Love my new Prius

2013 Toyota Prius Four 4dr Hatchback (1.8L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

I owned a 2005 Prius for 8 years with no problems ever. It averaged 48-50 mpg most of those years. My new 2013 is a Prius 4 with more bells & whistles, which I thought would lower the mpg, but not so far. I averaged 53 mpg on my 1st tank! I don't care for the center console area, less storage area than earlier models. And they replaced the map size door pockets with cup/bottle size pockets. I almost went with the larger PriusV because of the cosole area. The solar air circulation seems to work pretty good, considering I am in FL! Anyway, it was a little higher priced, but if it works as well as my old one, it'll be worth it not to have any issues!

2013 Prius. 101/2 years later still getting great mileage, car looks like new, except for trashy plastic finish protectors Dealer put on.On 3nd starting battery. Both previous Batteries lasted 5 Years.Normal maintenance, and a set of tires. In every way, most economical car I have ever had. Since the motor is now fully broken in, I occasionally have a short trip in the 34 mpg range. But, my normal range is now 49 to 56 MPG, with occasional trips getting to the 70 + range. Love cruising past the Gas stations. , Excellent fuel mileage. The Prius rides and handles like any small firm suspension car, it is NOT a luxury cruiser or sports car. The Prius has a deceptively large interior with excellent cargo space. It does run with the pack on our busy interstates. Slightly noisier than one would expect. There is a learning curve in adapting your driving habits to a Hybrid. Zero mechanical problems or malfunctions so far, (at least prior to the current accident). Interior materials are inferior but tough, could be much better. We have not been able to duplicate the advertised 51 Mpg (average), but it is only a minor disappointment as I find 48.7 for all my local, city, and Interstate driving quite acceptable. We get occasional trip averages of over 60 mpg (My Ford pickup gets 14mpg at best). Trips of over a thousand miles were comfortable enough, and I am 6'2" tall. The Prius does what it is designed to do, which is to cleanly use the minimum of fuel while getting you safely to your destination. Safety, unfortunately, I can attest to the excellent safety of the Prius in an accident situation, after being rear ended by a speeding Nissan pickup truck in a multi - vehicle accident. *** $8500.00 + damage to the rear and front. All sheet metal, no major systems involved. ruined the hatch.NO encroachment to the actual interior! Destroyed the front of the Nissan pickup truck back to the engine block. From my experience the Prius is one tough little car! Would I buy another Prius? Absolutely, positively yes! **** Mileage now at 35000 . We just completed 2000 + mile round trip emergency evacuation from hurricane Florence. No incidents or problems with the Prius, just drastically overloaded and cramped. 'Cause we had two adults, 3 medium large dogs, 5 kitty cats, and everything it was possible to cram into the car, we took everything that we could not replace. We ran the car continuously for 22 hrs, only shutting it down for refueling, and to ck oil, water and tire pressures . After completion of the return trip our mileage for the trip was down to 43 mpg, which was ok for 1700+ miles of 70 plus mph Interstate, and 300+ miles of poor secondary roads, in this totally overloaded vehicle. I would not advocate or recommend abusing your Prius in this way. I would not normally do it, but at the time we were given a Mandatory Evacuation and Florence was a cat4 Hurricane. In conclusion the Prius performed admirably in every way. P.S. I am always very careful to avoid standing water in the Prius under any circumstance. Our mileage is now returning to normal parameters now that we are home. April 2021. Replaced the factory Yokohama tires with Kumhos. at 40,000 miles. Car is quieter with less road noise, ride is slightly improved. Mileage still ranges from a low of 40 mpg, but usually jn the 48 to 60 mpg area, absolute best was 70 mpg. At 8 years old we have only replaced the car battery, tires, and windshield wipers.Toyota has dealt with everything else including oil changes, and two software recalls So far this has been the most efficient and reliable car we have ever owned. It even surpasses our '93 Previa in reliability.

I bought a 2013 Prius new, largely to drive on country roads with an annual cross-country trip. Vehicle currently has 40,000+ miles on it with zero problems. On the cross county trips I stick to the freeways and it stays above 70 all day long and fully loaded with luggage, average about 48mpg (unless big head wind) as measured by fuel used. Around home I consistently average above 50mpg. Impressive amount of interior space for size of vehicle. Before buying I checked with several taxi drivers who told me they often see Prius cabs with over 300,000 miles on them with no major problems. I'm 6'2" @ 210. Plenty of leg room. Very happy with car and would buy again. UPDATE 9/13/17... now have 84,000 miles on vehicle. Performance, etc. continues as in original review.... very satisfied. Only expenses so far are new tires at 60k, 12 volt battery at 80,000 miles and oil and filter changes at 10k intervals as per maintenance guide. Brake pads still in good shape.. Great car.

