No Compromise

2018 Chevrolet Cruze LS 4dr Sedan (1.4L 4cyl Turbo 6M)
If you want a car with class leading MPG that still has all the creature comforts like electric windows and air conditioning, a smooth engine and supple ride, and still delivers over 50 highway and about 35 city MPG — then this is a no brainer. Most importantly it feels solid with heavy doors that embody GM’s focus on passenger safety. It’s got handling precision yet doesn’t feel … lightweight on long trips. I have the manual tranny model LS, a choice of those who take on a full driving experience.
I over-revved it one morning and the check engine light came on. I found no other driving issues but brought the matter to the dealer’s service dept on my way home.
They said it was too late to start working on it but would do it the next day and gave me a loaner to drive meanwhile. They found out that just some carbon had settled on a sensor and fixed the problem.
Their loaner-a Cruze LT automatic-was not any appreciable difference over the LS other than the slightly better speakers. Offsetting that, it transmitted more engine vibration- felt through the steering wheel-and had more road noise with it’s wider tires& aluminium wheels. The auto slows the car down off throttle.
Sometimes the bottom of the front air dam hits the road when you are exiting a parking lot over a sloping sidewalk.
Still not caught up with the imports

2018 Chevrolet Cruze LS 4dr Sedan (1.4L 4cyl Turbo 6M)
Got a brand new one as a rental in Nashville. The car seems to handle well with plenty of reserve torque in passing situations and no hesitation when one stomps on the gas. Really impressed with the trunk capacity of this sedan. It held two huge suitcases and some smaller bags. One small item really bothered me...the backup camera. It was so fuzzy and pixelated, as to be almost dangerous … to use. I ended up bypassing it and going old school by craning my neck. Interior is not noticeably cheap and the seats were fairly comfortable. The dash, especially at night in my opinion had a cheap toy look, blue readouts on black that didn’t seem especially organized if not outright confusing. For the limited amount of driving I did, I managed to go though a tank and a half of fuel. Not sure of the tank capacity, but consumption seemed rather high. Otherwise it is more than adequate as a small inexpensive sedan.

2018 Chevrolet Cruze LS 4dr Sedan (1.4L 4cyl Turbo 6M)
I have this vehicle since brand new and it's been 6 years of ownership now. I absolutely love this vehicle. It had great features as standard back in 2018 and it still holds up. Never had any mechanical issues so far, just regular oil changes. The handling is great, the speed and acceleration are good. There is of course a lag from the turbo (this is the same for any turbo charged … vehicle), but the car still accelerates quickly when overtaking a vehicle. Braking performance is great and you always feel in control while driving. My wife, who drives a Jeep, always say my car is so zippy and responsive. And this thing is incredibly fuel efficient. My commute is mostly highway and I constantly get 40-42 mpg in my daily commute and 36-38 in the city. During multiple road trips, I saw averages above 50mpg. I'm really satisfied and happy with my purchase since I drove it off the dealership's lot. If I could go back in time, I would buy it again without a hesitation.
Edmunds Summary Review of the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze LS Sedan
What’s new
- Optional diesel engine now offered on sedan and hatchback versions
- Part of the second Cruze generation introduced for 2016
Pros & Cons
- Pro:Feels sporty and planted around turns
- Pro:Touchscreen interface is easy to use
- Pro:Available diesel-powered engine for high fuel economy
- Con:Gas engine's disappointing acceleration and real-world fuel economy
- Con:Engine stop-start cannot be disabled
- Con:Front seats aren't particularly comfortable
Which Cruze does Edmunds recommend?
We're not fond of the standard 1.4-liter engine, but the diesel engine's significant price premium — at least when new — makes it hard to justify. As such, it's probably best to get the gas engine in the midrange LT trim. The LT has a decent mix of options yet remains competitively priced. Look for the optional Driver Confidence and Driver Convenience packages to get some extra safety and, yes, convenience features.

Driving
8.0With 153 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, the Cruze's turbocharged 1.4-liter engine should be competitive. But the power doesn't come on strong until high in the rev range, which blunts acceleration. Everything else, from the strong brakes to the adept chassis, is very well-sorted.
Comfort
7.5Given the relative lack of seat adjustments and the forward-angled headrest, it might take some fiddling to feel truly comfortable behind the wheel. The ride is pleasant, even with our tester's 18-inch wheels (the largest the Cruze offers). Mandatory engine stop-start is far from seamless.
Interior
8.0The Cruze might be classified as a compact car, but few will find the cabin confining. There's plenty of shoulder room for all outboard passengers. The raised center tunnel limits the usefulness of the narrow middle seat. The controls and gauges are mostly easy to get along with.
Utility
8.0Like many compact sedans, the Cruze has a sizable cargo area with a flat load floor and little intrusion from the wheelwells. The 60/40-split rear seats fold down should you need extra space. Inside, there are numerous cubbies for you and your friends to store various small items.
Technology
8.0Other than the subpar performance of its voice recognition software, the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system is one of the best in the business. The interface is attractive, uncluttered and, most important, easy to learn and operate. Standard Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is a major plus.
