This SUV is such a great combination of having a truck and luxury at the same time. The fact that you don't see too many of them on the road is nice too. It really stands out. It's so comfortable and FUN to drive. Plus, it has all the amenities you want for making long trips or off road trips a pleasure. It handles exceptional for a heavy vehicle, very tight and responsive. I purchased my Land Cruiser at Huntington Toyota in Huntington Long Island, and they were absolutely wonderful to deal with.

The Best SUV Made

I love cars and over the past ten years or so I have owned two GMs, one Ram, and four Toyotas. While not all have been SUVs, there is no question that in terms of quality, construction and reliability, nothing compares to a Land Cruiser. However, as the LC200 dismal sales indicate, many people do not agree. 1) Why pay so much money for a Toyota with bland styling? There is no good answer to this question! If the badge and the styling are the top priorities you are better off with a Mercedes or Land Rover.

Built to Last - The Most Solid SUV on the Road

My 2011 LC Cruiser is by far my favorite car purcahse ever. While I understand why so many dislike the rather bland exterior styling, knock the plastic interior, and question the high price, one drive on and off the pavement will explain why this SUV simply can not be matched by anything else on the road. On pavement the Cruiser handles well and is MUCH easier to park than my old Tahoe. This car always feels solid and safe. Off road this car really comes to life. In the Low drive function in mud, on uneven ground, and on rocky gravel the KDSS suspension makes this car handle like a dream. While the interior is not on the level of a Rover, this car always feels solid, unlike the Rover.

I did a lot of research and test drove every full size SUV, before purchasing a 2014 Land Cruiser. I began the search leaning towards a full size range rover, I also looked at the Mercedes GL which is a great SUV. In fact I traded in my 2011 GL 450 for the land cruiser. If I didn't have young children who like to climb all over the seats in wet bathing suits and muddy shoes I might have been more inclined to drop $110k on the range rover, but I am a traditionalist I really like the old school look, durability and reliability of the land cruiser. While the range rover has some impressive features I just didn't like the new look and found myself looking at used 2012 rovers.

Have been with family for the last 9 years, no issues other than battery, tire replacements. Drives well, enough power, enough space, not too big not too small, can ride 8 if needed, can pack a lot, can drive anywhere, not harsh ride, great turning radius, enough side/rear cameras to check around, heated/cooled seats, no apple car play but system is fast and bluetooth works fine. Doesn't scream attention, complete underdog. I waited to write this review as I purchased this to be no issue/drama family hauler and so far after 9 years, 3 across US trips, living in 3 different states, mission accomplished! it is a legend for a reason.

So, I was looking on the internet for several years and an opportunity landed on my desk with a large THUMP December 2015. We ended up traveling out of state on January 1st to pick up our 2115 pearl white and sandstone interior. MPG has averaged 22.5 @ 64 mph, so the economy was surprising. Quite, a "gliding" feeling as we went down the highway(s) on a 4,000 mile road trip this summer. Pulled into Las Vegas @118+ with temps above 125 in the parking garage. Idaho was great with lows in the 50s with a few 4x4 roads. Montana was long and beautiful and finally North Dakota with it's wheat fields. With the exception of a small vibration in the steering wheel, everything worked great. Climate controls are convenient, and more then adequate. We like the 2015 look vs. the new look. Visibility is very good, and luggage room is more then adequate. We were thinking of taking out the third row to provide a little more room yet no urgency. Engine and transmission are smooth with the 6 speed transmission. Headlights are good and the height/size of the vehicle gives a feeling of safety.

What was Toyota thinking for interior?

I bought the 2009 LC for the new engine and transmission which are outstanding. The interior of my old LC was a light tan. The new interior is three different colors and is like sitting in a cave. Very bad design. Black dash? UGLY!!! The other BIG problem is that you cannot remove the 3rd row seats. Thus, you loose a lot of storage and hauling room. My old LC you could remove the seats in 2 minutes. There is no way to remove the 2009 seats. Toyota, what were you thinking? I haul skis, golf clubs, luggage, go to Costco, etc. I think most owners are like me and very rarely have passengers in the cramped 3rd row (made for kids). This makes no sense.

