This is my second GX. My first was a 2012. I am always surprised by the expert reviews of this SUV. I have driven a Subaru outback, a Volvo XC70, a Toyota highlander and a Chevy Suburban and none of them can come close to the performance of the GX in the snow. I live in Wisconsin and missing a workday due to snow is not an option for me. I have been on the interstate in three blizzards this winter alone and the GX is solid on the road. The gas milage well outperforms stated (22-23) and in a SUV with true 4 wheel drive capability I am pleased. Unlike my husband's suburban, and my neighbors Mercedes and BMW, my 2012 GX has had no mechanical issues, even minor, ever! I traded only for new tech options and safety features and because my neighbor wanted to buy my 2012. I wonder if the reviewers have ever really driven in snow... because the is no better SUV in my mind. My teenagers often use the third row and have never complained. The way the back door swings open, even when parallel parked has never been an issue. The blind spot is huge and the addition of the blind spot monitor will be welcome, I did not have it on my 2012. Update: I have now had my GX for about 6 months and put just over 5000 miles on. I am getting used to the adaptive cruise but I wish I could turn it off if needed. The brake assist has prevented an accident when another car pulled in front of me. Compared to my previous 2012 the touchscreen is more difficult to deal with and at times doesn't register my touch (I am due for maintenance and this may just need an update). The most annoying feature is the front camera that comes on at every stoplight and stop sign. When the camera comes on it interrupts any phone call I am trying to make or any commands that I am verbally giving the navigation system, very annoying! On snow the SUV remains amazing and I have driven a subaru, Volvo, highlander and suburban through Wisconsin winters and this SUV is by far superior. Would still highly recommend and would purchase again despite the annoying tech issues.

Expedition Downsizing / Follow-up review

We have been a Ford Expedition family for years and they served us well hauling boats, kids to sporting events, vacations, moving, weddings etc. We were looking for a new expedition and noticed that the power options were limited to 6cyl eco boost. Apparently Ford decided to do away with 5.4 V8. Too bad. We looked at all of the other domestic Suv's and nothing really hit us. By chance we stopped into the Lexus dealership and noticed the GX460.Granted it's not as big as the Expedition but the kids are all married. The ride is firm solid yet refined and in, many ways better that my exp. Fit n finish is excellent . The overall driving experience is second to none. Acceleration is strong and reliable. We still tow the Whaler and it does it with ease and I have no regrets. After 1000miles we re getting 21.8mpg combined while getting 23 highway. We have not seen or experienced the concerns/issues of prior reviewers. It's an excellent Truck! Since the initial review we now have 3 K miles and it just keeps getting better. Driving in bad weather and snow/ice doesn't phase the GX one bit. Really unbelievable traction and no slip whatsoever in some major snow and ice conditions. The most solid and sure footed truck I have ever driven even without haveing to lock it into 4WD. Much better than the expedition ever thought of being. Fit and finish still great no vibrations or unexplained noise or rattles. Most solid truck I have ever had while still being a refined ride. We now have over 6k miles on the Lexus and it drives as good as it did the day we drove it home. My previous comments regarding fit, finish, perfprmance and overall quality are still on point with no degridation what so ever. Truly the best truck ever, exceeding our expectations . Much better than the expedition ever was. To be truthful though I do on rare occasions miss the extra space of the Expedition but not enough to make me go back to one. I just hook up the utility trailer. No regrets. It’s now been two years since we purchased the 2016 Lexus GX460 Luxury Edition and it is truly the best SUV we have ever owned. It is a smooth, quiet, powerful, refined and go anywhere vehicle. No issues at all just fun and great to drive. My wife likes it so much she want one this time I. Red. I guess another trip to the dealer is in order.

I don't get this. Why is this truck not getting 5 stars in every review . I traded a 2014 VW Touareg TDI for the Lexus. I got tired of the running that the dealer give me. ( Is normal is a German car, is build for performance). Well, in my eyes , the most important thing is to get me where i want to go without having to call a tow truck. Lexus , please don't pay attention to all these spring journalist that think , they know what and how a truck should perform. Please keep making this truck the way it is. I would love to have that 2.8 diesel engine that is been sold everywhere around the world but <<<< for now i will settle for this silk smooth 4.6 engine . Maybe a little turbo ??? next generation ?? in about four years .

