Pfffft
Lots and lots of never ending electrical problems from year 1. Constantly needed tune ups about every other oil change.
Pain in the butt!
I bought this truck used with 26000 miles on it.The cushioning in the drivers seat was completely worn down, and I can feel the steel pan whenever I drive. The door ajar light will come on,and the dome light will stay on(theres no off switch on the light).I only get 20 mpg in mixed driving(w/the 2.5 4cyl.)And The mass air flow sensor will malfunction causing the engine to hesitate and stall.Ive owned 2 toyota's prior to this, and will sell this p.o.s and buy another !
My Ranger
This is the 2nd Ranger that I have owned. My 99 4x4 has been a great truck. I love to drive it and she performs great off road. I take her hunting and sometimes sleep in the back (has a shell). I put on a set of B.F.Goodrich All Terrains and the off road performance got better! I also utilize a K&N air filter and with my 4.0 I get 24mpg. Great Truck, I Love It!
A few problems
First the engine; I haven't had any mechanical problems with the engine, it has 130,000 miles on it so far. I had to replace the bearings. The door ajar light used to stay on. The dome light has some issues. My speedometer cable currently isn't working. I get about 25 miles a gallon, with the 4 cylinder, which is pretty slow to me.
Bad luck-truck
Recalls, recalls, and more recalls. Poor accelleration, problems with clutch, tinkling noise while driving, howling noise while going into 1st, squeeling while starting (pully coming loose), front tire rubbing on controller arm, probs w/ cruise cntrl, bad tires, wiper motor, water pump...the list goes on. Most of all we had problems with Ford dealerships being able to diagnose any of our problems. They always seem to have an excuse for every noise..."oh that loud noise is normal" or "we hear it but it isn't anything important."
