Honda has been perfecting the CR-V for more than 30 years, so it's no surprise that today's CR-V is one of the most popular vehicles in the U.S. Roomier and more comfortable than many of its rivals, the 2027 Honda CR-V delivers what families want, along with high-quality cabin materials and a dash of sportiness. Following a major update last year, the CR-V continues into 2027 with no significant changes. While we like the standard version just fine, we think the CR-V hybrid is even better, thanks to its quicker acceleration and superior fuel economy. Read our dedicated review of that vehicle here.

We drove the 2027 Honda CR-V on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year.

Driving experience

How does it drive? We tested a CR-V EX-L with all-wheel drive. At our test track, it accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 9 seconds. That's average for a small non-hybrid SUV, but know that this CR-V was about 1 second slower than a CR-V Sport Touring Hybrid we also tested. Around town, we always had enough power to keep up with traffic, though longer highway grades had us wishing for a little more juice. For daily errands and commuting, however, the CR-V easily satisfies.

We found the brakes trustworthy, both at our track and in stop-and-go traffic. Around corners, the CR-V stays composed, and thanks to the responsive steering, you get enough feedback to give you a good sense of what's happening on the road. The CR-V's suspension impressed us by smoothing out many of the rough roads and freeways in our area.

The CR-V has large front and side windows, but the rear view isn't as generous. The wide-angle backup camera helps, but the lack of an available surround-view camera system is disappointing. The CR-V also lacks more advanced features like lane centering (steering assistance to keep you centered in your lane), parking assistance and a driver attention monitor.

Comfort

How comfortable is it? The CR-V interior isn't flashy, but it's definitely functional. Our test team found our CR-V EX-L test vehicle's driver's seat to be comfortable on long drives, and there was enough adjustment range to suit many different body types. The CR-V also scored slightly higher than average for rear legroom and headroom compared to other small SUVs.

Its large door openings make getting in and out relatively easy, and its seats will land at just about hip height for most people, making sliding in a breeze. Honda's car seat accommodation is great, with exposed LATCH anchors and ample space to maneuver a seat into place.

This generation of CR-V has significantly improved noise isolation, and you get only a small amount of wind noise at higher speeds.

While its 9-inch central display is far from the largest in the segment, it's positioned close enough to the driver to reach easily, a good thing, considering there's no other way to operate it. Its menus are simple with a straightforward layout, while the rest of the cabin employs tactile buttons and knobs. We got the impression that it's a cabin that isn't just easy to use but one that will stand the test of time.

In-cabin tech

How’s the tech? The CR-V offers plenty of usable tech features, but on the whole, it's a half-step behind the curve. The infotainment, with wireless phone connectivity, works quickly and is easy to navigate, but the standard 9-inch screen is dwarfed by some rival systems. It's unfortunate the Accord's 12.3-inch screen isn't available here. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a wireless charging pad are all standard, unlike in the Civic. You'll find loads of USB ports, too, with the exception of the base trim.

Storage & cargo

How’s storage and cargo? The CR-V has above-average cargo space for a small SUV, with 39.3 cubic feet before you fold down the rear seats. The cargo area has plenty of width, and the dual-height floor allows extra height to accommodate bulky objects. It's worth noting that if you prioritize cargo capacity, the CR-V hybrid offers less than the standard CR-V and doesn't include a spare tire.

Honda's interior storage might lack a large number of options, but it can still hold a significant amount of your stuff. It has ample phone storage area, good-sized cupholders, and a sizable under-armrest bin. The door pockets are a good size too. The gas-only CR-V can tow 1,500 pounds. While that's not a considerable amount, most of its competitors have similar ratings.

Is it a good value? The CR-V is as well built as some SUVs costing twice as much, and we experienced no shakes or rattles in our test vehicle, even over some crummy city streets. There is a fair bit of hard plastic throughout the cabin, but Honda does well to mask it with soft surfaces and some interesting design elements. In short, the CR-V feels solidly built and worth the price.

Dressed up in our test car's EX-L trim level, the CR-V proves to be a better value than it is at its most basic. The only real downsides are the lack of more advanced tech features and that Honda reserves the CR-V's top trim level, the Sport Touring, for the hybrid powertrain. Warranty coverage is average for the class.

How’s the fuel economy? The Honda CR-V with its turbocharged engine comes in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and has an EPA estimate of 30 mpg or 29 mpg combined, respectively. This is similar to what rival SUVs with regular gas engines achieve. If fuel economy is a priority for you, know that the more expensive versions of the CR-V come standard with a hybrid powertrain that gets up to an EPA-estimated 40 mpg.

The Honda CR-V has a funny way of uniting our editorial staff. Despite our varied preferences for performance, practicality and feature content, the CR-V was well liked by everyone who drove it. Its comfortable seats and smooth ride made the daily commute easier to handle, while its inherent practicality and thoughtful storage options made running busy errands much less stressful. We did wish it could be more fuel-efficient, especially in these times, but no one felt the CR-V was anything other than a well-built SUV that's remarkably easy to live with.

Buying Tips for the 2027 Honda CR-V for October

The 2027 Honda CR-V is moving fast despite hefty supply, so expect modest discounts rather than a fire sale.

Buyers are paying about $1,000 below MSRP on average, and there are no general customer rebates to stack on top. That puts the Edmunds Suggested Price a bit under sticker, with the strongest trim deal on the Sport Touring Hybrid at about $1,600 off, or roughly 3.6% off MSRP.
New inventory is plentiful at about 37,200 vehicles nationwide, which gives you room to shop dealers against each other. EX-L stock is especially deep, while TrailSport Hybrid is much tighter, so the latter may leave you less choice on color and equipment.
The median days to turn for new CR-Vs is 10 days versus 16 for the average new vehicle, so demand is clearly above average. That means good CR-Vs do not sit long, so move quickly if you find a strong price.
Honda is also offering promotional financing as low as 4.99% for 48 or 60 months for qualified buyers. That is far below market rates and can save you real money over the life of the loan.

The 2027 Honda CR-V is a compact SUV available in seven trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Sport Hybrid, TrailSport Hybrid, Sport-L Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid. The LX, EX and EX-L trims come with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the remaining trims use a four-cylinder hybrid powertrain for increased fuel economy. Which CR-V trim does Edmunds recommend?

If you don't want the hybrid model (and we think you should absolutely check it out), we recommend starting at the EX trim level for niceties like keyless entry and blind-spot monitoring. For our money, the EX-L is the sweet spot. It's the most expensive non-hybrid, but it's not significantly more than the EX. We appreciate its add-ons, which include a power liftgate, a power-adjustable passenger seat, and useful parking sensors with automatic braking. If you can stretch your budget a little more, the CR-V hybrid (which we review separately) is quicker, more refined and more fuel-efficient. The EX-L equivalent is called the Sport-L Hybrid.

Competitors to consider

The 2027 Honda CR-V is one of many great small crossover SUVs. Our favorites are the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage. These corporate cousins offer their own distinct takes on a small crossover, but both are comfortable and roomy. As with the CR-V, we prefer the Tucson Hybrid and Sportage Hybrid over their non-hybrid counterparts. The CR-V's longtime competitor, the Toyota RAV4, got rid of the gas-only engine entirely for its 2026 redesign. Now available solely as a hybrid, the RAV4 shares many of the same strengths as the Hyundai and Kia, but its interior design and materials are less impressive.