It is a Prius. Great mileage, nice technology packages on the trim. It won't win any races, and it might "scream" at you when you want it to get up and go - but as a functional daily driver - or even for economical road trips, it does everything right. So, even if elements in their own right only merit a 4/5 review, the car is great overall. On top of everything, we got a great deal and in the color my wife wanted. This is our second Prius - my brother has one, and my folks have had two - no complaints, a lot of praise.

Purchased car last weekend - $27,500 OTD. Last minute decision decided to buy 72 mo/100K extended warranty that included routine maintenance for 48 mo/45K for $1200. Really enjoying the can so far - it's my wife's first "new car" - she;s always gotten my hand me downs. She drives 100 miles RT to work and she's loving it. I'll update as we own it a bit longer. Update - 9/13/16: still really like the car. However, gas prices are 30% less than they were when we purchased the car. So the economics of the car probably don't pencil anymore. But the car is still solid and my wife is happy with her small gas bills. Capital purchase probably is off the mark. Update - 9/13/17: still liking car. only routine maintenance so far. Mileage is typically 44-48 mpg - strong but not outstanding with today's technology. Still think it was a smart buy - even at today's gas prices. Update 3/13/18: still glad we bought it but gas mileage now runs around low 40’s. By today’s standards there are non-hybrid vehicles that are far less expensive available. But it is a very solid vehicle that performs admirablynwith virtual no maintenance other than the routine.

I purchased the prius persona in july and love this car, I previously had a Honda accord. I recommend the black cherry color, as this is a limited edition color, so there aren't a lot of them out there. this car is loaded with features, and at only 26000 with o percent financing, this was just right for me. I am getting 56 mpg going to work everyday, 24 miles, 17 of them on the highway. I am currently getting about 52 on the highway and about 56 or 57 in the city, I live in Chicago, so the city driving is stop and go, which gets you better mileage, and I have learned how to drive to get maximum fuel economy without being "that guy driving like a grandma". would recommend

I have been researching the Prius for 12 months before buying and during my research I read negative things about the Prius that I find not to be true. This car is not slow and has no problem keeping up with the pack. You don't have to drive like "grandma" to get good mpg's just go easy on the gas pedal and try to stay in eco mode. The car is very quiet and comfortable for long drives and is by no means a compact sedan but a mid-size vehicle. With that said the Prius might not be for everyone but if you have a long commute and like saving on gas with a nice car to boot..... go for it!

A/C Buzzing

My nA/c Buzzes very loud when it is over 85 degrees out side, sounds like a electric transformer on a telegraph pole. I took it in to the dealer and they said your A/C is burning out and needs replaced and they replaced it. Next day same thing I took it back the dealer said that was normal. Yesterday is was not normal today it is normal. Took it to another Toyota dealer they said your A/C unit is burning out and needs replaced and they replaced it. Both times under warranty. Long story but I went into Arbitration and they said just minor repairs very little noise. Well Minor repairs it seems the Arbitrator did not know values 3 A/C units actually equal 41 % of the value of the Prius I don't think the arbitrator was working for me as he should have been. Not satisfied with the dealer at all. turn in at end of lease was not what I was told at the dealer ship and a costly process. They would not let me purchase the car at book value of 14500. they inflated the the buy out price to 21 thousand. Very unsatisfactory people to deal with. the prius was ok but not worth there price I purchased a Nissan Versa Note for half the price only difference is it is not electric and is a great value and car equal and better than the prius. I will never deal with Toyota again.

TRADED IN CMAX AFTER 10 MONTHS FOR THIS PRIUS

2013 Toyota Prius Three 4dr Hatchback (1.8L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

I had decided to buy the Ford Cmax over the Prius without having tried the Prius. I did so because I bought into the hype and I really did like the way the Cmax drove. I also wanted to do the buy American thing. After 10 months and nearly 15K miles, never going over 37mpg, dealing with the many build quality issues (lots of them) I stumbled upon the NHTSA recall for the safety crash thing and said it was the last straw. So I traded in the Cmax for the Prius. And I haven't looked back. The first 3 fill ups were 49, 47, and 45. Already I got the MPG that the CMAX could not. So it wasn't just me. The Prius works great, is comfortable, and is an amazing build quality! UPDATE: We traded in the Prius after 2 years, because of two big reasons. The most important was that the handling at highway speeds of over 55 mph, was not very good, the Prius floated around alot. The second reason was that it seemed being so low to the ground, and all cars seemed like they were going to crash through the rear window/hatch. It was very overwhelming. I'm glad to say that I've gotten a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, which gives good MPG, but also AWD, and sits higher than the Prius. In fact, I've gotten 37 mpg on highway trips, and up to 33 mpg in the city. With the Prius, I seemed to average 37 mpg, and could get as high as 58 mpg on highway trips over 55 mph or less. I wanted to keep the Prius, I loved the MPG, the reliability, and overall the car was mostly comfortable once inside. But getting in and out was rough, and handling at over 55 mph was so bad, I felt no longer worth fighting the car on these long highway drives. Oh, in the snow, the Prius had amazing traction - really amazing. No slipping and sliding, very impressed.
