Bought used last year, 2013
I bought this car used last year as a trade with my mini van. When they first pulled it up I was like, um nope. My husband made me test drive and I fell in love. Mine is brown and black, and this thing is awesome. It is by far the best car I have ever owned. Even the first Hyundai I had, swore never to get another. The gas mileage is great. Put $20 in a beginning of work week and no more until Friday or Saturday. Gets me where I need to go.
Maintenance was clearly an afterthought!
I purchased my Santa Fe new in 2003. Currently have about 69,000 miles on it. Several issues over the last year including, replacing alternator, gas regulator valve, gas return line. A/C cuts on/off going over bumps. Drivers side window is on its last legs. Rear bearings, emergency brake. While the initial purchase price was very good, you wind up paying for maintenance in the long term. Clearly Hyundai engineers did not take maintenance into consideration. Simple things like a spark plug change have to be brought to dealer because the process is very complex. Dealer quoted $520 for new PVC valve, plugs and wires. Currently, I'm lucky if I average 12-13 mpg.
My recent conversion
STAY AWAY from SAN LEANDRO HYUNDAI! WORST in the car business. LIED to me there wasn't a 3.5 liter because didn't have one on the lot. Found on Hyundai website it does exist. LIED to me about the 0% financing but had ad with me so hard to deny. Inept paperwork through mail, leaving half address, getting whole cities states wrong but having correct zip code? Turly did NOT care care once I left with vehicle. Left messages with people trying to help get paperwork sent to the correct address. NEVER got answer. I'll NEVER give them business again, don't deserve it. Sorry but true. Want to build loyalty? Start with those that sell you car to.
Very reliable and affordable
We bought this car new while my husband was in grad school. We've now had the car for over 6 years--we're just under 65,000 miles on the odometer--and have NEVER had a single issue with this car. We get all the scheduled maintenance, plus the recommended maintenance, and the result is a perfectly operating SUV that gets pretty good gas mileage (especially for a 6 cylinder SUV) that's beyond reliable. As a note, my sister has a 2001 Hyundai Elantra that she loves, too. Just like us, she loves her car and has never had any issues. Hyundai has come a long way; their cars are super reliable now!
so far, so good
Researched this car extensively. Compared it to others, and drove several competing suv's. This one lokks like a winner, and so far drives like a winner.