This is my third Land Cruiser and replaces a 2005. It is an excellent upgrade from the previous version. New powertrain and updated features are excellent, yet it remains quiet and smooth - in its own class among large SUVs. I hesitated some because I liked my 2005 so much, but with about 1000 miles - no regrets in making the switch.

The 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser is as advertised. A classy but understated go-anywhere vehicle with all the creature comforts you'd expect in a $65K SUV. We looked at the Land Rover LR3, Lexus GX470, BMW X5 and several other vehicles but nothing matched our needs better than the Land Cruiser. Toyota reliability, a decent 3rd row seat, lots of technology and creature comforts all in a vehicle trusted around the world to get people through any kind of terrain and weather. If you want a large SUV that doesn't seem gigantic like the Sequoia or Lincoln Navigator, and some offroading or challenging environments are in your future, take a serious look at the LC. You won't be disappointed!

Gave my 2002 LC to my dad after 218,000 carefree miles. Only had to replace the timing belt and water pump at 100 and 200. New vehicle is a huge improvement in terms of interior and ride quality. Memory seats finally! Also, back seats adjust which is great for the kids. On the performance side, I towed my boat this weekend with no problems 120 miles on the highway. Seems solid with 7,880 problem free miles thus far.

2010 Land Cruiser is my second one after trading in 2008 Land Cruiser. It uses Denco gas pedal unlike other Toyotas that were recalled due to their defective CTS gas pedals. Handling the vehicle off the road is exceptional. If allowed by your local dealer, I urge you to test drive it off the road for a true experience.

UPDATE: Still own it and love it more everyday - We are in ocean city New Jersey with another family and last night the 10 of us drove around in the land cruiser with severe flooding, it plowed through everything. There were cars stuck and flooded vehicles that couldn't go anywhere, due to the water, but we had A-blast. Like I said below, we don't always need it, but it sure is fun to have. Look all around the world to see what people drive when they actually NEED to get somewhere, instead of just showing off; you'll find in places like the Middle East, Australia and Africa and in the Antarctic, Land Cruisers are the vehicle of choice because they're the total package in reliability, capability and comfort. In the U.S., Land Cruisers are generally not used to their capacity, but if/when it's needed, it's nice to know it's there: from snow, to hauling, to off road, it's the total package. It's hard to overload this thing with my four kids our luggage, the dogs, stuff on the roof and a boat in tow ... This is my fourth Land Cruiser: I've owned the fj80, the fj100 and now and FJ40 and this FJ200 - 2010 model year. If you're looking at an Escalade or some other shiny American product, look at the reliability and resale first ... sure you can drive around town and drop your kids off at soccer, but with the FJ200 you'll trade some luxury for substance. It's got almost 400 HP, 8,000 lb. towing capacity. You won't always need it, but just in case... as long as you're spending the money. The only problem I have with this truck is that the luxury features you would expect to find for that kind of money just aren't there, no cooled seats, no automatic doors, no automatic headlights - at least in my model year. And the styling is regrettable, unfortunately, but I put up with it on this one because of what's under the hood and how they're designed, it's well worth it.

Following up on my post from May of 2011, I can report that this SUV has performed flawlessly and other than a few nits, reliability has been outstanding. The only problem with this situation is that although my heart would love to look at a newer LC my head says no way. This is a durable and solid performer that begs you to keep it till it can take no more and that is likey many many years from now. Nothing more to say, it is the finest vehicle I have ever owned and since this is my 25th vehicle over the past 33 years that is saying a lot.... Its not cheap but ultimately in this case you get what you are willing to pay for.

Clarification of a previous review is in order. The sequoia is built on the tundra frame and drive system. The land cruiser has a bespoke drivetrain and chassis made only for it.

Simply a magnificent machine! It operates as advertised, and the on road manners are very refined. Off road it lives up to its reputation. The cabin comfort level is unsurpassed IMHO. I truly like the understated exterior styling as it does not draw attention. The Country Club PKG is worth the extra $$. Mileage is exactly as advertised. Can hardly keep the little woman up front as she loves the entertainment system in the back.

This is my second Land Cruiser and I am impressed thus far. My last was a 2006 (last generation) and I was not happy with it trading it in after less than a year. The 2011 has improved in MANY areas. Handling, comfort, conveniences, performance are all significantly upgraded in this generation of the LC.

