Having looked at Yukon and Expedition options...very nice vehicles, when it came to a decision, I opted for tried and true. There's a peace-of-mind that accompanies the 2019 Sequoia Platinum precisely because it's old-school rock-solid dependable, has a smooth and powerful V-8, owns time-tested engineering in important places (a simple transmission and low axle ratio). Though it doesnt have advanced much of anything like cylinder deactivation, turbos or a variable transmission, what it does have just works. 150-200k miles plus is the norm not an exception. The safety updates, functional cargo space and overall comfort just work. It's simple, not flashy or particularly attractive and doest stand out in a crowd. But years and miles from now, i'm guessing it will still be doing what it does without much complaint. That said, it would be nice to get 4-5 mpg better fuel economy, another 1000lbs of towing capacity, less sensitive steering and a larger info screen.
Outdated?
I have read several reviews from automotive journalists as well as customer reviews calling Tundras and Sequoias outdated. That is exactly what makes them so spectacular (Toyota could definitely update the electronics and minor interior improvements) Toyota has made subtle improvements and changes to these models almost every year. Toyota does reverse engineering which means they are trying to perfect what is already there. Sequoias and Tundras are the undisputed champions when it comes to durability, longevity and overall toughness. Update: Sequoia is not invincible after all, we had to replace the belt tensioner at 181,000 miles at a cost of $209.00 with labor. Disappointing but not bad compared to my last 5 fords which ALL needed transmissions under 140k

Very Impressive
I totally disagree with the previous review. I love my Sequoia. We test drove almost every SUV on the market before deciding to purchase ours and we haven’t had the slightest bit of buyers remorse. The resale value is incredible. The interior is very comfortable. I highly recommend!

Built to last, over built and bullet proof
My first experience with the Sequoia was a used 2005 with 40,000 miles. Since it was assigned to me while I owned a 2004 Tundra purchased new, I whipped it like a government mule to see what it would take to break. 65000 miles later, a set of tires and some oil changes we auctioned it for $6500 while missing the back two rows of seats. My new 2019 Limited is an unbelievable value. The look is solid while the ride is luxurious. Six speeds and they all work. Small screen? I have a large screen at home. So far I am averaging 16.7 mpg with the powerful V-8. This is a Land Cruiser solid as a Stryker and both the Land Cruiser and the Sequoia own the 300,000 plus mile club. Not by chance either. Crawl underneath this 6000 pound tough guy and observe the over built frame, suspension, drive train and ten inch clearance and you realize the competition is not even close. A gorgeous interior with all the latest and the minimum of things that don't and won't stand the test of time. I am most impressed with the quiet, comfortable ride sitting above it all while seeing everything on all four corners. My wife has never been happier. She stated a recent three hour drive went by without once shifting around the spacious captains chair to get comfortable.

New Sequoia owner--LOVE it!!!
This SUV is a dream to drive and has tons of storage space. I actually shopped around before I bought the Sequoia. I tested the Ford Expedition and was thoroughly unimpressed by the cheaply made interior. I strongly considered a Tahoe, but a Toyota will last forever. I previously owned a 4Runner and am a big fan of Toyota reliability. Also, it has the roll down back window which is one feature I hope Toyota NEVER discontinues

Why change a good thing?
Almost all the negative reviews out there focus on outdated tech, outdated styling and less amenities. This is the exact reason I bought a Sequoia over a Suburban/Expedition. Toyota has spent 13 years mechanically perfecting this SUV. I like my vehicles to last a LONG time with as minimal repairs as possible. Sequoias have proven that it has an invincible drivetrain that will go 250k+ without bating an eye. In my opinion more tech typically equals more repairs down the road, repairs well beyond a backyard mechanics means. Did I mention I like to fix as much on my own vehicles as possible? That said the Sequoia also has the same drivetrain and 4x4 as a Landcruiser. Perhaps the greatest suv built worldwide and the Sequoia is 2/3 the price. Living in rural Montana we needed a capable suv off-road, that could haul a trailer, super reliable and fits all of our friends/family when they visit. Our certified 2019 Sequoia checked all the boxes. Gas mileage stinks... so be it, this motor will still be purring along when the mechanical systems in other suvs with turbos, cylinders that turn off and on, etc are needing major repairs. If you’re looking for a truly capable, reliable and utilitarian family suv with some comfort features this is it.

