OK Truck

I missed not having a 4wd truck but I didn't miss the 14 mpg. So I got this Colorado. The mileage is OK, I have gotten 22 to 23 mpg on the highway. Around town in drops right off to 16- 17 mpg. I like the looks. It does ride a little rough , but it's a small 4wd with the off-road package, so that's expected.

Sometimes the professional reviewers from Edmunds, Consumer Reports, etc are just too picky because my Colorado Z-71 has been a great truck! It has 24,XXX miles now. I have had ZERO problems with it! It gets about 24.5 mpg on highway and a combined 23 mpg recently with in town and highway driving. This little truck has been very reliable and the build quality that Edmunds pans is not seen on my truck. It is still rattle & squeek free and overall impression is that of a real solid truck. The only complaint, although it is not the truck's fault, is that the OEM M+S tires are noisier than I like. I will replace them for quieter ones when these wear out but they are wearing like iron!

Since I don't need a full-size truck, I moved from a '99 GMC Sierra to the Colorado. I bought this one used with 45,000 miles and I must say that I love this truck. I think I have a rare model, since it has the leather option with the LT2 trim level, which usually comes with the LT3 trim. The best thing that I ended up with in this truck is the optional 5.3L V8. In a mid-size truck like this one, the power to weight ratio is unbelievable. 300hp and 320 ft/lbs of torque is on tap and I can tow up to 6000 lbs with it. The experts are idiots--they slammed this truck in their reviews, but on average, the owners have given very high reviews.

Great Truck - 2WD, 4 cyl, crew cab

I test drove this truck with hesitation after reading the editors review. I tested the Colorado vs the Tacoma. The Chevy won in all categories, in my opinion, except interior design. Contrary to the editor review, this truck is quiet, comfortable and has plenty of power to get you moving and do light truck duty. The truck is not at all bouncy and rides like a car. Chevy added some nice touches to the package I bought like chrome door handles and really sharp looking chrome wheels. A similar Tacoma would cost much more. It braked much better than the Tacomas squishy brake petal and had more power. I never realized how much fun to drive a small 4 cyl truck could be, but it is.

This is my second Colorado Z71 Crew Cab. Loved my 2004, so bought another one. Based on my research, it has the best mileage in its class. Ride is great for a truck. People often comment on the nice ride. Back seat is very roomy.

Bought new Aug. 09 with V8 and 4WD. I've had more compliments on this vehicle than on any I've ever owned. V8 power is great and mileage isn't bad.Very comfortable to drive, my ONLY complaint in over a year of ownership is interior wind noise at highway speeds. I've had no problems at all so far.

I loved my '05 Colorado so much I bought a 2010. It is a great little truck. Though the automatic "bogs down" if you tromp on the gas peddle too hard too fast(something that did not happen with the manual transmission in the '05), the performance is good, gas mileage is good, and the truck is very comfortable to drive. The interior is roomy even though it is not an extended cab. It is a basic truck that meets my hauling needs without the expensive bells and whistles, and I recommend the Colorado to anyone needing a smaller pickup that does the job.

I was lucky enough to get an '09 Z71 model with Tow/Chrome package at only 30k miles for a great deal. I chose the Chevy Colorado because of it aggressive look as oppose to Tacoma bubbly styling and Frontier. I made some minor interior upgrades to make the truck a nicer ride. The truck is not a luxury car but the interior is better looking than it's competitors The ride is bouncy but is expected from a truck with big tires. It has good suspension, going over bumps with ease. is greatThere are minor squeaks but I don't mind. The gas is decent. I get on avarage 20 MPG, $40 on full tank takes me 320 miles - city/hwy. The truck has been very reliable, practical, and fun to drive.

This truck delivers reliability, economy, comfort and low maintenance. These are the most important elements of ownership for me. As such, I will likely buy American again although I've been an import buyer historically. The only issues I've had were 2 tire pressure monitors at the wheel fail. Otherwise, still excellent. At 56k I put new tires on only because the originals were dry rotted. Still has the original brakes! Truck is garaged and looks like new after 13 years. No problems! Currently has 58,200 on the odometer.

