Test drove several cars from Honda, Scion and Toyota. BORING! Reporters please Stop comparing to a CRX. May I remond you how much you all complained about the styling among other things? The Veloster does many things well and yes it is a quirky car to drive. So what do you get? You get a car that is sporty, different, great gas mileage, huge cargo area, great foot room, awesome features and a blast to drive! It feels much faster than the numbers suggest (though off line is not great) but this is why it turns over those great gas numbers. This car is no Acura, BMW or mini and should not be compared at this price point. I love mine and FYI my other car is a BMW!

I love the look of the car - I have the orange one. I like how fast it accelerates and it gets good gas mileage. The technology on it is pretty cool - like satellite radio and bluetooth and being able to remote start the car. The heated seats are a plus, and it has keyless entry so I never need to fumble for my keys to get into the car. The keys just stay in my purse. One problem I had immediately after leasing it is that the sound system would make a vibrating rattling sound when I'd turn on the radio at a medium to high volume.

I have owned this car for a little over a month and put about 2800 miles on it, and I love it. After reading (and watching) literally every car review done for this car, I was comfortable with what this car is, and isn't. I really was surprised by how quiet the ride is. The suspension is a little firm so you feel the bumps a little more, but it's not too bad. I also think the engine is perfectly adequate for what this car is intended to be (a sporty looking economy car). It's not as "underpowered" as a lot of reviews would have you believe. I also love the bold design of the car. This shows that you can get something economical without feeling like you're driving a toaster on wheels.

I've had my 2014 Veloster for 2 weeks now - and I gotta admit - I LOVE this car! There's a few weird little things that I'd change about it, but for the money, I am very satisfied with the purchase. It's styling is cutting-edge both inside and out. The standard features on a base model impressed me. It turns heads, and it's fun to drive! I opted for the 6 speed manual transmission, and I"m glad I did, because with an automatic transmission, this engine wouldn't let this car get out of it's own way. That aside, the fit, finish, and clean lines remind me of a much more expensive European car - Hyundai did something right with their new models!

I have only had it for a few days now but I can't put into words the level of awesomeness of this car. This car is a bat mobile / tron futuristic spaceship rather than just a car. I haven't even begun to toy with all the gadzillion features it has but I can say for certainty that a trinity of unique style, power, and economy have birthed this majestic wonder.

I had a Hyundai Accent that was given to me. It was a 98 that I did work on for my daughter. I drove it one day to look at a new one, and saw the Veloster. I didn't know then that I would be buying one in the next few months. I love the Veloster's handling on the turns, and the great gas mileage, and the 6 on the floor. Everyone looks at it like its from space, and my teens are proud. I get at least 35mpg and I drive long distances to work. It's not zippy from the start, but it accelerates plenty to get up to speed entering the highway. It also turns only 3500rpms at 95, and I wont say what it can do, cause I'll get arrested.

This is my first Hyundai and so far, it's a mixed bag. I am in my late 30's and I wouldn't consider myself the intended demographic for a Veloster. Pros - The car is fun to drive, handles great, gets about 32 mpg average. Plus, the base model includes bluetooth, A/C, cruise control, XM and keyless entry. Just what I needed and nothing I didn't- well done Hyundai. Cons - There is a constant loud rattle/creaking in the dash/glove box area that is driving me absolutely nuts. I hate for this to be a reason I don't like driving it, but it's getting to that point. I'm going to see if the dealership can do something at my first oil change.

DON'T Buy a 2013 Veloster Turbo

I love the Veloster Turbo. Best value in the warm hatch market. Competes with civic SI, mini S, Fiesta ST. That said don't buy the 2013 model! Buy an 2014 or higher It has fatal flaws in the motor that are regularly causing massive engine failures. If your under warranty it will be covered as long as it's not modded. If you do get a 2013, make sure the sparkplugs are upgraded, the ECU updated and the Fuel like Recall completed. I advise consulting an automotive forum for more detials.

