Pros

- Comfortable and quiet ride
- High-quality interior
Cons
- Sloping roofline cuts down on cargo space
- Rear visibility is less than ideal
- Limited rear headroom
What's new
- sDrive40i trim is no longer available
- Minor changes to feature availability and option packages
- Part of the third X6 generation introduced for 2020
Overview
The fastback, coupe-style form of SUV has become so popular that several premium automakers now offer sloping-roof variants of traditional SUVs. The BMW X6, though, set the trend and it's now in its third generation. These SUVs are unique in the sense that they are SUVs trying to look more like sport coupes, but they don't handle as well. They're also less practical than regular SUVs due to the reduction in cargo space, rear headroom and rear visibility. But, hey, since when has practicality been a roadblock for fashion?
Cost to DriveCost to drive estimates for the 2022 BMW X6 xDrive40i 4dr SUV AWD (3.0L 6cyl Turbo gas/electric mild hybrid 8A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $4.45 per gallon for premium unleaded in Ohio.

Avg. Large SUV
Updates for the 2022 BMW X6 are minimal. The biggest change is the discontinuation of the rear-wheel-drive sDrive40i model, which makes the X6 lineup all-wheel-drive only. The xDrive40i is now the only non-BMW M model available in the lineup. The M50i has a powerful V8 and offers more features, but it comes with a significant price increase. The high-performance X6 M is the top model that carries a six-digit starting price.
The BMW X6 lineup is great for those with a smaller family who want a sporty, premium SUV. Larger families will likely want the extra cargo space and rear headroom of the X5, with which the X6 shares many features and driving dynamics. As with many BMWs, the X6 has a high-quality cabin and a comfortable ride. If you're curious about other premium SUVs with rakish rooflines, check out rivals like the Audi Q8, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and the Porsche Cayenne Coupe.
Which X6 does Edmunds recommend?
Most people will be happy with the base xDrive40i model because it comes equipped with a strong engine and lots of standard luxury and tech features. The M50i is reserved for those who have a higher budget and crave V8 power.
2022 BMW X6 models
The 2022 X6 comes in only two trims: the xDrive40i and the M50i. The xDrive40i has a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 335 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque, and the M50i packs a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine that puts out 523 hp and 553 lb-ft. Sex On Wheels
Randall T, 08/18/2022
2022 BMW X6 xDrive40i 4dr SUV AWD (3.0L 6cyl Turbo gas/electric mild hybrid 8A)
It’s the sexy, edgy and head turning older brother to it’s X5 Sibling. To echo the other review, there’s nothing I do not like about this vehicle. Luxurious, plush, Technology rich cabin, loaded with an exterior that’s dripping in sex appeal. The driving experience is even better especially after coming from a Range Rover. Stunning

2022 BMW X6 xDrive40i 4dr SUV AWD (3.0L 6cyl Turbo gas/electric mild hybrid 8A)
There’s not a single thing I dislike on this SUV or wish to change. It’s luxury, it ride smooth, it’s fast, & feels safe, all at the same time. The features are second to none. The heads up display is a game changer when it comes to your driving experience. The display screen it’s big & visible, & not to mention touch screen. I could go on for days about everything I love when it comes … to this car.

Amazing

2020 BMW X6 M50i 4dr SUV AWD (4.4L 8cyl Turbo 8A)
You may want a-lot of power but you wont need it. And it burbles when you shift at the right moment. Has a-lot of space and the sleek look makes everything look 10 times better. You can gap people easily if you race and it keeps up with a M850 at first. Downside is its not the best for really long road trips for the driver.