This is our third GX. Our '04 GX 470 had almost 200k miles. It's cooling pipe went bust on the freeway, by the time we pulled to the next exit it over heated. It ran another 6 months afterwards before we sold it to CarMax. We bought the new '15 GX and it was totaled a month later after being rear ended by a careless driver. The frame buckled and the rear bumper had the guys front end imprinted on it. I was able to walk away with only a stiff neck.. the other driver had a fractured jaw, broken arm and leg and ribs. The GX saved my live. We bought our third GX a few weeks later. This is a heavy traditional SUV, the acceleration is measured and "stately". Fuel economy is in the high teens, not bad for this type of vehicle. Handling is good if you get used to the truckiness. On the freeway, it is stable and quiet. It's not the quickest, but it does get to 80 to 90 mph before you know it. The only complains I have is the poor placement of the two USB ports in the center console. When plugged in, the sliding hatch cover have to be open. And there are no power ports for the 2'nd row. It got a little irritation having to charge the Kids' ipads on long trips. The Lexus roof rack cross bars are nice looking, however, they sit too close to the roof making tying down cargo a bit difficult. also you need a Torx key to move them. I liked the old GX's roof rack, with plenty of tie in points to strap your cargo. Update, we got side swiped by some guy in a beat up 300. We must be cursed in our GX! The damage was extensive, from the front bumper to the back bumper. The wife barely felt the impact, another testament to the safety of this truck. Luckily only body damage sustained. 6 weeks and $13000 later, the truck was fixed with new bumper, fenders, doors, side step. The only new gripe I have is the stock tires worn out faster than the tire warranty, and the ride is noticeably harsher than before. We will be getting new meats for the truck soon.

Just traded in my 2013 RX for the 2016 GX, which is what I should have gotten in the first place instead of the RX. Can't say enough about how much I love it. Great ride -- feels much more substantial than the RX (although the RX was great), and has all the features I need. Yes, the new remodeled RXs definitely have more bells and whistles but the GX is fantastic!

For giving me a solid well built body on frame SUV with a V8, full time 4wd with low range and a center locking differential. I can go where I want, when I want, tow 6500 lbs, and do it in comfort and quiet with a great sound system, while feeling safe every mile. It has been worth every penny I paid for it. Update, 8/20. I have had absolutely no issues with the GX. I drove it 700 miles yesterday and enjoyed the trip. My best mileage was 23.2, which I think is very good for a vehicle this size with a V8. Great vehicle! Update: The GX couldn’t be doing any better! I have not had a single issue, not a squeak or rattle. Love it! Update: Same as the last review, it couldn’t be doing better. 50,000 miles, not a squeak or rattle, paint is show car quality, runs and drives perfect! Update: The GX continues to run flawlessly, not one single issue! Paint and interior still look like new, and not one rattle or squeak. It’s a pleasure to own this Lexus. Update 8/22. This vehicle continues to impress. I have had zero issues and took it in for routine maintenance the other day. They gave me a 2022 GX loaner. I didn’t notice much difference in the way it drove. I thought mine still drove like new and this verified it. I’m getting ready to load it up and hit the road in it in a few days. It’s a pleasure to travel in it, and I’m looking forward to the trip. Update 2/3/23. The GX is still running well with no issues. I had to have the brakes done , but at 69,000 miles, that’s to be expected. Still rattle free and great on the road. Paint and interior holding up well. Update:8/4/23 No issues to report, the GX is still doing the job trouble free. I have seen the update on the 2024. It looks pretty good, but it is a completely different truck, all new, V-6 twin turbo. It may be out of my price range, so I’m glad I’m still satisfied with mine. I think it’s about the most dependable vehicle you can buy. Update: The GX at 82,000 miles is running and driving like new. No issues whatsoever. I just take it to Lexus for normal maintenance when it tells me to and that’s it! No squeaks or rattles, zero. The interior and paint still look great. I washed it yesterday and put a coat of F-11 Pro on it. It looks like brand new. It glows!