The warranty first of all has a catch. Free oil changes...well if you take it in every 7K miles anything in between is your dime. Read the warranty carefully. The sits were really uncomfortable at first and after major irritation it ended up...just ok. They can be hard to see out of. The cargo area was really nice. I had a roof noise and other rattle noises I had to take it back several times to fix...when you do...they don't give you a rental car...you must pay for it yourself. The fuel economy was fine as long as you drive the speed limit everywhere you go. The tires are crap and when you go to put new ones on the size is expensive. I didn't get the Turbo but should have. Handled pretty good. When you need the secondaries to open they flood and leave you with no power. It hesitated many times leaving me with no power and winding engine. It has so much horsepower then it flattens out. The single back door became a nuisance. The sound system is - not good. Mine was a Remix and when I sold it, it did nothing for me on the sale of it. Cute car but needs alot of work still to be a great car!

I drive a 2013 Turbo (had it 10 months) and my wife has a 2014 ReFlex (1 month). We love them both. The turbo is perfect for me. Driving in a "hill" city the turbo gives me the boost I enjoy. My wife is perfectly happy with the basic engine. Both get great mileage. We have already had them both on mountainous road trips of over 1000 miles. Both averaged over 36 mpg in such conditions (highway and towns). On a highway trip only her's got 42 mpg. As "seniors" we are enjoying the youthful styling of the car. Her ReFlex is a beauty with the extra chrome and the Ice Pearl color. The car is a great value for its price range. I suspect we will be repeat customers. 2016 update: traded my wife's for a small SUV. She is short and needed to sit higher. Traded my '13 turbo for a new '16 turbo in May. Love this one every bit as much. A few minor improvement, 7 speed auto instead of 6 speed and better suspension.

Hi, I just wanted to give my input so that others who live in snowy weather or do a lot of driving (like me) don't make the same mistake I did. I bought my Veloster (non-Turbo) in May 2013 and I admit it was a total impulse buy. This car is different-looking, super-cute, has all the bells and whistles one could ever want, and the MPGs you'll get on it is phenomenal...it rivals a lot of the hybrids out there. There were many times that I got as much as 38 or 40 MPGs on the highway, which was great considering that gas was almost $4 a gallon back in 2013. The interior design is snazzy and looks totally futuristic, without being too funky or impractical like you would see in a Toyota Prius. The car's interior controls are intuitively designed, so it's user-friendly and within easy reach from the driver seat, if not already on the steering wheel itself. The technology this car offers is fantastic for a vehicle in this price-range, especially the navigation system (which I did use a lot since I drive a lot for my job). The panoramic sun roof is bigger than most I've seen in compact cars and the three-door design is unique, although it does take a little getting used to if one is used to the standard 4-door models. This is the car that one will definitely get a lot of complements on...even after having it for 2+ years, I still had people stopping me and telling me how "cool and different" my car looks. This car does have a great rear-view camera, which is good because the back window is tiny and there are a lot of blind spots due to the odd shape of the back side windows. The brakes in this car are also great....there were more than a few times when I came upon slowing traffic due to construction or an accident and this car stopped on a dime. The seat comfort is okay but not great, and it's difficult getting in and out of the vehicle. The back seats in this car are almost like an after-thought; they are not very comfortable at all. The cargo space in the back hatchback is surprisingly roomy for a car this size; I was able to get medium-sized furniture and a fair amount of boxes in the back once I put the back seats down. Even with the back seats up, you can still get a couple of big, fully-packed suitcases in there, with room for some carry-on items too. Okay, here are the downsides to this car: for one, it has really poor acceleration. The Veloster looks like it would move fast and nimble, but its acceleration is sluggish at best. I heard it's better in the Turbo model, but if you have the standard like I did, it's surprisingly slow. The ride in the car is rough, especially the more miles you put on it, and you will feel every bump and pothole on the road. If you live in a state where you have nicely paved highways and side streets, this shouldn't be an issue, but we have some really crappy roads in Colorado so I constantly felt jostled around while driving, which only added to my stress levels on a daily basis. I was constantly worried that I'll accidentally hit a big bump or pothole, which will then make the Veloster scrape the bottom being that it's so low-profile. Speaking of the low-profile, I don't do any off-road driving or anything like that, but the low profile of this car can be an issue on poorly maintained or weather-damaged roads. But here's the biggest issue I had with this car: this car is great in the summer or in warm-weather climates, so if you live in Florida or California where the roads are nice and the weather is nice most of the year, then this is the car for you! However, this car cannot handle snow or heavy torrential rains at all! If you are trying to go up a hill in snowy weather, this car will slip and slide all over the place! I dreaded snowy winter days in this car, as I commute 40 miles one way on the highway to work. When it snowed, I would slip and slide the whole way and be praying to all the saints and angels to get to work in one piece. There were a few times I couldn't even back out of my driveway in this car when it snowed. Even with all-weather tires, winter-driving was dicey at best in the Veloster. In light rains, the Veloster does okay but it can easily hydroplane during the heavy rains so you had to go very slow. The high performance tires required for this type of car is not practical if you do a lot of highway driving like I do; I had to replace my tires once a year, which gets expensive if you need all-weather tires. The higher mileage I got in this car, the more it rattled and vibrated, which eventually took its toll on the speakers and sound system. Overall, this is a great little car if you live in warm weather and do mostly city driving, but for me, it just didn't fit my needs living and working in Colorado with its unpredictable weather and roads. Sadly, I ended up trading in my cool Veloster this weekend for a much more sturdier and practical 2016 Subaru Crosstrek, which is the quintessential Colorado car.