Nicely updated!
Update 6/1/2023...4 years of ownership and over 50,000 miles put on the Sequoia. Nothing to report other than normal maintenance (fluid/filter changes as recommended in service manual and new tires). We have taken this rig on several long road trips and it has proven to be a great vehicle for doing so, even when fully loaded. The reduction in cargo capacity and 3rd row usability make the new 2023 Sequoia a tough sell for me to consider. I plan to keep this vehicle a while longer. Fuel mileage would be the only complaint, but I knew that prior to purchasing. Update 6/1/2021...2 years and 30,000 miles on the Sequoia and no issues experienced other than the wind noise, which was fixed under warranty. Took it on a 2,500 mile road trip through the Rocky Mountains last fall, including some off road trails, and it was awesome. If you are looking for a reliable, spacious, body on frame SUV with a usable third row, not sure there is a better option available. It will be interesting to see what they do with the next generation expected in 2022. Update 5/25/2020...Only issue experienced after 1-year was wind noise on driver's side door. Dealer adjusted the door seal under warranty and have had to other issues. Really enjoy this rig and plan to keep it a while. Original review...I just traded in a 2012 Sequoia (156,000 miles) for a 2018 Sequoia and am pleasantly surprised by the updates. LED headlights are wonderful. Toyota Safety Sense (adaptive cruise, lane departure, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring) are a great addition, especially due to the size of the rig. Ride is smooth and handling acceptable. Powertrain has proven reliable. The competition is utilizing cylinder deactivation and turbos to boost fuel mileage, but at what cost to maintenance & reliability? Dashboard and technology update is a significant improvement. The slight styling change to the grill looks great. I'm very happy they didn't change the interior like the Tundra as it is less functional and you lose the second glove box. Overall, this is a great vehicle and still outshines most of the competition despite not having a significant redesign since 2008. The only thing that I wish it had is the 8 speed transmission that they are putting in the Land Cruiser.

LOVE IT!
People say that its outdated, but if you don't care about the technology its amazing! This engine has so much power once you get up to speed and it is really grippy even in 2wd mode. The seats could be more comfy but they're good enough. And for someone who came from a 2005 highlander, I was really happy about the "outdated" tech features. and this car even has a little party piece becuase you can roll down the rear window(not too useful but I like it).

A full sized 4Runner
It’s not a Landcruiser, but it does a fine job in light to medium off-road, much better than its competitors (Expedition, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban). It has the same 4wd and center locking diff that my 04 4Runner had, also has 10” of ground clearance....

This TRD Pro is the Business
Disclaimer, I just got out of a 2013 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon. It was loaded with all the options for the model at the time. But why get rid of it you ask? Family is expanding is my answer and the Sequoia delivers! My Jeep was heavily modified, so the gas was surprisingly better in the Sequoia ... Winning!!! More room with both reclining Captain’s Chairs and third row seats ... also winning. Toyota’s legendary reliability (over Jeep’s, but my Rubicon rocked!) and the 5.7 .... Mic Drop! The ride is fantastic and this has all the bells, whistles, and technology I need or can shake a stick at. IMHO, makes Edmund’s ratings and commentary seem ... welp, snobbish? This is may not be for everyone ... but it’s a fine vehicle indeed. Nice Job Toyota!

Okay it is an excellent car to go offroad with unlike the 2020 nissan armamda. It has better cargo space and for a vehicle this big it is quite smooth

Capable and comfortable - hilariously bad mileage
I’ve had my 2018 SR5 for a year now. Absolutely flawless reliability. Tows a 7,000 lb trailer like a dream. Surprisingly capable off-road. I’ve driven through several creeks and done some super thick muddy roads and fields while out hunting. It’s planted and confidence inspiring on icy mountain roads. Incredible for long road trips loaded up with the family, pup, and camping gear. Big enough to sleep in comfortably with the middle seat folded down and a piece of plywood to bridge the gap between the second and third row of seats. It’s shockingly fast for an SUV this big. The engine and transmission combo really work well. The adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitors, and corner sonar indicators make it really comfortable to drive for such a big vehicle. The turn radius is really shockingly tight. The gas mileage is just terrible. Really comically bad. I usually don’t even get to 15 mpg on a tank. Usually 14mpg combined. Maybe 17 mpg on a road trip with all highway use. Update: I’ve now owned the Sequoia for 2 years and have put 50,000 miles on it, bringing it to 70,000 miles total. I love my Sequoia! No maintenance problems, it’s the road tripping king! With a roof cargo rack and trailer hitch carrier, I got 6 people, a 50lb dog, and gear for a week packed into it. We dropped off our luggage and headed up the mountains far past a “turn around you’ll get stuck” sign. Edit: 2023 - still loving it.

LAME
Toyota hog ties you from modifying the engine for any kind of performance upgrades. They also withhold critical computer information. They just don't want you to change the perf. of the motor. I am surprised there is no altimeter warning that shuts the motor down if you raise the suspension, changing the CG. Maybe that will be on next years model.

Greatest Truck I ever owned 2018 Sequoia Limited
This is my second one and love it. Almost 5,000 miles and trouble free. Milage to be expected 16 average Suburban driving and 18 average on highway. I did get 20 + MPG on one tank couldn't believe it. My last one was a 2013 same model and only one problem in 80,000 miles door hinge got broken with a real strong wind. I recommend this truck very strongly and will buy another in 80,000 miles. I have nothing negative to say about this vehicle.

300 Miles and the vehicle is in the shop already
I have leased the vehicle not too long ago. A week later I had to drive it to the shop due to multiple safety sensors repeated failures. Rear cross traffic, Blind spot, active cruise control, front collision radar, etc. At the moment dealer had to contact Toyota to figure out what is going on. I wish I could return it at this point in time...Toyota reliability is gone. First one, and definitely the last Toyota I will ever lease / own.

