Consider yourself lucky, I just got a quote from my local Nissan dealer for >>$2100 to replace the seat (mechanism) the bottom part , not the actual leather seat. The car is a 2003 with 131,000, and I will ride on a milk crate before I spend that !!!!
Your story and mine are EXACTLY IDENTICAL (even down to the car problems, but i've had more problems with my car than what you have listed). I'm frankly at a loss for words on what to do with this vehicle. I will not put my 14 month old's life in jeopardy, and if i have to take a loss on this car i will. But it burns me to see Nissan ... I am 100% with you my friend. My 2003 Murano has been a problem from the start, and all my options to get rid of the car, or maintain it, leave me in serious debt. I HAVE, LITERALLY, PAID MORE IN FIXING THE CAR THAN I HAVE PAID ON THE CAR NOTE!!!! I HAVE RECORDS TO SHOW IT! There are inherent issues with the CVT, and Nissan needs to acknowledge and ... My idiot son wrecked my 2003 and to make a long story short I am trying to figure out if it's worth saving. It has around 64 thousand miles on it. Transmission was replaced around 45 thousand. Bank One and Two both went out? Sounds like a blown fuse. The intake control fuse isn't listed in your owner's manual. In fact, none of them are! I guess you have to go one by one.
I know some are tired of me saying this; and, I don't wish to spam this thread; but, I would see if the dealer will take the car off your hands. Look for something else in the their used car selection. A Toyota or Honda would be a safe and better vehicle. Sorry for your pain. My concern for you is what I went through. They kept replacing components in & ... Read More
Update:03 Murano is finally bye bye. After those same issues 2x and almost $5600 later I finally got somebody to take it off my hands. I purchased a Toyota 4runner. Never another Nissan.
The CVT transmission is fabulous when its working. Mine appears to have failed now with the following symptoms. Do a Google search for Nissan Murano Hesitation for the sad story. Hesitation... I didn't miss anything Mike, nor did I ever say the problem does not exist. Smarty666, Sorry. Your words & view on this issue are not at all acceptable. Many first year vehicles are highly successfull, and DONOT display the problems the Muranos are exihibiting. I checked, AND, the 2009 - 2011 Muranos are still using the same ... Read More

I had to replace the transmission on my 2003 Murano at just over 100,000 miles to the tune of $5K. I really think that the techs at the dealerships are flying blind. My dad used to own Ford & Chrysler dealerships and they receive regular technical bulletins for each model that they support. My 2003 Murano is currently sitting at Nissan with a bad transfer case. Can't decide what the real options are. What reimbursement plan are you talking about? Now I have a solution. ----- First a summary, 6 months ago with approx. 88.5 K miles I started experiencing a 4-6 second hesitation when stepping on the accelerator in bumper-to-bumper traffic after the car was warmed up. There ... Read More
Yes, pressure varies directly with temperature, provided neither the volume nor density of the gas changes! However, the original problem was that the pressure reading did not change with temperature. That's why a faulty pressure sensor was suspected. tidester, host SUVs and Smart Shopper
The relationship between pressure and temp is constant. If the temp increases, the pressure increases too or P/T=K. This explains the fluctuation.
I've been happy with my '03 Murano but in thelast month experienced accelration problems from a direct stop once the car had warmed up. Foot to the floor, no movement for about 10 seconds and then the RPM's would begin to rev above 1100 RPM and suddenly thecar would move. Engine runs fine once engaged. It needed a State inspection so I asked the tech to check the codes- his response- ... Read More
No offense but if you are asking me how to fix it you are in big trouble. Take it to an auto body shop and get a free estimate -- they will break down the procedure and you can decide if you can do it. Might be simple or might involve removing sheet metal and panels. Who knows? good luck.
I would rather fix it myself. Do you know of any way to fix it?
You could go to any local autobody shop and have it fixed.
The problem is with the tailgate door hook. The hook stays in its position but is no longer bolted down. The nuts must have fell off and the hook is really loose. And now my navigation screen is telling me the door is open. The door does shut but moves too much. Is there any way for me to bolt this hook down without going to the dealership? Any help would ... Next time you have your tires rotated ask if they can disable the system. Each wheel sends data but you only know at least one tire is low -- not which one.
I would rather not spend the $750.00. Dittos! tidester, host SUVs and Smart Shopper
Well thats the only thing I can think of that it would be! And intead of changing the sensors and it possibly not being the issue I would rather not spend the $750.00. So I would rather just shut them off if I could.
the temperature changes here ... even though the tire pressure stays the same! How is that possible? Can the pressure gauge be faulty? tidester, host SUVs and Smart Shopper
Hello I have a 2003 murano and I love it! The only thing that I wish I could turn off is the TPM sensors. I live in Stienbach Mb CA and the temperature changes here so drastically fast my sensors go off all the time even though the tire pressure stays the same! The beep is sooooo annoying! any tips on tuning them off of anything along those lines?
Bigeasy51, I had Nissan flush my tranny with my scheduled service and it did not help my vehicle. The delayed acceleration problem came back in about 2-3 months. I took it back to Nissan and they changed my throttle bottle chamber. Again, after a while, the problem came back. I hope you will have better luck than me. I've also posted a recall notice from NHTSA for the Muranos for an ... Read More
Hey krpaplham & jayrider, Thanks so much for the input from both of you...jayrider is right - sometimes the frustration with a company just makes you want to lash out! And boy do I feel like lashing! Especially since our saleperson in 2003 used the CVT as a selling point because it was a "sealed system and never needed servicing!" I'm definitely going to go the route of a "flush and ... Read More
I have a 2004; had the same issue around 70,000. It would hesitate in stop and go then suddenly take off, even had some slowing and then accelerate on freeway. Took it in and Nissan said needs a new trans; took it to another dealer and had the trans fluid flushed/changed for about $160 total and it ran fine. (Someone suggested in e-mail on edmunds a couple of years ago) Spoke ... Read More
I absolutely agree that my comments are objective and made without all the feelings of outrage you have in this regard. But as you said -- you have several choices. Only you can decide what's best for you -- good luck. I would still check other repair options -- costs you nothing to get estimates. Just because nissan said you need a new transmission doesn't mean it's true. They don't want ... Read More
