Overview
Change happens fast with electric vehicles. Take the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan, for example. Mercedes introduced it just last year and is already making improvements one year in. But it's understandable that Mercedes wants this electric alternative to the traditional E-Class sedan to be more appealing compared to other EVs. If you like the EQE's smoothed-out styling, chances are you'll like most other things about it.

EPA Estimated Range
EV batteries lose 1-2% of range per year. Est. range for this car is 253 miles after 8 years.Electric cars typically experience 1-2% of range loss per year with slightly faster degradation over the first 50,000 miles as the car settles into its long term state, according to Recurrent's study of 15,000 EVs.
Estimated range mapThis map is a visual representation of the possible one-way and round-trips by this vehicle (on a full charge) from the geometric center of Columbus, Ohio. The depicted ranges are based on the estimated new vehicle range value provided by the EPA, rounded down to miles for one-way and miles for round-trip. Actual range will vary depending on the condition of this vehicle’s battery pack, how you drive, driving conditions and other factors.

Am I Ready for an EV?
- EV ownership works best if you can charge (240V) at home or at work This typically means a 240V home installation, but you could also have a similar setup at your office or other places your car is already parked for several hours each day. Don't expect a regular household outlet (120V) to suffice unless you've got a plug-in hybrid, in which case overnight charging at home is feasible.
- If you can’t charge at home, charging at a charging station could take at least 10x longer than at a gas station With public charging infrastructure still in its infancy, the user experience can be maddeningly inconsistent. Tesla owners tend to rave about the reliability and speed of the company's proprietary Supercharger stations, but rival DC fast options have thus far been plagued by technical issues and overcrowding. It's an evolving landscape and our best advice is to do your research on the available options for the EV you want to buy.
- Adding a 240V home charging system could cost up to $1,600 or more If your existing electrical service can handle the additional demands of EV charging, you may be able to add Level 2 charging at home for less than a grand, including installation. But your costs will multiply if you need to upgrade your electrical panel or add a dedicated circuit.
Edmunds spotlight: What's new for the 2024 Mercedes EQE?
This year, Mercedes has added a standard heat pump to the EQE's climate system. Heat pumps are more energy-efficient than traditional cabin heaters, so this upgrade can help with maximum range in wintertime driving. In addition, all EQE models have a new braking system with improved pedal feel and brake energy regeneration capabilities. The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment systems now feature a 5G communication module, new streaming apps (Apple Music and YouTube), and a beta implementation of ChatGPT artificial intelligence. The EQE 500 adds a standard MBUX Hyperscreen full-width dashboard display, and all EQE models offer a new 3D digital instrumentation panel as an option.
Competitors to consider
You'll definitely want to check out the new BMW i5 sedan. Based on the redesigned 5 Series sedan, the BMW i5 is priced significantly lower than the EQE and offers a more traditional look and feel than the Mercedes. In addition, both the Lucid Air and Tesla Model S are now priced in the EQE's neighborhood. For a sportier driving experience than the EQE can provide, there's the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan. You might also consider Mercedes' EQE SUV, which is pretty much the same thing as the sedan but with a lot more utility.

Rated for you by America's best test team.Performance
8.0/10
How does the EQE drive? We tested the EQE 350 4Matic. Acceleration is far from blazing — we recorded an unremarkable 0-60 mph sprint of 5.5 seconds at the Edmunds test track — this version of the EQE still has plenty of get-up-and-go. And on top of that, it has better handling than its comfort-tuned suspension would suggest. Around corners, the EQE feels controlled and accurate. Our test car had the optional rear steering system that enhances maneuverability.
Our experience when trying to slow down the EQE, however, was not as good. The EQE has plenty of stopping power for emergency braking. But in daily driving the brakes can feel grabby and unintuitive. There's also an odd feeling during which the brake pedal moves away from your foot during regenerative braking. This makes it difficult, even with practice, to get the sedan to stop smoothly. But it's worth noting that Mercedes says it has improved the EQE's brake feel for 2024, which we hadn't fully tested at the time of our review's publication.

Comfort
8.5/10
How comfortable is the EQE? The EQE has a very smooth ride. It's a great luxury sedan to rack up highway miles in. It's not as quiet as the more expensive EQS but it's very close. The front seats are superbly comfortable and have plenty of adjustments and supportive cushioning. We weren't as enamored with the rear seats, however. A flat bottom cushion and an odd seatback angle make it hard to get fully comfortable back there.
The climate control works well, except in its most Eco setting, where it barely blows cold air. It does maximize range by a few miles according to the car's range computer. But if the sun is out you won't last long in that mode unless your goal is to turn the EQE into a rolling sauna.

Interior
8.0/10
How’s the interior? The cabin's appearance immediately draws you in with its high-quality materials and cohesive, modern design. Unfortunately, the touchscreen interface's organization could use some improvement since some key features, like certain drive settings and audio adjustments, are hard to find. There's a deep level of customization available with this system, but getting it set up to your exact specifications will take a while.
On the upside, finding your ideal driving position is easy thanks to lots of adjustment range for the driver's seat and steering wheel. Adults can fit comfortably in both rear outboard seats and have plenty of room under the front seats to put their feet.

Technology
8.5/10
How’s the tech? Our test car had the standard center touchscreen display. It works well and is in some ways preferable to the full-dash Hyperscreen, which can seem a bit like technological overkill. The onboard navigation system is responsive and features high-quality graphics. Our test vehicle also came with the Burmester audio system, which is absolutely fantastic.
Voice commands triggered by the phrase "Hey Mercedes" work great. You can use natural speech to quickly perform a wide variety of tasks. We also liked our test car's advanced driver aids, such as adaptive cruise control and lane keeping. They worked correctly and unobtrusively to make driving easier.

