After looking at the new Ranger, the Colorado, and a few different Tacoma’s, the Frontier won me over. I’ve read a lot of the negative comments from the “expert” reviews, but the simplicity of my truck is what ultimately sold me. It took the salesman at the Ford dealership 15 minutes just to explain the infotainment system in the Ranger. This truck is great; it handles well, has plenty of power, and is surprisingly comfortable. For the price, it can’t be beat. I haven’t had the chance to go off road or tow yet, but I have no doubts. The technology is simple and straightforward to set up, and as a bonus the sound system is outstanding. I don’t have many negatives. I’ve averaged around 17 mpg around town, which could be better. But honestly I’m happy as is. It's very satisfying during my daily commute, and as I’ve mentioned, I love the simplicity. I have no issues with the “dated” feel that’s prevalent in a lot of reviews. ** UPDATE 2023 ** Still going strong, zero issues. I've been on some tough trails, I've towed around 6,000lbs up the coast, and it's been my daily driver. So far only standard maintenance. The fuel economy isn't great (around 17 combined), probably the only negative.

Does exactly what I bought it to do

I bought a 2019 Midnight Edition Frontier, in gunmetal with "steel" interior . It is fitted with 18" black wheels, black out trim and a really useful package of options, including tow package. The second weekend I had it, I drove it a considerable distance to spend the weekend with friends at their beach house. The bed extender came in handy with two kayaks and two mountain bikes strapped into the bed. Nissan's Utili-track system is outstanding for this purpose. This truck is very comfortable to drive, both short and long distances. I found the steering ratio to be slower than I prefer. It took some getting used to. Brake force distribution and ABS prevent rear wheel lock-up, but add to the stopping distance at highway speeds. Around town, brakes are excellent. While the Frontier interior is minimalist, with hard plastics (except on the door arm rests), it has a simple elegance all its own. It is a pickup truck, and simplicity isn't a sin. I don't expect to take it off road very often, I have a Wrangler Rubicon for that. Yet, after airing down the tires to 18 psi, I drove the Frontier on the beach with ease. I bought the Frontier because I needed a vehicle with greater utility than my Wrangler or my 2016 1/2 Mazda CX-5 Touring. After shopping midsize pickups, and seeing ridiculous MSRPs (a Ranger Lariat at $45,655, a Colorado at $42,280 and a Tacoma at $44,148), the $34,030 sticker on the Frontier Midnight Edition was surprising. After rebates, discounts and negotiation, the bottom line price was $29,030. None of the other midsize trucks can come anywhere near that price with similar options and equipment. Therein is why I bought the Frontier. Superior reliability, and the best value for the money. By far. Update: As of seven months of use, my Frontier has been driven from Long Island to the Space Coast of Florida and back. It carried over 1,000 lb each way. Despite the load, fuel mileage averaged 20.7 mpg. The ride was comfortable and quiet. The responsive V6 gets the truck up to highway speed effortlessly. Nissan's excellent entertainment system was flawless, streaming music and audio books. I have zero complaints to date. Update: As of 12/28/2020, I have 17,300 miles on my Frontier. It has required nothing more than routine maintenance. No issues whatsoever. Both tires and brake pads show only about 20% wear. We have used it for towing a camping trailer. Several trips to the Carolinas and Tennessee. It's quiet and comfortable on the highways. Thus far, it had proven capable and utterly reliable.

Great for the price!

Does it have all the fancy new technology? No. But if you don’t need all of that, or if you’re worried that all of that stuff is likely to be expensive if it fails, this is a great option! The new 3.8 liter V6 has plenty of power and the 9-speed automatic is buttery smooth. I disagree with the Edmunds review, I think it’s very easy to drive on pavement. Of course it doesn’t have a small turning radius, but I live in the Atlanta area, and I don’t have issues driving this little truck in a big city. The interior is surprisingly quiet and comfortable. Through all of the years of this interior, I think they’ve perfected the design. There are no creaks, rattles, or poor fit. The materials on the dash are hard plastic, but the PRO-4X has plenty of leather that is soft on the seats and door panels. And as far as technology goes, it’s like the old Xterra saying “everything you need, nothing you don’t”. You’ll have one USB port, an aux jack, navigation system (PRO-4X trims), a great Rockford Fosgate sound system (PRO-4X only again), power seats, heated seats, dual zone automatic climate control, and a sunroof (PRO-4X only again). I would’ve loved it if it had adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, lane keep assist, and other modern driving aids, but I’m assuming I would be paying a lot more too! I don’t think any of the features this truck has are likely to break. My gas mileage hasn’t been great, I’ve been averaging 17mpg in mixed driving. I’m still breaking the truck in, so I am anticipating that to change. But the best part of this truck is the price. The MSRP for my fully loaded PRO-4X trim is over $39k, but I got mine at a tick over $34k. Dealers are discounting these because a redesign is on its way, and they know it doesn’t compete well with other trucks in the segment when it comes to features. But if you’re like me and you’re happy with the options this does have, you can get this at a bargain. Plus, at the time I bought it, this was the only mid-size truck being sold with 0% interest financing. I think it’s worth a test-drive for buyers of mid-size trucks. I’m very happy with my Arctic Blue PRO-4X so far!