WALK AWAY FROM THE HYUNDAI!!

TexasDriver, 09/13/2017
2013 Hyundai Veloster 3dr Hatchback w/Gray Interior (1.6L 4cyl 6AM)

I was excited that I would love this car but if I could give anyone any advice in this world, it would be to WALK AWAY FROM HYUNDAI. The moment I saw it on a lot, it was love at first sight. But let me assure you, this is a one-sided relationship with a very unreliable partner. I bought mine brand new and within the first month of ownership began to have major problems, experiencing a complete power shut down leaving me stranded on the interstate in the middle of nowhere on a road trip. After several hours of waiting for a tow to the nearest dealership, I was informed they had no resolve, as they drove it right off the toe truck. I still live in fear that this could happen again unexpectedly at any time. How scary would this be if it happened again in the middle of a major intersection? In addition to this, I don't have enough fingers and thumbs to count the amount of times I have taken it in to have my buzzing speakers repair. Essentially, the dealerships have told me that they "use a very poor grade adhesive to glue the cones on", thus, resulting in the repeated malfunctions. Yet, each repair session, they continue to use the same adhesive. And they cannot provide me a better material. Stay mindful that it includes low profile tires - I live in Dallas, TX which is riddled with countless potholes. Lesson learned, this is my fault for not considering this factor. Each wheel scraped along entire circumference after the first few months of ownership...Just a heads up. Perhaps, the most frustrating are the many concerning sounds coming from underneath the car. The sound started as a light metallic rattle, squad and chirps. Then evolved into what I know of an old rusty truck climbing up a rocky hill. Of course, a little 3 door hatch should NOT sound like this. On a recent trip to Eastern Tennessee, the elevation caused this sound to turn into a deep 'Whoofing' sound. I have to admit, not only did my passengers and I notice it, but I attracted some strange looks from several pedestrians during that trip. I immediately took it to a series of dealerships to investigate and correct, however after each appointment, each service manager assured me they couldn't hear anything unusual. And all but one dealership treated me with such disrespect, the service from the brand alone has convinced me to create detractors at any opportunity I have from now on. However, they returned my Veloster back to me, only to continue to hear the same combinations of sounds. I am almost at 60k miles, which will apparently use up all I have left for my initial warranty. I assure you, I plan to trade this in before this year ends. In conclusion, I chose this car because it was cute, had a good listing of MPGs, and was comfortable to sit in the drivers seat and had that phenomenal 100k drive train warranty. But since leaving the sales lot, I have increasingly learned to LOATHE this vehicle. And the warranty is a joke. They cannot resolve any problems I've experienced and will NEVER consider Hyundai again. I feel sorry for whoever decides to give me money for it when I trade it in. This is as honest a review can get guys. Take it from me, go buy a Honda or Toyota. Warranty or no warranty, a Hyundai is STILL that crappy Hyundai we used to know. Save yourself the crappy trade in value and the HEADACHE.

I bought my Veloster Turbo 'new' in 2013. She has a little over 200 kms (122 miles) on her when I got her. I live in Ottawa, Ontario (Canada). As I write this, a little over 8 years later, her mileage is 179,000 kms. (Or 111,225 miles). During this period I have had to replace the entertainment/nav console (which was done under warranty), the fuel pump assembly, the hatchback latching system and the tie rod ends. I love this car. It's fun to drive, very economical on gas, very responsive, it's still very stylish and has been mechanically quite reliable. I am religious about the oil changes. She is only now beginning to develop a little rust on the left side rear quarter panel, along the edge of the wheel well. This is something I will have to attend to shortly. And this is after spending 8 winters up here in Canada. She is my daily driver and has taken my wife and I on many wonderful road trips, to Shenandoah and the Blue Ridge Parkway (many times), to Nova Scotia, to New Orleans... the list goes on. She shows no signs of slowing down. Take this for whatever it's worth.