I like the handling. It seems to respond better to the touch. The power is quite good. I like the roomy cab. I don't usually carry 3 in the front but now have enough room to do so. The rider can stretch out and is less cramped than in my old S-10. I seem to ride higher and get a better view of whats going on around me. My wife likes this feature.

I've owned my 2010 Colorado since May '14 and it's been a great truck. The best features are the handling and the 5.3L V8, but my overall rating is excellent. I've had some minor issues with the wiring and electronics, but I think that's pretty common with the 1st generation Colorado. I did have to replace the front brake pads/rotors last fall after at 85,000 mi but still on the same battery. I've replaced the tires, had to have the HVAC switch on the air conditioning replaced and fixed 2 broken wires in the ext cab doors (design defect). I did have to replace the 4wd front driveshaft cv joint last winter. My only complaint is the common electrical issues that most of these 1st gen Colorado's have had. The engine is very powerful...especially in a mid-size truck like this one. I can tow 6000 lbs...more than enough to tow my snowmobiles, ATV's, etc. Handles like a car, works like a truck, and she can plow through some pretty heavy snow with the 4-wheel drive (I've never been stuck yet). I have had some body rust issues now after 4 northern NY winters. I had it rustproofed again this spring and I have a rocker panel that's starting to get some surface rust but that's common around here. I probably will have it replaced next spring since I still plan on driving the truck for at least another 3 years. All in all, it's STILL a great truck and I would still recommend it to anyone.

Solid Little Truck

This little truck is absolutely solid. I don't tow anything, but I do work in enterprise-scale IT, and constantly load multiple heavy servers that are 90-100lbs each in the bed, or all of my camping supplies for me and the 3 friends riding with. In the last 4 years and 50k miles, I've had no mechanical issues other than replacing the fuel level sensor in the gas tank and other general maintenance (hub bearings at 100k, tires, etc). I did proceed to reach out to the 355 nation forum to get minor, tasteful upgrades, such as a ported throttle body and "supersparks" coil-over spring delete mods, which have woken up this motor nicely! For a 5 cyl, it's very torquey (and sounds great with a Flowmaster Super 44), and I've taken it trailing through national forests in treacherous weather, through creeks and streams, with a full load in the cab and the bed, never getting stuck or stranded. As my daily driver on the interstate and around town to work sites, its very smooth and a great ride. My only complaint is the GM plastic interior. There's a couple of HVAC vents and the dash that rub and pop from occasion of plastic-on-plastic rubbing, and it's mildly annoying. But, the reliability I've had out of this motor and transmission, I'll overlook plastic aesthetics everyday to know I'm getting in a truck that'll always get me where I'm going. I will happily drive it til it dies... if it does.

The Colorado I purchased has chrome accents and running boards. With the 17 inch aluminum wheels and metallic paint it is very sporty and looks good. The ride is smooth and the 5 cylinder engine has plenty of snap. The leather interior is nice, the only thing I do not like is the console area and heat/AC controls. For as nice as everything else is that part seems a bit cheaply done.

I just purchased a new Colorado after owning an S-10 for the last seven years and 160K miles. I did a great deal of research prior to my purchase, focusing mainly on the Tacoma, Frontier and Colorado. Both the Nissan and Toyota received higher reviews from the auto experts, but the consumer reviews were mostly positive for the Colorado. I have only driven this new vehicle for a couple of weeks and my initial impression is that I like it...very much. I drove all three and the Colorado seemed to have what I was looking for. I loved my S-10 and if I enjoy the Colorado half as much, it will have been a great purchase.

09 Colorado with 5.3 V8

I have to disagree with the Edmund's reviewer on my vehicle. With the 5.3 liter V8, this truck is more like a sports car with lots of power. The ride is better than I expected from a truck and the interior, although not fancy, is nice. I passed up on a much more expensive "quality" truck with fewer features and less power due to GM incentives and great pricing. I'm very happy with my decision.