Update 7/27/2020. It’s been 13 months with the Nissan Frontier and I still like the truck a lot. I have done a few hundred miles of towing a 3500# camper and the V6 handled it quite well. Mostly I have used it for Highway driving. It handles well and has quite a bit of torque. Avg MPG overall has been 17.8 and that includes the times I was getting 10-12 while towing. My last truck purchase was a 2003 Ford F-150 Supercrew. After 16+ years and 140,000 miles it was time for something new. But, something weird happened to full size trucks since 2003! They all seem gi-normuos. So, I started looking at midsize. Since the new Ranger was just coming to market, I was reluctant to give it a try - and it’s only available in 4cyl. The GM trucks just don’t appeal to me. I tried to like the Tacoma, but the price and “go cart” seating position next to the floor were deal killers. Yes, the Frontier is an old design, but I genuinely like the look of the truck - always have. A lack of safety nanny electronics was more of a plus for me. I simply wanted a modestly sized four door truck with four wheel drive that I could afford to buy brand new. The other benefit, was that the dealership was willing to deal on price. I’m very happy with my new truck purchase. If you are not overly concerned about what other people think about the vehicle you buy, I’d recommend the Nissan Frontier. Some people will criticize your decision, but it’s not their money being spent. I think dollar for dollar it’s one of the best kept secret in the pickup truck market today.

My Heavy Duty Car

This truck does not have all of the bells and whistles of most trucks but it is rugged, capable, and the perfect size and height for my needs. The 4 wheel drive is solid and has got me through some pretty slick conditions with no problem. I purchased this truck new from the dealer to replace my aging full size passenger car I used for making sales calls and servicing customers. So I see this truck not as a light duty truck but my heavy duty car. I love the back fold down seats. There are a few bells and whistles I wish my truck had such as rear window defoging and auto headlights but the rugged little truck makes up for the lost amenities. The suspension and frame and trailer hitch has held up fine to any job I have put it to. At the end of the day I am glad I took on this new mid size truck friend I expect we will go though a fair amount of life together.

New 2019 Frontier SV 4x4 auto Midnight Edition, under 2000 miles. My truck has excellent steering, a speed sensitive power type with no sloppiness what so ever. I like the feel of it, not overly sensitive. Has been very good on handing from slow speeds to freeways. Trip this week via freeway at 70-75 with gusty crosswinds gave a stable ride while seeing other vehicles being moved around. Maybe the 18" wheel/tire combination just works better. Ride is very good IMHO, better than our new RAV4. It also seems quieter. Can't say why Edmunds similar test truck had issues. Yes it may have a "dated" interior but it works and will age better under hard use. As a driver for 49 years I have figured things out and don't need lane assist, blind spot monitoring, etc. The backup camera is great giving you a slight wide angle view and is very bright. At night its way better than turning your head and looking! The sonar works flawlessly. On this still new engine I'm getting 19.5 mpg in suburban driving while running the ac full blast. I may see some improvement after the engine is "broke in". The backseat is not overly comfortable but it will seldom be used for riding so thats a non-issue for me, while the foldability is important. This truck fits my needs and wants. Other brands? Chevy seemed to feel less refined while driving and cost $4000 more. Add in how fast they rust out here and the choice was easy. Tacoma was even more expensive with a higher driver entry height. Prices on new Ranger and Gladiators were crazy high also. My truck was just under $30K. Best value overall, which made my choice simple. Loving it so far and Frontier dependability is nice to have around me.

