Overview
The EV6 is part of Kia's electric SUV lineup that includes the smaller Niro EV and the larger three-row EV9. Although it looks like a hatchback, the EV6 is an SUV and provides just as much room as a hatch while sporting a sleek design that bucks the usual mainstream SUV look. It's also much more fun to drive than your average SUV. However, its cargo area is on the small side. The current EV6 boasts a lengthy EPA-estimated range of up to 319 miles and impressive charging capabilities. We likely won't see many changes for 2026 because the EV6 was refreshed last year with interior and exterior design updates, more range and a Tesla-style NACS charging port.
Edmunds spotlight: To Tesla Supercharge or not
Starting for the 2025 model year, the EV6 comes equipped with a Tesla-style NACS charging port, meaning it can use Tesla's fast-charging Supercharger stations without an adapter. This is good news for folks who primarily rely on fast-charging stations because the Supercharger network is the largest fast-charging network in the country. Supercharger stations also usually have more stalls than other brands and are very reliable. If you're planning a cross-country road trip in your EV6, using mostly Supercharger stations will likely make the trip easier. The EV6 can still use fast-charging stations from non-Tesla brands like Electrify America and EVgo, but it will need an adapter. However, there is one caveat: The most powerful non-Tesla stations can charge the EV6 a little quicker than most Supercharger stations.
Competitors to consider
One of the EV6's main rivals is its corporate cousin, the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Since they share the same platform, both have similar range and charging speeds. They are also similar in size and price. However, the Ioniq 5 isn't as fun to drive but is more comfortable. The Chevrolet Equinox EV is another solid alternative. It's much more affordable and provides a longer max driving range, but it takes longer to fast-charge. The updated Tesla Model Y is one of our favorite electric SUVs thanks to its excellent range, driving demeanor, tech and comfort. If you like the EV6's sporty looks and sharp handling, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is another worthy rival to consider.
2026 Kia EV6 trim level differences
[Editor's note: The following unofficial information is based on last year's EV6. We expect the 2026 model will have a similar lineup and we'll update this section once we have complete information.] The Kia EV6 is a small electric crossover SUV that's available in Light, Light Long Range, Wind, GT-Line and GT trim levels. Kia offers different combinations of battery packs and electric motors that result in different power outputs and range.
Which EV6 trim does Edmunds recommend?
Kia hasn't released official information on the 2026 EV6 as of this writing. We'll update our recommendation if anything changes, but based on last year's EV6, we recommend going for the Light Long Range. It comes generously equipped for a base model, and thanks to its relatively low starting price, you can splurge on all-wheel drive (dual motors) if you need the extra traction or want more power. For premium features, opt for the Wind model.
