Update at 1,000 miles
Went to ocean city, md., 320 Miles round trip & the civic did great. Now for some negatives, they are small # 1 on a groved highway road noise is high (turn up stero or avoid groved surfaces) #2 the sun comes in front and raidates heat on your lap & the black dash gets warm( drive with a.C. On or open windows)# 3 stero display washes out in the sun light( shade the display with your hand to read) got 36.5 Mpg on the trip to o. C. All things consiered this car gets me the mpg i bought it for plus its fun to drive . Had the civic up to 80 on a bypass around salisbury where the speed limil is 65 only had it there briefly passing a truck. The cruise control on the steering wheel is nice
So far so good...
I did my homework before buying this car and have to admit that I'm quite pleased. The car "feels" good while driving it and is more sporty than I've expected. The ride is a lot more quiet than comparable cars (i.e. Toyota Corolla and Pontiac Sunfire) The instruments are ergonomically positioned and easy to reach. The interior is visually pleasing. The trunk is more spacious than expected. It's the first time I've ever felt that I got my money's worth from a car purchase.

Head Gasket Problem
I have the EX Coupe model. I put 200K miles in this car so far. It blew a head gasket twice. It cost me $2.5K to fix at the dealership each time. I thought Honda's were supposed to be reliable, but not this model and year. I'd tread carefully if you're thinking of buying a used 2005 Civic. I babied my car too. I replaced my timing belt, water pump, coolant/transmission fluid all at service times/mileage. The transmission seems to be decent at 200K, it slips sometimes but I think it can go another 50K-75K before I see issues with it. A lot of wear and tear after 150K. But that's a given due to mileage (wheel bearings, axel bolts/struts, radiator, starter, etc.). No issues with a/c yet. Let's just say I probably won't go back to Honda since it seems like the same type of repair cost to other car brands.
I Love This Car!
I looked at Corolla's, Scions, Mazda3. None of them offered the combination of sportiness, room, and gas mileage of the Civic Coupe. Yeah the Mazda is quicker, but the reliability and gas mileage of the Civic can't be beat. The Special Edition stereo sounds great. The sunroof switch and cruise control switch are oddly placed, but a small price to pay for the best overall package found in the Civic. Not only that, but I paid $1200.00 below the sticker price. It pays to shop around. The trunk is large for this size vehicle. Ride is quiet, road feedback is superb. Since I rarely have anyone riding in the back, I removed the rear headrests to improve visability. A fabulous car for the money.
Great Car / Value
The 05 Civic EX SE is a awesome!!! This vehicle combines the dependbility & affordability of the traditional civic sedan with some style & pep. Under the hood, a larger engine provides all the pickup you need to get onto that highway from a deadstop with trucks and larger vehicles racing by. Inside the 6 disc CD changer is nice and , sytems cranks , and the dashboard is cool when lit. The spoked 15' alloy wheels and rear spoiler will get you second looks from padestrian traffic so be ready!