I rented a 2018 pro4x and took it off roading in Anza-Borrego state park in southern California. It shined and I was thoughly impressed. I wanted a wrangler, or zr2. But there prices are just not justifiable for 90% of the market. My uncle owned a 1990 nissan hardbody v6 with the mickey thomson off-road package. He took that little truck everywhere. It was at 405,000 miles when it was totalled on a freeway 5 car pile up. Nissan builds reliable trucks at a affordable price. Thats something jeep and GM can't do anymore. That's why I grabbed a pro4x with the luxury package the second it went on sale. If you need all the latest and greatest electronics, then you probably don't need a off-roader.

If you are in need of the latest bells and whistles and tech, do not buy this truck. The cabin instrumentation is very basic re: no gps, no satellite radio. Heck, it even has a radio antenna. However, this is a comfortable and rugged vehicle and a whole lot cheaper than its prettier competitors.

I have been a fan of the Nissan Frontier for more than a decade. I have been driving one for more than 5 years. The vehicle handles great. Better than most trucks in fact. My daughters (6'-0" & 6'-1") have enough leg room in the back seat. The gas mileage is not "lagging far behind" it's competition. It fact it is about the same. Very few trucks get 16/22 mpg. The interior does not look or feel cheap. This is a top notch quality truck and a great value.

I've only had mine for a few days, but if you bargain you can get one for much less than a Ranger, Colorado or Tacoma and, at the end of the day, it does what a truck is supposed to do; haul stuff around that won't fit inside a cabin. The motor has as much power as you will find in this segment, it drives and rides fine, you just don't get much in the way of advanced electronics or creature comforts. It's not in the drop downs, but I have the S Crew Cab with a 6 ft bed.

Because I wanted a pick up, I just traded in my nice 2013 Nissan Xterra Pro4X for a used 2019 Frontier SV 4WD with 14,000 miles. Mine has factory floor carpets, tow package and bed liner. I added a bed tonneau cover. Unlike my old Xterra there are no fog or off road lights, no navigation system and no locking rear differential. After having these things for the last 6 years I looked for a pickup without them. Why: -- Car navigation systems are expensive to keep up to date. Updating the maps each year costs more than buying a new auto GPS and the GPS comes with free map updates. Plus, if you only drive where you can get cell data just use Google maps. -- Nissan's foglights only work when you turn on the regular beams, so they don't help much when driving in fog or snow. True foglights can work alone. -- As for the off-road lights: the factory kit from Nissan is only two lights; they are not very bright and can only be turned on when the high beams were on. -- I did not want the locking differential. The one on the Pro4X Nissans is known to be problematic. Mine would periodically light a warning light on the dashboard because water would get in the sensor in the rear differential. In fact this was the only problem I had with the Xterra in 110,000 miles. What I like about the Frontier is the old school combination of price, ride, power, comfort and features. Electric locks and windows, cruise control, steering wheel audio controls, 4WD, basic blue tooth for audio and phone, a USB input for storing additional audio files. A nice large rear view camera integrated into the radio. No expensive unnecessary technology and gadgets. You won't need to pull out the owner's manual to work the radio. It won't keep you from crashing into the car in front of you if you don't pay attention. It's a comfortable ride that is powerful enough to tow over 6000 lbs and pass slow traffic while doing it. What I don't like about the Frontier just relate to the audio. Apparently the radio won't recognize more than a few thousand songs on a USB drive and there is a little rattle in the front right door speaker. Finally, In some cars the rear view camera does not go on when the truck is put in reverse. Mine works, but a software refresh is needed to prevent the condition. My truck is still under the bumper to bumper factory warranty. We will see what the dealer does with these issues next week. If they can't fix it, I'll put in a updated new audio head unit and speakers.

Only knocks I could find in reviews of this vehicle when purchased was lack of techy stuff and gas mileage not so good. Here is a more accurate review. Gas mileage is much better than anything I have ever owned (Chevy, Ford, Dodge) at 23 average . I am extremely pleased with the performance for a 4 banger. Plenty of get up and plenty of power for what I needed. This is a tow vehicle for our motorhome and seems to be exactly what we needed. The comfort while driving is great with plenty of room for a guy over 6 foot. Really easy to access everything within the cab and Body lines are fantastic! Our dealership was AWESOME!! BZ out to Benton Nissan of Bessemer!

Love my new Frontier, comfortable, fun to drive, and my wife loves it because being a four wheel drive she can get in and out without any problems😊 The climate control for heating and air is mainly not good. In cooler weather it is hard or near impossible to get heat without going up to temperature control dial near max. to get heat.

