driving experience. I am an elder: it will likely be my last vehicle for I do not plan to ever trade it in. UPDATE; This is the loveliest and most responsive, durable and phenomenally well-appointed vehicle on the planet, in my opinion. Everything which i wrote two years ago holds true today, entering my fifth year as owner. I get between 22- 25 miles per gallon still, with 4 -wheel drive. I absolutely love my Tacoma. TY TOYOTA!!! and by the way, ADVANCE TOYOTA IN HUNTINGTON WV IS AN AWESOME LOCAL DEALERSHIP that Cares for my truck as it deserves, and provides impeccable service.UPDATE : MARCH, 2024 BEST TRUCK IN CREATION and STILL RUNS LIKE A TOP; AMAZING OFF ROAD PERFORMANCE AS WELL AS i STILL GET 23-26 MPG on AVERAGE ! BRILLAINT BEAUTIFUL FABULOUS ACCOUTREMENTS ! TY FOR MAKING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE THAT IS PURE JOY TO DRIVE: RESPONSIVE, USER-FRIENDLY, GREAT ON GAS, AND POWERFUL. IT has also held up well to my big dogs sharing it with me!

Which Tacoma does Edmunds recommend?
We bought a TRD Off-Road V6 4x4 for our long-term test, and we'd do it again. With strong go-anywhere credentials thanks to its all-terrain tires, Bilstein shocks, locking rear differential and crawl control, it doesn't break the bank like the admittedly impressive TRD Pro. The cab comes equipped with the 7-inch Entune touchscreen navigation system, and a single comprehensive option package can add a tilt-and-slide moonroof, heated seats, automatic climate control, rear parking sonar, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Available in the full range of bed, cab and transmission choices, too.

Driving
3.5The Tacoma steers and handles with quiet confidence on the road, but the V6 engine and its automatic transmission don't always respond quickly to inputs. All Tacoma 4x4s benefit from Toyota's off-road design emphasis, but the TRD Off-Road is particularly capable when the pavement ends.
Comfort
3.5This new Tacoma rides smoother and quieter than the one it replaces. The climate control system is refreshingly simple and effective. The seats are accommodating, but the high floor tends to make tall drivers wish for more adjustability.
Interior
4.0Attractive interior is nicely laid out, with easily understood and effective controls. The cabin has plenty of space up front, but tall folks may disagree. Biggest shortcomings are the relatively tall step up to the cab and an odd driving posture, both side effects of the need for ground clearance.
Utility
4.0The Tacoma's composite bed has lots of smart cargo management features, and there's a decent amount of places for items in and around the cab. Its tow rating isn't quite class-leading, but it isn't far off the mark. Child seat fitment in the crew cab favors forward-facing seats and boosters.
Technology
3.5We generally like the touchscreen audio system because it has large virtual buttons and employs knobs for volume and tuning chores. Supports smartphones with a proprietary Entune app instead of the more universal Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Lags behind Honda Ridgeline in advanced driver aids.
