530i and 530i xDrive
These models come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (248 hp, 257 lb-ft of torque) and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Standard features include a lot of nice convenience and automation features, along with:

- Lane departure warning (alerts you if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane)
540i and 540i xDrive
Stepping up to these models gets you a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine (335 hp, 331 lb-ft of torque) with an eight-speed automatic transmission. They have the same standard features as the 530i.
530e and 530e xDrive
These are plug-in hybrid models that have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a hybrid system that you can charge with an external power cord. Total system output is 288 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The 530e offers an EPA-estimated 21 miles of all-electric driving, while the 530e xDrive offers 19 miles. Standard features are otherwise the same as on the 530i.

For the 540i, there's also the Dynamic Handling package that adds an active suspension with driver-selectable modes for Sport and Comfort and active roll stabilization to improve cornering.
M550i xDrive
This 5 Series sports a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine (523 hp, 553 lb-ft of torque). The M550i xDrive includes the contents of the Premium package and M Sport package. The Driving Assistance Professional package and Executive Package are still offered as options, along with a Dynamic Handling package that includes an M-branded active suspension.
For 2023, the Parking Assistance package is only available for the M550i xDrive and includes:
- Parking Assistant Plus (takes over steering to guide you into a parking space)
- Active Park Distance Control (automatically applies the brakes when you're about to hit an obstacle at low speeds)
- Drive Recorder (a built-in dash cam that can record video of incidents with GPS and vehicle data attached)
- 360-degree surround-view camera (creates an adjustable 3D image of the vehicle's surroundings)
A number of the options included in packages are also available as stand-alone additions, as is leather upholstery.