What do you want - a vehicle or entertainment?

I want a vehicle that works, that is reliable, that gets me there when I really need to. That's the Nissan Frontier. My last one (2012) was on 160,000 miles with no major problems - more than I can say for any other vehicle I have owned in my many years of car buying. If tech is o important, I will ask if you are paying sufficient attention to the road as you drive. And I personally don't WANT this I-automatically-stop-for-every-stray-cat garbage that is being forced on drivers more and more, because I think it causes as many problems as it solves. If the worst you can say about the Frontier is the lack of tech, then it deserves 10 stars and I hope I can buy a similar one forever.

Nine months of ownership and I could not be happier. It is simple and tough with enough comfort and convenience for a near perfect package. I find the seats to be comfortable for my 6' 220 lb frame. It has great power from the 3.8 ltr V6 and smooth 9 speed transmission. It does everything well that a truck should do at a fair price. The value truck package bundled everything I would have added for towing and appearance. In all, my favorite truck of the seven I've owned.

I have driven many vehicles in my past which includes a Dodge Ram 1500 when they first came out I'd switch over to a smaller vehicle because of commuting & because of gas prices. I totaled my Honda CRV and I wanted to feel a heavy truck that made contact with the road from my steering wheel after this terrible ordeal it does what it says it'll do so if you're looking for something that's not fancy and it's really a good old pickup truck at a reasonable price this is your truck ...my dogs love it and I have 5.

Shopped around for about 3 months before deciding on the Frontier due to reliability and price. Bought the SV Midnight Edition in the Magnetic Black Pearl. This vehicle in the black on black with the 18 inch wheels is smokin' hot to look at. I've had many compliments on it. The vehicle platform may be a bit dated compared to some other mid sized sport trucks, but it is a proven platform with probably the best 4.0 litre 6 cylinder engine on the market. With 261 hp and 281 lbs. of torque, it will move pretty good. Interior is good and very functional. I'm not one of those people that need a whole bunch of gadgets and electronic inside. I drove it off the lot with 8 miles on the odometer, and the only issue I have is that I do wish it got a bit better gas mileage. My last vehicle was a compact 4 cylinder, so I guess I got spoiled on 35-38 mpg. Overall, a reliable proven platform that performs and is great for my needs. $29,000 for a top model special edition truck that compares favorably to other brand trucks that start at $30,000+!

I purchased a 2019 sc midnight edition with the double cab 4x4. When I bought it it had 29 miles. After 1 week of ownership I enjoy the beauty of simplicity in this truck. The interior is very dated but it also appears like it will hold up for a long time. The stereo has good sound for a base stereo. The exterior looks great even after 15 years of no changes. All the reviews I have found have seemed to be positive in regards to reliability. I know the old radiators has a transmission/ coolant mix problem, but everything I found seems like it was fixed around 2010/12. Also the issue with the timing chain guide was fixed after 2010. The truck is surprisingly roomy for how small it is. Seats are comfy and has good outward visibility all around. The midnight edition gives black 18’ wheels and blacked out badges which look incredible. They also had a promo to give the value pack for free. The steering radius is big but my old ram was worse. The main reason for buying the truck was the reliability and price. I looked for Tacoma’s and the gladiator and ranger. But the cost was way to high for a similarly equipped truck. Overall, I’m very happy with the truck it does everything I need. And I’m hopeful that the Nissan reliability will hold true for my truck as well. I will try to update the review once I have put more miles on it.

