Ford Explorer Starting and Stalling Problems

  • Re: 2006 Ford Explorer [onefreedude] A couple years later

Written by: fordprob on Jan 22, 2013 2:26:20 PM

I don't know if you're still participating in this list. My 2006 Ford (purchased used in 2010 with under 50K on it) has been exhibiting all the same signs listed here within 6 months of purchase. It stops, stalls with no apparent pattern at 65 mph or at a stop sign. Does not start right back up - and is clearly a safety problem. My husband refuses to drive it after ... Read More

Ford Explorer Brake Problems

  • 2005 Ford Explorer Brake Issues AGAIN

Written by: bamasmknmom on Apr 15, 2012 11:36:00 AM

I have had brake issues for well over a year now. My brake pedal occasionally goes to the floor and the brakes fail. When this happens, I have to quickly lift my foot off the brake pedal and slam my foot back down. They then start to work again. This first began in October 2010. I took the truck to the dealership, paid them $850 to fix the brakes. All they ... Read More

texasford.com basically you search by your zip code and it'll bring up the closest dealers, much like on the ford.com site, but in the dropdown box, EVERY Ford dealer in Texas is listed, in order, by distance from where you are. You'll also discover there's a LOT more Ford dealers in places you never knew existed! I'm just excited the EcoBoost is available. And even on a base model with no ... Read More

Yes, I know what the connection is now. After filtering all the "intentional misinformation" for 5 long years from 2 dealerships, I have finally found out what is wrong with these crappy Ford and Mercury vehicles. Your story sound just like mine! You are losing antifreeze because you have a crack in your THERMOSTAT HOUSING. When I was at the Veteran's Ford Dealership in 2010, the service mgr told me to ... • Strange sound in brand new FORD EXPLORER 2010

    Written by: owner_2 on May 17, 2011 8:19:00 AM

I bought the car totally new at a certified local agency (Yude de Canahuati – Honduras, CA). I bought it especially for long family trips (I have 4 children). The car, which I have used for a few months, presents a strange sound, I had to take a video risking our lives to prove it (video shot at 62.14 mph, you can see it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wz6aeWdr-Y). The sound actually occurs after ... Read More

Thanks for the info. I guess they are just taking longer to get them to California. Our dealer has preorders from Oct. 2010 that have not received theirs. 2WD have arrived but not 4WD.

When is the new Ford Explorer with the Ecoboost option scheduled to be released. There is conflicting news articles about the estimated fuel economy. I have read that the ecoboost model will be a 30% improvement from the 2010 model and I have also seen articles that say the ecoboost will improve the 2011 model's epa by 30% If it is a 30% improvement on the 2010 model it will only ... • Not sure I totally agree with all your assessments, Explorerkid....

Written by: tgoodell on Aug 17, 2010 9:02:35 AM

I do agree that the 2011 Exlorer is no longer a true competitor in terms of off-road capability against the 4Runner due to its no longer having a true transfer case and 4WD, but keep in mind that like Explorer owners--the vast majority of consumers who buy 4Runners also never take them off road either. Being that Ford only sold around 50,000 Explorers in 2009, personally I don't think there's been ... Read More

Ford Extended Service Plan

With extended warranties, you must determine if it covers "breakage" only, or also "wear and tear". I purchased a 2006 Explorer in January 2010 from CarMax. I purchased the extended warranty for additional 3 years / 36,000 miles. That warranty covers wear and tear. A month or so after the purchase, I noticed a drip on the driveway. Took it to my mechanic, and a gasket on the gear transfer for ... Read More

Look at article #270 posted on Jan 24th 2010 and it will give you some information on a possible fix for your defroster. Also, once you pull the glove box door down by pulling the side arms in, you can see a round vacuum diaphragm with a lever on it. You can try to move the arm and see if it will change the direction from floor to defrost. I did ... Read More

The sticker on the car when I leased it was $37,800, and after rebates, the sale price was $32,800. In my family we have both a Ford Explorer (v8) and a Toyota Sienna LE. The Toyota has more cargo space, more room to comfortably seat adults, and gets about 4 mpg better than my v8 Ford. The Explorer has good towing capacity and has been a reliable, safe and fun vehicle. In fact, its safety profile is excellent (check out the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety), better than the Sienna's ... Read More

Greetings to the semi-appropriately named audimanhouston (you have the place right, just not the vehicle :) ). Like all domestic manufacturers, Ford has decided to cut way back on leasing over the past year. While it is providing lease support on several models, unfortunately the Explorer is not currently one of them. It might be possible to lease an Explorer through an independent bank, but even if you were able to ... Read More

I purchased a 2009 Explorer XLT Aug 10, 2009. MSRP was $36,845. Purchase price was $29,500 after $4,000 in manufacturer to customer rebates. It was the last 2009 Explorer in dealer's stock. It had been at the dealer since the first part of April. No trade in. No financing. I negotiated in person at the dealership. This vehicle had the exact options I was interested in. Written by: fsmmcsi on May 28, 2005 10:47:00 AM

Anthony, you make good points. I wasn't quite clear - I wonder why everything on the 2006 model wasn't on the 2002 model? Perhaps Ford rushed the 2002 model because of the tire/flipping problem of the old design? I see that the 2006 Mountaineer media information specifically references the very low rate of off road usage of SUVs and makes reference to changes meant to make the vehicle better on-road. I ...
