Re: Purchased 2005 Acura MDX with problems [blondie21dj]
Written by: andilea on Mar 30, 2010 10:27:35 AM
I have a 2001 Acura MDX and it has 79,000 miles on it and has been making the rumbling noise for months now. One place couldn't figure out what was wrong with it, so I took it to the Acura dealer. It's the torque converter and the mechanic who rode with me told me to drive 28 mph because that's about 1,500 rpms and sure enough the sound happened over and ... Read More

If they don't pay for 90% or better for the transmission, then look for another brand of car. Acura wnats $4,500 list price for a new trans. Independant shops charge $2,500. Despite what Toyota is going through, I bet you can get some great deals from them.

$3000-$4000 is what I had been quoted for transmission replacement with a rebuilt tranny. The TL and the MDX used the same transmission technology. Why in God's name would you ever want to get another Acura? The TL automatics were horrible. I have had many vehicles over the past 20 years, some with over 200,000 miles. This includes Jeeps, Caravans and GMCs. The only problem vehicle ever was this Acura MDX ... Read More

Interesting comments about automatic transmissions in general and MDX in particular. I have a 2005 MDX with 104K miles. No repairs other than brakes. There are no indications of any issues. For what it is worth, I have been buying new cars since 1968, all with automatic transmissions, kept ALL for over 100K miles (many, closer to 150K). I have NEVER had a problem with an automatic transmission. I follow the ... Read More

I filed a complaint to the NTHSA (Fed group)
Written by: madmommy3 on Feb 4, 2010 2:29:08 PM
There were 136 complaints on Acura MDX 2001 so far (on the government website). Maybe we if all file a complaint. to the poster above, true, laywers will win, we get nothing except a bad taste in our mouth. At least it is documented and at least there are 136 fewer people to buy an Acura now (or more). This will be my last Honda Oddessey as well. I am moving ... Read More

We have a 2001 Acura MDX that we purchased new in Oct 01. The vehicle has 144000 miles and has been the best vehicle we have ever had. Thanksgiving weekend we drove it 250 miles one way to visit family. It started "missing" or slipping" on the way there. Just seemed like the car couldn't find the gear. Only did it 4-5 times over the course of 4 hours. On the ... Read More

Nissan at least steps up to the plate
Written by: letdownbymdx on Dec 11, 2009 6:42:58 PM
So I sold my Acura MDX (05) with 49,000 miles on it after the torque convertor went bad and was told I needed a new transmission. Bought a new Nissan Murano. Acura needs to take a lesson from Nissan. Apparently back in 2001 when Nissan first came out with its CVT transmission, there were problems with that year model through the 2004 models where transmissions were needing replaced at 50,000+ miles. ... 2001 MDX Transmission failure
Written by: mdxownertx on Dec 11, 2009 6:33:25 PM
Sudden total transmission failure after having only Acura dealership totally service this car all the time! Replacement cost of is outrageous $5500, only $4400 if one part is not replaced. Will be trying to get them to pay at least half after reading posts. There are way too many failures for the MDX. Apparently they don't value customer loyalty which makes me not want to give them or Honda any future ... Read More

Well I just got home from the dealer after picking up my Acura. I got it right off the train with 3 miles on it from the salesman going to fill it up with gas. I ordered the roof racks and had to drive about 50 miles home from Colorado Springs where I bought it and notice no noise differential. Living in Denver, I felt it was worth it though because ... From what I understand, the whole cash for clunkers program and all the incentives to boost auto sales the past month has left most dealers with little inventory. This may have something to do with your inability to get a better price. When you speak to the dealer, you should really expect to buy at approximately $500 below invoice right now. If you got tech/sport/ent then maybe $1000 below, but ideally ... Read More

I personally would be very cautious of 2010 models... Honda is not very good when it comes to introducing new transmission In 2010 Honda is moving from 5 speed to six speed... now go and do search for 2000 or 2001 Honda/Acura models you will see that lot of people were/are having transmission problems...Honda extended the trans warrenty for Acura owners...but honda owners were left holding the bag...There was a trans ... MDX Buying Advice

I currently have a deal in place for a 2009 Bali Blue Base Model MDX. The purchase will happen in the state of Colorado and the deal is: Trade in 2001 Acura TL 60k miles with two front bumper cracks, minor paint wear on the bottom trim of the car, minor hail damage, and minor tear in passenger seat leather. Other than that the car is in pretty good condition and ... Read More

How did you present your case to Acura to have them pay for transmission replacement? I have the same problem on my 2001 MDX at 108K mile. I like to have Acura to pay for the replacement as well. thanks.

Mysterious Jerking
Written by: tpulak on Dec 3, 2008 5:46:40 PM
Just a few days ago, I had that same "jerking sensation" that many Acura MDX owners were reporting relating to the transmission problem. I was at 20mph, and accelerating, when a sudden jerking came. It went on jerking for about 10 seconds, then it went back to normal. I wasn't able to duplicate this problem.. I am hoping this doesn't have to do anything with the torque converter, or transmission. I ... Read More

I don't have a rumble strip noise, but I have a rough downshift at about 30mph. I have less than 50k on my 2005 MDX. It has been to Acura 4 times and the problem still persists. I don't know if Acura can do anything for you as far as cost since you are out of your warranty period. Did Acura check for software updates?

2001 MDX Transmission problems
Written by: erwinmdx on Dec 1, 2008 11:24:23 AM
I am having the same problems I have been reading about in these forums with my transmissions--the 'rumble strip noise', the torque converter, bad shifting-- I have 136k miles, local dealer says trans needs to be replaced, and Acura is telling me they can't help because of the mileage. What is my best course of action? Please help, I need links, history of trouble with 2001's, any experiences you may have ... Read More