I went in for an oil change recently for my 2015 frontier SV 4x4 with Value package, 54,000 miles. Salesman came up to me and asked if they could assess the truck and see what it's worth. FWIW, the frontier is a great inexpensive truck, they wanted it on there lot. I let them do their thing while I waited. Ten minutes later he came back and asked what I might move to if this would work, after dreaming of I platinum reserve titan, I mentioned the pro-4x in cayenne red (new shade of red this year). We were out on a test drive shortly after. Needless to say, I am the proud owner of a new truck, at the same payment i was at before, with a factory warranty for the next few years, at least. Differences between my 2015 vs 2019. Interior color, went from tan to grey, looks much better/newer, just with the color change. Almost makes it seem like not such an old design, lol. Trip computer is nice, 8way adjustable seat is so much better. The navigation/Rockford system is nice to have stock. 2015 had a 10" JL Audio sub under passenger back seat with RF punch 400 amp, sound was not comparable, but stock in 2019 is acceptable enough to spend my time to install 10" JL Audio sub and amp. Truck is louder, I had installed sound dampening on the floor and doors, not sure if I will spend the +-$90 and an afternoon to do, it was nice, though. Their isn't a grab handle for the drivers side a-pillar... doesn't seem like a good use of "redesign" money to delete. Need to get a receiver hitch, I tow a small (1500lbs) pop-up 6+ times a year. Now for the comedy... My son actually likes my truck now! He was having a rough day, he was about 5, was upset at me, and told me what was wrong and added "and I don't like the color of your truck!" Lol it was white, btw. Truthfully, the first truck was great, rear sonar sensors are sensitive/finicky, but, no signs of upcoming issues, besides needing tires soon. I don't see any issue buying a frontier, except everyone will wonder why you bought a "15 year old" truck. I will let you know why I did, cost and reliability, the coolant/transmission fluid issue was fixed a while ago, like 8(?) year ago. Why all media disregards this vehicle is beyond me, how many electronics do i want to have to deal with potentially failing within 10 years. This truck isn't this way, really only have to deal with rear sonar sensors if they touch anything to agressively. I would of had to spend an extra ~$3000 to get a comparably equipped tacoma, not really interested in the rest. Maybe the Ranger, but not til next year or 2 model...

Great looking truck, rugged, and well made. Price is thousands less than the other mid size trucks. You get a solid truck with just the right equipment and technology. The cabin is quite and the front seats are comfortable. The 4.0 6 cyl and transmission run and shift smoothly with plenty of power. The midnight edition trim is what sold me on this truck and it fits in my garage. I'm happy with my 4x4.

I was looking for dependable V6, 4x4, crew cab truck for <$30k and found the Nissan Frontier. It has great power and torque. Plus, it fits in my garage because it is the shortest midsize truck on the market. The seating is way more comfortable vs Tacoma and the price was $13k cheaper. The negative is the turn radius because it is a truck and not a cross over vehicle.

No other midsize truck even comes close when you consider price. I have the Crew Cab SV 4x4 and it has exceeded every expectation I had. Very impressed with the power, ride and quality. I’m even averaging 20mpg around town, way better than the sticker and lots of reviews online report. I couldn’t be happier with this truck!

Great truck for use by anyone needing to move furniture and belongings anywhere in nation. Cab is more comfortable than the critics say, Jump seats in back of driver and passenger are perfect for children or small people, rearview camera a great plus. Inexpensive to maintain, but milage is typical of most pick-ups (approx 19.5 mpg, with 5 speed manual, city and interstate driving). The four cylinder engine is great for my use, but substantially underpowered for towing anything larger than lawn mowing equipment.

I was looking for a replacement for my 2005 Ford Sportrac. I went to all the different dealers to see the Tacoma, Colorado and Ridgeline. I liked the Ridgeline the best....but then I got sticker shock of almost $38K for what I wanted. I decided that that was way too much and dropped back to my second choice...the Frontier SV...which I purchased with all taxes and dealer junk costs for under $28K. It also included step rails on the truck. The 6cyl engine gives me plenty of power and I average 20 mpg. The controls are nice and simple which for my simple brain is just fine. The only downside to the truck is the ride tight and a bit rough. The the sound proofing could be improved. No to any squeaks. Overall, I'm very please with my simple truck.

2019 SV 4x4 value package MPG is ok 20 -21 on the highway. Turning radius is just ok. It fits in the garage easy, pulls my boat without any problems. It does great in the snow. In the last 20 years I have driven a F150, Ram 1500, Tahoe, and a Tundra. I really like the Frontier. It is just a good basic truck.

My wife and I went shopping for a new vehicle because we had sold my Mazda B-4000 pickup truck, with 195,000 milrd on iy. We went by the Nissan store, looking at some Nissan Frontier pickups.. We were impressed with the one I purchased, a Frontier (V-6). I've driven it almost 1,000 miles sine I purchased it. To date, it drives well, except some minor vibration in steering column when driving on rough roads. Also, I anticipated having a CD player in the truck. After purchasing it, I noticed that it doesn't have one and to play my CD's, I have to record them on a flash drive which fits into the flash drive player on my dash. Mileage isn't as good as my Mazda, but almost as good. No mechanical problems, except one, the seat belt bolt cover on front passenger seatbelt is broken.