Simply the best vehicle I have ever owned. who would imagine an 8 year old vehicle claiming this title as compared to many new trucks and cars including the ones I currently own. So smooth and solid, flat on turns, easy to manage and rock solid. It took me months to find this one but worth the trouble.

Any review of the land cruiser needs to start with its build quality and reliability. All Land Cruisers are built around the concept of a 25 year service life and that means more expensive and durable components. For example, the windshield is 2mm thicker than standard Toyota and the entire exhaust is stainless steel and double thick for corrosion protection and no warping/cracking when you dunk it in water hot. So any comparison with a MB GL or a GMC Tahoe that doesn't include reliability comparisons is really missing the point. I'm sure that they are fine cars but let's compare them at 200,000 miles. Also, the Land Cruiser is not really focused on the US market. They only sell between 200-300 per month in the US. The Land Cruiser is built for markets with bad roads and a need to occasionally go overland to get where you need to go. I love my 2015 Land Cruiser. It is understated and works and I fully expect it to keep it through 200,000 miles. It is easy to drive, solid as a rock, goes in any weather, and it is not massive but it can accomplish just about anything you need. Highly recommended.

Vehicle is as comfortable as any vehicle I have ever traveled in. Sound system is perfect. I have owned Mercedes, BMW, and GMC. This Toyota Land Cruiser is my favorite by far.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I walked into American Toyota in Albuquerque and saw a 2010 Land cruiser. I knew right then that I had to have it! It is the most comfortable and quiet drive Ive ever experienced! The over sized navigation screen, the electric beverage cooler in the center console, smart key, a huge moon roof! Too much to list! Absolutely a fantastic vehicle!

So compared to the Sequoia the Landcruiser is much easier to drive and park due to its smaller dimensions. It is also more comfortable and refined. Dash layout better. 3rd row seat not a problem for me but if I had a larger family I may prefer the sequoia because of that 3rd row limitation. Stock Dunlop grand trek tires horrible in the snow. I also like the understated look compared to the newer model and the extra room compared to the 4Runner.

Why The 90k Toyota is NOT Worth it

William, 10/04/2019
2015 Toyota Land Cruiser 4dr SUV 4WD (5.7L 8cyl 6A)
4 of 20 people found this review helpful

I purchased my 2015 Toyota Land Cruiser almost exactly four years ago and I cannot express how deeply I regret my decision. This car has a cult following and in fact, that is what drove me to buy it. However, the promise of everlasting reliability and iconic looks is far overshadowed by the startling lack of equipment for a 90 thousand dollar car (Roughly 97k in 2019 money). For starters here is a list of things that this car does not have that a 2019 RAV4 does: LED headlights, automatic high beams, blind-spot assist, lane-keeping assist, radar cruise control that works under 20 MPH, a power liftgate(!!), 360 camera, soft-touch materials on the lower dash/doors, and park assist. All of these features should but aren't in a vehicle that retailed for 90 thousand dollars. This is besides the lackluster customer service from my local dealer (that is an hour away). For starter, the dealer repeatedly tried to charge me for a Ford Focus I did not buy from them until I had to threaten with a lawsuit. This has NEVER happened with any car I have ever owned and is unacceptable and illegal. The dealer also neglected to change my brakes pads for the 30,000-mile service, even though they were so worn I had to call a tow truck less than a week later because my brakes were metal on metal. The service department does not have a standard checklist and did not replace dangerously worn-out brakes. The dealer also does not provide a loaner. For a ninety thousand dollar vehicle. I could get a loaner for a 30K Mercedes A-Class. Being forced to wait an hour from town in the dealer waiting room for the service to not be completed correctly is unacceptable in any vehicle let alone a 90 thousand dollar one. Also, the A/C has a 2-3 minute delay before coming on and the dealer couldn't tell me why. This is a problem because I live in Texas and 2-3 minutes is enough to harm a small child or dog. So to summarize, this vehicle has lackluster standard equipment, had out of date infotainment even in 2015, gets 12-13 MPG, gets service done incorrectly, gets no loaner vehicle, and costs ninety thousand dollars. Do not let this car's charming looks and off-road prowess fool you. This is a terrible car and should not be purchased by anyone looking for a good way to spend their money. I can't wait to replace this for a 2020 GLS.