I wanted a true SUV and not a crossover, so that pretty much limited my choices to Jeep, Lexus, and Land Rover (I know there are others like the G waggen, but these are the ones I considered). Although I had and loved a Grand Cherokee ZJ limited, I don't really like the size, comfort or look of the modern Grand Cherokee, so that was not an option. I own a land rover Discovery 2, and although I love it, it is not the most reliable car. The newest generation, the new discovery 5, was louder, uglier and felt less comfortable then the GX. The Velar has a nicer dashboard, but no 4Lo or locking differential AND it is a lot smaller. The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are both more expensive and neither felt all that much more comfortable then the GX (tbh, I think the GX rides better). In addition, it seems that every rover dealership has a few buy backs for sale and my experience with land rover dealerships leaves a lot to desired. So I decided those were not for me. Then there was the GX. Large, strong, dependable, good looking, locking center dif, quiet and comfortable. Is it a sports car? No. But it definitely holds it's own on the highway and up winding mountain roads. It's large enough to haul 4 ( as many as 7) people and a lot of stuff without a worry (both on and off road). Only down sided is that it is NOT fuel efficient. The front seats are not as plush as in my 1995 grand cheorkee limited, but still better than most other SUVs. Now at 20k I can say I haven't had to take the car back to the dealer for any repairs Update: I have 75k miles on it now. Still reliable. Seats not all that comfortable and storage is limited. Other than that, I have no complaints. It does great in snow, mud and gravel. Ok on high. Not very fuel efficient

I purchased my 2017 Lexus GX 460 (V8 4x4) as I simply wanted a vehicle to work, be reliable and look great doing it whilst holding it's value. I can not believe the few whiny, sniveling folks who have complained about nothingness (e.g): "not the best fuel economy" - if 15 to 20+ mpg is bad to you, then you can not afford this excellent vehicle anyway. -Eric (from Coeur d'Alene)

Drove a 2006 Lexus GX for 10 years and 130,000 miles. Not one problem from the day I drove it off the dealer's lot. In August 2016 I purchased a new 2016 GX 460. It is a solid car; extremely quiet and the workmanship is high quality. Very pleased with it. I looked a numerous SUVs ( not crossovers ) and kept coming back to the Lexus GX. For the money it is a good value. Anticipate driving this one for another 10 years.

Just purchase 2017 GX 460 brand new from a dealer. car had 2 miles before i test drove it. Previously i was driving 2006 GX470. Let me tell you GX470 i really a luxury SUV and drives the way Lexus should drive. After driving for a week GX460 i started to notice a light vibration in steering wheel which was kind of odd to me since car has only 200 miles. I took it to dealership, they tested it out and stated you wheels are slightly off balance. (ok can happen not a big deal). I picked it up and drove for another day. Same issue plus car is pulling to the right. Called dealer and made appointment again. After evaluation dealer said you alignment is slightly off and performed alignment (very strange to me for a brand new car). After driving another day same issue just car pull to the left. Dealer had my car for 3 days, and when i picked it up dealer states everything is tested and drives better than any new Lexus on a lot. Today i will be returning it again because problem is still there plus navigation can't get calibrated. At least 2 times a week navi is off by good 15 miles. This lexus does not have power to it at all when driving on a street (my 2010 Accord 4cyl if faster than this GX ) plus when you driving it it feels like you riding a horse. THIS IS NOT A CAR THAT LEXUS USED TO MAKE. Save your money and get MB. I can't wait to get out of this car. Now it has only 600 Miles and i got nothing but problems. Lexus stated it drives like it should. VERY BUMPY ride, NOISY and not worth spending 65K. PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS LEXUS UNLESS YOU LOOKING FOR HEADACHE.

i have owned many Toyota and Lexus products through out the years and they have all been great. This is my first GX. What a truck! It's luxury meets old school solid off road warrior. I lease my cars and got a Lease quote on a 4 Runner with the TRD package, which I loved, but it's not the type truck you can take to an opera, plus the lease program was not so great. Then I looked at the 2017 GX 460 base model Black exterior with Sepia Nu Lux imitation leather interior and all the 4x4 goods that come on this truck. I was amazed how great it drove and just how old school it still felt, but in a good way. This thing is a true off roader and it's based more on the Land Cruiser Prado than the 4 runner. With driverless cars and the electric vehicles being the desired way of the future. I can't imagine this rough and Tough Lexus being made available to much longer and replaced with something more trendy. For us 4x4 truck lovers. Now is the time to grab a 4Runner, GX, land cruiser before they are gone just like the FJ. I love my GX because it's everything the 4Runner is and much more. Will be buying mine at the end of the lease which is fortunately my option to do so, plus the resale value is so good it's truly a no brainer.