I feel that the reviewer missed the mark on the Chevy Colorado. The inline 5 has plenty of power and this small truck is easy and comfortable to drive and park. As an owner of a construction company I have driven almost every make and model of pickup and i find that the Colorado gives you the best value for your buck.

I was in the market for a truck that offers the following options: fuel efficiency, room for four tall adults/teenagers, and light duty hauling for the occasional new appliance or household item. No towing requirements. It came down to a choice between the Tacoma and Colorado. As long time Toyota 4- Runner owner (216,000 miles), I became a first time Chevy owner based on the extra leg room in the back, a few additional stock features, and overall price savings of about $2k. I usually keep my vehicles for 10-15 years. The 4-cylinder obviously doesn't have the power of a V8, but is peppy enough for my use. Time will tell if my choice was right, but so far I'm very pleased.

So far I love this truck even more than the 2000 S-10 extended cab it replaced. I've had many compliments on the color and exterior. I have gone from filling up 7 times a month to 3 on average(though some of that is due to a larger fuel tank). The ride is smooth and the seats are comfortable. The engine seems powerful enough, though I miss the V-6 sound from my S-10. The only real complaints I have are the stereo since they are behind the times and don't have a usb or audio input for an MP3 player. It also seems it could use more interior storage besides the glove box and the arm rest.

Recently bought a 2010 and have been through a first Vermont snow storm. Comfy little truck that does well in the snow. Don't understand the negative comparison with the more trendy Tacoma. Tried out Tacomas and found them kind of jarring and uncomfortable to drive. They are also really bad on fuel economy. This Colorado, despite its age, drives like a car mostly, except it does well on washboardy dirt roads. Interior is nice and dash is easy. Great little truck for someone looking for a daily dependent, get from point a to b comfortably under any conditions. Can't speak to reliability yet, but has a solid reputation.

Overall a nice smaller sized truck. Gas mileage is okay at best, average 22 hwy and city. I've had few issues with since I bought it new in Sept 09. 1st, the battery continued to fail and leave me stranded over and over, the dash board creeks, pops, and whatever noise you could imagine, and lastly I get moisture in the oil over and over again. Dealership says its fine.

I just bought my second Colorado. I owned my first one for 1 1/2 years and would still have it if my kid hadn't outgrown the jump seats in the back of the extended cab. I bought a new Crew Cab, and it is much roomier. Chevy really improved the truck for '09. The brakes operate much more smoothly. Standard OnStar is a nice touch for the price. The new body color trim with chrome accents make the truck look more stylish, and the new chrome wheels look great. The old truck was pretty bulletproof and economical (21 mpg in everyday driving and 27 on trips). As a repeat owner, I am very pleased with this economical, reliable everyday truck, and I would recommend it without hesitation.

I just purchased the Colorado a few weeks ago after driving a 1995 Nissan XE pickup for 14 years. I was reluctant to give up the Nissan because it had been a very reliable and solid vehicle but I was able to give it a good home with a family member. I am enjoying the ride, styling, comfort of my new Colorado. I like the fact that it appears to be a scaled down version of the Silverado. I have the 4 cylinder engine with the automatic transmission and it has good power and adequate acceleration. The gas mileage is pretty much what I obtained with the Nissan about 22 mpg. Overall I like the vehicle and have received numerous compliments about it.

I owned an extended cab 2010 Chevrolet Colorado that I purchased with only 63,000 miles on it. I had to trade before the truck even reached 109,000 miles due to the electrical system. The radio would randomly come on and drain the battery. The Chevrolet dealership in Chanute, Kansas could not fix the problem. After three weeks of this I finally had to trade. I’ve never had a vehicle with this sort of problem. Why are you making vehicles your dealerships cannot fix?