I have a 2013 VT. If I knew then I would be financing a problem, I would have settled for some other hatch with decent MPG. 1st, the car rattles and creaks like its not screwed, glued or assembled properly. Get used to it. The rear hatch rattle is MOST LIKELY the rear spoiler nuts coming loose. Put some locktite on them and it should work. 2nd, be prepared to return the car MANY times for the factory stereo having issues. The paper speakers will tear, the dust cap (silver center) will come unglued, and the dealership will only glue it back together. Be ready for that. 3rd, expect the transmission to give you some times when it decides to do what it wants to do. Sometimes shift smoothly, sometimes shift abruptly. Dealership says its normal, and there's no issues. 4th, A/C control switch has issues. Mine at about 12,000 miles would not work on #2. Fine on #1 and #3, but to get #2 to work you had to hold it in between #2 and #3 position. Had it changed twice before 50,000 miles. 5th, My turbo went out at 64,500 miles. With cruise control set at 70mph on the interstate my turbo went out. Bearings started to make howling noises and the car had NO power. Took the car to a Hyundai dealer in Baton Rouge (on Hwy 61) and I was told "Its over-filled with oil, just drain a little, and it will be fine". Ha Ha Ha! Really? Took it to another dealership and they said the car has issues and they diagnosed it to be the turbo had a cracked shaft and bad bearings. Now, I am under 72,000 miles and the bearings are starting to make the noise again. Dont do 'regular' maintenance on this car. Do PREVENTATIVE maintenance as well. I doubt I will make it to 100k on this car. I was informed its because it is a 2013 and that it has been straightened out by Hyundai for the later years. Good thing this is my last Hyundai, I wouldnt want to spend the time and money to test that theory. *IF* this car had those issues above fixed, I'd say this car is worth each and every penny spent. It's quick, nimble, and a fun car to drive. Especially quick....FOR A HYUNDAI! I LOVE the sound system's audible performance. This is one of the best factory sound systems I have heard yet, better than the Bose in my Escalade. If you want one, buy used. I cant even trade this car in, they only offer HALF of what I owe. I've seen some '13s for under $10k. Do yourself a favor, buy used or get a different hatch. Best thing i did...got rid of this POS.

7 years, 220,000 km (137,000 mi) and only routine maintenance. I don’t drive it hard but when it’s Turbo time I don’t hesitate to kick it. The best thing about the car is the seats. I drive at least an hour to work and an hour home and my butt or back never get sore. Wraps around me just the right amount. Next best thing is the sound system. Have the Nav package and did not need to upgrade anything. Reliability - maybe I should have put that first. I take it for granted but this car has given no issues other than the Bluetooth sometimes not connecting. Now for stuff I don’t like as much. For a sporty car the ride and handling is...like an econo car. As soon as I try to get zippy the front end goes mushy and the back end bounces. I changed the rims from stock 18 down to 17 in and that helped some. Glad I got the Turbo engine, it is just fast enough, can’t imagine what it would be like doing highway on ramps with the regular engine. Hey the turbo does make my car a gas zipper and that part is great, but performance wise, not what I expect when I hear “Turbocharged” Rear visibility is poor. Back up camera helps a lot but I need to keep my mirrors just so in order to feel good on lane changes. Trunk floor gets very hot from the exhaust underneath. Bluetooth for my phone will fail to connect, happens about once a month and needs several restarts to get it working again. Dealer replaced the head unit twice under warranty but no joy. Bluetooth microphone is crummy. I think that’s just the evolution of Bluetooth though, back in 2013 we were happy just to have the option and didn’t have half hour visits on the car phone. Modern microphones are way better. Hey I don’t have to listen to it so it’s anyone else that complains. Paint peeling. Apparently the dark blue that I have is known to peel. Mine happened when the dealer power washed my car at oil change time, so the dealer had to fix it....side door and rear quarter panel. Overall I love the car for what I do with it, long drives to work, getting groceries, tooling around the country in the summer. It gets great fuel mileage, is peppy enough, and has enough space for 4 when needed or to put larger items in the hatch. Plus it still gets looks :)

I bought this 2013 Orange Turbo with 14000 miles on it for less than $15,900. Sticker on it new was $28000+. This car has all the options, moon roof, paddle shifters, etc. It was unusual for the left side tires to be shot, but figured it was a turbo and the previous owner had some fun with it. I am old and should have bought a car that sits a little higher up. Averaging about 26-28 mpg on regular gas. So far so good.