Let me start by saying we did NOT buy this because of the badge on the hood! I have read so many comments at the bottom of reviews for the GX that rip it shreds and proclaim it nothing more than a mall crawler, trophy wife truck and an outdated one at that. I will not disagree that in many instances those comments apply, but I applaud Toyota for offering a BOF SUV with a V8, I only wish I didn't have to buy a Lexus to get it. This vehicle is for my wife, and yes she's my trophy and yes she does a fair amount of mall crawling, BUT....we also regularly tow a travel trailer and aren't afraid to traverse trails, cross small streams or other off road activities with bikes mounted on the roof, kids and dogs in the back. We actually NEED capability and USE it! I am a long time Toyota fan, having owned multiple Tacomas and Lexus LS400's when I was in sales and I can't say enough good about their quality and longevity. I sold my last LS400 with 267k on the odometer running strong! With a travel trailer, two kids and a dog the '03 Tacoma double cab V6 wasn't cutting it for tow duties any longer and we test drove and fell in love with the 4Runner's looks and attitude. What I didn't fall in love with was the 4.0L V6 and 4,700 lb tow rating. With that bad news, my research led me to the "Lexified" version of the 4Runner, aka GX460. From the moment we drove it, she loved the interior feel, looks(controversial) and smooth V8. I liked the 6,500lb tow rating and the interior upgrades over the 4Runner. We looked at Tahoes/Yukons but didn't need that much size, looked at Jeep GC's but wanted a 3rd row and also looked at the Land Rover LR4. I absolutely loved the LR4 and was smitten with it's feel, looks, heritage and off road prowess. She didn't care for it at all, and since we plan to keep this vehicle for a long time I figured it was much wiser to go with a Toyota rather than a Land Rover. I quickly realized that Toyota took a smart pill and figured out "Why sell a V8 4Runner, when you can push consumers to the Lexus brand?" We bought in hook, line and sinker. It's a great truck, albeit heavy, thirsty, and expensive but if you want or need to tow and go off road your choices are pretty limited these days. I'm confident it will serve us well for years to come. If you don't have a need for "duty" get an RX or one of the other countless lifted sedans out there. 11/23/16 Update We have owned the vehicle for a year now and towed a 3,500lb camper over a thousand miles on two occasions. The truck doesn't mind a bit and transports its occupants in style and comfort. A couple caveats: 1) We have seen significantly better mileage using premium fuel, not sure why. 2) It returns about 9-12 MPG when towing our camper 3) It sags a bit more than I care for when towing, but we do not have the self-leveling suspension. 4) The "leather" on the seats is sub-par for a $57,000 truck in my opinion. It is my understanding that this model is going away after 2017, so if you want/need a big body on frame SUV for towing in style with Toyota quality you'd better act quickly.

2017 Lexus GX 460 LEANING TO RIGHT SIDE !!!

I have a NEW LEXUS GX 460 and it LEANS to the right. Took it to the dealer and they say "it is within Specs". Vehicle leans 1 1/2" to the right passenger side. Lexus refuses to repair it. Feels unsafe to drive it this way. Based on my research this is a known issue with the GX model and Lexus refuses to admit it. Please, everyone who owns a GX 460 check you vehicle for a lean to the right and contact LEXUS. THIS IS unacceptable!!!!. Check NHTSA and you will see there are more that 8 complaints about this issue. Lexus needs to issue a re-call and fix it !!! UPDATE: After a whole year going back and forth with 3 different Lexus Dealer I had to take my vehicle to an independent Toyota mechanic who was ABLE to fix what LEXUS REFUSED to repair even under warranty. It was a very easy fix , took about 1.5 hours and $28 (parts) + $170 ( labor) . Lexus kept denying the existence of the problem and came up with all kinds of nonsense stories how the vehicle "was designed to lean this way" . No vehicle is designed to lean on one side ....well...unless you buy a Lexus GX460 . Toyota / Lexus should be absolutely ashamed of this ! I can still see on the road a lot of GX 460 leaning to one side due to KDSS problems and I'm sure the owners ( if they even noticed the lean) were told the same nonsense stories.