Storage
8.0/10
How’s the storage? The EQE's trunk is large enough to fit several large bags or suitcases. It does not have a front frunk like the Tesla Model S, however. At first glance, it also doesn't look like the EQE has much interior storage. But then you pop open that cover beneath the center screen and realize that the space is pretty large. The floating console opens up a very big storage space between the front seats, which is perfect for a purse or small bag.
Range and Efficiency
8.0/10
How are the range and efficiency? The EQE 350 4Matic we tested blew past its EPA-estimated range of 260 miles to cover 302 miles on the Edmunds EV Range Test. It was also impressively efficient. On our range test, we measured that it used 34.4 kWh for every 100 miles driven, which is also considerably better than the EPA's estimate.
Maximum charging power for the EQE is 170 kW on a DC fast charger. That's not as strong as some other luxury EVs (the Lucid Air, for example) but it's good enough to get you going without too much waiting. Mercedes says you can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in 32 minutes at an appropriate fast charger in ideal conditions.

Value
8.0/10
Is the EQE a good value? The EQE's tight build quality, upscale materials and luxurious cabin design live up to expectations set by Mercedes' other vehicles. However, you're not really gaining any significant range or performance benefits versus other electric sedans (both luxury and non-luxury). BMW's rival i5 is less expensive too. The EQE is a lovely vehicle to travel in and drive, but it needs to have one more trick up its sleeve to feel fully worth its price.
Warranty coverage is about standard, with four years/50,000 miles of basic and powertrain coverage. The battery does get a longer 10-year/155,000-mile warranty. There are also two years of scheduled maintenance and free 30-minute Electrify America fast-charging sessions included with every new EQE.

Wildcard
7.5/10
In its base 350 versions, the EQE hangs its hat on practicality rather than thrills. It's a very comfortable and smooth-riding EV but not particularly fun to drive. The styling is pretty bland too. The design emphasizes aerodynamics over aesthetics and somehow looks futuristic without being bold.
Which EQE does Edmunds recommend?
While the EQE 350+ is tempting for its value, it suffers from a power deficit. That's why we recommend upgrading to the EQE 500 4Matic, which boasts an extra 104 horsepower and all-wheel drive without any loss of EPA-estimated efficiency or driving range. Among the EQE's many options, the Driver Assistance package is well worth getting because of the many helpful driver aids it adds.
Mercedes-Benz EQE models
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQE is a midsize sedan available as the EQE 350+, EQE 350 4Matic, EQE 500 4Matic, and AMG EQE. In addition, Exclusive and Pinnacle trim packages are available for each version of the car. The EQE 350+ has one electric motor supplying 288 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. For all-wheel drive, choose the EQE 350 4Matic or EQE 500 4Matic, which add a second motor to power the front wheels. The EQE 350 4Matic's total output measures 288 hp and 564 lb-ft, while the EQE 500 4Matic supplies 402 hp and 633 lb-ft.
As of this writing, Mercedes has not announced changes to the performance-oriented AMG EQE. Based on last year's model, this variant boasts a dual-motor drivetrain producing 617 hp and 701 lb-ft of torque. In boost mode, those figures briefly climb to 677 hp and 738 lb-ft.

Very nice EV sedan, with an update

2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE EQE 350 4MATIC 4dr Sedan AWD (electric DD)
This is an update after about 6 months of ownership. This is a great car and has given us no trouble at all. I appreciate the user interface on the navigation and the sound system. I also appreciate the range. It does not have a drunk, but the trunk is spacious. The “sport” drive mode gives it plenty of acceleration.
This is my original review:
We are really enjoying our new Mercedes … EQE 350 4MATIC. It drives great, it's very quiet, the range is at least as good as estimated, the sound system is great, and I like the looks of the car after frankly getting tired of looking at Teslas that have not changed in several years. When I read reviews of this vehicle, the major criticisms were that it didn't have much top-end acceleration on the freeway, the visibility in the back was restricted, and the navigation system is confusing. I can understand those criticisms, but I can live with them. The sport drive mode helps at freeway speeds, and that's good enough for me. If you really want more speed, you might want the EQE 500. The visibility out of the rear window is limited, but again, I can live with that. As for the navigation system, I am already getting used to it. By the way, I have seen many criticisms in the media about the poor fit and finish on Teslas. The fit and finish on my new EQE is flawless!

2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE EQE 350+ 4dr Sedan (electric DD)
We were pleasantly surprised at how this rides and the exceptional build quality. Also impressive is how QUIET it is inside, especially compared with other EVs in its class. And it's a torquey machine too, with enough thrust to allow for motivated merges.
The Baumeister sound system is really quite nice to listen to, lacking any sense of fatigue at elevated volumes over long … distances.
Only detractors are that like most ALL the EVs on the road today, it eats tires more rapidly than bunny rabbits replicate. Ours in particular, with the custom wheel package, grinds down the tread on these sticky 285/35R20s within ~10k miles (if we don't drive 10 mph below the speed limit like a blind granny on her way to get groceries).
Overall it's one of the nicer vehicles we've had the pleasure of leasing or owning.

The 2023 EQE has very nice interior but its electrical system (batteries, motors, charging system) is way behind others. MB salesman told me his 2023 EQE loaner got 280 miles range when new, but dropped to below 240 miles after a year of use.