My Frontier has less than 10,000 miles and the a/c does not get cold, anybody who ever owned a Nissan knows their air is freezing cold! Took the truck back to the dealer Peoria Nissan and they said it was the compressor, picked up my truck and the air was the same, Took it back to Peoria Nissan this time they said it was the a/c computer, picked up my truck again and the air was still the same. Called Nissan corporate and filed a complaint only to have Nissan claim it was normal for the new auto a/c to run like that... BS this a/c is not working properly and if anyone knows a lawyer we can contact please let us know, Thanks!!

I have had the truck seven months now and is used primarily as my daily driver. I have a little over 2,000 miles on it and it is getting pretty steady 18 mpg so far. Handles ok around town, and pretty well on the highway, but you have to pay attention to it as it likes to drift, Steering and turning the Frontier is a bit of a job, installed a spinner ball steering assist on the steering wheel and seems to help. Like the 4.0L V6 power, disappointed that it didn't have a cd player or xm satellite in it, but neither one is a big must have, as I use a usb drive with a lot of down loaded music on it. Ride is ok, but the drivers seat is a bit uncomfortable and the lack of a right side arm rest for the driver is a extremely poor design feature by Nissan. I like Nissan's reputation and dependability. Didn't need a full size truck with a big bed, this frontier fits my needs just fine. Don't think I'd buy another Frontier unless they make some much long over due changes and improvements to this vehicle.

I have a 2020 Frontier Pro 4X. I reviewed and test drove every mid sized 4X4 truck on the market, and settled on this one. It is a capable truck, reliable and has a history of reliability that is impressive. The truck is comfortable, I don't seem to have the same issue with noise that drive reports have, maybe they should close the roof. It does lack many of the available driver aides, but if you are an attentive driver, you really don't need these. Overall, I have been impressed by the Frontier, and the Pro 4X is very competent off road.

I bought a 2019 Nissan frontier SV 4X4 for a work truck. This truck has become a major part of our life.We bought a travel trailer to move to another state 1500 milles away. This truck with a few hitch modifications which were needed to hook up to the trailer. We loaded the trailer with all of the things needed to survive.I pulled a 4000 pound trailer the whole distance without even a slight struggle this truck is oh so well worth the price I paid and is highly recommended. Thank you NISSAN You've truely earned this review

2020 Nissan Frontier SV Great Truck-Engine Fails

I purchased a certified pre-owned 2020 Nissan Frontier SV Truck with less than 3,500 miles in May 2021 and in January 2022 at 18,500 miles it started making a huge noise in engine area and stalled in road out of state. I called my dealership I purchased truck from 20 times and they finally answered & gave me NISSAN warranty service phone number to call for assistance. I was stranded for 4 hrs until could get to different dealership that did NOT have a replacement vehicle for me or have a standard rate contract with a rental car company so I had to stay overnight in shady hotel until morning to get Enterprise Rental Car to get me and rent vehicle (at my cost) to return home. I had to pay for rental cars for over 4 weeks at cost of $1,265 to my credit card until I can turn in all receipts to Nissan and hopefully get reimbursed ASAP since my vehicle is under original warranty and it is the ENGINE that needs replaced in truck. Very strange that the vehicle was inspected for CPO Warranty yet the ENGINE failed. So, reliability of 2020 Frontier for me is NOT good when it breaks down after 8 months and Corporations as big as NISSAN cannot help customers out by having corporate sponsorships with rental car companies (like insurance companies do) to pay warranty claims so customer has NO out of pocket expense and always has a vehicle to get home when their vehicles fail us. After 4 weeks I received a call from Dealership that my Engine parts are on backorder yet they finally had a rental car for me to pick up out of state at their dealership at no cost....YEH! I did ask dealership how much for trade in of my vehicle to new one and they wanted to give me $4,500 less than I owe; even when my truck is worth more than I owe because of shortage of used trucks. So, I wait! UPDATE: My Nissan Frontier SV Truck has now been in shop 75 days with engine parts on backorder and NISSAN CORP says they will NOT give me good trade in value for my vehicle to upgrade to new one AND will NOT reimburse me $1,265 in rental car fees for month I am owed until my vehicle is fixed and case is closed. I looked up TN LEMON LAW and from my understanding if vehicle breaks down in 1st year under warranty and is in shop over 30 calender days; the vehicle is INDEED A "LEMON" and the law applies so I must take action to be able to be reimbursed the purchase price & all fees minus damages and fair mileage to be treated FAIRLY.