We had a beautiful 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland that we loved, but at 133k miles the repairs were getting costly (replace air suspension, 2k; headlight module, 1k, etc.), and we needed better rear passenger space. When I'd show my wife pics of potential Jeep replacements, she'd say "looks like a van!" (MDX, Pilot, etc.), and sometimes "where's the wooden steering wheel" - mostly joking, having been spoiled by the fancy Jeep trim. We typically buy late-model used, and came across a certified 2016 GX460 "premium" (aka middle grade) with 29k, black with tan interior, super clean. So far really enjoying the solid feel, quality of materials, the touch of "truckiness" (always enjoyed how the Jeep rocked a little going over the curb), etc. - a very nice machine. Like others, I'm amused by the "professional reviewers" who call it a "behemoth", "vague", "desperately in need of updating" and so on. The thing is essentially the same size as the Jeep, and yet even though the GX is an old-ish design, they got so much more out of the interior space. The 2nd row is definitely roomier, and while we haven't used row 3 yet, at least it has one. And it's an absolute pleasure to drive - strong acceleration, but you need to put your foot into it....not one of those quick-jump-but-no-guts power curves - and the transmission is like butter. The Jeep's tranny used to annoy me, pausing between gears when going up a sharp hill - would need to manual shift too often. Also I don't know the diameter or height of the wheels, but even though they're 18" they have to be as tall as the low-profile 20"s on the Jeep....and of course they absorb shock SO much better. Finally, just about every high-quality 3 row SUV with a reasonable # of miles was in the same general price range. Frankly that made the used-GX choice somewhat easy in terms of value.

Lack of power a real problem

If you are looking for a car to drive in the mountains this is not the car for you. Poor power and the 6 speed trans is constantly downshifting trying to find a low enough gear to get up steep grades. Sloped floor in the storage area puts everything you carry against the rear door so it falls out when you open the door. Had an '05 GX470 that I loved, this is nowhere near the same car. Lexus customer service would do nothing about my problems with this vehicle so I will be trading it ASAP.

GX 460 Nice Vehicle

We've owned a 2017 GX since Apr '17 and have had no problems. Only had a battery replaced, but that was no issue really. Sure, it is far from perfect, the GX does have old school V8 and 6 speed, which do need updating in some form and of course gas mileage is not good. But we love Lexus quality and reliability. I'm sad for those having problem with vehicle. We also had a 2010 GX and not issues. I'm surprised to hear other owners having issue with pull to one side or vehicle tilting to one side. That has to be suspension problem on their vehicles. Doesn't make sense dealer cannot find the problem. Keep in mind, if you go to dealer 3 times to fix a problem and they do not fix it, use the LEMON LAW actions to get them to take it back. Every state has the LEMON LAW. Document your problem and put the paperwork in.

The GX is a bargain. It's extremely comfortable to drive and it holds the road better than any SUV I've driven. It's quiet and comfortable yet it's powerful and agile. There's not a better deal out there. The car is very safe to drive. The cross traffic warning and large rear view camera come in handy when parking, backing up, and maneuvering in close spaces. This is my second GX and I have yet to experience a quality issue or have need of a repair. It's quiet and handles poor road conditions very well.

Vehicle Leaning to ONE side, Lexus refuses to fix

I purchased a NEW 2017 Lexus GX 460 and the vehicle is leaning to the right (passenger side) .Also feels much softer on that side when turning.Took the vehicle to the dealer 3 times already and they refuse to repair it. The even tried to convince me that it was designed to lean this way !!! Feels unsafe to drive it. This is a known problem on the GX 460 (sold as Landcuiser Prado it the whole world except in US) . Google " Leaning Lexus GX 460 and you will not believe how many owners are effected and Lexus refuses to repair. They know there is a problem but will not admit it. Always the answer is " It is within specs " . Looks and feels ridiculously for a 60K SUV. This vehicle shares the same KDSS as the 4Runner, Landcruiser 200 , Landcruiser Prado and it is a known problem for all. The worst part is how Lexus IS handling the problem !!! All owners of GX 460, please check your vehicle and if it leans to the right take to a Lexus dealer. Absolute disappointment!!! Update: 8 months later Lexus still refuses to repair it. At this point I'm not sure if they don't want to repair it because it is expensive to replace there KDSS, because they don't know how to repair it , or because they don't want to admit they have been lying for so long. I talked multiple times with Lexus corporate and one Case Manager even told me that "it is a characteristic of this vehicle to PULL to the right". He didn't even realize the vehicle was leaning, not puling to the right but came up with a lie right away. I guess that is what they are instructed to say because everyone dealing with this problem throughout the country is getting the same answer: your vehicle is within specs or this is a characteristic of your vehicle. It is sad that the same company "Toyota / Lexus " that builds the legendary Land Cruiser also employs such liars. It is so evident that the vehicle has a Serious suspension problem but Lexus keeps denying it. I would absolutely NOT buy another Lexus from now on !