I bought this can in 2015 as a used car that was cheep with only 20k miles on it. Clean car fax report and still under warrant. Well I should have ran for the hills because to this date I have paid for the car twice with repairs and it now has 112k on it. So this is the list of thinks fixed by the dealer under warrant. Nothing as warranty is not transferable. So here is the list. Climate control system twice First set of spark plugs Both oxygen sensors Cytolytic converter Ac compressor and condenser High pressure fuel pump Entirely new motor as piston failure from connecting rod. New plugs again New cytolytic converter again New both O2 sensors again Alternator RF wheel bearing LF wheel bearing right side CV axle LF CV axle Window washer motor Brake pads and rotors all the way around All four stereo speakers as center cone glue deteriorated Set of tires time 2. And of course Mobile one oil change every 5k miles So if your up to the challenge and have a big checking account and like this cool looking little car go buy one and enjoy the journey. So you may think why in the world would I keep fixing this car. First like I said the car was cheep under 10k. And two I have done all the work my self and three I keep telling my self this is the last thing for a while.

I've loved everything about this car, and I've not had a single problem with it in my ownership. There are a few departments where it is lacking, namely it's lack of power, however this was to be expected with the range of cars that this is offered/compared as well as for the price. It is very comfortable to drive, maintaining it is a breeze, insuring it is cheap, and the warranty is wonderful. One of the only other drawbacks I know of is if you have taller passengers in the back, there's not as much headroom there.

The Hyundai Veloster for me has been an amazing car. Great control, steering, and power and really well maintained interior. I definitely like the added power of the turbo model versus the normal and it rides amazing. Despite having over 100,000 miles, it seems in good shape and I could hardly tell it was 6 years old when I drove it. Will be driving this car for as long as it stays running.

This is my first Hyundai after driving Nissan cars for so many years. But I have friends who swear by Hyundai's quality that I finally caved in and bought one. I saw the 2012 model last year and liked it immediately and saw that the price was great too for all the stuff that came with the car. So when I decided to get a new car it was an easy choice. I got the 2013 version on the first Veloster I saw a year ago.

My girlfriend and I both purchased new Hyundai's last year. Elantra for her, Veloster Turbo for me. After this, we will be trading them in ASAP! Highly disappointed in the dealer and manufacture support with my Veloster's clutch failures. I would assume the company would be paying close attention and offering more support and care for a new model release. Especially during the first couple years as quirks and arising issues are being worked out and brought to their attention. I will say it was a fun experience driving the Veloster Turbo but I can't say that about owning. My lady and I will not buy Hyundai's again after the experience we've been through and financial hardships this car caused

88k miles and the car is only worth $4200. Bought it two years ago and it just continues to break down a lot! The tires wear out fast, speakers are blown. Can’t keep a front end alignment on it. The AC broke, replaced 3 batteries in 2 years! Dual clutch transmission is going out all at 88k miles! Don’t say you were not warned! Hyundai suck. We paid $13k 3 years ago and now it’s worth $4200

Too many problems, unwilling to fix. Many times the radio stopped working, finally they replaced it. The back up sensors constantly beep. They fixed one, but now it beeps again and they said it's cold outside and that's normal when it's cold. There is an air flow problem. When I drive the car and it's cold outside, the temperature with the heat on high is below freezing from the seats down. The dealership tested and found the temperature to be below freezing, but there is nothing to fix. Now the keyless entry works half the time, and they won't fix it. Bottom line, don't buy this car if you live in a cold climate. Don't pay $28,000 for a car that works 8 months out of a year.

I've had this vehicle almost 2 years and have found it satisfactory. Cost less than comparable models and yet comes with all the the amenities that one could need: moon roof, bluetooth, Steering wheel controls, usb port, auxiliary port, and Faux leather w/ mesh seats. Sporty styling, but the third door makes it more convenient than your conventional 2 door coup/hatchback. At only 168 inches long it makes finding parking a breeze (Important in Brooklyn these days). Despite its small size, it has ample cargo room when you fold the seats down. However, the ride is VERY stiff and you can't open the windows in the rain due to leakage directly on to speakers (design flaw). Good value overall.

