Not Worth It

So I got a 2017 used Jeep Patriot. It was in really good condition and it was priced attractively so I took the plunge. Little did I know the troubles it would bring me, particularly in the snowy British Columbian winters. The vehicle's traction control is mediocre and does little to assist the vehicle. Its traction, even with good tires, is minimal at best. The problem is that the car is very light in the back so you will probably be slipping and sliding anywhere there is more than 6 inches of snow. The engine is sluggish. Acceleration is very slow. Cheap build quality. If you've had the pleasure of driving in a better SUV like a Honda or a Ford, and you compare those to the build quality of a Jeep Patriot 2017, it's obvious that Jeep cut a lot of corners. The vehicle just feels light and cheap compared to a Honda or a Ford or anything else. It has a very low centre, so don't take this vehicle off-roading. A foot of snow or ruts on a dirt road will immobilize the Jeep. However, some of the good things I can say are that it has no problem starting in the cold. It starts in -25 to -35C reliably. It has a fair bit of space in the back with foldable rear seats. The heat and AC system works better than any other vehicle I've tried; it kicks in very quickly. If you buy the standard drive, the clutch is very forgiving and smooth, very hard to stall. Final Verdict: Don't be fooled by the marketing. This is not a rugged off-roading vehicle. However, if you are a city commuter or someone that just needs a car that goes from point A to point B, take the plunge by all means. Just be warned that this vehicle does not function well in environments with low traction.

The patriot served it's purpose. I wanted a cheap vehicle and that is precisely what I got. The dash is dangerously low. Something that I was concerned about from the beginning but figured as long as I don't wreck, no problem. I did wreck. It was a problem. However the wreck was a blessing in disguise. As soon as this was out of warrant I had a leaking rear axle. A leaking front axle. Problems with the bushings. I was still making payments on it when I got plowed by a F1500. A head-on would've killed me in this car. The wind noise is a problem, the engine sounds like one of those toy planes you'd wind up the propeller using a rubber band. The insurance cost on this is almost double what my new car is going to be. You are better off with a Crosstrek or other low priced SUV with more safety features.

Rear seat belts

I noticed upon test drive that the rear seat belts were not locking, dealer said it would be fixed, so I bought it. Couple months later had to call 911 the seat belt retracted by itself and so much pressure it could not be released by the belt latch, it pulled my 8 year old autistic son out of his booster seat and belt went under his rib cage cutting him off from breathing, the rescue unit cut the belt to free my son. The dealership checked the belts and found they lock SOME TIME and sometimes not. Chrysler has assigned a case manager but the dealership warned me to get an attorney that their experience will be Chrysler will sweep this under the rug. I am in contact with a firm

Do NOT buy this car because of the CVT, you will hate it. What a dog. The brakes also squeak sometimes which I read is a common problem that they can't do anything about. I bought this car 6 months ago and can't wait to unload it.
