What Edmunds Says
Marketed as a cross between an SUV and a coupe, the 2013 BMW X6 unfortunately represents a poor blend of both.
Pros
Powerful and fuel-efficient base engine; wickedly fast V8; capable handling; comfortable front seats; solid construction.
Cons
Limited backseat headroom with no adjustments; small cargo area; poor rearward visibility; hefty price; heftier weight.

What's New for 2013
The BMW X6 gets a mild cosmetic refresh for 2013.
Introduction
Not much changes for the 2013 BMW X6. Most notable will be a slightly reworked front fascia, new LED taillamps and adaptive LED headlamps as a new option.
The X6 lineup continues with the xDrive35i and xDrive50i. The former comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 that makes 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. The xDrive50i bumps up to a 4.4-liter V8 that makes 400 hp and 450 lb-ft. Both use an eight-speed automatic transmission. Adding the M Performance package ups engine output to 315 hp and 330 lb-ft in the xDrive35i, and 440 hp and 480 lb-ft in the xDrive50i. The package also includes 20-inch wheels and assorted M touches like black chrome exhaust tips, stainless-steel pedals and an anthracite headliner.
The X6 M remains the gonzo member of the family with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that generates a tire-roasting 555 horses, sent to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift paddles. Unique suspension tuning and all manner of electronic aids do an exceptional job transforming this high-riding crossover into a capable sport sedan. Push it hard enough in a corner, however, and its 2.5-ton curb weight becomes apparent.
