We purchased our 2015 Subaru Forester 2.5i primarily because it was the only crossover on the market available with all wheel drive and a proper manual transmission. Immediately we had issues with oil consumption which the dealer told us was normal. Oil consumption like this is not normal. We also have a BMW with over 250k on the odometer that doesn't consume any oil. After going back and forth with the dealer for nearly two years they finally agreed to fix the problem and replaced the short block, this reduced the oil consumption significantly, but it still needs about a 1/2 to full quart between changes. Around the 80k mile marker one of the rear coil springs broke, it was not under warranty and we were stuck with the cost of replacement. I found this very disconcerting considering the car has never been off road or abused. Then just recently at the 90k mark the passenger CV axle failed and needed to be replaced, again we're stuck with the cost. We bought the vehicle thinking Subaru's are extremely reliable, but this doesn't seem to be the case. I don't mind a bit of upkeep, but while I'm making payments on a car I don't expect to have to put this much into it. Overall it is a decent vehicle, but Subaru quality isn't what it used to be.

In five months I have put over 11,000 miles. It is a limited demo model had 5000 mile when bought. The main reason I bought the forester and not the rav 4 or the crv was the seats, especially the driver's seat. It is very comfortable yet firm. I hope I am not jinxing my car but so far the vehicle runs great.

This car is well thought out size & space wise. The ride& handling is quite good. Interior is well thought out both size & layout of controls. I drove this car for several hundred miles & the seats are very good. The engine had enough power for the flat terrain I live in, the test will be in the very hilly & snowy area my son lives in.

I bought my second Subaru knowing it would be reliable and hold some value. I chose a 2015 Forester. Color is a newer Subaru deep red. Mechanically the car has been as advertised so far. I am new to the CVT transmission but Subaru is not and they seem to have it right. My complaint is with the paint job. I have a 20 year old Ford truck that has less chips in the paint. The paint on this vehicle is the thinnest and poorest quality of any vehicle I have ever owned. This Subaru is the newest vehicle we own and with only 10,000 miles on it, looks older than any of our other vehicles. Thank you Subaru for eleminating another brand from the vehicles I would purchase! I will have to get rid of this one while I can still get something out of it and will never own another. After 59000 miles and 4 years we still own the car. First , the bad; I still maintain the finish is of poor quality. Very difficult and time consuming to make this car look good. Easily scratched and rubbed. After 4 years, I am not a fan of the cat transmission and will do my best to never own another in a car. That is not based on mechanical issues, only personal preference. Shortly after hearing about transmission failures, Subaru extended the warranty to 100,000 miles. Initially I thought that was great but now I believe they may be just trying to avoid class action suits. The good; my wife loves the little car. She likes the way it rides, handles and just zips around everywhere she goes. Believe me, my wife uses machinery to its full intended purpose and beyond. Have had 1 recall, minor, handled by dealer, on 2nd set of tires and original brakes. So far has required oil changes filters and tire rotations. You can’t do and transmission service of any kind is what dealer tells me.

Terrible on icy roads

Had high expectations when purchasing the vehicle as all the reviews were great.....!!! The first time I drove on icy roads I was extremely disappointed as I felt like I was sliding all over the road. You are only able to go about 35 mph and still feel like your in control. The vehicle has very poor traction on icy roads it fishtails all over the road. I also tried new better tires and that did not improve the problem. I am going to get rid of this vehicle as I do not feel safe driving on icy roads. I live in western MI where winters can be harsh.