If the Lexus LX 570 is the King of SUVs, the GX 460 is somewhere between the Queen and His Majesty’s Mother. I spent the last three years agonizing whether I could afford the LX 570 and ended up buying what I thought was a fair compromise between my heart and my head. Surprisingly, I found myself absolutely in love after driving the GX a few hundred miles! Let’s be clear: DO NOT buy this car if your intended use is dropping the kids off to school or going shopping; you could be disappointed. And yes, Lexus could have done better with the placement of the USBs, the dull-but-practical instrumentation gauges, and even the navigation display which was upgraded in all other models but this one. Other than that, if you don’t like the gas mileage, I recommend you buy a hybrid! You feel vibrations? Take your left foot off the brake pedal! Suspension feels wimpy? Take it out of the Comfort mode! The GX 460 is an incredibly luxurious, serious and TRUE Sport Utility Vehicle, which means a car made to get you through places you could not imagine walking, climbing or descending; effortlessly and safely towing significant loads and elegantly taking all abuses a luxury sedan would be crying about. Know the car to love the it!!

That fancy tech package that might buy does not work. I bought my GX 460 30 days ago (April 2017). The Enform app is down with no date planned to fix the issues. DO NOT BUY THIS OR ANY LEXUS IF YOU WANT THE APPS TO WORK. Demand that the dealer demonstrate all of the features before you buy. They won't because they can't. It's crap. I have called both the dealer and Lexus. They will not help. Buy the Audi. I wish I had.

We've had this Lexus for around a year now and it's been great! Very reliable, and nice styling. We chose this over the 4Runner because of more luxury options and better exterior styling. I wish we had the second row captain's chairs, but that's only on higher trims. It's overall a very nice car. We've taken it on a long road trip and it was great. Rear entertainment is a great feature, too. You can't go wrong!

The GX is amazing! After two years of ownership, I continue to be pleased. Everything is great, and love the rear control A/C and heat, styling, and the feel and quietness of the drive. I do wish the rear camera was better, but that isn’t a big deal, it works. My only complaint is that I wish it gave more warning when low on fuel, seems to just pop up all the sudden. Everything looks and works great, no regrets here!

If you want a SUV, but not a Truck, then you shod consider the GX. I have the luxury model that gives me the option of smooth freeway driving or off road abilities. The people who complain about milage or small comfort items did not do their research before buying. This rig is tough, reliable, and much cheaper to own than those European SUV'S. I like the ability to adjust the suspension, and also have the luxury of a comfortable ride. The GX gives me both. I've owned four Lexus's, this one has been the best.

Long time car enthusiast here. Experience with everything from a Prelude Si to 911s and too many motorcycles to list. Additionally many off-road vehicles with a lot of time in 4Runners(still love a 4Runner). First the bad: not the latest greatest tech, so so fuel economy in town(16-17.5) on premium, rear door would be more useful with the lift tailgate vs side opening barn door, controls for ac/heat inconvenient to use in anything other than automatic mode. Now the good/great: Supreme confidence inspiring driving dynamics(this thing is a Moose), plenty of power if you throttle it, full time real 4WD, center locking differential, 21-22.5 mpg on long road trips, quietest vehicle I’ve ever experienced, comfortable all the time, utterly reliable, safety nannies work but many can be disengaged if desired, tows 6500 pounds but you’ll hardly notice the weight up to 5000, hydraulic body leveling system controls sway wonderfully(but can make hard braking seem more dramatic), excellent turning radius, surprising nimble for being so large, can climb truly intimidating mountain terrain. Has a way of just making you feel safe and secure all the time. The first long road trip we took in this car with the family made me love this vehicle. My wife turned to me during the trip and said it was like riding in first class vs economy. If you’re looking for a old school reliable luxury(ish) SUV this is as good as it gets. No vehicle is perfect. But this is a special car, if it meets your needs and can afford it. Loved all my time in 4Runners but this takes the best of all they have to offer and improves on it. Happy trails

I have 2015 Lexus Gx460 that is at the shop for leaning to passenger side. When you drive the car sometimes it feels like the car have the front flat tire and it’s not. The car by it self is lowered one left side i mean the hood is lower to the groun than the right side. Took it to dealership and they everything is by specs. Even it does show when u measures with tape measure from ground to the fender one side is lower then the other one for like a inch. Not satisfied with that.