I own a small business and chose the Nissan frontier because it’s the only small pick up truck left on the market when I purchased it. I have 500 miles approximately on the vehicle. The first day I was driving it the transmission locked up and the truck died while I was moving. Pretty scary. They had it at the dealership for about a week and said it needed an update on the computer? In any case I was a little nervous to drive it again but we did. It broke down again in a few days. This time when we put our finger on the push button start, The accessory lights on the dashboard went on and the fan in the engine went on the truck wouldn’t start. Also we couldn’t turn it off. We tried using the key fob as we were told by Nissan and that didn’t work. As I’m writing this it’s been at the dealership for one week so far and they don’t know what’s wrong with it. They initially said it was the alternator. I know nothing about cars and I told them I doubt it’s the alternator. They put a brand new alternator in and that didn’t work. They’re waiting for Nissan to get back to them. I purchase this $33,000 truck right before my business is busy season so I wouldn’t have to worry about the vehicle breaking down. Something tells me this vehicle is going to be a lemon and cause issues ongoing. Unfortunately the lemon law doesn’t Cover businesses. I live in Connecticut and purchased a vehicle in Massachusetts

Replaced 4 Cyl. RAM Promaster City, (not needed anymore) with used 2019 Nissan crew cab Frontier with 6 cyl engine. Do miss the better gas mileage of the Promaster City. Getting only 18 MPG for the Nissan in mostly rural driving. Frontier is much quieter with smoother but noticeably heavier ride. A few things are annoying or odd. 1) You have to reach way out to reach the handle to close the door. Would be better if the interior door handle was placed in the middle or more "forward" on the door. 2) The downhill assist works by light automatic application of the breaks. Had an old Ford F250 with downhill assist that worked via the automatic transmission - it prevented the transmission from upshifting. I think that is a better solution that would not overheat brakes on long downhill grades.3) As with most newer vehicles, no CD player built in. 4). LCD panel on radio has only two brightness settings, Night and Day. Night setting too bright.

Spent several months researching & test driving midsize trucks and purchased a used 2019 Frontier with 18k miles. It lacks tech but in return offers proven dependability, body on frame construction, 2 speed transfer case and factory transmission cooler. Creature comforts like heated seats and zone climate control are a bonus on mid level trim. Front seat comfort and support is superior to it’s peers. The cab is quiet and ride is smooth. I stream music from my IPhone and use an external gps. The truck is everything I need, nothing I don’t, and by far the best value in the midsize truck segment. The truck drives like a sedan in comparison to my beloved Silverado. The Frontier is USA built in Mississippi.

Visited Indiana just after Christmas and was stuck with this truck by Alamo. Was a 4X4 SV. I wasn’t thrilled with driving a truck, as I planned to drive to Ohio and Michigan before returning to Indiana and didn’t need a truck or the low mpg. The 4X4 paid off as the last couple days brought some messy snow. I have had AWD before, but never had used 4 wheel drive. I read the manual and it was easy to carefully switch when needed. My driving was 90 percent highway and when using 2wd got approximately 20 mpg. In poor weather with more city and using 4wd more it was about 17 mpg. The turn radius was poor, but backup camera helped. The ride was okay, but felt very bouncy on bumps. I owned a 2013 Toyota Tacoma 2wd for a short time and I liked that truck much better. The extended cab is nice for the additional seating but hurts side visibility if you are checking your shoulder on lane changes.

The old new 2019 Nissan Frontier

I had a Nissan Pickup back in the early 90's. I also appreciate the simplicity of this 2019 model. I smiled when I flipped down the night setting on the mirror. My lexus has an auto dimming mirror that I can't tell that it's doing anything. This truck is a value proposition and even more so since they're changing the drive train for 2020. All the old simple trucks & cars are going for big money at the auctions. This is a rare new truck that's build old school. Only have 100 miles on mine. The difference between the one back in the 90's is this one has a '1' vin number and that one had a J. I prefer a J, but was willing to compromise for the steal of a century. lolz

Don’t get a manual transmission

My son bought a brand Nissan Frontier 4x4 with a manually transmission. At around 30000 miles the clutch came apart. After a lot of arguing with the dealer they agreed to replace the parts but labor was not included. After the repair the Nissan manager told him he would never buy a Nissan truck with a manual transmission because of the mechanical problems. Apparently they forgot to tell my son that when he bought it new. He drove straight to the Toyota dealer to trade it in.