I bought my 2008 used about two years ago and I have no regrets. The SR5 model with leather, sunroof and other trims, it looks better than a base model. The ride is comfortable and it is our family and friend's favorite hauler.

Love this generation Sequoia
I've had quite a few cars in my 45 years and tend to trade them out pretty often. In the last few years, I've had a Raptor, 2 TRX's, Rebel, Lexus LX, LC, ES. I'm not easily satisfied when it comes to vehicles but I've had 4 Sequoias and have liked all 4 of them. I currently own 2, a 2014 and 2021. The 2014 has 107k and runs just as well as the 2021. The engine is butter smooth. The interior is spacious. The ride is very comfortable. If you like to "feel the road" you won't like it. If you like the bumps smoothed out like I do, it's great. The turn radius is great...it drives smaller than it actually is, if that makes sense. The gas mileage isn't great but it takes regular unleaded and gets about 17 on the highway. It has plenty of power for passing/towing. I really like the cruise control as it's big and easy to find and adjust without looking at it. From what I've read, it seems to be one of the safest vehicles on the road with one of the lowest fatality rates. The V-8 engine is proven for longevity and reliability. Suffice it to say, I really like this generation Sequoia.

Love my Sequoia! 5.7 liter has the power to tow whatever need to tow. Tons of inside cargo space especially if you lower the rear seats. Wish it had better gas mileage but you don't buy a 5.7 liter engine for gas mileage. Lol.

Meh. An average vehicle at best...
Rented a Sequoia for a week and found it to be an average vehicle with average quality, power, handling and overall quality. The interior was what you could find in any entry level sport utility along with the overall build quality. What really turned me off about this vehicle was the ride. It wasn’t as nearly balanced and compliant as a comparable Tahoe, Denali, Explorer, expedition, etc. It was like driving around in a 3/4 ton pickup at best. Certainly not a vehicle I’d consider for purchase.

Best Truck Ever 2018 Sequioa Limited
Almost 5,000 miles not one problem. Gas is a little better than my 2013 Sequioa. Only one problem with my 2013 and 80,000 miles the door hinge got broken when a Hugh gust of wind hit the door. Toyota should make a heavy duty hinge. Back to the 2018 I like the design and the handling, preformance and quality. I had 6 Chevy Suburbans that fell apart after 50,000 miles. I get 17 MPG Suburban driving and approx 18 MPG HWY. I did get 20+ on one tank HWY driving must have been the wind pushing me. All in All love my truck.

Not happy!!
I have a 2019 TRD . I love the body style but for all the money I’m paying for this I wish it had a better stereo screen and system. It really sucks. My Highlander had a way better system . Toyota is way behind on their technology on the Sequoia. My husband has a way better system in his 2017 Ram!! I swear by Toyota but this might have it!

Loooong overdue for an update.
When this version of the Sequoia was released, George W. Bush was President (2007). It's as if Toyota wants the Sequoia to go away. I loved my 2006 Sequoia and think this never-ending generation is ugly. The dashboard is outdated. Tech is outdated. Plastic interior. Come on Toyota, you can do better!!

You better save your money for gas!!!!!
I knew this car would get bad gas mileage but I didn't expect it to be horrible. I drive normal around town, even make a concerted effort to not jump on the gas, maintain 75 on the highway, and I am averaging 11 MPG's. I have had trucks before, SUV's, and have never experienced this. 3800 miles, owned the car new since Sept 2018. If fueling up a concern for you, do not buy this car.

Cheaply made
I bought 2019 Sequiua limited. Leather seat feels like made of hardwood. Very uncomfortable! No gas cap lever next to driver seat? This is an old technology. Why we have to open the gas cap outside manually? No lever by the driver seat? Anyone can open the gas cap now! Still can’t figure out how to sync my mobile phone with Entune! Not too smooth integration. No arm rest by the front seats? Toyota has cut corner to save money to make this SUV! Not too pleased!

Sloppy when turning. With a fix.
After buying my Sequoia. I had to drive about a hundred miles. The first things I noticed when leaving my neighborhood. The swaying of the vehicle going side to side when making a turn with a drainage ditch. I have two turns that this effect happens on. The front ends dives left or right pretty deep on any turn, but more so with drainage ditches. I also noticed how the crosswinds gusts push on either side of the Sequoia. And this also cause a swaying effect. So you probably figured it out by now. I replaced the weak original swaybars, to the Toyota TRD swaybars (front and back). I am very happy with the results. Less sway, and I'm able to make turns faster. I also noticed the passenger sun visor drooping. Yes, I am very happy with my Sequoia now that I upgraded the swaybars. The 8 month update: My wife is the main driver, and she says- "we are never going to get rid of this car" (SUV). She feels safe. The turning ratius on this Sequoia is surprisingly small. The engine power is quick. Road noise in the most is part quiet. You can't hide the imperfection of the road. So, as I write this. I am also in agreement with my wife. We like this monster. The one thing, I want to change is the height. The Sequoia appears to be to low.