This is the SUV, not crossover or anything like the BMW X5 or Acura MDX. It drives like a true SUV should be. I have less then 1000 miles on it. I consider it as a full size and luxury type of the Toyota FJ curser. Which is the go everywhere kind of vehicle. I am very happy with the vehicle.

Looked for years at buying a land cruiser or 4 runner. Ended up buying a certified used GX. Great value for a low mileage vehicle that is warrantied for the next 2.5 years with unlimited mileage. Absolutely love the look and feel of this truck. V8 is music to my ears and the build quality is excellent. I feel like I’m driving a mini tank that can handle just about anything. Tech isn’t great but good enough for me. I’m getting around 20mpg combined which isn’t bad for a vehicle of this weight. Wish it took regular gas vs premium but not a big deal.

I stole this title from a YouTube video I watched before buying one of these. You have to know what this is before buying it. This is an old school vehicle. It is incredibly well built, will handle any weather you can throw at it, and will last forever if you do just basic maintenance. It is not fast, it is not fuel efficient, it does not have the latest tech. But it is a supremely well made machine that will carry you, your family, your boat/toys comfortably and quietly anywhere and back. My father owned 2 of the older LX470 vehicles and they drove just as well with 150k miles on them as when they were new. If you know anything about the GX or any of the other vehicles that come from this Toyota factory, they are built to LAST. You will notice that with everything you touch in this vehicle. It is built to be used hard and still work great many years from now. I really hope that Lexus does not discontinue this product as I would love to buy an updated one that still uses the same body on frame robust build quality, while perhaps taking the chance to add some modern features that this vehicle is lacking.

Rides like a farm tractor, transmission seal failed at 30k miles replaced under warranty thankfully, also the steering wheel rattled like crazy and lexus claimed this was “normal”. Its also slow and with bad gas mileage. Was really bummed out. Couldn’t wait to get rid of it. There are much better options just do not buy this one.

After having technology issues with another brand my husband decided to spoil me and got me a brand new one with 2 miles on it! He is always around Lexus products I never has really had any problems with them, until this one! From technology issues with phone syncing, voice recognition issues, navigation map issues, to excessive bouncing rough vibrations from front right end, constantly having tires balanced, road force, even had to have my Michelin tires replaced sooner than normal because they wore out before their time, bad tires. New tires still have the balance tires constantly, check alignment, extremely bumpy ride all the time they keep saying it’s normal for the type of platform a four-wheel-drive that it is. But yet I can get into other vehicles of theirs that are loaners that are of the same model and they ride smooth as a baby’s a.. Camera issues with the screen freezing or slow to switch back to normal screen they can’t figure out the problem says everything checks out normal no codes. I have had to have the brain replaced in it. And still have the same problems and more new problems. I feel terrible complaining to my husband about it because we spent a lot of money on this one and it’s nothing but a headache. And if it wasn’t so much work to file a lemon law soon I would’ve done it already and still may it’s just so much work!!

Bought this car after driving 4Runners for 25 years. Considered it to be more luxurious version of my previous cars. Finding so many features I don't like: needs hi-test gas, poor gas mileage, poor interior design (cup holders in awkward posituon, less accessible places for change etc), awkward side-opening back door (does not protect me from rain, awkward loading large packaged).

Far and above more reliable than a Land Rover / Range Rover, BMW or MB with resale that is legendary. If you get the Luxury Package, you get it all. Sure it does not ride like a RX but it is a body-on-frame and has a real V8, AWD and air suspension for heavy loads. I like this so much that I bought another for myself as the other is my wife’s. The build quality is extremely high and it is very quiet but plenty quick. On a road-trip to the mountains, it got 20.7 mph with 4 people and full of luggage - almost 9 mpg better than my last vehicle. Still love it after 5 years.