2020 Frontier SV Midnight 4x2

Everything is perfect but the seats are pitiful they have no lateral support and they are only 2 way unless you get PRO-4X. So if comfort is important then get the upscale model. I have a 2003 frontier and those seats do not hurt my back. It’s like they want to upsell people to get a Titan. It’s a shame in my opinion. Not worth $28,000. I am 6’0” and 165 pounds with slightly longer than average torso. This truck seriously lacks in comfort and I am trading it for a luxury sedan and will just use my old truck when I need a truck.

Known issue that Nissan Corporate won’t even fix

While streaming music from Spotify using my iPhone 8 Plus via Bluetooth, about every 4-10 songs the infotainment screen will freeze then reboot. 2 dealerships have looked at it a total of 4 times, with a total of over 2 weeks in the shop for this one issue. Now I’m told it’s a known problem between their stereo and the most common make of smartphone on the planet. There is no fix, and no timeframe for a fix. Frontier owner websites are rife with posts about the issue going back a year, so I’m not holding my breath for a fix. Both corporate and my local dealership are refusing to fix my truck that hasn’t even made it to the first oil change yet. This is the fifth and final new Nissan in my family.

Considering a New Nissan?

This truck has not changed since 2005 much. There have been some cosmetic changes yet those changes are small and not much of an enhancement. In fact this truck has the poorest interior of all midsize trucks. The engine is fantastic, I love the HP to torque ratios on this truck and the fully boxed frame. Cons are that there are sensor issues(fail before the part they sense), coolant mixing with the transmission giving the user huge bills, power train issues. Unfortunately, every mechanic I have taken this truck to seems to not know how to fix those issues either. Many parts have been replaced by my own hands. This is the frustrating part and in the end you spend a lot of money trying to repair this truck and the worst part is that Nissan dealerships are denying responsibility for any of those issues. They are ignored even though thousand I mean thousands(just google the truck you will see) are reporting transmission issues due to a part that is faulty and allows coolant to mix with transmission fluid. The heater inside the truck has never really worked for me either since I bought it new. It is unfortunate that many users are experiencing the same issues especially if they are safety issues. I do not recommend buying this truck unless youre ok with it lasting 10 years maximum. Do not buy if you plan to make it a long lasting vehicle. The interior seets are also causing me back issues due to how uncomfortable they are. Nissan has a real possible gem here but as long as they don't address and DENY these issues I would say DO NOT BUY this potentially bad ass truck! Months later I'm being asked to update this review and again, youll want to spend another 6K on a Toyota! Being asked again to update the review and it’s on its last leg 14 yrs running and recently replaced rotors, fan clutch, thermostat, spark plugs, and now my coils are going out one by one. Do Not purchase! These trucks dont last!!! UPDATE: There is a really nice new Frontier model coming out in 2022. Heed my warning, it is still a Nissan and likely to have all the same issues the previous frontier had. I talked to a guy with a Chevy and Ford pickup truck who had the same mileage and they had not replaced anything in their pickups other than the TPMS tire sensors. DO NOT BUY A NISSAN, I will never walk into another Nissan dealership! Update: 12/16/2022 I still use the truck and boy it’s nice to have it running. However, every year there are at least 2 major repairs needed on the truck. Since I bought the truck every year it has required one or two major repairs each year. I feel like I built the engine compartment with all the parts. Bottom line this truck was trash when I bought it and has not changed. These trucks do not age well. Inspect for rust on the frame under your Nissan when/if you buy as well. 6/18/2023 No change. 12/2024 I just replaced the power steering pump. Many frontiers are having the same issue and is because the power steering pump connector (nozzle that connects the suction/reservoir hose to the pump is faulty. So if you are leaking address it right away or it will ruin your alternator(like it did to my alternator) and starter. The PS pump connector I am referring to was not machined correctly so there is a slow steady leak coming from what appears to be the pump. Your pump is likely functioning, just check your fluid level and maintain a full level or replace the entire assembly. TO DATE: The last items to replace on the truck are the timing belt tensioners which NISSAN knew was faulty and denied fixing it. Well I’ve had my truck for 20 years and after year 1 those timing tensioners failed. I am still driving with failed tensioners and it whines like a wife. I hate that Nissan couldn’t fix this for me after the thousands I gave them and after they knew about it. I am so glad they are going down in business and the people have had it with NISSAN and no longer buying them. The American people got screwed badly by NISSAN and now they are paying up on all those class action law suits!!! Redemption is delicious!
