3rd and last Honda - beware of the 2018 Odyssey

We purchased this van brand new in March 2018. This van is scared of vacations. At 800 miles, van speed derated from 70 mph to 40 mph on vacation journey through north Florida. Drove van in limp mode 16 miles away to Lake City, FL Honda dealer. Van was repaired several days later for a stuck valve cylenoid. After returning home to north Georgia @ 1,700 miles, van derated again on highway. After parking, van would not shift into gear and had to be drug onto tow truck sent by Honda Roadside assistance. Van was down for an additional week as spool valve assembly was replaced. Today, at 3,800 miles and three months old, oil is leaking on back side of motor and is dripping onto catalytic converter. Heading back to dealer again. We have created our third case file with Honda N.A. After second break down, Honda NA response was that they didn’t see the van as having an issue and told us they would not be offering any trade assistance towards an another Odyssey in an effort to get us out of the apparent lemon. So much for Honda customer service. This will definitely be the last Honda in our family.

The dealer has attempted to repair the radar in the collision avoidance system 3 times now, and still the vehicle will abruptly stop or slow down in traffic when there is no car in front of it. Most times it gives a warning but twice it has autonomously braked, once at freeway speeds. I was fortunate that no one was close behind me at the time. I'm stuck with a lemon law headache and fearing for my safety when I drive this car. Don't make my mistake, pass on buying this car.

The Odyssey is comfortable, gets pretty good mileage, and has nice safety features, including rear camera, lane keeping assistance, lane change warning, collision avoidance. BUT, my car would not unlock every time, and that's a problem. Sometimes it was just the driver's door, and other times it was all the doors. Also, it has no CD player, and when you try to load music from a flash drive it will alphabetize the tracks rather than play them in the proper order. A pain that they say they cannot fix. After strongly implying that my door lock problems were all in my head, they finally agreed to try to fix the car, but only after I mentioned the lemon law. Whether they will fix it remains to be seen. Nobody needs these problems. Don't buy this car. Update: Yesterday, the dealer told me that the problem was a pinched cable inside the door, and they claim to have fixed it. That remains to be seen, but at least they now acknowledge that there is a problem. Apparently, within a few days, somebody else had brought back an Odyssey with the exact same problem. Overall, I think this is a good car, but a car that locks you out can have a lot of wonderful features and you still wish you had not bought it.

I bought my Honda Odyssey in May 2018 from Open Road Honda in New Jersey. This is my first mini-van, and was excited. After going through multiple reviews, I shortlisted Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Odyssey. My final decision to buy Odyssey was based on outstanding reviews about the vehicle. After two months, I will not recommend this vehicle. My primary problem is with the sliding door. It has a mind of its own - it will abruptly stop functioning and will never budge. I had tow my BRAND NEW HONDA in the very first month because the sliding door did not close. The service folks retained the vehicle for a day to run diagnostics and returned the car a day later. A month later, the problem has come up again. My park is currently parked with the door half open. When I call the service department, they are giving me an appointment a week later. After a bit of curt messaging, they agreed for me to come today. Bottomline - people buy minivan because of its utility for families with children. If the sliding door does not work properly, its a serious safety issue. So, I will not recommend. [[SO MUCH FOR THE MUCH TOUTED JAPANESE QUALITY AND PREMIUM]]

I had 2015 Sienna which was about to end Lease. Family thought of moving into something else after owning two Siennas and shape staying the same. Well leased Honda Odyssey exl 2018 for 499 a month 0 down. no doubt it does have some good safety features more than Sienna but the ride is rough than Toyota. Exterior cheaply made . front and rear bumper not aligned correctly. Had to go back to dealer to have it aligned. Over there I saw other odyssey with same issue. My rear window started making clicking noise . they stated loose connection on a new car with 100 miles. Interior has no compass, seat doesn't go high enough, cheap interior material, went location on side so stupid, no place to stow the middle seat, sliding doors jam, third row has only cup holders, no compartment, no speakers, no sunshade and the window is fixed so you can't open for ventilation!!!. Shame on Honda, my first and last Honda. If my family wouldn't insist, I would've never leased it. Let's see what happens later.