We bought our Veloster in protest against the high cost of fuel. This little gem can go more than twice as far as our previous car on a smaller tank at 3 hours a day in both bumper to bumper and open road traffic. Love the design and low rider feel of the car as a driver especially, but our 2 preteen kids complain about the back seat being cramped and boring, and lack of plugins and lighting for their various electronics. A bit slow on the take off, and a bit of a sticky 1st gear that needs extra push on the clutch, but each car has their own personality. Could use a device holder and an under seat storage compartment in the front. Love the sporty look and feel without the high cost.

I had this for about 1 year. Problems with the sunroof but thanks to an extended warranty that was taken care of..nearly $5000. I was ran into a couple of weeks ago and just wanted to share that my little car handled it well. May she rest in peace. I am looking to replace it with the newer model. Great on gas. Fun on little road trips. Even the dogs liked it.

I have owned this car for the last two years. Within a month of purchasing, I needed to have a new transmission installed. Within a few months of purchasing, I had to have my stereo/entertainment console replaced! It lags in take off, and will every now and then struggle to go. I almost got hit because of turning and this happened!!! I strongly recommend you steer clear of this car!

Ok, I've read your reviews and it looks like I'm a loner out here that has acceleration issues all the time. I can't go 35 mph without it chugging and begging to please go at least 45 mph to get a smoother ride. I can't do that when I live and drive in a 35 mph zone. And it's in the shop as I write this since it choked up and literally STOPPED while trying to accelerate and pass on a two lane highway over the weekend. Now I know how head-on collisions occur!! The car is cute, comfortable and dangerous. I want to sell it or trade it and now feel stuck since I only bought it in Dec 2013. I should have wondered why it was still on the lot. There's a design flaw with the tranny and they know it.

Update: After an estimate from the dealer of $8000 to fix it, This car is still sitting in my garage while I pay off the note for an undriveable car. I use it to put my wet umbrella on while it dries. Most expensive umbrella dryer ever. When you buy this car used, the manufacturer's warranty is severely reduced. Within three of months of the warrantly expiring, at 65,000 miles, the car starts falling apart. First tubo booster fail: $3000 -- Hyundai paid part (which would have been fully covered under warranty). I paid $1800. Four weeks later, turbo charger fails again while on vacation. $550 towing charge to get it to the dealer. $35 per day for a rental car. $180 so far for diagnostic work. I have been notified the turbo charger replacement will be covered by parts warranty but as they discover whatever caused the turbo charger to fail will all be on me. Planning to send car to the Junk Yard and will have to have two car payments for the next year until I pay off the Nasty Veloster. Don't make the mistake I did, stay away!

So I really like this car, I've had it sense January and already have about 10k on it. It is a very reliable and durable little car, I had someone t-bone me going 40 and the only damage it had was a little crack and scuff on the bumper. the backseat is also big enough to fit 2 car seats. The gas mileage is better than I expected also, I usually drive between 40-50 mph and I average 38-43 mpg. The highest mpg I've averaged was 51.2 with the Eco boost on. I would recommend this car to a friend and think they should make it in a hybrid because it would get outstanding gas mileage. It also turns heads when I pull up to lights and people surprised its my car and not my parents because of my age.