Everyone knows this is an ancient platform with ancient technology and poor fuel economy. Really, really poor fuel economy. I average 14 mpg. The payoff is epic reliability and a delightful V8. My truck has just under 130k, and yes, this is a true truck, and it has had no trouble nor repairs. My Luxury trim has the great Mark Levinson sound system, and I'm satisfied with the interior materials and appearance. The third row is tight, but smaller adults will fit back there, if they are flexible enough to make the crawl. If the third row is up, you won't fit anything except a folded umbrella in the cargo area. Here is the deal breaker - even with the rear air suspension, and the sophisticated electronic shocks, this thing rides horribly. So, so rough and bouncy. You bobble and bounce and judder down the road. The rear air suspension continuously bottoms out with a hard smack when you compress the air springs. It's embarrassing and absolutely nothing like the previous GX 470, or most other Lexus models. This has been the case with expensive Bridgestone and Michelin tires. I am bewildered when professional reviewers find the ride to be acceptable or even a pro of this vehicle. There are many other vehicles that are better suited for a comfortable suburban life. I use my 2016 Lexus GX 460 all day every day and I am reminded of how much I regret my purchase. My only consolation is the smooth ride and it ends there. The GPS is not accurate, telling you "you have arrived" if you are in the vicinity. I do not expect the GPS to drop me off at the exact location, but at least bring me to the right street. Also when you are "close enough" in their opinion, it tells you to "look at the the map". I am not new to GPS cars and this is the worst I've ever used. Even the Ford Focus car rental GPS is way better. I find myself using my phone to navigate which is counter productive considering I supposedly have a GPS in the car. Another concern is you have to press the screen 4x to just get air conditioning, adjust the amount of air, or change direction of air. This is a hazard when driving. The Apps also do not work. I cannot even use the Pandora and always get a "tether error." How can Lexus make electronics so complicated than what they should be? Their engineers should test drive and use their electronics to experience the pain of using it. Horrible!!!!!

This SUV is built like a tank with reliability, durability and longevity second to none. The interior is nicely done and of course its off road prowess is also second to none. The ride is also surprisingly comfortable and absorbent for a true body-on-frame SUV designed to tackle some really tough terrain. Sadly that is where the positives end. The GX masquerades as a "luxury" vehicle when it is not luxurious in the least. There is more to a luxury vehicle than putting some leather and some fancy gadgets inside. The GX has one of the ABSOLUTE WORST powertrains there is. The engine is simply horrendous! It is EXTREMELY noisy, sounding like a vacuum-cleaner on the slightest of grades. Even on the freeway at about 60 to 70 mph the exhaust drone gets very tiring after a while. Pretty shocking for so called "luxury" vehicle. The engine is also not the smoothest and pretty bad actually for a V8. There are some on here that have stated that this vehicle is "extremely quiet". These folks are likely certifiably DEAF if they can't here the constant droning from the engine, which is the worst from around 1800 RPM to around 2600 RPM. That was an absolute deal breaker for me, and it is why I got rid of mine, even though this was a very difficult decision, as I do consider reliability as one the top most important aspects of a vehicle. In short, I do not recommend this vehicle at all. If it were a bare bones vehicle it would probably be OK, but for a high end luxury vehicle it is a joke!

This is my 2nd GX 460. I love how it drives and handles. When my 2012 came off lease I went to another brand because Lexus was not keeping up with the technology such as remote start, adaptable cruise control, integration with smart phones... But shortly after getting my wife her 5th RX I checked out the advances in the 2017 GX technology and appeared they'd done a good job catching up, so I pulled the pin on a 2017 in Dec 2016 and everything was great until March. I've got Lexus Technology Support on "speed dial" I've talked to them so much. Enform remote just refuses to work. Started out as "system upgrade issue" and went down hill from there. Three times I've been told that they have to "create a special ticket to resolve my issue and someone will contact me in 24-48 hrs". NEVER HAPPENED! Even the local dealer tech guy has been frustrated in trying to help me out. You would think that a company that builds great cars, has great dealers (I've bought 7 Lexus's since 2000), would be able to roll out a technology upgrade without screwing it up. Almost to 50k miles, long road trips, snow, dirt, hit a possum, hit a road sign. Still looks great. Beer bongs has but it’s kind of magic. Road trips are absolutely sublime.

I was looking for a midsized SUV that could tow a decent load and have a good 4 wheel drive system. I have a boat on a mountain lake where we also have a house with a fairly steep driveway. The GX has a standard equipped 6,500 tow rating which is much better than most in the class. It also can really take on any road condition well ahead of its competitors. You may get a fancier looking vehicle in this class, but with a Lexus nameplate and the capability there is not many that present the value you get with this vehicle. 70,000 miles in now and no issues.
