2009 Nissan Murano LE 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl CVT)

Bought the 09 LE in late 2008. Had concerns about the CVT since relatively new and unproven. Only maintenance has been routine oil changes and a recall sensor replacement. No issues have arose as of yet which is comparatively amazing next to the 2 dozen other vehicles I have owned. [non-permissible content removed] The technology that Nissan loads in these vehicles easily rivals the $100K German Sedans and in case you've never owned one, you could put 5 transmissions in a Murano for the maintenance costs in the first 150k. And if you are complaining about the audio system, you should see about a hearing aid. Bose makes the best car audio systems available, from the factory or in the aftermarket. You could spend 5 grand on speakers and amps and not come close to the R&D Bose did on the system they through out. Its not the fastest sports car, its not going to win at BAHA nor will it survive an attempt to triple that group of rail road tracks on the other side of town, [non-permissible content removed], it is an excellent car for a small family or even a mature 19 year old. It is easy to drive and can be equipped nearly as well as a BMW or Mercedes, with more room than a sedan and better fuel economy than a Tahoe. It has just about as much power as can be directed through a transmission with no finite gear ratios in what is primarily a front wheel drive vehicle, and that is plenty for anyone that might find themselves transporting anything that might be difficult to replace. I was just trying to see how much more life my Murano has at 150k only to find out most of them explode at less than half that.

Shifting into trouble

2009 Nissan Murano SL 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl CVT)

I thought I had purchased a great car, having no problems until it hit 150,000 miles. It became sluggish shifting from 1st to 2nd gear…..needs a new transmission to the tune of $4,000. I have owned several cars with over 150,000 and have never needed a new transmission. Check engine light has been on for almost 2 years and was told that it is a defect with the gas tank. I will never buy another Nissan!!!

Driven initially bypass my wife, then I took over for the bulk of time as daily driver 4 seasons in the snow /ice belt; never missed an appt or was late to work due to road conditions! one major expense only; alternator after 11 years of daily use. Paint still looks new; washed and neve waxed and no rust CVT transmission still works like a charm. second best and reliable car i have owned in over 50 yrs! just sold it this month at carmax, good cash reserve after 11 plus years.

This is the first review that I have written on Edmunds. We have had our 2009 Nissan Murano SL since early 2011. I am not a fan. Here is why: -- Not a comfortable ride. Very stiff and not agile at all. It is like driving a boat. The seats are comfortable but there is something with the suspension. --Doors are very wide. Hard to park in a normal parking spot. -- CVT (Transmission) is wonky. Not responsive and sluggish. -- Acceleration in general is bad. Not responsive.

We bought this vehicle after looking at and driving many competing suv's. After 2 months and 4000 miles of assorted driving I find that I am overall satisfied with the Murano because it does what we bought it for, larger size, 2 rows of seats with plenty of room between them, ease of entry, and a fair load of features as we have it equipped. However, I find several small items on the Murano that I would like to be improved to make it great. Just my suggestions which I will list below. This SL has premium, technology, and leather packages.