Because if you want to ride like sports car, you got it. The turbo's 18" wheel is actually an overkill or let's just say feels like a second thought by Hyundai throwing those on to please the youth crowd for the looks, while simultaneously taking ride quality to a place, which resides between annoying and unacceptable. While I'm not saying it rides like the axles welded on the body, just switching to a side smaller 17" wheels and adding that extra half inch tire wall, it suddenly feels like that Hyundai really intended and did all its road testing with a 17" and adjusted the suspension for that size. Staying with the suspension topic, unfortunately - if you are a 2nd or 3rd hand buyer- you are inheriting all the issues the previous driver(s) may have inflicted on the suspension, just look for bent parts on the wheels and suspiciously large amount of balancing weights put on the wheels. Also be a look-out for a beat up suspension, receiving all the punishment coming from the oversized wheels with virtually no sidewall on the ultra low tires from the factory. Just a reminder, the car's ancestry line is from some of the cheapest Hyundai models - Accent/Elantra- not really designed to handle 200Hp and harsh acceleration, nevermind rigid springs and low profile tires transfering every bump and hole up the suspension parts and steering. The car will develop- unless already featuring- a vibration or a shake at certain speeds, forcing the owner for multiple visits to the tire place for alignment and wheel balancing. Not once in 2 years, but more like 3 times a year. It's actually worth to do get a complete diagnosis on the front suspension and replace nearly every component after a certain amount of miles, unless you can cope with vibration and road noise. And yes road noise. This car has zero insulation so having those 7.5" wheels with ultra low profile tires, it really sounds like you're sitting on the wheels themselves. Add the cheap plastic interior, and you got a symphony of rattles and shake and tire noise and your'e instinctively reaching for the volume knob on your radio, which features volume leveling option, but doesn't work at all.

WARNING! DO NOT BUY A HYUNDAI** I hate this PATHETIC excuse of of what a manufacturer claims as a "dependable, America's, best warranty" I recently tried to file a claim for the first time in my many years of being a Hyundai owner. I purchased a 2013 Hyundai Veloster just a couple yrs ago with only 30k miles on it. My engine blew - connecting rod completely shot out the engine, then parts that flew off busted my gas tank too - everything beyond repair and need to be completely replaced. $5000 in damages that I have to pay, no thanks to this company. They said "mechanical failure" and this was MY fault! What the hell? What am I suppose to do - have my engine rebuilt every month to make sure it's still intact?? The damages are almost more than the car is worth! I have stayed on top of all my maintenance since day 1 when I purchased the car. Just last year, the catalytic converter went out - however (thankfully) was under warranty. I was travelling on vacay for the 4th - 3hrs from home, clear road, beautiful weather for a holiday and road trip, then all of a sudden I hear and feel a huge "bam" from the front and can literally feel under the car something solid ricochet all the way to the back, then I see smoke behind me, car obviously stalls, then I smell gas. If there had been one spark, I would've been dead! Thankfully a good samaritan came to the rescue telling "get out now!" Thus I did while 911 had been informed and on their way. Hyundai told me that this is a common issue with their cars too, though theres no recall and I'm 9000 miles above the powertrain warranty. Never had I had so many issues with a car than I've had with this one. When looking upon the list of recalls, there are SOOO many makes that have the EXACT same issue! And again, this car had about 70k miles Every call and "follow-up" keeps saying it's my fault! I have kept on top of maintenance (proof of every one). Believe me - I will blast this in every forum out there. I am beyond belief of their policies when it comes to this situation. The car should have been considered totalled, or atleast covered somewhat by the "makers".....they need to stop hiding behind the curtains and admit they're mistake - and take light of this in order to produce better cars in so this doesn't happen to other victims. Please do your research of other victims, lawsuits submitted (yet conveniently put off for yrs). Even the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recognizes this issue. Below is a glimpse into it.... https://www.thecarconnection.com/news/1122403_2013-hyundai-veloster-recalled-over-engine-stall-fire-risk HYUNDAI is absolutely WORTHLESS and INCOMPETENT!

I bought mine at CarMax and bought the extended warranty. It was under the original warranty so I was covered, but now it's extended warranty time and it's the same issue. Blow fuel injectors, blow engine, recalled software to prevent blow injectors and engine, etc.... The service department is nice, but we are both tired of seeing me and me being there. I have 65K miles, so I am not even close to a car with a lot of miles and the extended warranty is for 150K, but at this point, I asked Hyundai to make me a fair trade offer so I can move on. So tired of the issues.......

I have to say the base veloster is a great car. I'm going from a 2009 Hyundai Elantra and have to say after 4 years Hyundai's styling and build quality has improved. The base engine is fine with six speed automatic and paddle shifters its like having a manual shift car. If you know about cars you would know a mushy peddle means mushy performance. This car has a hard gas pedal so it means the engine has power on tap. I only own it a day and have to say its nibble sporty and does have power on tap. So stop giving this car a bad review, most owners love the car like I do.

