Driven 100000 plus miles on it already and planning to drive another 100000 on it for another 5 years. It drives good in Michigan road in winter on a virgin snow of up to 4 inches.

This vehicle has a 15yrs 150.000mi extended warranty campaign on the gas tank; hear me out, do not buy it if seller can't prove has been replaced, will leak for sure on rust belt areas. All SM models affected. Other weak points are rear hatch that fails and prevents from according the trunk and poor rust proofing.

Best of the best

We switched from Ford in 2002 and bought our first Santa Fe. Since then we have owned three and have loved every one. Only expenses have been regular maintenance and tires. Warranty has never been a problem with our dealer and all work has been done in a timely manner. I have also owned an Accent and now have an Elantra and would recommend any of them. Fuel economy on the Santa fe is 24 to 27 on the road at freeway speeds. We have 67000 miles on it and never had any problems.

One of the best in it's class

The Hyundai Santa Fe is second best in its class according to consumer reports magazine. It is rated second, right behind Honda CR-V. It is a little more roomy than the CR-V and better warranty overall. CR-V was also a little more expensive. Years ago, Hyundai was not rated very good, but they have made drastic improvements over the past few years.

My second Hyundai

I traded my 2000 Elantra in for the Santa Fe. I wanted a safer vehicle and I know the Santa Fe has a 4 star crash test rating. It handles well in traffic and seems to get good gas mileage. I have only used one tank of gas in two weeks, but my commute is only 14 miles per day. If you are tall you may have to duck to get in but it seems like there is a lot of room once you are inside. It is a very quiet and comfortable ride. It seems like there are no big blind spots when driving. The a/c cools the vehicle down in a hurry too. I also like the cup holders and little holder I can put my cell phone in. Much more luxurious than my Elantra was.

I bought my first HY back in July of 2009. For $12K I got 2006 HY SF GLS 2.7 V6 2WD with 25K miles. Since then I have put 10K miles on it. This car has so far exceeded my expectations. As a guy, I have never fallen in love with exterior of the old style SF, but my wife did and since the car was mainly for her I relented. Gas Mileage is better than the Tahoe and even my current 2003 V6 Ford F150. To be honest, I tried very much to rationally to find a valid reason to upgrade to a newer vehicle with all the recent deals, but for what we paid for and how surprisingly functional it has been and how much the wife likes it, I can’t justify letting it go. I have grown to respect it.

Believe it or not, in 4 years I have put 160,000 on this vehicle and it's rock solid. No issues whatsoever. No power loss, nothing. All I've done is regular oil changes (synthetic) and the up-scale filters. I have changed the front rotors once. This vehicle is just a dream and should be considered by all who are in for a reliable used. Forget the Japanese, they are just too much money for nothing. They don't even look good. I guess people are noting that in a hurry now. The Santa Fe is already the largest selling import SUV in Canada. Good job Hyundai. My next vehicle would also be a Hyundai. The Veracruz or if they come up with a larger SUV then that'd be it.

I bought it a year ago and, even when I see the new Santa Fe on the roads, I'm very proud of my last year's choice ! Nice, safe, excellent warranty and quality, needs only to get the scheduled maintenance and it runs forever... It's nice to have the automatic 4X4, in this way everybody can have it without even think about "when to switch it on" or "how to do it"... it's just there, only when you need it !

My rating for this review is based on the vehicle itself. It is reliable and has never broken down. It is also very comfortable and I can actually see over the steering wheel! (I'm only 5'). I bought it brand new in Aug. 2006 and have regular maintenance and check-ups at my local lube center. I never go to the dealer (they're overpriced). It currently has 74K miles. Don't get me wrong, I love my Santa Fe! But I can't stand Hyundai's inability to cover things that they claim are covered by the warranty. At about 45K my SF wouldn't pass emissions. That was May 2014. I called the dealer because, according to the warranty, it was suppose to be covered for 8 yrs. or 80K for the emissions. It was just under the 8 yr mark. Dealer told me it's not covered, without even asking me to come in to look at it! So I called the 800 number. They gave me the same bs! I had it fixed, Cost 410$. The very next morning the alternator went out as I was backing out of my driveway. Cost me another 400$. I think the mechanic did something to it. The only other thing was at about 54K my SF was hard to steer so I checked the power steering fluid and it was empty. As it turned out, it needed a new hose. It only cost me 94$ for the part and my brother put it on for me. He had a hard time getting to it as it was up behind the engine.