The 5 cylinder engine is both peppy and runs smoothly. This WT model is bare bones with hand crank windows, manual adjust mirrors and seats; great for a truck. Only one shortfall, it lacks a box hitch which should be standard on a work truck. Options offered for model didn’t list WT EXTENDED CAB 4WD 3.7L I5 which it is. All in all it is a little beast that will run a long long time.

I bought this truck used a few years ago. It had 68k miles and now I’m at 108k. No issues what so ever. Everyone seems to be more comfortable in the backseat then the front,(including my wife @6’0”). I enjoy the truck, it pulls my pop up without hesitation, and I even sleep in the box under the topper from time to time. The only complaints I would have are wind noise at highway speeds and the fact the my gas pedal leg will get cramped after long drives. And I have made many long trips driving other vehicles with no cramping. My truck is the crew cab, 4x4 with no trim level badging and it has the 3700 I-5 engine. Yes, I would recommend this truck to others.

I have a 2009 Chevy Colorado crew cab 4WD Z71 with the 5.3 liter engine & it is black in color. This little truck has more power than anyone will ever need. I also own a 1966 Chevy Chevelle with a 427 big block in it & I really do know what real horsepower is & this little truck has it. This little truck also has a full frame which gives it a strong foundation. The inside of this truck has plenty of leg room also. The interior is also real nice with the chrome touches.General Motors did one great job on this little truck. It has it all. Also when it comes to parking this little truck it is just really ease. I tip my hat to the people of General Motors for this great little truck.

Traded in my 15 year old S-10 on the cash for clunker deal. Nice enough truck. The front seats are a little cheap. The floor pan is up much higher that I am used to, feel like you are sitting in a little kid chair. If I plan to keep it for a while I will have to yank the bed liner out as it is starting to leave a gouge in the paint on the tailgate and front wall lip. Very roomy both front and rear. Plenty of power, at least for me. Weird thing about the cash for clunker deal, I got $3500 for my S-10 because the gas mileage on the Colorado was supposed to be better. I got 20 mpg consistently with the S-10. I get maybe 18 with the Colorado.

Do not buy this vehicle. If you only have a 10 minute drive to and from work OK but as long as it doesn't snow. Don't worry about talking on your cell phone. There is so much interior noise at times you can't. Only good thing, I didn't have to pay for it. The price is our of line with quality. Poor gas mileage, only gets 19mph with the inline 5cyl. Rough ride and uncomfortable seats. Could this be one reason why Chevy needed a bail-out.

Purchased in February 2010 (actually Oct/09) was told delivery would be 6-8 weeks, it arrived in 17 weeks. Love the truck's styling, and comfort but, have had rear spring bushings replaced, wiper transmission replaced, wiper switch replaced and front wind- shield re-sealed. Still have a "clunk" noise when turning corners, all before 2,400 km. 4,100 km now but gas mileage is poor, 17 city, 21 highway [mpg]. I drive it nice not hard.

I bought a 2009 sle canyon v-8 about 2mon. ago it is by far one of the nicest little trucks I have owned or drove ever , it has enough power for about any thing a smaller truck could be used for . I haven't pulled with it yet but I will be trying that very soon , I hope it will pull 3 baggers I fell like it should an hope it will , the interior is really comfortable an I have read many reviews about it an most say the finish is no good like the interior but I thank it is as nice as any I have seen , I don't really understand that but I guess there is a reason but I don't know . An guys an girls the handling is great right on just can't find any after market air filters an pipes V8

Okay so it shows 4cyl but I have a 2009 chevy colorado ss (8cyl, 5.3) which is very rare! It's been a blast driving it, leather power seats and an awesome bass. It drives okay, probably better if newer, the worst thing about the truck is its very low to the ground and it's sucks on gas.

Just picked up vehicle today---to early to rate anything. There are 3 things I would suggest be changed. The rubber floor mats are worthless, to slick and you can't really even use them, the steering wheel needs to be covered, also to slick, the CD drawer needs complete revision. You almost need to stop the vehicle to return one to the holder. Not well designed.Irv