Oh yes! I have had turned heads with this unique look and it seems like as soon as I had one, everyone wanted to get one! For being a sporty and economical car, it does AMAZING on gas and mileage! Once you start the car, give it a minute to warm up, this will save you the "stuttering" at the beginning of your trip. The suspension however is a bit on the sensitive side so potholes MUST be avoided; also, be careful rolling over dips and speed bumps so you don't drop the car like it was jenga and scratch off your front bumper! Cargo space isn't as promising as some reviews have claimed, especially when people are involved. The 3-door suddenly becomes an inconvenience and it's like wedging your hips into your favorite jeans after hitting hometown buffet. Overall, I really do like this car for its simplicity, distance, and looks. (Great car for first time buyers/singles)

The Veloster is one of those cars that will turn heads like the Mini Cooper did when it is re-released in the early 2000s. Stylish and different with a next generation interior, this car is fun to own. You will like it, but will probably not love it. Compared to the Mini Cooper, it's performance and handling is terrible. Even with the manual transmission, it is impossible to get enough torque out of the engine to make it fun. That being said, the panoramic sun roof, comfortable seats and great sound system help make this car enjoyable. An improvement in performance and handling is certainly doable. If Hyundai makes this happen, watch out.

We just traded our 2013 Veloster Turbo Auto in with almost 88,000 miles. It was so good to us I thought it deserved a review. We were meticulous about maintenance but it never gave us any issues outside or routine care. Fun to drive. Great on gas mileage and no issues. If you can live with the space issues it has then you’ll enjoy this vehicle. We only traded it to get a bigger vehicle people can actually fit in the back of. Otherwise great car!

The 1.6 liter with 6 speed transmission works flawlessly and has all the power I need. It is super smooth and a real joy to drive in the mountains. I get over 40 mpg highway regularly. The touchscreen is VERY nice, and includes a Pandora application so I can stream Pandora from my Android phone via Bluetooth, and it shows the song and artist on the touch screen. I can even skip songs from the control on the steering wheel. As it has a USB jack, so, I can also charge my Android phone with the cable it came with, nothing extra to buy. My phone connects via Bluetooth and even imports contacts. I can answer and hang up calls from the steering wheel.

Car looks great, useful and performs better than expected. BUT at 52K miles all injector coils had to be replaced costing over a thousand dollars (electrical not covered by warranty). At 82K miles tie-rods had to be replaced another $500+ and at 83K miles trunk release stopped working unknown cost just happened. I had 2 Pontiac Fieros and a Mazda Miata each with over 100K miles and combined costs for repairs did not equal this car. Never again will I buy a Hyundai.

I was looking for on a car: gas efficient (35mpg +), gasoline engine, no turbo, comfortable for 70 miles commute, daytime driving lights, auto on/off headlights, Bluetooth/music streaming with good sound, manual transmission, good warranty, affordable insurance, a different look and most important, a total package for the price. Tested several 2013 models in 4-door and 5-door configurations from all different auto companies; some great, and others not so. I wanted something different. Just when I was about to give up on my search, my wife suggested to test a Hyundai. I have several friends who own them, heard all the good and bad things about it, and yet never consider driving one myself.

I bought a black base with manual adding both the style and tech packages. I purposely drove it over bumpy roads to see how rough the ride really is. It really isn't. I traded in a 2012 Focus with only 12K miles, a tiny Sync screen with very complicated controls, the sh*ttiest plastic hubcaps on 16" tires, and an automatic transmission that made the Ford feel practically epileptic at times. Very happy with this Hyundai. Back up camera rocks, Bluelink is nice, Sirius is great, PLENTY of pep in the manual, and overall just a solid, roadworthy feel. Still getting used to the front end styling, but because of how nice and quiet the interior is, I'm almost oblivious to the eclectic exterior

My husband and I absolutely love this car! After driving suv vehicles the last ten years I had forgotten that a car could be fun to drive. This car is a blast!! Ours is white and we get loads of compliments on it. We primarily purchased it to save on gas costs as we are constantly driving our son to tennis tournaments around the state. It has more than enough trunk space to hold all his tennis gear and our baggage. We do live in a rural area and I will say that you do feel any bumps in the road and I would not recommend it for any unpaved roads as it sits very low to the ground. Would definitely purchase another one in the future, especially the turbo version because it would be even more fun than our little "zippy" which is quite light and quick. By the way my husband is 6'2 and has ample headspace and our son is 5'11 and is relegated to the backseat. My son does say the only thing he dislikes about the car is getting in and out of it. My husband and I view it as a little extra "exercise" in our day.
